Hi all,
Since a few days I'm trying to update my Nexus 5 to Android 4.4.4 but everything I've tryed has failed !
Today I'm running stock ROM 4.4.2 + root + TWRP recovery + Xposed
What I've tryed :
_ OTA : device reboot on recovery and does nothing
_ Flash stock using the latest Nexus Rom Toolkit from Wug Refresh : device reboot on bootloader and get stuck on a "downloading..." message while PC get stuck on "downloading bootloader"
_ Flash zip from TWRP : tryed several zip, all of them has failed
I don't know what to do next, so now I'm asking your help...
Also I hope this post is in the right section !
Download vomer's stock rooted 4.4.4 rom from the development section and dirty flash it from custom recovery. This should do the job.
You can find the mentioned rooted stock in my signature, section 6.6

Before trying this custom ROM could you explain me the difference with the stock ROM and why I cannot flash the stock one ?
Is it because I have Xposed or something ?
And also after flashing the custom by vomer, can I try to flash again the stock one ?

The One which we are telling you to flash is the stock rom. Yes, it's because you have Xposed and other modules installed.. God knows what changes it has made to system.
There's no need to flash the factory images again as vomer's thread contains the stock itself.

All of your questions have already been answered, except the Vomer ROM one. While technically a custom ROM, it is only stock ROM with root. So going back to pure stock would be pointless.

So I bought Nexus S from second hand recently mostly because it will get official ICS support from Google.
So because it's second hand buy, I really don't know if I'm using original bootloader, kernel, radio etc.
It's rooted (because I have Superuser app), I think it has stock 2.3.6 android (build number GRK39F) and kernel version 2.6.35.7-gf5f63ef, [email protected]#1.
Can someone who use stock android and original kernels confrime to me that this is right version?
I really want to update to ICS using incremental update which I found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445635) but I'm affraid to don't screw something because of bad experience when I radio bricked my desire
Can I update it to ICS or I need to do unroot or something?
Just download the correct stock ICS rom for your device (if it is I9020T or I9023) ,put it on the SD root and then flash it using the stock or CWM recovery and be done with it (if you need the ICS)
most likely you won't be update by OTA because you are rooted (system file verification will fail)
just download stock ICS ROM and flash it ...
Ota will install fine if its a stock rom with just root. The update script basically checks that everything that should be there is there . If there is something else in there like su it don't matter.
flashing a new rom is the best way to go if you have cwm installed already
I succesfuly flashed ICS and first impressions are very good.
But I think I lost recovery...

flash a CWM recovery via adb , or there is TWRP recovery in DEV section , which is very good .
Hey guys, I've seen this issue before yet I've tried everything in a few threads now but have no idea what is happening,I have tried using search function yet no solution has fixed my problem.
Problem:
When installing custom ROMs the installation goes fine. I put the ROM on the sdcard, follow instructions for flashing e.g wipe data/cache etc and then flash GAPPS. However I get stuck on the boot logo of every ROM. I've tried both TWRP and CWM recoveries, both with no luck. Also tried not flashing GAPPS and just trying to flash the ROM to no avail.
Current state of phone:
The phone is currently running stock firmware via downloading factory image and flashing in boot-loader : stock boot, recovery, system image etc
The phone works fine when rooted on stock firmware. E.g no custom rom yet rooted.
Could really do with some help guys, any ideas?

same problem simple solution another user informed me of.
simply donwgrade to 4.3 JB stock rom through fastboot. Then you are able to flash a custm rom from the 4.3 stock rom.
Its crazy i have to do this but it worked for me, now im running the xperience rom which is a rom based on 4.4.2 kk.
the 4.3 android stock firmwares are linked somewhere in the FAQ's as well as the guide to ffastboot lash it.

Hey man, worked a charm thanks!
For users who may have the same problem:
After flashing 4.3 onto the device it did NOT boot.
- However I then went into the bootloader flashed custom recovery, I used cwm.
- Then I went into recovery, used adb to push the rom and gapps onto sdcard
- Full wipe and then installed rom. Then installed gapps
Working fine.
Cheers chairsz :good::good:

Flash it with twrp, flash stock recovery and you should be good to go! You might need to relock your bootloader as you are s-on.

