kltespr vs klte (not a question about updater-script) - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What exactly is the distinction between kltespr and klte. I have a Sprint Galaxy S5 with sim card and gsm capabilities. When I try flashing roms my device is reported as klte. Is the something that is hardcoded into the recovery rom that is doing the flashing or is that something lower? Are there sprint S5s out there that don't have gsm and sim cards? Could that be the distinction?

That still has to do something the the updater-script, the recovery you flashed is made for a device called klte but the rom is for kltespr, THIS IS A MISTAKE BY @CyanogenMod xD

I was just trying to be clear I was not trying to ask how to flash kltespr on klte. Still though, I highly doubt kltespr is a cyanogenmod mistake. There has to be a reason why there are difference device names out there.

If you go to the CyanogenMod downloads they now have nightlys for the klte variant. Happy flashing!!!!!

Yes the hardware is the same so go ahead and brick your phone. You fail to comprehend the fact the ROM has to be ported for us cellular for it to actually work.

Sorry I didn't get what u mean
I want flash a Verizon ROM onto the US Cellular Galaxy S3 , Is it will working coz it same hardware
The fact it is the same hardware doesn't change the fact that you have to alter the software/ROM to work on another carrier. That is where porting comes in and lucky for you there are some ROMs here that are multiple carrier ROMs .
I am going to try this rom Galaxy S3 Verizon (I535VRBLK3) for my phone
You are still not getting it. It will not work it is meant for those with Verizon as their cell phone carrier. Plus it is stock version not a ported custom ROM meaning it isn't altered and made to work on another carrier. Let me put it in caps "DON't FLASH IT AS IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE" I hope you got that. See you are on US Cellular and must flash ROMs for that carrier so you can't flash the ROM you want to flash but that same ROM I can flash because I HAVE VERIZON so i won't f**k up my phone.

In all 3 of my posts I stated that it won't work and why it won't work and yet you are still asking the same question. Either you are trolling the site or you are really are lacking intelligence as I stated that it won't work and it doesn't help that your posts make you sound like English is your second language. If you are using it outside the US then a different ROM won't help you but unlocking the SIM card can.

Yeah, you posted 4 different times in 4 different ways he shouldn't flash the VZW ROM, and he still wasn't getting it. So I spelled it out as plain and simple as possible. I figured like you did he is either trolling or English is a second language, or not even a second language. I also figured with as many times as you responded, you might actually bypass the bottle of scotch and go straight to hitting yourself over the head with a hammer
Sorry to make u angry
I just looking for way to use my phone
Because I can use Verizon for GSM in my country but US Cellular I can't
I was thinking like that because both of them has same hardware
Sorry again
My pet peeve is having to repeat myself which makes me angry despite being a mellow person. I just got through blowing the heads of zombies in Dead Island so I am back to being mellow. You will have to SIM unlock your phone if you're going overseas and insert a Verizon SIM card onto your phone.
Im gonna try to tackle this in a certain way:
There is a thing in mobile phones called firmware. It is like a combo of hardware and software. One thing it allows is software updates to how the hardware works. You know how you can update your bios on your desktop computer? This is a firmware update.
The firmware on US Cellular and Verizon versions of our phone are different. When you flash a verizon rom to your phone, it writes information to the firmware in a way that verizon phones are designed to work with. The US cellular firmware is different, so flashing a verizon rom on your phone will corrupt the firmware and make your phone dead.
Basically, even though the hardware is the same, the part that updates the code within the hardware is different, and verizon roms are not compatible with us cellular roms for this reason.
You can only flash roms designed specifically for US cellular phones. Some roms on the forum have the tag D2USC. These roms will work with your phone.

I will also add that ROMs that are multi-carrier compatible are compatible with US Cellular just make sure you choose your current carrier.
Thanks sfetaz for elucidation
So is there any ROM Supports GSM & CDMA as ROM Verizon , Can I use it with US Cellular
Just go into the development section and download Axis. Make sure that you root your phone, unlock your bootloader, make a nandroid of your current image, back up your IMEI, and choose US Cellular in the options screen for carrier. You will then have flashed a custom ROM to your phone.
READ everything about all of the steps and UNDERSTAND what you are doing before you start or you will brick your phone!

Okay, just happened across this line of interesting conversation. But, I do have a question. Is there any way to change a phones firmware to allow it to expect another carriers ROM or is that simply a pipe dream?
This is strictly a mental excersize....
Thanks,

Darkhlmt I'm not sure what you're looking for, but I know people with the Canadian variants can edit their build prop to accept d2att ROMs, but they share model numbers (Canadians add an m at the end)
APAs, there are a few ROMs compatible between vzw and USC and I mean few. You're better off hitting the forums at teamuscellular.com for your device, rather than risking bricking your phone

[Q] KLTE on KLTESPR? Possible?

Sorry if this has been asked/answered before, but I wasn't able to find a specific yes or no, and I'm still a little confused! And also, I'm sorry in advance if this is a really dumb question!! lol
I see all this development on KLTE only devices, and very little on KLTESPR. I understand the KLTE is the "International" or GSM variant of the GS5, but I have also read that it is possible to get it working on the Sprint version. Is that true? Can I download a KLTE version, edit/change the updater-script and flash it successfully to my device? Or is there more to it?
I would rather be safe then sorry...
Thanks in advance!

I've installed the klte nightly of the official cm12 on my kltespr. Can't say data or service worked because currently on at&t now. But the ROM itself functions. I'd say go for it, but as always, I can't stress this enough, BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!!! before installing. Or just make sure you have a ROM compatible for your phone like cm11 which I'm currently back on.
Good luck.
I've installed klte CM11 and CM12 on my kltespr. The rom works, but network doesn't work. It either says "No Service" or "No Sim Card". Klte roms are not made for any other carrier or phone other than klte galaxy S5's. Imagine it as two completely different phones that happen to look alike.
There are some recoveries that won't even let you flash roms with different carrier/model names than the recovery format.
Thanks guys. That is what I was looking for. I did go ahead and try installing LS 4.0 for KLTE, and everything worked great except for data (which is what I expected I guess)..
So, now I know!

AT&T G2, but with T-mobile service. Can I install T-mobile Cyanogenmod on AT&T G2?

1) No! Use ROMs from the AT&T G2 subforum with your AT&T phone, regardless of your SIM card's carrier. The top CM12 port in the AT&T G2 subforum is actually a port of the T-Mobile (D801) ROM, so you won't be losing any features.
2) Yes! "Unlocks" have nothing to do with the software on your phone, unlocking is persistent by IMEI number which doesn't change when you flash a new ROM. Just set the new APN after you install CyanogenMod and your device will work fine on T-Mobile.
Also a personal note about G2 modding: make sure that you have the means to download the 2 gigabyte recovery tool BEFORE you flash CM; otherwise you might get stuck on a buggy build of CM until you find a way to download a file that large.

This is the build I used. Used it for about a week, only complaint is that I had about 2 launcher crashes that forced me to reboot. Definitely a very stable build. Only reason I went back to stock was for Xposed support.

Not receiving calls on custom roms and also cant hang up.

I have a sprint s5 that is domestically unlocked and am using it on at&t but every time i try any non stock based custom roms i cant receive calls or hang up. i'm originally on og1. so far ive tried flashing a nk4 modem, nk4 kernel.
It's happens to me too the only fix I was able to do was instead of installing klte spr roms I just installed the roms for the g900f are just klte roms and they work perfectly hope this helps. Did aslo used idone app

I wouldn't. Even though it's the same device basically it will cause issues. Only flash specifically for a universal d2 or d2vzw
