[Q][Solved] Latest stock no WiFi, second latest has WiFi - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Edit: Solved, despite not remembering changing persist, I must have. RSD Lite WILL NOT write to your persist partition. So downloading someone else's and pasting is the only solution. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589790
So the latest stock image I lose the ability to connect to Wi-Fi. It detects SSIDs and saves them but won't connect. This also happens on the latest ROMs.
Using RSD lite to flash between the two; if I flash the previous stock image Wi-Fi works. These custom ROMs work that are based on this image as well. WTF is going on? Does anyone have an idea how to fix it? I want to go back to completely stock. I want the latest though. Thanks,

How are you restoring? Rsd or fastboot? More details. Jellybean works & KK doesn't?
---------- Post added at 06:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:53 PM ----------
Maybe your /persist is short something & will not work on KK. Philz can back it up. Find a willing HD user....

I'm restoring via RSD lite. I have to prevent some items from being installed for it to work, now that I think of it. That's the problem. I need a version of RSD that will accept flashing those bin files.
It works with kit Kat, but only if I flash ROMs that are before the new kernel era.

Use the full XML. Less maybe the getvar & erase use data.

I've tried, it won't flash about three of the others. Maybe it's RSD version?

There could be a newer.

Thanks I am going to try different versions of RSD and see how it goes

I used the .15 image and it still does the same thing. This time I didn't have to remove a single thing from the .xml so I am at a loss for what's going on.

[GUIDE] How to get v21y over the air on G2x

UPDATE 6-15-2012: i just wanted to update the beginning of this post to make it a little clearer, the original text is below
to get the v21y base band on your phone over the air, you have to go back to stock
to do this you need a stock rom, either your own backup or the one from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644 (the first and second link is a stock 2.3.3 nandroid which is a zip you extract on your pc and run flash.bat from inside that folder)
if you need the drivers, download the third link.
follow the steps in that thread, it works
if you have your own stock nandroid, just boot into ClockworkMod Recovery and restore it (after you backup whats on your phone now)
then reboot your phone
after restoring either your stock nandroid or the one from the post above, shut your phone off and remove the battery and use NVFlash to restore the stock recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
reboot your phone
now that you have your phone like it was from the beginning you can go to System Settings/About Phone and click on Software Update. this should pull down the updated Gingerbread version 2.3.4 and the new baseband v21y. IT WILL OVERWRITE YOUR PHONE AND WILL BE PLAIN STOCK
it takes a few minutes so be patient
once it is done and it rebooted your phone you will have to put ClockworkMod Recovery back on it using NVFlash. then you can flash other roms to your phone
please keep in mind that there is a bluetooth issue with both GB and ICS roms on this baseband and that only a few roms actually support v21y. Owain has written an update file that you flash to get support on any rom with v21y, supposedly it does work on any rom (GB or ICS) but i have not tested it, so read up and test if you want.
as of CM7 RC3 all CM7 builds support v21y
please thank the owners of the threads linked above, their methods worked flawlessly for me and i hope they work for you as well. this was a very easy way for me to get the new baseband. good luck!
original post------------------------------------------------------------------------
i was having a heck of a time trying to get the new baseband installed on my phone. i had all the stuff downloaded and all the instructions ready, had the KDZ file, the LG tool, everything...but i could not get anything to work
so what did work?
well using CWM Recovery i restored my stock backup i had made when i first got the phone (best to save this off the phone as well in a safe place) and then using NVFlash i put the stock recovery back on it
once that was done and i was booted back into stock you can go into the About Phone and choose Software Update (or whatever its called) and check for an update. it found one and proceeded to download a 30meg file. asked if i wanted to apply the update, installed it, and rebooted into a nice shiny new 2.3.4 GB setup with v21y and the new baseband installed!
the CM7 nightly build (June 3) is working great. getting ready to try a couple of others (Buru, EB, Genesis (although i was having a problem there, see that thread))
so its only been one day on it but so far calls are good, gps lock is fast, overall loving my phone even more than before!!
Great that the OTA worked for you, I left my phone stock the whole week it was mentioned about sending it and I checked the software update and it always told me the software update check failed/timed out lol
Sent from my LG-P999
I am extremely pleased with the update.
I had been running a rooted stock ROM + CWM Recovery. I had been dismissing the update notice for weeks now. Finally, earlier this week I flashed back the stock recovery and let the OTA proceed.
Current uptime: 67:59:06
I haven't gone a full day without either a random reboot or a sleep of death in a LONG time.
Did mine the other way not over the air. Then did the sound update. Also running CM7 and all has been fine.

Can you test if the 6.3.12 nightly has working in call bluetooth?

