I remember with the Z Ultra Sony made a big deal about writing with a pencil on the screen. Will this be supported?
the Z2 supports pen/stylus input "glove mode" which allows pretty much any object to be detected by the screen, so i'd pretty much assume the Z3 will be no different.. in fact even the Z1 has this support, the only thing is that on the Z1 sony choosed to disable the option, but it could be enabled with a modification tweak.

Confirmed. It does work in "glove mode"; just checked with a regular pencil. In that mode, finger touches are detected already if hovering your fingertip about 5 mm above the screen.

On the Xperia Z2, the screen was unreadable outdoors, if you we wearing glasses that had antiglare or UV coating. Do we know if Sony corrected that in the Z3? I love my Z2, but being unable to read it at all in direct sunlight has been more than a nuisance.... Any comments?

Well, I haven't had any troubles reading outdoors which is weird because the screen of the Z3 is largely very similar to the one on the Z2. So I guess if you were having problems, you might still. From my end I've always found the Z2 screen to be great.

I GUESS (!) that's an effect caused by polarizing sunglasses. So it's the glasses, not the display causing that nuisance. Shouldn't happen with AMOLED displays.

However, it is something that doesn't happen with other LCD screens, like the HTC M8 or the LG G2 and G3 and even the iphone, so it is a problem with the Z2. Do we know if Sony corrected that with the Z3?

I'm pretty sure that Z3 screen is better sunlight viewable due to much higher brightness. You can see it in GsmArena and PhoneArena review.

Let's hope so. The Z2 was downright abysmal in this situation.

I had 12GB available before installing apps.
As for the original topic, I've noticed a similar effect on my Galaxy S2 (AMOLED) screen, especially when rotating the device 90 degrees. This was caused by my sunglasses, which are polarized. The effect occurred regardless of lighting conditions and made the screen less readable. Just tested it with the Z3 and the effect is similar but worse.
However, when the device was held in portrait mode, the screen was readable with only a few minor funky patterns caused by the polarization. I've not had the opportunity to test it in bright sunlight with the Z3, but I think it'll be fine.

Hi there,
got the D6603 Z3 and compared it to my girlfriends Z2. The camera of the Z2 looks much better than from my Z3.
Thought it is the same hardware in both phones. Tried in automatic and manual mode with same settings and got a lot of frame drops on Z3. On Z2 everythings looks sharper an run smoother.
Any ideas?

do you have advanced power saving on?
Funny enough i to havent been very impressed with the camera although i never had a z2 so cant compare but i came from a htc one so expected a huge improvement! Its not bad by any means but it just doesnt seem as sharp as i was expecting! And background focus rarely works , Its alot trickier then it appears when seen in reviews!

No.
Yeah, i got the z3c. Its underwhelming for sure. Never played with a z2 say cant say anything about that. Anybody find good cam settings for their z3 (or z3c, same hardware i believe)?
Manual, 15mp, auto iso, image stabilisation off, metering spot, focus mode touch.

the Android 4.4.2 on Xperia Z2 is more stable than new 4.4.4 on Xperia Z3
it always happen for all phone that because there is firmware update
Connect you Z3 to PC companion & Repair firmware
then check the camera
+
Check both Camera (Z2 with Z3) with same setting
1. both superior mode
2. then set manual setting and compare
:good:
Funny enough I had the same problem with my Xperia Z1.
Image quality was worse than my previous Z at first but after a firmware update it was fixed.
Probably the same issue here.
In order to make the image looks better in the viewfinder,Z3 let the ISO not the highest like Z2
this change makes shutter speed slow, and fps decrease.
you can notice that viewfinder's image quality in Z3 at a low light environment much better than Z2

