convert GPE back to stock ? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

yesterday I had to flash GPE because I tried to downgrade my stock 4.4.3 back to 4.3 (jelly bean). then I failed to downgrade and stuck with a bootloop .. later I flashed GPE rom with flashboot and now I have GPE 4.4.4 atm (xt-1032)
my question is can I go back to stock kitkat by flashing a rom with a custom recovery (TWARP or CWM) ? or should I have to convert the file format back to f2fs from ext4 before flashing another rom???
really appreciate any help...

Instructions are in the 'How to Flash' section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-rom-collection-t2854688

thanks for the help lost, really appreciate it .. I have few questions,
have you tried converting file system with TWRP ? if so what is the recommended version ?
another question, can I just go back to GPE 4.2.2 by flashing with fastboot ? if so , should I first need to wipe the system with the recovery before the downgrade ?

Version 2.7 (or newer):
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/xt1032
You can just flash a fastboot Image (follow guide and run all commands or run included .bat if there is one) - nothing needs to be done in recovery.

[Q] Troubleshooting while updating to 4.4.4

Hi all,
Since a few days I'm trying to update my Nexus 5 to Android 4.4.4 but everything I've tryed has failed !
Today I'm running stock ROM 4.4.2 + root + TWRP recovery + Xposed
What I've tryed :
_ OTA : device reboot on recovery and does nothing
_ Flash stock using the latest Nexus Rom Toolkit from Wug Refresh : device reboot on bootloader and get stuck on a "downloading..." message while PC get stuck on "downloading bootloader"
_ Flash zip from TWRP : tryed several zip, all of them has failed
I don't know what to do next, so now I'm asking your help...
Also I hope this post is in the right section !
Download vomer's stock rooted 4.4.4 rom from the development section and dirty flash it from custom recovery. This should do the job.
You can find the mentioned rooted stock in my signature, section 6.6
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Before trying this custom ROM could you explain me the difference with the stock ROM and why I cannot flash the stock one ?
Is it because I have Xposed or something ?
And also after flashing the custom by vomer, can I try to flash again the stock one ?

The One which we are telling you to flash is the stock rom. Yes, it's because you have Xposed and other modules installed.. God knows what changes it has made to system.
There's no need to flash the factory images again as vomer's thread contains the stock itself.

All of your questions have already been answered, except the Vomer ROM one. While technically a custom ROM, it is only stock ROM with root. So going back to pure stock would be pointless.

[Q] Need info about moving through firmwares

This is what i did so far: (xt1032)
1 Converted STOCK KK 4.4.4 RETAILARGENTINA to GPE Lollipop 5.0.1 following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/guide-convert-brazilian-firmware-gpe-5-t2969472. Also the bat named "BRAZILIAN 5 TO 4.4.4 GPE.BAT" Flashes the KK GPE firmware without moto boot and partition gpt and "ANY FIRMWARE TO 4.4.4 GPE.BAT"flashes the KK GPE with those files.
2 Encrypted device.
3 Somehow i ended up deleting stock keyboard, replaced by playstore one, but i could not put the unlock password for encryption when booting.
4 So i adb pushed a custom recovery and a rom.
4 When trying to flash the lastest CM12 Nightly using this TWRP recovery version: "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.3.0-xt1032_GPE.img is for GPE ONLY (ext4 userdata)" it failed to do a factory reset. Then i formatted data and factory reset was successful. After that i noticed that the screen was flickering (like a wave coming down from the top). After that i tried to install the zip but it failed to do it.
5 So i followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/how-to-revert-5-0-1-gpe-to-4-4-4-5-0-5-t2988565 I ONLY FOLLOWED THE FIRST PARTY STEPS. (i dont know why it rruns the second bat as with the first one you already made the downrgade to KKGPE) (Also uses same bat files from 1)
If someone could provide some information about the bootloader changes in my device and the precautions, restrictions that i need to consider from where i am now, and some explanations for the problems below i would be gratefull. Thanks in advance.

