[Q] H.Black Line in middle of screen... any help !!! - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Recently, while using the WhatsApp i was deleting one mesg.. after deletion, strangely one horizontal black line came up.
Initially i thought its an application issue or might be screen refresh issue.
I rebooted the phone in recovery, cleared cache but it didnt worked.
Then i formatted the SD card, made Phone a factory reset, both from phone settings and from recovery mode... but issue is still there.
I am now clueless... how to remove it.
Any help guys .... how do i remove this black line ???

Do you see this black line
in recovery mode?
during the bootanimation?
on your homescreen?
or just in single apps?
If the line is visible all the time its very likely a hardware issue. LCD panels are usually wired in horizontal lines. So maybe one of this connections is broken...

I saw this line in all the places, start from boot screen showing as GT-I5801, at recovery and all places...
Is it a virus or hw issue..?

Well, this CAN be a virus. But todays malware is more about stealing passwords from your device instead of drawing black lines on your screen. And I don't think it's even possible to draw the black line in recovery and during the GT-I5800 logo.
I'm 99% sure it's a hardware fault. You can take a screenshot with Android and check if the line is in the picture (this would be a GPU issue) or on the exact same place on your device-screen and not in the screenshot (this would be a hardware screen issue).
That's the way these devices show us, they're getting old
Have a nice day :good:

Doesn't your ROM provide a screenshot utility in the power-menu (pressing power button 2 seconds)?
If not, search the PlayStore for "screenshooter" or similar keywords.
And (just for my own interest :silly, does the screen responds to your finger on the black line. Like when you are scrolling through a list and your finger moves across the black line on the screen, does the screen recognize this as one touch action. Or does it break at this line and start a new touch action right after your finger is on the working part of the screen again?
You can test this by slowly (I mean really slowly) moving a widget on your homescreen over the black line. If the touch input is also broken on the black line, the widget would drop when your finger reach the black line. Else, the touch-part of the screen is working properly (Hope this is somehow understandable :laugh

Problem with my Display or the phone software?

Hello,
I have a very strange problem with my HTC Touch Pro phone.
I'll explain my problem:
When you turn on your phone and you are on the "Home page" (the page where the time is displayed) there is a bar at the bottom of the display.
This bar says Phone and Programs.
When i access my volume control by using the 2 buttons on the left side of the phone a black screen appears with some bars on it to indicate the volume. Note that the black bar with the Phone and Programs buttons is gone!
But the problem is that i can slightly see the Phone and Programs text trough the black screen of the volume control...
The first time i turned on my phone it was clearly visible, but after hard-resetting my phone 3 times it seems to be all gone now.
What could have caused this problem? Are these texts burned into my screen or is my screen sensetive to white letters?
I really dont know what to think about it because it seems very strange to me that it is now gone after 3 hard-resets...
Does anyone know what may have caused this problem?
edit
When i still had the problem i checked out if the text that was visible on the volume screen was the actual text that should stand in the black bar on the bottom, but when i accessed the volume control from the Programs tab (notice that the menu bar then displays "All programs" and "Remove"), but the volume controll still displayed Phone and Programs, so it isn't the actual text that is visible, so it cant be something like a shine-trough or something like that.
Really dont know what to think, at this time 3x hard-resetting the phone helped and the texts aren't visible anymore, but i'm still worried that my screen is over-sensitive or maybe broken or something =\
edit
The text is getting visible again after having my phone on "stand by" for 10 minutes.
Does anyone has a solution or does anyone knows what the problem can be? i would like a awnser today because i could go the the store tomorrow, i may be able to switch it for a new one if the screen is really broken.
Hope someone knows more!
edit
Maybe some of you dont see it on your one Touch pro, but you will if you REALLY look close at the bottom left and right corner in your volume control screen.
Could it have something to do with lazy pixels or something?
edit
It seems to get worse when i have the phone and programs texts on my screen for 10 minutes, and then switch to volume management. Are my pixels lazy or something?
The longer the screen stays on with the Phone and Programs texts on and the icons of the menu etc, the more you see when you turn on volume control.
it just looks like it burns into my screen.
Take care! Maybe it burned into your eyes!
No, serious it cannot burn into your screen.
Only CRT screens can burn it, not TFT.
Hmm ok thats true haha,
But what else can cause such a problem... it is only visible if the phone is off stand by for a few minutes.
I had my phone on stand by the rest of this evening and just turned it on and now it is all gone again. But if i put my phone on the home screen for a few minutes, so with the texts, then its visible again on the volume controll screen
Had the phone on standby the whole night and now the texts are gone again.
They seem to get "burned" in somehow if the phone is off standby for a few minutes, but then when its on standby for a while they are gone again.
Just wanna know if more people have the same problem, or else i could send back my phone to HTC for a repair

