What's the difference between this version and 18.3.C.0.37 except root? Also how to flash cwm?

Now we just need a method to bring CWM or TRWP to the D2303. Or is it included in the above, and I can flash it via kernel + Flashtool?

I will update the op as soon as posible.

If the kernel contains CWM, I could extract the kernel.elf from the .zip, then flash it via fastboot. Correct?
Which region is the ROM from?

The kernel in this zip file not includes CWM! You need the CWM from DooMloRD.
Flash this file via fastboot, then reboot in recovery.
This is the customized MY 1281-1590 version of this firmware.

Great. I am going ahead.
Not - Doomlords Recovery link doesn't work ... at least not here in China.

The differences are minimal, minor bugfixes. On my device it works fine.
For flash the CWM, read the op.

when will their be a custom kernel for us locked bootloaders with cwm on it .as would like to see it on the m2 locked bootloaders .

If the fix mount system tut here does not work for you, which may not, here is a simple fix just for removing the unneeded system apk's after flashing dotzi's 18.3.C.0.39:
- create a file named "enable" with a file editor with the value 0 in it
- save the file without .txt extension, or remove the extension after the file is saved
- copy the file "enable" to sys/kernel/security/sony_ric (ignore any failed operation message)
- set permissions to rw-r-r-
Gives full access to all system files for the current session.

This customized ROM works fine for me. Thanks to the OP!
Perfect would be CWM integrated into kernel, dito for the mount-sript (and init support) into ROM. That's all we need No de-odexing or other pointless stuff.

Nice to hear that it works. To integrate CWM will only be possible if a working Recovery is available for the D2303. I just tried it in the kernel building, but I failed miserably. But I will try as soon as possible to integrate the mount-script and the init.d support.
Let us hope that even more people to deal with it and the development is of overriding driven.

Consider putting the doomlord kernel which contains the CWM onto another storage (if he allows). Downloading from the current location is really not fun.
I'll be subscribing here as it seems you want to bring it further.:good:

Wow, nice one
Thanks for your hard work, really appreciate it
(Currently waiting for the dual-SIM one xD)

It doesn't matter. Flash the cwm via fastboot, and boot only in recovery by pressing vol down. Then Flash the zip file and reboot! It works, believe me!

Thank u . This is the SEA singapore/malaysia rom Version
Does the rom contain the firmware or have u removed it?
I have corrected the links for u with clickable ones.. As above.
Those who want to download , just click on the quote above
NOTE: that the firmware file in Original post is a full version, not a custom one . Flashing the firmware will result in loss of root
Here are 2 files, Choose one to flash , not both
If u flash this
2.24.707.1-custom firmware.zip
yr S-off , custom recovery and still Hboot 1.44 intact, u can use revone
on this. If u are already S-off , rooted and want to just upgrade the firmware flash this
If u flash this :
2.24.707.1-Unmodified firmware.zip
Yr S-off may be gone but u cannot use revone commands anymore . Hboot will be upgraded to 1.54 , custom recovery will be removed and potential problems later one . Flash this if u want just like the Stock OTA upgrade
---------- Post added at 05:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:00 AM ----------
Explanation for the above: Generally U need to remove 3 things if u want to flash firmware on S-off phone
Boot.img - Kernel ( this is stock kernel ) remove if u are on custom rom
recovery.img ( HTC recovery) remove if u ant yr TWRP or CWM intact
Hboot ( remove if u want to keep yr phone Unlocking bootloader ability )

Thanks for fixing the links. No the firmware is not included in the ROM. It only has boot.img, /system and /data/preload. The firmware will need to be flashed separately using fastboot oem rebootRUU. The firmware can be extracted from the OTA firmware.zip or the link above. I'd remove hboot from the firmware as well. 1.54 hboot is a problem. Haha.