Ok, i'm not sure i understood everything correctly,
you have a XT1032 with the 4.4.4 GPE related bootloader, is that right?
then you shouldn't have issues to install CM12,
you should flash a compatible recovery (i like CWM-based recovery v6.0.5.1, you can try both the GPE and the "stock" dedicated TWRP if one doesn't work then try the other one, since we don't exactly know how is your device at that point)
and then try the following :
boot to recovery (using power+vol_down method)
format /system, /data, "/data and /data/media", /cache (that's how it is called by CWM-based, no idea for TWRP)
prepare your ROM+gapps (try CM12 ) on your computer
choose install zip > install from sideload and sideload from computer
wait for files to be copied and flashed (and repeat for gapps)
reboot
wait
Hope it helps

Actually i have 41,18 BL, and it isnt possible for me to flash from there( 5.0 ), but the flashing steps you wrote were usefull to install cm12 on moto 4.4.4 after a downgrade. mods, you can close the thread, thanks.

Soft Brick -> Stock Firmware -> TWRP -> Custom ROM -> Bootloop

Hey, so i formatted the boot partition by accident today and could not boot anymore.
I was on a 5.1.1 Custom ROM before that. So i googled a bit and found a fix by flashing the Stock Firmware. Downloaded a 4.4.4 Stock Firmware here (RETAIL-DE) and flashed it using the commands here (as described in 3b). The second command failed with "Preflash validation failed". I believe thats because i had bootloader version 4.1.19 already and its not possible to flash an older one over that.
After that i could boot the phone again into the Stock Android 4.4.4. So i wanted to go back to an Lollipop or Marshmallow ROM. Using fastboot i flashed the latest TWRP Recovery and used it to flash a Custom ROM. I've tried several ROMs but every ROM results in an bootloop. Also tried using TWRP 2.6.0.0 and 2.7.0.0, but it didnt change sth.
I hope someone can help me solving this issue. Thanks.
You should probably full-flash the latest original Motorola firmware (GPE 5.1 or stock 5.0.2) before putting TWRP and custom roms based on Android L or M.

How to flash stock ROM in XT1040?

Hi, I've read many guides on how to flash stock roms and stuff, but I'm still not sure how to do it in my case.
I bought an XT1040 from a guy and it came with bootloader unlocked and Lollipop 5.0.2 (CM 12-20150126-NIGHTLY-peregrine)
I wanted to install the stock LP rom, but then I found an optimized version on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816 I think that would be better, but the problem is I'm following this guide to install a stock rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219 but it says you have to flash every file, one by one, yet this .zip I downloaded (Retail Latin America 5.1 ROM (Optimized) v1.0a (331mb)) only has a "boot.img" and some folders named "supersu", "system" and "META-INF". Does that mean I have to flash the whole ZIP in the recovery? (oh and btw I installed TWRP v2.8.7 [recoverytwrp2-8-7encryption.img] using adb, I didn't wipe the other recovery with "fastboot erase recovery" because this had CWM already installed... is that okay?)
What should I do?
In short:
I have a bootloader unlocked phone with Lollipop 5.0.2 (CM 12-20150126-NIGHTLY-peregrine) and CWM
I flashed TWRP v2.8.7 without wiping recovery (at least I think that's what "fastboot erase recovery" does)
I want to flash a stock rom (optimized) with LP 5.1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816 (Retail Latin America 5.1 ROM (Optimized) v1.0a (331mb)) but I'm not sure what to do.
Thanks.

I just decided to do what the guide said:
1) Boot into latest TWRP and Format Data (Wipe > Format DATA > Yes) - This step is essential, and will wipe Internal Storage (Downloads, Music, Photos etc, **backup important files**)
2) Transfer ROM to SDCARD or Internal Storage. This may be done in Windows via MTP, or using adb sideload or adb push ROM.zip /sdcard/
3) TWRP > Wipe > Factory reset and flash ROM.
4) Reboot.
5) Call / WiFi issues can be solved by flashing 5.1 Radio Firmware (Below) for your Model.
now I'm in the step 3, trying to flash the ROM but the bar doesn't fill at all...
_________________________________________
Lol that was me panicking, the device managed to flash the ROM and it's working now, I also flashed the radio firmware so I have working WiFi, but the screen flickering keeps happening each time I reboot the device.
I'll probably want to downgrade in the future... any tip on that would be appreciated.
You don't need to use Fastboot other than when changing TWRP version. Simply flash the Optimized Stock ROM (or any custom ROM) via TWRP. Screen flickering is caused by not having updated your Bootloader - this utility will do that for you: Bootloader Upgrader Tool.
I highly recommend you try the following optimized Stock Marshmallow ROM: (It's faster than Lollipop)

