I've given myself a headache over this. I have a custom ringtone I want to use as a notification tone. Easy enough, put it in the folder media/ringtone/notifications. Don't show up. I do a reboot, still no dice. There is no + like in phone call ringtones to add a new one. I'm lost haha. Any help? Seems so simple, just a new ringtone!!

Create a folder in Memory SD card with ES File Manager.
Open File manager go to the SD card, and create new folder named as “media“(without quotes).
And open the media folder, and create another new folder named as “audio“.
Then open the audio folder and again create 2 new folders. One is “notifications” and another one is “ringtones“.
It must be in this path- SDcard> media> audio> notifications
Move the tone that you want to set as notification ringtone to the notifications folder.
You can also use the ringtones folder to set the ringtones.
After that, go to Settings> Sound> Notification Ringtone.
Now you can see the custom tone that you moved earlier to the notifications folder.
If the moved tone is not there, then restart your phone. Then check the ringtones settings. It might work. Has for me.

May have to go ogg. Or check orginal files to see what format they are and try matching. I never had a problem with mp3 or wav. Are you on a sense or aosp? Sense may be conflicting.

Just pulled a notification from viperxl. It's a m4a format. I will see if I can convert and get on to work on viper when I get home.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Viper will not let me change it. Even tried renaming it to notification already there. I think it is a size issue. Maybe someone can shed some light on this because I have become very curious but do not have the time at the moment to investigate further.

Don't know if this helps. But I use ring droid. Its a free app from the play store. I downloaded the "droid" sound bite. And now I use it for SMS. I would suggest doing that and then looking in your notifications.

I tried it with Zedge and Ring Droid on Viper. As long as you download tone it will show up. But if you put it in folder manually, it will not show. Uninstalled because Viper doesn't like android apps. No problem on Chameleon.

How is the shuffle on this? I have tried several music players and the shuffle always sucks, they play the same song back to back or just stop playing altogether or play the same song to frequently. Just want a good player that actually shuffles through all the songs and doesn't repeat the same one's as often.

I don't know if its OK to post this or not if not please delete the thread.
Anyways for those that haven't seen it this is the supposed leaked new Google music 4.0 app for ICS.
I take no credit for this app. I did not make it or modify it in anyway. Although I do intend to theme it soon.

Thanks for posting the tour, what theme are you using in that video?
So what this does is it allows you to listen to the music that is on your computer via Wifi or your phone's data?
And what happens when you click on a song and make it available offline? Does it download it and save it to your phone's memory?
Can you post the Google+ apk

It's a music player. It replaces the stock, boring Android music player with something decent.
And I believe the "Available Offline Option" is to save songs from Google Music Beta to your phone so you can listen to them when you're not on WiFi, or if you don't have a data connection.
Is there a way to change storage for this player? I use internal SD for my system, and after I installed this player, it uses my internal storage to save all of the songs for the offline mode.

I like this app a lot. It installed perfectly fine alongside the CM7 music player.

Can someone post screenshots of this player just to see how different it is from the stock player
On miui it installs fine but doesn't synch music for some reason. Any ideas?

Of course. Any mp3 can be used as a ringtone or startup sound.
Ringtone is especially easy as you can simply select it to be your ringtone from your music player.
Just copy the mp3 into the music folder on your sd card.
Startup sound is easy too, but you need to either edit a ROM zip file or use ADB commands to get it to the right place.
Is this something I could do? Or ask someone with more knowledge than I? If so please point me in the right direction.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
To change the startup tone you'll need to be S-OFF/rooted as you have to change the android_audio.mp3 in /system/customize/resource to something else (but keeping the file name the same)
Okay sounds easy enough now the next step is producing the sound to say Drrroooid.. Is there a program i can do this with?
Here ya go. How about the startup sound, and boot animation.
http://androidcommunity.com/download-the-droid-razr-boot-animation-and-sound-files-now-20111103/
They are easy to instal, I have both working on my Sensation, Google Droid live wallpaper for the full experience, there are also clearer instructions on how to get it working, I recommend using Root Explorer.

Make a directory on your root SD card for your Nexus (I know it doesn't have an SD card, but plug in your phone to your PC using a USB Cable and from there turn on USB storage.
Once looking through the directories on your phone, create a folder called Media. Inside that, create a folder called ringtones and place your MP3 file in there. Your Nexus S should recognize this file as an MP3 and it will be selectable from your ringtones after you unplug your phone.
The same can be done for Alarms and Notifications.
For instance,
Media/Ringtones
Media/Notifications
Media/Alarms
When you unplug your Nexus S from your PC after you put files in the respective folders above, your Nexus S should recognize these files and you should be able to see them then next time you set a alert of some sort.
Hope that helps!

Excellent answer , sure that helps much.

Found out that creating the Ringtones, Notifications, Alarms folders in the root of the SD card has the same effect. Might require a reboot too take effect.
You can also use an app called ringtone maker by big bang dev to edit and set ringtones.

Is the same methode of making a folder with "Media" name applies for a Wallpaper ?

Is there a good stable rom that matches orthus in stability that will allow me to have custom ringtones for each contact? I've come to the understanding that it is an AOKP issue. I also tried liquid rc9 and no custom contact ringtone either. I miss this feature, mostly when the hubby and annoying aunt calls.
I have it working in CM10. Issue is that system chooser doesn't let you pick anything aisde from defined rings, if you install ES File Explorer and remove the default for "Media Storage" the next time you try to pick a custom ring it will ask you which App you would like to use and you can choose ES and pick from there.
I'm running Paranoid Android 2.99 by gs2usr and custom ring tones are working fine. I tested just how promiseofcake mentioned and also tested with Zedge. As far as the rom is concerned its 100% stable on my device.

I'm not sure if the sequence is similar on the rom you're running, but once I select a custom ringtone the screen just disappear without confirmation. Once I receive a call from that particular contact it works though. Did you have any of those contacts call you to test???

I also purchased and use Root Explorer. ES File Explorer has some built in ringtone functionality and the Android OS recognizes it as available for setting ringtones.
When I say remove the default for "Media Storage" what I mean is that if a default is not selected for your home launcher for example, it will ask you to choose a launcher each time you press the home button. The same is applicable to setting ringtones. Go to Manage Apps, All, choose "Media Storage", scroll down to the "Launch by Default" heading and click "Clear defaults" if the button is available. Then when you try to set a ringtone via the People app, it will ask you which app you would like to use to do this. The same should work for Zedge or if you have any other apps on there that have the ability to set ringtones.