So try changing the title

I have posted a custom version of this firmware in #2 post of this thread
updated my 2nd post.....
just to confirm, if i'm currently on CWM touch and ARHD and would like to get back to stock recovery and stock ROM
i just need to download the 2 files quoted by Magpir and flash them using the following instructions?
Download stock odexed version of most recent firmware and recovery.img
Move recovery.img to c:\mini-sdk location
Boot your device in recovery mode (power off the device and turn it on using power + vol down buttons and select "RECOVERY")
In main menu, select "install zip from sdcard" and "choose zip from sdcard".
Navigate to the location of stock ROM (zip) package and confirm flashing procedure.
After flashing process is complete, reboot the device in bootloader mode.
Connect your device to the PC
Boot your device in fastboot mode (like you did during unlocking bootloader - power off the device and turn it on using power + vol down buttons and select "FASTBOOT")
Open up command prompt ( Start > Run > type cmd and hit enter ). The window that appears is called Command Prompt. <click here to see the image>
Navigate to where you unzipped "mini-sdk" package (type in Command Prompt: cd c:\mini-sdk). Note: make sure the path is not c:\mini-sdk\mini-sdk
In the Command Prompt type following command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
You have now stock boot, system and recovery partitions. Time to relock your bootloader.
In the Command Prompt type following command: fastboot oem lock.

Guide: Installing Kernels/Roms on Xperia L (Unlocked Bootloader only)

Hey there guys, this thread is noob friendly and is made especially for those of you who just got their first Sony phone and decided to flash a custom kernel or rom.
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone, use this tutorial at your own risk.
Things you'll need:
- Xperia L with Unlocked Bootloader(ofcourse haha) Look here on how to unlock your bootloader.
- Flashtool
Installing a kernel (This tutorial is for 4.2.2 only, that is 15.3.A.0.26+)
1. Download phantom kernel from here (both Phantom_modules.zip and the boot.img) Place the "Phantom_modules.zip" into your phone (sd card or internal storage) Or you can use any other kernel's boot.img
2. After installing flashtool, or if you already have it installed, open it and click on the Flash icon (the first icon from the left)
4. When it asks you to choose a bootmode, select fastboot mode and press ok.
5. After all this has done turn of your phone (Xperia L).
6. Get out your usb cable and plug it into your computer while holding the "volume up" button. (notice your phone will glow blue below, this means that it is in fastboot mode.)
7. On the pop up window where it says "By Doomlord", choose "select kernel to flash". Locate your boot.img file that you just downloaded a while ago and select it.(Notice if the boot.img file is not showing up in the file menu, on the right cornor make sure the file type is set as "*.img")
8. Be patient and wait till the kernel has been flashed, should take no longer than 10 seconds.
9. Now select "Reboot device into system" and wait for your phone to power on, now once it's powered on without any problems turn it off. Now turn on your phone and wait for a purple glow then hold down the "volume down"button. Now you'll be in CWM (clock work recovery mod) Once you're here select install from zip. Locate your "phantom_modules.zip"(or the zip file, of your kernel choice) and select yes. Wait for it to be flashed and then go back and, reboot sytem.
10. From here you can flash any kernel/rom via CWM, like Thunderzap or civic. Just boot into cwm, select install from zip and locate your kernel zip file and hit install.
Credits:
- Kernel Owners.
- Sony for their kernel source
Hit thanks if this helped you out.
I don't think that's needed to be Phantom Kernel, or any other in specific, since the kernel provide a recovery with the possibility to flash a zip, it's ok (correct if I'm wrong).
I had unlocked my bootloader, then flashed the boot.img inside of the flashable zip from ThunderZap, then, rebooted to recovery right way, and flashed the entire package from ThunderZap.
Regards and thanks for the helpfull post!

No probs
Well it was the first kernel for 4.2.2 and that's why I put it up instead. I know we can use the boot.img from thunderzap too but if I'm not specific enough most of the noobs wont understand. I also chose that kernel because it comes with a recovery so then you can just flash other kernels via cwm.
Complicated - with properly installed drivers you can start flashtool with usb-cable plugged in. After clicking the flash icon choose "Reboot into fastboot mode (via ADB)".
When the phone is in fastboot mode (blue led) choose "Select kernel to flash". No need to turn off the phone and play with cable and vol-down button...

Flash any (4.2.2) stock rom and try again. That's why your WiFi probably isn't working. Either that or you didn't flash the kernel zip file (ex thunderzap4.1.zip) after fast booting the kernel img.

I am also facing the same issue where wifi is not working on any Rom. So after following the steps mentioned earlier. What exactly should be done like boot to recovery then flash gapps and then reboot. Once booted flash boot.img from the Rom and then boot to recovery to flash the full kernal zip package..?

