hi, constant problem here.
Anytime I adjust my today screen plugins (selecting, deselecting, removing) and I close the Today Settings window, I return to a scrambled up Today screen.
sometimes my plugins appear overlapping, sometimes they are all gone but for an empty gray window about a quarter of the screen in height. Sometimes they are gone, but the bottom of the screen is never cleared from windows I open.
Second Today works perfectly.
Any ideas what's wrong?
I have to soft reset, and often do a backup restore to return to normal, sometimes this takes an hour.
Help, please?
worse!
Now even soft reset doesn't help!!!!

I just started having this "bug" yesterday. Basically, what happens (randomly) is that when I press the power button, remove the stylus, or slide the phone open to wake it up I'll be met with a black/blank screen. The backlighting will be on, and the phone is responsive (can receive messages, make calls, sounds/notifications work), but I won't be able to use the screen. If I use the power button to turn the screen back off and wait a few seconds, the screen might start working again. This is completely random and I cannot duplicate it with any guaranteed process, but it seems to be when the phone is waking up from standby. After a soft reset, probably half of the time I'll be met with this same delima, which leads me to believe it's hardware and not completely software.
At the same time the phone is also struggling to re-paint the screen from the change of Landscape-to-Portrait and visa versa. Also opening and closing windows to get back to the today screen also cause a problem. I've disabled TF3D to see if that makes a difference, it doesn't. I have a blank today screen with no plugins to free up the system resources, and am still having this issue.
I'm using JD's Rom (probably around 1.3, it's been running fine with no issues up to this point).
I'm also using S2U2 1.35 (if that makes any difference, haven't had any problems until recently)
The phone has never been dropped, it's in InvisibleShield, and normally sits on my desk charging all day.
This started happening last night for no apparent reason and it's really starting to irratate me.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Re the black screen:
Sounds like its software related. For example, I sometimes have this if I leave PocketTwit in the foreground and turn off phone. What software did you install yesterday? Also, do you try to press the home key and see if that clears the screen?
After more testing..
After some more fiddling around with the phone I'm about 90% certain it's a hardware issue. I noticed that when I slide the keyboard out if the slide portion is past the number line then the screen will stay on, but not update. I don't know how well I can explain it. If I'm typing and hold the screen to keep it from opening all the way then I can see the letters/words appear (in txt msg/email), but if I let the screen goes and it slides all the way open then the screen will stay on and only show what has already happened, any more typed characters will not appear, but if I move the screen back to the number row then the screen will re-draw and update what has happened.
Is this something that Sprint should fix no questions asked?

The last piece of software I installed was Gyrator 2 on Friday-ish. Thinking that it was the problem, I removed it using MemMaid. I'm going to give the phone a flash tonight and see if it is software related (hoping for the easy fix) but as the post above says, I'm almost certain it's a hardware issue. I just wish I knew how it happened. . . So much for that time putting those InvShld on.
Final Update (this can be closed)
I took it into a Sprint store and they replaced the "flip" on the top for free (I have insurance).
Point of the story/thread, this can be closed, it was a hardware issue, and now it's fixed.
I have had this issue forever. I have done a couple of hard resets for other reasons over the months and it stays.
I occasionally get a lockup. When I do, the phone acts alive, but the touch screen is dead. I am using the Today screen, not Sensui. The two soft keys at the bottom of the page are "Delete" and "Menu" instead of the normal "Calendar" and "Contacts". And they pull up the menus for the inbox.
So it acts as if I am in the inbox, instead of on the today screen. But I see a locked up oday screen.
And I believe it only happens if I use a photo as my today screen background. I don't think it happens with a plain background.
Has anyone else seen this?
This is a VZW device, with stock 6.5 rom. Using the today screen with Phonealarm and Pocketbreeze.
Have you installed Dynamic Resource Proxy and NoPushInternet? Those might help.
When you are "locked up", is there any way to get the touch to start working again? If your touch screen stops working completely and only a soft reset brings it back, it sounds more like a hardware issue.
Hi guys,
Here's a problem. Every 7 secs or so, my captivate's screen refreshes or resets (not sure what to call it). The result of is
- If I am playing a video, it stops playing, screen goes blank for a second, and it restarts.
- If I am on the applications screen, I am returned back to home screen.
- I am reading an email, and have scrolled down, the page refreshes, and I am taken to the top of the email.
I started couple of weeks ago. I am thinking it started after I installed 'LCD Density Changer', so I uninstalled it with settings reset, but it still continues.
Anyone else have this problem?
My phone is stock 2.1 JI6.
Appreciate your help.
I bought my g tablet a few days ago and noticed today that the bottom half of the screen is all that works now. Its not even the bottom half really, just about a fourth of the screen, the bottom fourth is all that works. This allows me to select anything at the bottom of the screen but anything in the other 3/4 of the screen doesn't work. So I cant open my app drawer, etc etc. It will work for a few minutes and then not work again. I tried restoring to a point before it stopped working and that didn't do anything. I also tried the obvious thing of rebooting and nothing.
Any ideas?
Hardware defect, return for exchange.
Has this happen to anyone else?
Did a user data wipe in Clockwork and its working now.
Well, nevermind. I downloaded "Touch Test" off the market when it was working and placed it at the bottom of my screen so I could actually see what was going on if it happend again. Well its doing it again so I fired up Touch Test and sure enough it works perfectly at the bottom of the screen but the top 4/5ths is very laggy and doesnt register most touches.
Hi all, I've got a weird problem. The last 3 days my screen has been acting strange. Phone is working without problems when suddenly the hardware buttons won't respond any more. After a few seconds the screen goes black and stays black. Buttons are still lit, but don't respond. But the strangest part is that the drawer stays visible and can also be used normally. I mean, I can draw the notification area down and let it fill the complete screen. So the screen itself doesn't appear to be broken.
Also, when putting the phone to sleep and awaking it again, I can see the normal screen a brief moment, maybe half a second before it goes black again. Restarting the phone is the only thing that will help...
I've cleared Dalvik/cache hoping it would make a difference, but it did not. Hope someone has got a clue?
I've uploaded 2 screen shots to show what I mean.
I'm rooted on OxygenOs 1.0.3/Android 5.0.2.
