Hi, (see attached picture) I know that even though my nexus is a 16gb model there is actually only 13gb available....but what I do not understand is why do I only have 500mb free when apps and pictures and other things only take up 5gb in total. So 12gb - 5gb is 7gb..... So where has my 7gb gone when my phone is only stating 500mb?

give it a check out at least, nandroids can take 3-4gb data storage easily. also, the app disk usage, its pretty damn good with helping you find whats taking your storage.

Clockwork mod recovery and why? Because its crap and antiquated and because you use cwm, you had to create this thread. So PLEASE read my thread. It has all your answers. I won't retype what I've already written. If you want the answer, read it. If you don't. Well...don't.

This is all really basic stuff. You've been in these forums a while now. I think you really need to read all the sticky threads in my signature before you do any more modifications to your phone because you don't seem to have picked up much all this time. Not trying to be offensive... Buy this stuff is easy and you should / need to know it.

yea, can flash right over, no data will be lost. if it doesn't work the first time, flash it again. but @rootSU is right, at least philz can restore your old cwm backup.

If you didn't mod the system files then the original owner did. To resolve, flash stock factory 4.4.2 images. If you did a factory reset when you got the phone, and don't want to start over, flash the img files one at a time with fastboot (excluding userdata.img).
If you don't know how to do that, check out the stickies (I think in general). There is a very detailed thread there.

you can take the ota update through wi-fi only...
no need to reset. but i prefer to do it to prevent any system app from crashing and to have a fresh firmware.
All you had to do was connect to wifi. That update required you to do that. "Via wifi only".

forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2349847

v2.7 flashed with Flashify and everything seems to work. (backup, wipe, settings, & flash)
This update is especially faster.
+1 for flashify
Anyone else see this? It's touted for the nexus 5 in addition to other devices. Anyone know why? Will it root with a locked bootloader ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
We only need to unlock the bootloader to flash recovery. If an exploit has been found in kitkat, it is possible to root without unlocking the bootloader.
This could mean a full, end-to-end rooting process without the need to use a pc

Yeah.. My bootloader is locked and can flash recovery via flashify.
Although that's assuming bootunlocker truly locks the same as fastboot does because that's how I locked my bl.

yes. if you have root you can. worst case, there are apps to lock/unlock your bootloader if you do have root. can unlock, flash recovery via flashify, then relock.

Because I think an app that can root without a pc (and fastboot) will promote a lack of the need to learn the basics, giving us members here a hard time supporting people who don't know the basics

Yeah but someone who wipes /system on a train has at least possibly previously used fastboot or has a backup stored off their phone.
I see a lot of twrp users wiping /system and /sdcard.. If these people do the whole process on the way to work,, there's 0 chance of any backup anywhere.

Here's my stance.
I will not mention it as an option. If anyone asks if they can root without a pc I will not answer.. If anyone else mentions this app to them or someone asks about it specifically, I will advise on a best practice. I will also give warnings
Thats all I can do.

We could make a guide but I haven't time to do that right now. But if we could create our own guide with our warnings about not flashing anything until Nandroid and always being extra sure not to wipe stuff whilst away etc,, maybe there is a chance?

Its not a bug. Its a lack of development
No recoveries on any snapdragon 800 device could get the correct time until we understood how the Qualcomm time daemon worked. Once we knew, it was implemented in Philz and TWRP. CWM doesn't bother implementing anything modern. Its a dead recovery.