I have a HUGE problem. Please help me ASAP!
I just flashed my Xperia L to CM 12.1. I was already on CM 12 before. So I went into recovery, wiped everything and installed the new ROM from zip. Everything worked fine except for the network signal. I was getting no network signal at all. So, when I rebooted the phone, I saw that the ThunderZap kernel was also removed. I tried to flash the kernel using flashtool, but this particular variant has 2 .img files (bootlp and bootkk). I flashed them both using the FlashtTool. Now, when I reboot my phone, all I see is the ThunderZap logo. Please help me ASAP, as this is my only primary driver phone.

[Q] N00bQuestion about Flashing...

Hi, i'm from Colombia, and I have this Sony Xperia E C1504, Rooted with SRSRoot, but my current firmware is 11.3.A.0.56, and i find this http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-j-e/general/how-to-xperia-e-c1505-firmware-11-3-2-t2435957 (Firmware 11.3.A.2.23), I have some questions, i'm sorry i'm newbie here, doing this, the only thing i flashed was an old tablet with 2.3.3GBread.
1. Will this firmware work for me? ( i have C1504 and it says C1505, also, im From Colombia, does it matter?
2. My phone is rooted, do i need to flash the kernel when i move (if i can) to 2.23 in order to root like is shown?
Ty for your time, i just had to ask
Okay, firstly, there isn't any firmware with build number 11.3.A.0.56 - I'm taking it you have 0.47 instead of 0.56.
Sure, you can install it - I have a C1504 too, and I think it is safe to say that you can use any Xperia E firmware - even the Xperia E dual ones (C1604 or C1605).
and about root?
Sir, thank you, i have one more question. My phone is rooted with this current firmware, in order to root the 2.23 Firmware here's how to do it:
1. Flash kernel 11.3.A.0.47
2. Root your XE using Framaroot. (Gandalf exploit)
3. Flash kernel 11.3.A.2.23
But, since i've my phone rooted, do i need to follow the steps above?

Okay... I didn't even know that we had a 0.56 firmware....
@XperiaEss Unlocked bootloader and fastboot aren't needed to flash FTF files; only flash mode is required for that, and flash mode works on locked bootloaders too.

yessss...exactly....but can it be flashed through CWM?? (img, elf, sin)
So, can i do it, right? Flash that firmware to update it, i've used titanium backup, and everything is now in mi SD.
But, in order to root? do i need to flash kernel? is that the only way ?
@leolook Yeah, sorry we took it a bit off-topic. If you mean you want to upgrade to 2.23, downgrade to 0.47 kernel, use Framaroot and then upgrade to 2.23 kernel again - sure, no problems. LOng as you have a Titanium backup or Nandroid, you're fine.
@XperiaEss Those can be flashed via fastboot, which needs an unlocked bootloader (unfortunately).
@NSDCars5
so.... boot.img in roms work with flashing with CWM
but seperate boot.img files has to be flashed through fastboot?

Probably, but you also need to modify the updater-script (in META-INF/com/google/android) to extract the file. The line will read something like:
Code:
package_extract_file("boot.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p3");
(This one was from jjm34's CM10.)

[D2403] Easy ROOTing and Safety unlocking bootloader

My method is completely safe and tested repeatedly. Thanks to my friend and kernel developers Freack_v from XDA, I can provide you with a working kernel unRIC for D2403 with CWM recovery. Original thread on 4pda.ru/forum
What you need:
Download stock JB 4.3 for D2303 (don't worry).
Download stock 4.4.4 for D4303
Download Towelroot
Flashtool latest version.
BackupTA 9.11 tool
UpdateSuperSU.zip for CWM install
Download kernel unRIC for D2403 with CWM recovery
----- And so everything is ready------
Run FLASHTOOL and flash the 4.3 to phone. You have now just M2.
Run towelroot and makeitrain. Now you have ROOT.
Plug again to Flashtool and backup rawTA partition (need enabled usb debugging). In the folder .../flashtool/custom/ appears folder with the name of the serial number of your M2 AQUA.
For redundancy, you can make a backup through utility BackupTA. You now have a backup TA partition with DRM keys. Now you can always bring them back and bring the phone to the factory state.
The next step is to unlock the bootloader (in the forum thread has instructions)
The Next step is to flash the latest stock firmware 4.4.4, you can immediately connect in fastboot mode (for economy time to booting) and flash the kernel unRIC for D2403 with CWM or ALL M2 wit TWRP recovery from attached files.
Acces to RECOVERY - When it booting hold down the volume down button as soon as the lights pink LED, releasing this button when orange LED.
flash updateSuperSu.zip in CWM and reboot.
ALL done - you have full ROOT + CWM + backup TA (DRM keys)
IF you can't enter in to recovery try attached kernel ****SHIFT GPIO*** or download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60379837&postcount=22

