Did a hard reset, now phone choppier than ever - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I did a hard reset of my phone and I'm now noticing when opening apps and when browsing through my settings menu, it seems like the app is resizing to the phones screen. As if cant tell how big the screen is, then resizes to full screen. I have tab view set up as my default view in the settings menus. When I click each tab at the top, it stutters and shows the next screen ahead of the one I'm clicking on for a brief second then goes to the correct screen. What could be causing this? I'm thinking of just waiting for the 4.4.4 update instead of doing a hard reset and setting it up again. Any way to fix this without a hard reset?

Today screen keeps fouling up

hi, constant problem here.
Anytime I adjust my today screen plugins (selecting, deselecting, removing) and I close the Today Settings window, I return to a scrambled up Today screen.
sometimes my plugins appear overlapping, sometimes they are all gone but for an empty gray window about a quarter of the screen in height. Sometimes they are gone, but the bottom of the screen is never cleared from windows I open.
Second Today works perfectly.
Any ideas what's wrong?
I have to soft reset, and often do a backup restore to return to normal, sometimes this takes an hour.
Help, please?
worse!
Now even soft reset doesn't help!!!!

Help with HTC Fuze

I am hoping that you guys can help.
My spouse purchase a HTC Fuze a little while back. She used it for
a few months. She was then deployed to Iraq. The phone has been
off for the last 3 months. It was working fine when last used. Recently,
I powered it up and the touch screen is not functioning properly.
You can not use it to dial phone numbers, send texts, and such.
Basically, it does not function correctly really. When it just sitting,
it will roll through options on the screen as if it is being touched
and will not stay on the home setting.
What could the problem be? Can this be fixed? I have tried a soft reset
which hasn't worked. It is disturbing since this is a fairly new phone.
Thanks in Advance!
try re-calibrating the screen! if that fails - hard rest it.
How do you re-calibrate the screen?
settings-system-screen
I am under the settings menu but I don't see anything that says system.
Bear in mind that if I have to use the touch screen to get to it then it
would be a no go.
it's a tab in the button if you get there by moving down fron the lowests icon then you can move to system
its a tab in what button. Can you some one give me the exact step by step to get there?
try using the circular thing (joystick) to get there! i'm running a custom rom, so your settings layout may be different.
circular joystick to get where.
Can I have a step by step? I can't find system anywhere.
My touch screen displays but it does not do anything when
I touch it. I have to use the physical buttons.
to go up and down in that menu but if you have a stock rom you may have a different folder for "system", i'm not sure.
Figured out where that is now. I didn't realize that
you were talking about the start button for windows.
I went to that section and it asks you to go through the
align screen process but it does not respond to the taps
of the wand. Is that how we recalibrate?
If this doesnt work, what can be done to get the screen working?
try this: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Raphael_For_Beginners#Hardx20.Reset
hard reset your phone
If I do that, I will lose all my contacts and data on my phone, right?
How do I prevent this?
your best bet is to hope you have "PIM backup" and use it to back up everything, including custom folders. hopefully you can navigate using the hardware keyboard. (custom backup allows you to pack up specific folders and/or files). back it up to your storage card, THEN hard reset it.
also, if you have your phone's contact list synced via active sync, just hard reset and it'll restore your synced contact list.
good luck
EDIT: please delete this. double post of preceding reply.
Will a hard reset actually fix this problem with the touch screen
or this just a try it and see approach?
Contacts saved on my SIM will not be affected by a hard reset, right?
Do a hard reset then,
Yeah, if you already save your contacts in the sim then go ahead and do a hard reset. Just follow the start up procedure on the phone, hope this will solve your problem. Please let us know.

man, nobody knows for sure. it will give you a blank phone, just like the first dday you turned it on (software wise). if the screen has some hardware damage - you will know after the hard-reset. let us know how it went!
so what is actual purpose of a hard reset over a soft reset?
Why would this work to reset the screen over a soft reset?

Tracking a mystery lockup

I have had this issue forever. I have done a couple of hard resets for other reasons over the months and it stays.
I occasionally get a lockup. When I do, the phone acts alive, but the touch screen is dead. I am using the Today screen, not Sensui. The two soft keys at the bottom of the page are "Delete" and "Menu" instead of the normal "Calendar" and "Contacts". And they pull up the menus for the inbox.
So it acts as if I am in the inbox, instead of on the today screen. But I see a locked up oday screen.
And I believe it only happens if I use a photo as my today screen background. I don't think it happens with a plain background.
Has anyone else seen this?
This is a VZW device, with stock 6.5 rom. Using the today screen with Phonealarm and Pocketbreeze.
Have you installed Dynamic Resource Proxy and NoPushInternet? Those might help.
When you are "locked up", is there any way to get the touch to start working again? If your touch screen stops working completely and only a soft reset brings it back, it sounds more like a hardware issue.

screen went blank ?!?!

my screen last night went blank except for the top and the bottom, I am on a stock rom with a bunch of programs installed. the programs have been on it for a while so it worked fine before.
I was roaming last night and tried to go online and it seemed to freeze, and when i mean freeze i mean freeze. it totally shut down and i could not get it to turn back on without a soft reset. when i soft reset it the screen was toatlly blank and it seems that touch flo aint working, I have to hit the start button at the top and a drop down list of programs (like with my old mogul) would drop down. I dont remember what version of windows that is.
trying to remove programs doesnt workeither.
Hope you got your files and contacts backed up...sounds like hard reset will be the only option for you...
is touch flo checked under settings-today-items
yeah it was checked, and i did a hard reset, I keep everything backed up all the time so im cool. just hate hard resetting.
might think about flashing a coustom rom, i just have to find a real good one, any ideas?

Noticable delay with screen turning on, didn't happen before?

Cross posted
So of you followed my latest "journey", I had a perfectly funtiocnal phone, I screwed up the lockscreen font sending me into bootloop, I managed to eventually get an update zip that flashed the correct lockscreen font to the phone, and all is well. Except for one annoying thing
I noticed now when I press the power button to wake the phone, the bottom capacitive buttons will light up first, then the display will light up. There's a noticeable lag where there wasn't one before.
Thinking it might be my system, I took a nandroid backup, then factory reset the phone (Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Reset). When it was done reloading the factory restore, I tried turning the screen off and on, delay was still there. I restored my backup, phone was back to normal, but delay was still there.
Any ideas where this delay came from? I'm going to try flashing a few other backups I have and see of they all do it.
I noticed this too. I think it's Virgin Mobile's way of "fixing" the flickering screen problem... just don't let it power on until it's cooled down. Thus we get a slow-to-turn-on screen.