Reverted back to stock this morning and installed the OTA update...now i'm back on cm7 with no issues. Great suggestion on an easy way to get the March baseband.

you are on stock rom AND stock recovery? data connections good otherwise?
A little clarification, if I may...
Could I just flash the stock 2.3.3 nandroid from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048274 to bring myself back to "stock" then, using NVFlash that's already on my computer from when I first rooted my phone, flash it back to stock recovery? After that, try the OTA to get myself to 2.3.4 or, if that doesn't work, use the LG Updater tool? Then just root my phone again and go back to enjoying custom ROMs?
Seems like it would be easier and one step less if I get the nandroid from that thread rather than following the link in the OP and having to extract something on my computer.

yes that will work as well and whether you get a stock rom from the link i posted or the one you posted makes no difference this was just how i did it
Hey, thanks! I've been wanting to update my BB ever since it became compatible with the new ROMs, just haven't been able to set aside the time to be able to do that. Just wanted to make sure I had it right before I attempted.
Your steps sounded easy and straight forward; it just never hurts makes sure!
Thanks again, bro.

you're welcome
there is a bluetooth issue with all roms and the new BB so if you use BT you might want to stick with the stock 2.3.4 that you will get with the upgrade. lots of devs are working on that issue so hopefully it wont be long
suggestions?
I followed the instructions in the first post, and now am back on the stock rom (21e, july 15 2011). However, when I go to try the software update, I get the following message: "current version is the latest version." Is there another way to get the new 21y baseband?

I can confirm it works. I unlocked my phone under the previous stock ROM for use on Wind, and it remained unlocked through the upgrade. I didn't need to unlock it again.

awesome, i'll wait for the tethering fix then
I have the stock ROM, and have just applied the update to my phone. Anyone know what the flashing red box around the screen is for?
I've been using the new JB ROM for a few hours now and have found a quirk or two.
When manually adjusting the brightness, sometimes the screen takes on a blue tint. Like, things that should be a dark blue become much brighter. This goes away if I tweak the brightness back and forth a few times.
I rooted the ROM using the CWM+flashable root file from previous ROMs. It worked, though last night I kept getting "radio is requesting superuser access" until I restarted the phone. I don't know what that was about. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.
The compass is STILL misconfigured. Every time you boot the phone, it needs to be recalibrated before it has any idea which way is up or north.

No idea what you mean. Got a picture?
---------- Post added at 12:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:12 PM ----------
Okay, so we may have something a little deeper here. Today I'm seeing the "radio is requesting Superuser permissions" dialog again and again. I'm unsure what this means, but as a wild-ass guess, it may be the ROM checking to see if the phone has been rooted. This could be bad for people out there who still have their warranties.
I can't seem to get a screen shot, but it's like what you'd expect the hard drive LED to do when accessing data. I've looked up different "solutions" through Google, and it seems to be a developer's mode attribute, but I turned it off. One person says to uncheck the strict mode setting, which hasn't worked.
Well, whatever it was, it's done doing its thing now. As the day went on, the red flashing border appeared with less frequency. Throughout this morning I didn't experience it at all. Maybe it was some type of optimization thing going on?
Tethering
So Jax184 are you tethering on the JB ROM on Wind somehow or are you waiting for the tethering fix like Braccoz? I am on Wind as well and want to keep running the JB ROM but need to be able to tether on pretty much a constant basis.

Thanks - I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something - guess that means I'm going back down to LJ1 until we get tethering!
---------- Post added at 09:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:30 PM ----------
Now I'm in trouble - I got distracted while trying to go back to LJ1 and ended up applying the LJ1 tethering fix to the JB ROM. Phone rebooted and got stuck on the screen with SAMSUNG with the pulsating blue background and just wouldn't go further. Got back in through ODIN and flashed back down to the LJ1 ROM but again when the phone reboots it is still stuck on the same screen. Did I just brick it? Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get back up and running on *ANY* ROM?
Alright so it turns out that I didn't screw it up - the problem is that I just can't seem to downgrade. If I clear the cache in recovery and then flash the BMC5 (ie JB) image the phone will come back up running 4.1.2. However when I clear the cache and flash any other image (LJ1, LH1, etc) the phone just gets stuck on the SAMSUNG screen (and I've left it sit there for as long as 10 minutes to make sure it isn't actually doing anything).
The only reason to downgrade though for me is that I need to tether. Hence faced with this problem I started going through all the Wifi Tether apps (that I tried before the tethering patch was out for the previous versions and none worked) and discovered the FoxFi works. It seems to override the T-Mobile tethering restriction in that when it is active the normal Mobile Hotspot icon appears (as well as the FoxFi icon) in the notification bar and when you pull it up it shows as On with the devices connected listed. Using FoxFi isn't as elegant as just using the built-in software hence I'll hobble along with the new image and FoxFi but still hopes that someone is kind enough and smart enough to figure out a tethering fix for this image.
Anyone got any comments or suggestions?
Does anyone have the OTA update from TMO? I was going to make a flashable stock jelly bean rom, and the updater script is useful.
If you received the update and didn't apply it, it should be in the cache partition. PM me if you need help pulling it out.

You need to wipe everything, data, system, cache in order to downgrade from JB to ICS. Also wifi is likely to be broken due to the new JB over writing the persist partition. Someone who is still on ICS and who is rooted should probably keep a copy of that.
I'm having some gps issues and radio is requesting superuser access. This is on rooted, debloated jb with the jb radio.
Let me know if you need logs, data, or want me to flash something.