Is it really necessary to relock my bootloader? I need to send my M7 to warranty and I need to flash stock ROM, but I would prefer to leave my root alone, I don't think they would care?
I would think it would depend on how you unlocked the boot loader. If you went the way I did which was through HTC's dev site, then they will have it on record that your device's boot loader was unlocked. I think they would give it an approval to do warranty work since you are being seen as a dev. They will then let you go without 'punished'. I have not had any experience with this area however, so I might be wrong, but I have seen various reports on Reddit lately where HTC has repaired M7's that were rooted and had other ROM's on them with no issue. The Redditor did however, report that it was relocked and back to 'factory' so they had to go through the process again of unlocking bootloader and so forth.
You're an angel, thank you so much for posting this rom!
My phone got soft-bricked after I took an OTA, (completely stock without root! just an HTCDev unlocked bootloader), the logcat during boot was filled with lovely reallocation exceptions, flashed your Rom through TWRP and voila! Lucky I unlocked the bootloader first thing when I got it, I even managed to retain all of my data.
Thanks a lot!

Hello Everyone,
I have installed this Rom and the stock recovery and after installation i saw a software upgrade witch installed nicely. My question is now: Is my firmware upgraded now ?

Hi all,
I have an Galaxy Note Edge type SM-N915FY with custom rom installed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/development/rom-micky387-rom-v1-0-t2998972
My phone is running on android 5.0.1 with kernel: 3.10.30-andrei-N915F-BOC6-v1.0
Baseband-version: N915FYXXU1BOB5
Yesterday I was trying to install the newer custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/development/rom-micky387lollifamous5-1-1v1-t3200849
To make sure this will work, I needed to flash the TWRP , after I tried to flashed this using Odin, the phone got in a Bootloop. So I flashed the older TWRP again and my phone is booting again.
So I tried to clear the cache, but then I get the error: Unable to mount \cache, I didn't know how to solve this so I reflashed the TWRP again through Odin, but still the same issue.
Do you guys know how I could install another custom rom? My phone is rooter, just to make sure.
Thanks in advance.

To move on to newer custom ROMs (based on 5.1.1), you need to download and flash Stock 5.1.1, which you can download from here, then you can root it, to get the necessary files for doing so, check this thread out.
Credits for TWRP, new ROMs and the possibility of root on 5.1.1 go to micky387.
You Saved me. After I flashed the original android 5.1.1 I was able to flash TWRP and install custom rom.
Many thanks!
Hello everybody! I have a problem: I wanted to install custom ROM via Safestrap 3.71. I made all the wipe. But at the end of the installation, I get an error: set_metadata_recursive some changes failed. And so in each ROM. After that, ROM does not load: black screen after the logo Samung Custom. How to deal with this?

Was it a true custom ROM? Or was it a modified stock ROM?
If it was a custom ROM such as Cyanogenmod or LineageOS, that's the problem.
Safestrap is intended to be used with modified stock ROMs that are based on stock kernel, not CM, AOSP or Lineage based ROMs.
Typically, Safestrap is used on devices with locked bootloader, these devices can't use CM, AOSP or Lineage based ROMs, these ROMs are built to be flashed via custom recovery such as TWRP.
If you have an unlocked bootloader and you want to use custom ROMs then you'll have to flash TWRP then use TWRP to flash the ROM.
If your device does not have an unlocked bootloader but you want to use Safestrap then you need to install TouchWiz(TW)/stock based ROMs.
There is a difference.
Also, when using Safestrap, you have to leave the stock rom in one slot and place the new ROM in a different slot. You can't overwrite the existing stock ROM with the new ROM, that causes issues and the device won't boot.
You will probably have to flash your stock firmware via Odin and start over with root and flashing.

Do you still have your original stock ROM in one of the slots? Or did you overwrite it? If you overwrite it, you messed up. As stated earlier, you'll probably have to flash the original stock firmware via Odin.

The stock slot remained intact. But if I take the kernel from OC3, then the device will also not boot up and the recovery will become non-working.
Send me the stock ROM for flashed the custom ROM through the Safestrap. And send me the version of the Safestrap for custom ROM
I understood what the problem is. I installed another ROM NB1 and it all worked for me.
