More Notification Sounds? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

IS there a way to flash more notification sounds on rooted stock android? I use to use CYanogenMod and there were a whole lot more options.

Grab whatever .ogg file you want from CM and stick them in /system/media/audio/notifications.

You can even just create /sdcard/media/notifications, alarms, ringtones and drop them in there. They will even persist ROM flashes

Folders are already on the memory card by default anyway so just shove the files into the relevant folders

As far as I know it creates the folders (if they don't already exist) alarms, download, movies, music, notifications, pictures, podcasts, and ringtones on root of sdcard, not /sdcard/media during phone setup/first boot?

Oh OK. Well you don't have to use those. You can use Amy path you like

Make a directory on your root SD card for your Nexus (I know it doesn't have an SD card, but plug in your phone to your PC using a USB Cable and from there turn on USB storage.
Once looking through the directories on your phone, create a folder called Media. Inside that, create a folder called ringtones and place your MP3 file in there. Your Nexus S should recognize this file as an MP3 and it will be selectable from your ringtones after you unplug your phone.
The same can be done for Alarms and Notifications.
For instance,
Media/Ringtones
Media/Notifications
Media/Alarms
When you unplug your Nexus S from your PC after you put files in the respective folders above, your Nexus S should recognize these files and you should be able to see them then next time you set a alert of some sort.
Hope that helps!

Excellent answer , sure that helps much.
Thanks
Found out that creating the Ringtones, Notifications, Alarms folders in the root of the SD card has the same effect. Might require a reboot too take effect.
You can also use an app called ringtone maker by big bang dev to edit and set ringtones.

A lot easier: Just download Zedge from the market. Will let you pick any song just anywhere.

Is the same methode of making a folder with "Media" name applies for a Wallpaper ?
I don't like the stock ICS wallpapers and I have a folder of the stock GB wallpapers on my PC.... How can I incorporate them with the stock ICS wallpapers ? is that possible ?

Ringtone help

I've given myself a headache over this. I have a custom ringtone I want to use as a notification tone. Easy enough, put it in the folder media/ringtone/notifications. Don't show up. I do a reboot, still no dice. There is no + like in phone call ringtones to add a new one. I'm lost haha. Any help? Seems so simple, just a new ringtone!!

Create a folder in Memory SD card with ES File Manager.
Open File manager go to the SD card, and create new folder named as “media“(without quotes).
And open the media folder, and create another new folder named as “audio“.
Then open the audio folder and again create 2 new folders. One is “notifications” and another one is “ringtones“.
It must be in this path- SDcard> media> audio> notifications
Move the tone that you want to set as notification ringtone to the notifications folder.
You can also use the ringtones folder to set the ringtones.
After that, go to Settings> Sound> Notification Ringtone.
Now you can see the custom tone that you moved earlier to the notifications folder.
If the moved tone is not there, then restart your phone. Then check the ringtones settings. It might work. Has for me.

Are you using wav? or mp3. You may have to convert to ogg to make it recognize it.

May have to go ogg. Or check orginal files to see what format they are and try matching. I never had a problem with mp3 or wav. Are you on a sense or aosp? Sense may be conflicting.

I have googled and it told me what you said. No other solutions but I'll keep hunting.
Sense. I hadn't thought about that... I'll wipe caches and if that don't work I'll reflash the Rom on running (venom)
Edit: clearing cache did nothing. Wiping and flashing now...

Just pulled a notification from viperxl. It's a m4a format. I will see if I can convert and get on to work on viper when I get home.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Viper will not let me change it. Even tried renaming it to notification already there. I think it is a size issue. Maybe someone can shed some light on this because I have become very curious but do not have the time at the moment to investigate further.

Don't know if this helps. But I use ring droid. Its a free app from the play store. I downloaded the "droid" sound bite. And now I use it for SMS. I would suggest doing that and then looking in your notifications.
Sent from my Carbon-ize Evita using xda-developers app
I tried it with Zedge and Ring Droid on Viper. As long as you download tone it will show up. But if you put it in folder manually, it will not show. Uninstalled because Viper doesn't like android apps. No problem on Chameleon.

Poweramp Folder View?!

Hi everyone,
I just set up my Nexus 5 with CM11 and installed Poweramp again.
I want to use folder view, but it is not displayed anymore in the way that it used to be.
I have a Music folder with all the bands in it, and then the albums in the respective bands folders.
So I want poweramp to scan the music folder, so that all the bands are displayed at first and then the albums when I click on a certain band.
Instead, poweramp shows me all albums of all bands at once...which I absolutely do not like
I attached a screenshot so you can see what I mean. Please help
You can choose the hierarchy in the settings->list options.
PowerAMP setup always did kill me. xD

Wallpaper changer app.

As the title says, I'm looking for an automatic wallpaper changer app. Must have the usual stuff; time presets, pointing to custom folder, etc.
But the most important part, also the reason why I've resorted to asking here after spending countless hours at the play store, is an app that allows me to customize each photo's alignment. My photos are mostly out of alignment whenever I use the more popular wallpaper apps out there. So I'm looking for one which allows me to preset the view for each photo before I let the program run.
Anyone with a suggestion?

Anybody has the wRotatr apk? Every file out there is just malware, and the play store does not support it anymore.

I thought this app use to be a lot better. Older versions allowed you to create folders, then use a file explorer to manually add pictures from different folders. Now you can only select pictures using the gallery. I liked the file manager method

Maybe we're using 2 different apps. When I click on "add image" I don't see any option for adding images to my folder using ES File Explorer which is what I use.
All I see is gallery and photos

That's what I see too. The file explorer comes up when adding a folder so I see your point now.

I'm using muzei with local files for this purpose. If you don't like the blur & dim effect you can disable it!
Edit : didn't see you want to change the alignment, sorry !

How to use an MP3 for an alarm

So, in the past I've put music files into a folder called Alarms and I can use them for my alarm sound. Yesterday I flashed stock 4.4.3 firmware onto my phone (I had been using CM11 for almost 2 months), and put an mp3 file onto the stock Alarms folder. However, I can't see that file in the choice list. Before this I was able to use custom sound as alarms and I am sure that I had placed the sound file into that alarms folder. Does any one have any suggestions?

For the ringtone, put music files into the folder called Ringtones, on the sdcard, and then you can select them when you assign a ringtone to someone.