It's the last file attached, boot_D2403_4.4.4_here.zip. Just extract the archive.
I'm testing this method atm, will post my results later.
EDIT: Finally finished rooting my device... I did everything as it says, rooted and made a backup of TA, then spent some time with fastboot drivers (had to restart my w8.1 x64 to disable "driver signature enforcement" to allow installing driver), flashed 4.4.4, flashed boot, made into recovery (first question was with root permissions, I answered yes), then again into recovery, installed SuperSU, when exiting asked again about root, again yes, got stuck into bootloop... Back to recovery again, wiped everything (cache, dalvik cache and even data), phone boots up, SuperSU shows up in menu. Tried with Root Explorer, System mounts r/w nicely. Spent almost 2 hours rooting, but at least I feel safe now. As I'm a noob when it comes to Sony devices (I've only rooted a few Samsung devices), this was a very good practise!

[Rootable Kernel/ TWRP 3 - E6833/E6853/E6883 Marshsmellow ] [32.1.A.1.163] AU]

Okay here we go,
Marvelous Super-Huge Thanks to
@AndroPlus for his kernel source
and helping me out with the kernel.elf situation.
@KbaB.BroS for testing and confirming. <== E6853
@Ashray_Vk for testing and confirmation <== E6883
@Neil_Armstrong_ for testing and confirmation <== E6833
The boot.img uses the bootrec setup.
Flash via fastboot
fastboot flash boot E6853_MM_ROOTABLE_PERMISSIVE_boot.img
Note: You DO NOT NEED TO ROOT YOUR DEVICE to perform root operations via adb shell !
just plug in open a terminal on pc and run
adb root
adb remount
adb shell
Use @Chainfire 's latest SuperSU, this version will apply root to the boot.img (system-less root).
I have not activated my phone so i will need some confirmation as to the correct function
of communications.
There are no additional modifications to the kernel other than what androplus has already
introduced to his kernel sources.

TWRP 3 has an issue with no adb access, i'll figure that out when I do.
I am fairly certain it is in one of the init.*.rc files
I recommend users of AndroPlus 's twrp build to remain with that build unless there is an issue.
I mainly wanted twrp 3 because of the improved terminal. =)

I assert that external storage read/write is now functional for this recovery build in conjuction with the provided boot.img/kernel build.
It is the setup I am using. My external card is 128gb exfat format. Any issue from here foward is of user error or format/condition of external card.
I did notice in one instance, that removing the external card, inserting into a card reader on pc and removing/deleting the following items
.android
Android
customized_capability.xml
Then reinserting card into phone did appear to restore access. If you left your card in the phone the entire time your ran LP through to the time you updated to MM, then remove the card and perform the above, and you should be sorted.
There is a backup issue with this TWRP build in that backups made to an exfat formatted external card must be uncompressed as there seems to be an issue/error/bug with libtar.
I do not intend to continue any additional projects on this front as I am trying to get a build of cm13 working.
I am not taking any requests, outside of attempting to fix anything goofy/wrong in this kernel build.
I have attached my kernel defconfigs for the E6853 and E6883/E6833
I am working off of the MM AU firmware release E6853_32.1.A.1.163_1299-1469_R3C.ftf

I also remember that androplus had done a kernel for the z5p dual too, but he abandoned it later.
And yes, the e6883 is the dual version
Firstly, thank you moonbutt74.
Secondly, I require some clarification or rather steps in which to get this on to my device and working.
I am currently running Lollipop, Boot Loader Unlocked and rooted via Androplus' method then running Auras' ROM based on the .200 firmware of Lollipop. Ideally I want to be able to retain my data but do I install Marshmallow before proceeding with what is written in the original post here?
A quick step-by-step guide would be massively appreciated as I do not want to end up twiddling my thumbs and having to go through the process several times and still fail to achieve the desired result.

Hi, I'm sorry but that is not within the scope of this disaster.
xD
Okay seriously though, the instructions for flashing the images are in OP, the most reliable means to back up your data
is to use adb provided your phone is rooted, or just copy over from MTP if on Windows.
Firmware flashing is covered elsewhere. If i have the chance I will do a How-to for that exercise in general but in General.