Well that seems to be the problem over here...
But when i turned on the phone for the first time there was much more "image burning" on the screen, and at this moment it is all gone ...
Could it be that the screen had to "warm up" or something because the phone is just 2 days old. The longer i used the phone the less the image burning is now.
Do these screens have to warm up or something when you turn on the phone the first time?
They shouldn't... Especially if you bought it locally, I'd take the safe road and return it. I'm not sure if it's exactly what that source describes, but I don't like taking chances with phones as expensive as this.
Hmm ok, thats wierd because the more i used it the less burned in texts are visible.
at this point there is nothing visible on my screen anymore ..
isnt there ANYONE else here that has the same problem or that wants to try it out and leave the phone off standby for some time ?
Someone that has the same problem, or someone who wants to check their phone for the same problem?
I dont know if i should return my phone for a repair..
Problem is getting visibl again,
Have used my phone some time today, but i didnt have it off standby for longer than 1 minute, and still there is a white bar slightly visible on the volume controll screen.
This is definately a problem with the screen right? something like Lazy pixels or something..
Anyone that can help?
btw, its seems that only the white colors get burned in
edit
It only seems to get "Burned" in when i'm in a window with white bars or spaces, and it fades when i have the phone on a black screen for a while..
And it only happens with the HTC Volume app?
no, but its good visible on that screen, its also slightly visible on the home screen etc..
It doesn't only burn in when the phone is off standby, but it also seems to get worse when the phone is ON standby... what i mean is that it doesn't fade away right away when the phone is on standby...
Just went back to the store to get a new phone.
I checked right away if the new phone also has the same problem, and it does...
texts also seem to get burned in for a while on this new phone, but also dissapear when the phone is unused for a while...
Could you guys check your phone's if you have the same problem?
Just use it for a while and check the volume control window if there are images still slightly visible on the screen.
Hope someone can do that for me!
edit.
Could i be SO unlucky that i have had 2 phone's of 1 wrong production serie?
Can anyone please check out their phone for the same problem?
I would like to know if there are more people experiencing this problem so that i dont have to return my phone for the 4th time =)
also i have spotted this problem. but it happened just a few times when the phone was hot (using gps).
Mmm ok, and you had the problem the exact same as me ? visible on the volume control screen etc?
More people having this problem?
Would appriciate it if some more of you could check it out for me
It never happened on my Fuze, I think it might be a bad batch that your store got in. That could be why when you returned it you're seeing the same things, a lot of people with yellow spots in their screen returned theirs and got the same thing in the next one.

Fix for "Stuck Image" on screen?

Hey all, I was using SPB MS3 and went into the file explorer to find that the bottom bar of the lifestyle panel was stuck on the screen. This was annoying so I soft-resetted the device, but it didn't go away. I did a hard reset, and now it is really faint but it is still annoying, and I just flashed an entirely different ROM and it is even fainter, but still a problem.
Any way to fix this? I'll post screenies to make it easier to understand.
i think your refering to what is called "burn-in". When an image is left on an lcd screen for a long time, you can still see that image very faintly even after the image is removed from the screen. This is common for people who leave their lcd tv on one station for a long time and that stations logo gets "burnt-in" to the screen.
A solution to this is to make your entire screen white for about 10-15min. So get a .jpg or any picture thats just plain white, open it in album and view it in fullscreen for 10-15min and it should clear up your screen.
Thanks for the advice, but it has gone now after a bit of use.