Need Clockworkmod Recovery of Honor 6 (H60-L04) for Marshmallow 6.0 EMUI 4.0..(B831)

Hello Guys...
My phone model is Honor 6 H60-L04 & I'm currently running on Marshmallow 6.0 EMUI 4.0 (B831) Rom. with ROOT and TWRP 2.8.7.0 installed. Bootloader unlocked.
I have backed up my kitkat rom (B115) with clockworkmod recovery . and updated to marshmallow.
so now I want my phone revert back from marshmallow to kitkat. I'm am stuck at MM now.
for that I have tried this things but nothing work
1) downloaded stock ROM from official site & flashed via Stock Recovery. (with local update method & three button method.... even with Internal Storage and micro SD card ) but stucked at 36 % . Also tried Downgrade Pack.
2) tried to flash stock recovery.img and system.img files (extracted by Huawei update extractor) via fastboot... but system partition is I think on read-only mode.so not working.
3)bcoz I have CWM backup of kitkat ROM and currently running on TWRP.... tried to search for converting CWM backup to TWRP backup. but not possible
4) I've searched for CWM recovery for MM in this VirusPlus thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57270646&postcount=4
but there is not CWM for MM EMUI 4.0
so If someone have one of the following thing, plz share it to me
1. clockworkmod recovery for marshmallow for my model.
2. TWRP backup of stock kitkat rom would work for me.
Thanks in advance....
I think in the TWRP there is a TWRP version that works with EMUI 4. It's not TWRP 3, but it should work anyway.

I want clockworkmod for EMUI 4.0 to restore my backup of kitkat rom which I previously backed up with clockworkmod recovery.
I can't restore my CWM kitkat rom backup by TWRP recovery.
Alternative idea is
--someone share kitkat stock rom backup folder which is backed up by TWRP recovery. so with use of that I can revert back from marshmallow to kitkat.
Revert back to Lollipop build and try flashing stock KitKat ROM again via fastboot. Use the Unbrick option in Multitool.
there is now way to do that...you can't restore a backup of your KitKat rom from MM you have to downgrade first...if you restore the backup your phone will break...
first of all...you have to download the right downgrade package from EMUI 4.0 TO EMUI 3.1 and then install any build from lollipop... and then you have to install the right downgrade package from emui 3.1 to 3.0 and then install emui 3.0 and then restore the backup
or flash b115 via fastboot after doing all the above mentioned one by one

Thanks for point out the chance of brick phone by restoring kitkat CWM backup on Marshmallow rom. u saved me from brick.
I thought that I can change between kitkat,Lollipop, Marshmallow Roms from one to another by TWRP or CWM recovery. lol
As you mentioned, I've tried to flash Downgrade pack via stock recovery but its says "Software update failed" ( at 5% or 36%). I have tried local update method, all three button method and dial-pad method. Also put package with Internal storage and Micro sdcard. Tried with B804,B822 and B831. but no luck
I know that for downgrade package I have to be on fully stock rom .so I unrooted it. then try to flash but failed.
then I flashed system.img and cust.img (which is extracted by huawei update extractor) via fastboot on pc. On cmd it was successfully flashed. but when I saw system files with Root Explorer it didn't change. (means system files was still old which has su bianry ). so I think my system partition is read-only mode by default.
I can only mount it R/W in TWRP.
Any idea why Downgrade package failed in stock recovery ? (at 5% or 36%)

I previously tried to manually flash system.img partition via fastboot on pc.
on cmd it was successfully flashed. but on file manager on phone I saw no change in system files.
so when I try to flash UPDATE.APP in stock recovery it failed on 5% or 36% .
I think my system partition is on read-only mode by default. I can change it to R/W only in TWRP recovery.
Thanks bro . I will try now that Unbrick option in Virus plus tool. can I flash direct kitkat rom without going to lollipop ?
can any one upload H60-L04 any stock marshmallow firmware TWRP backup. I did not backup before flashing kangvip and I am not able to install update.app even after installing system, boot, cust and recovery of B831

Yes it fails. Maybe due to some more modifications to other partitions.
