Hey Guys..
Somebody stole my phone today and i m feeling totally helpless.
So I decided to make my next android more protected and secure.
To prevent any hard reset or Software reinstallation, can we protect Bootloader?
1). Password to Bootloader
2). Password to Recovery
etc?
I dont know much about android development but still..
If you guys find such a way, that would be a great punch on the face of thieves..

hello guyz. i just got a motorola ES400 and password protected it but forgot the password so i did a master reset of the device.but after the master reset i try to use the fingerprint scanner as my new security but it could not switch from normal numerical pin codes to the the fingerprint pin security.it tells me "lockswitch.exe error". please i will be very greatfull if someone could give me a solution to this problem.it is killing me
Do another hard reset, make a full backup and use a simple password and write it somewhere down
this is the 4th hard reset i have done since the incident.the numerical pin works well after this resets but the fingerprint pin doesn't work which is what i'm interested in.thanks for your help Bozosniper but that is not it.i just dont know what to do any more

Do you NEED to? No, and most certainly not for the uses you've just mentioned.
Should you?
Decide for yourself!

I am sure there are plenty of people that have bought the phone that don't even know xda exist or what rooting/ unlocking the boot loader means which is fine. But since you are here yes do it you won't be sorry.
Follow the above URL instead of using chainfire or whatever Google comes up with in the first search results. It has been causing problems and goofy things.

No you don't and also, no you shouldn't. Not unless you identify the need to. People jump into root for no reason and without understanding. These people often break their phones. Don't let this be you.

Even if you don't decide to root right away, I would suggest at the very least unlocking the bootloader before setting up your phone. When you unlock, it wipes all your data so it's best to get it out of the way before you invest too much time setting up your phone. If you unlock but never decide to root, it's no big deal, but at least you're covered if you do decide to take the plunge.
Hello xda friends.
How would you welcome the possibility to unlock the bootloader without wipe?
I have found two ways to do that a while ago, but first I want to ask you what do you feel about it?
I dont want to anybody to feel uncomfortable that even locked bootloader means no security to your userdata at all.
There is a reason why google implemented a full wipe after you do the fastboot oem unlock, to prevent thieves to get your data and personal infos by flashing a custom recovery then adb pulling the userdata partition.
So tell me your opinion. Depending on the feedback I decide to keep the secret or expose it to public.
You will need a windows pc to do it.

Release it. If the mods decide it's somehow illegal and or a serious security breach they'll let you know. It boils down to how you use the tool. Take a screwdriver. It's a perfectly legal thing to own and incredibly handy in it's intended use. Use that same screwdriver to break into some ones house and it's evidence.
Security through obscurity? No, thank you!
Expose it to us, please.

Hi all,
A friend with this device (the 4G one) got a forgotten lock screen somehow. I wanted to help bypass without losing data.
The lock screen only keeps asking for repeating entering the pin, it does not provide alternative such as google account (which we do have).
Please note the device is unrooted and I don't intend to root it or do any customization.
Help is appreciated.
Does your friend have a Samsung account? If so, you can use that to remotely unlock it from here: http://findmymobile.samsung.com/

no
I've always run ADB commands to rooted devices so I'm not sure if this will work but anyways here's a link that might be helpful.

Thank you but I already hard resetted and lost data as the owner chosen that. But I need to research this to a maximum as I found that my Nexus 4 with Lolipop also has this problem (and Nexus apparantly has no Samsung account ) . So if I get the lock screen forgotten, I'm in really big trouble! All expert advice is welcome please.
My brother had put a pattern lock in my OPO, which he is not remembering at all now. From then on I am trying to get either the pattern unlocked somehow / to take data backup somehow and factory reset the phone from stock recovery. Please help me out.
More details about the phone:
1. Unrooted
2. Stock CM 13 - ZNH0EAS2JK
3. USB Debugging disabled
4. Locked Bootloader
Sorry - A member who just joined yesterday, trying to find out how to bypass the security on a phone?
Not sure it's even possible, but there's too many red flags for me.
Same here sounds fishy...