JB downgrade to ICS + GPS
Thanks for the info Nardholio! I guess that means I'm staying at JB then. Overall I'm happy with it and having no problems perse. However to address your specific comment about GPS, although I haven't had any issues with it I have noticed that it has taken up to 5 minutes to fully sync and get a position lock now. I hadn't attributed that to the upgrade necessarily though as this happens from time to time as being way up here in Calgary Alberta sometimes satellites aren't as easily visible as they could be and this happens occassionally with all of my GPS receivers. My old G2 used to have quite a lot of problems that way. Haven't noticed anything about root requests though as Gee One indicated.

i have heard that it is due to kernel.
the hardware and software need a kernel to communicate with eachother.when u flash a rom,the versions of both are mismatched.
try flashing the appropriate kernel too, matching with the rom.
what kernel?where to find it?i am sorry i dont know this,
just want to give u idea ,of which nature your problem is .
hope you find what you need.

[Q] XT925 CM-Nightly 2014.10.28 - Not getting any GPS-Fix

Hi,
maybe anyone has some suggestions...i'm not getting any GPS Fix...i've flashed the Stock 4.4.2 and flashed the 10.28 Nightly.
I'm not getting any GPS-Fix. I've tried probably anything i can think of: GPS-Status Apps, Sygic, Google Maps and other Stuff...
A-GPS is working, but also not very well.
Hopefully someone can put me in the right direction...

Hi David. You have to flash your phone back the stock firmware. And turn on your GPS and Wifi manually on the Settings. While your phone is on stock, run your GPS apps and teu to obtain the signals. DO NOT turn off your GPS and WiFi settings. Now you can flash your phone to any ROMs.
Only stock firmware have ability to activate the GPS hardware sensor.
Hi saranay
thanks for your reply. Right now i'm a bit confused, because i never actually did that with the JBBL Cyanogenmod Versions. Or at least, i never did that on purpose...
Do you know, if i can flash the stock Rom with CWM/TWRP? Or do i have to use RSD Lite? I know that i have to use Deodexed Roms on a Samsung Galaxy...probably the same with the Razr HD?

I don't think you can flash sbf stock files on CWM/TWRP, but only on Fastboot Mode.
But you can try de/odexed files for Razr HD to flash back to stock to see if you can get your GPS and Wifi to work first.
From my experience. I just used RSD Lite to get a fresh start.

Need help downgrading

So i used odin to install a rom from my phone i found last night, but this marshmallow rom doesn't connect to my mobile network. I tried installing a older rom from odin, but of course it won't let me. what do i need to do to fix this?
nvm, did the non auto reboot and pulled out the battery, did the trick.
since you have been doing this for 2 years, anything interesting i should try? i just upgraded from 4.4.2, to 6.0.1, installed twrp and superuser, any neat stuff i should try?
what baseband are you on?
---------- Post added at 11:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:32 AM ----------
and why are you using odin to flash roms? thats not highly recommended when youre not in need of changing your firmware. what tar.md5 file did you flash? if its not connecting to your network, it could have been a tar.md5 for a different S5. here is the link for the 6.0.1 PCA tarball and here is the link for the OK4 tarball. Im currently using the OK4 one and its pretty solid, but if you want the ability to flash ROMs, then you want to stay away from the PCA baseband
sorry, too noob to know what baseband i was in. all i know its a sprint phone, g900p and my original was 4.4.2. i've been trying to flash roms from http://rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung Galaxy S5 (Sprint) (SM-G900P)/Stock ROMs
but they all have the same problem, it stops at like 1% probably cause i'm trying to revert to a old version, must of flash 20 roms i found on the internet... i'm looking for a kitkat version that would work. I would think thats my biggest problem, just haven't found a stock rom that works. Would i need to clear anything with twrp first?
thanks for the help, this lolipop rom works great
yes, and it might need for you to fix permissions too. do a factory reset (i always recommend doing it 3 times), delete the android folder in both internal and external storage, and then try to flash the ROM again. Id also upgrade to at least OK4 via Odin. After doing that, youll have to reflash TWRP. That should clear up any issues youre having
OK4 tar.md5
---------- Post added at 12:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:17 PM ----------
no problem. let us know if you run into any other issues. ive had my S5 since launch week (over 2 years) and its been rootd, flashed, rommed, sim unlocked etc etc so many times, its pretty nuts
also, even if your ROM is working well, it would still be wise to get on OK4. Its just a better baseband
could you help me with installing twrp? i downloaded this https://dl.twrp.me/klte/ from the website, its should be simple to install like flashing the roms, but i did it a few times, but when i boot into recovery mode, its still using the android version. like nothing has changed.
it has to be a tar.md5 file and flash it in Odin using the AP slot. Put your phone into download mode (pull the battery, put it back and press and hold, volume down and home, while still pressing those two press the power button until the phone vibrates and then release the power butt while still holding the other 2), itll ask you if you want to continue, select yes. If you need more info about how to use Odin, let me know