Hey corrallus,
Do you or anyone on here know how to make Manual the DEFAULT setting when you first activate the Camera app instead of Superior Auto? Lemme know if you do.
Thanks,
RockStar2005
I don't think that's possible yet without root RockStar2005, it is definately a big annoyance. I have ruined a few photos by not realizing/forgetting I have to keep setting manual after opening via button.
Ok thanks abhinav! The one person on xda said if you use Xperia Home Launcher it has the option on the home screen right of the default one to do this, but I use Nova Launcher, so I just have to deal with it too. lol But if you use Xperia Launcher, you may wanna read that post (#3).
I'm not really concerned with the finished product; both Z2 and Z3 produce fotos of a quality much higher than I would really need.
What bothers me, is how much the Z3 slows down to take a picture. I'm currently playing with Cyanogen 11 and the camera app launches instantaneously and takes photos without lag; neither possible with Sony; super super ultra omega mode or otherwise.
Ho guy
My question is very easy but in Internet I had not found any information.
The screen of the new xperia z3 has the interesting features of the screen of xperia ultra? If I remember with this device was possible write on the screen with any pen and object, like the galaxy note.
This is the same or this features are no longer developed by Sony?
I don't use every day the s pen of my note 3 but in same case can be interesting take note with a pen and don't use the finger.
Thanks in advance
Sam
Its very sensitive in that aspect, I saw a video where the guy was playing Fruit Ninja, with wait for it............ a knife lol.

The big difference, correct me if I am wrong is that the Note's Wacom digitizer allows it to use the pressure sensitive pen.
Thanks for your reply.
Yes i think you are right regarding the kind of technology used into the note device.
Sincerely in don't know which technology used Sony in his xperia ultra (if you search xperia ultra on YouTube you can found a lot of video when the people use a lot of objects to write directly to the display on xperia).
I don't know if this technology now is common and used into all the xperia devices or if it was only a limited features used into xperia ultra only.
My old Sony Xperia XA1 recently got updated to Oreo and I foudn that Sony have implemented the one handed operation option that was introduced in the XA2 and XZ2 series (I think).
However, the XZ Premium that is on Oreo does not have this option. Which is stupid as both these phones were released around the same time.
Does anyone know, if this feature will be coming to the XZ Premium?
You should try Gboard - Google keyboard or swiftkey. Both have features to slightly shrink the keyboard and offset it to either side of the screen so that you can use a single thumb to swipe/type.
Should probably invest in a very grippy case.
How in the world is this being touted as compact? It's more than 6 inches screen size!!!

The 21:9 aspect ratio compensates for the "huge" size?

How big is the physical size of the actual device compared to share a xz1 compact, or xz2 compact?
Probably same width, thinner, but way longer. Which means bend-gate? I'm going to wait and see how this phone fairs in jeans pocket during reviews.
from my brief hands on time on the IFA, the size difference between it and the S10e is minimal, as well as the XZ1 Compact. Sure, it's a bit of a stretch if you're reaching for the top of the display, but that doesn't bother me - there's a gesture to pull the notifications/quick toggle panel.
I'll definitely get one, if someone ports Samsung One UI (with Dex/Linux on DeX) to it (theoretically should be possible - it's the same 855 as many of Samsung's phones/tablets). It's better than the S10e HW wise.

FWIW, I have yet to see any Sony ad copy calling it compact. This seems to be some vague shorthand being presented by review sites. Sony refers to it as "design[ed] to fit your hand".

But, again... That's not Sony's copy. Do I consider it compact? Not especially. But that's fine, since Sony isn't claiming that...
In fact, Xperia 5 is almost exactly the same size as Xperia 10.
... I don't recall reviewers calling that one a compact phone but I may be wrong.
Narrow ≠ compact

It's just everyone wishing there was a proper Compact and Sony missing the hint again. This thing is as tall as the XZ3. You have to be delusional to call this "compact" just because it's narrow.
Xperia 5 vs. XZ1 Compact
Xperia 5 vs. XZ3
Now, of course it's a great phone regardless. I'll be very interested in it if we get some LineageOS or Pixel Experience development for it. This will be the perfect "rebirth" of the Z3 for me.