Incredible I didn't think you could do that too easily with an lcd.
Did you leave the screen on when you went to sleep or something? You must have had it on one image for a pretty long time

[Q] Sensation XE - display not working after waterdamage

Hello,
My phone was waterdamged and stop working completly.
I opened the case and tried to dry it.
after 48 hours of trying various stuff, there is blank screen, but:
1. The phone is booting fine, charging led is working.
2. Using Wondershare-Mobilego, i can backup all the content.
3.The touch interface seems to be working fine, i can see the menus via mobilego duplicate screen (can open the sms box or whatsapp and etc.)
4.Incoming messages keep coming...
I`m so frustrated that i`m using the phone blindly or like remote desktop.
Is it software of hardware fault?
THANKS

After water damage you can only expect hardware damage. to verify - when turning on the device, do you see anything on the screen? you can also reboot to bootloader (via the key combination or via the command adb reboot bootloader (and to reboot back to android use fastboot reboot).
If the bootloader shows nothing, 100% hardware (although there is really no need to check, probably is). You can try changing screen, but the problem could also be in the socket (but I think if it were the socket the phone would not even boot). Worth a try.
Thanks, but no good...still blank screen - no display.
As i mentioned, the phone is functioning well (as seen at duplicate screen).
When you offering to change screen, you mean the lcd touch digitizer only?
I don`t need to buy the screen itself, right?
(I can`t parse outside links yet from ebay)

I mean the LCD itself. If touch is working, the problem is the LCD itself, not the digitizer.
You right, it seems that the touch working fine.
You think that a LCD display screen replacement would be the best try? can you paste a link from ebay please?

[Q] PROBLEM xperia u broken screen?

Hi everybody,
I'm new, I've just registered to ask your help. I've already found useful info on xda several times, and I hope to fix this problem too.
After having fallen on the floor, my xperia U screen doesn't work properly anymore. The phone is working, the touch is working, but the sceen is black: when you turn on the phone, the screen is back-enlighted, then turns black and if you touch the power button the screen flashes briefly showing correctly but only for a fraction of second.
What to do? I disassembled the phone to check inside integrity and I didn't found anything clearly wrong. Should I buy another screen and try to change it, or you think that the problem is elsewhere?
I put a link to the video of my xperia U showing the problem:
wwwDOTvideosproutDOTcom/video?id=0d19d245-4079-408a-b5dc-3ca5cb339904
(sorry for putting the link even if I have to wait 10 messages before being allowed, but I think that the video is the best way to show you the problem)
thank you guys
Hmm...theoretically (not necessarily correct but may be), each type of screen has this thin file of wires (it's like a flat-translucent sheet of plastic with parallel black stripes like you often find in monochrome displays) soldered to the board. Maybe that part broke?
I don't know but it's definitely not a software problem.
This was sent from my Lenovo A850 via XDA mobile app.
Thank you for tha answer,
well, I tried to check each internal connection, nothing seems out of its place, how to say... of course I have not an expert point of view
The strange fact is that I would understand if the screen wouldn't show anything ever, but when I press the power/standby button the screen flashes and for a very brief second it works normally....

Display shrunk and no longer fills up screen

Woke up today to see that my screen display has somehow shrunk and now I have a black border and my display does not fill up the entire screen panel. All apps get cutoff by this new black border. Is this a setting or something? I looked through the whole phone setting and couldn't find anything that would make this change or reverse it. Please help. I guess another way of saying it is the screen doesnt stretch to fill up the entire panel like it normally should.

I have attached the pictures. The 3 phone pics show the odd black border or the screen just shrinking in as the corner contours are still there from the edges. The Guardian Tales image is from taking a screen shot using the Power + Vloume Down key combo and takes a picture of the whole screen without the border issue. Its really odd.

I still don't understand your problem, I don't see anything wrong with the picture. And for the screenshot it will be always perfect as those are not related to the display.
If you look at picture 4, bottom right corner, the KONG logo is cutoff, it should look like picture 1. The black border in pictures 2 and 3 shouldnt be there, the homescreen should be fully covering the display and not have that thick of black broder cuase the display shrunk for some reason.
your display is not shrinking, the LCD is failing.

Not sure if there is a setting or not, but my phone has been the same way since purchase. The screen does not go right to the end of the bezels. Some apps are cut off in each of the corners, because it seems it's scanning the image to a perfect 90 degree corner, meanwhile the screen itself not a 90 degree corner, but more of a concave corner. Because of this, the app is getting cut off in the corners, not much, but some.
I always assumed it was due to the way OnePlus has its screen and apps not properly scaling to the screen corners. Some apps have black bars on the side and it's not known or shown. Other apps that scale up to full screen in landscape mode, to the edges of the screen, those are the ones that get cut off at the corners.
In your picture, it's the same, that image is being scaled up to full screen in landscape, since the word Kong is in the far bottom right corner, it is cut off when scaled up.
