One of my friends gave me their Motorola CLIQ XT from Walmart because they are switching to T-Mobile. So can somebody tell me how to root and get CWM on this device? This is the device I'm talking about: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Walmart-Family-Mobile-Motorola-Cliq-XT-Wireless-Android-Phone/15063381
Thanks!
and if it helps the model number is MB501

I opened a thread because i thought that if i used the method used with the T-Mobile version it would brick the phone that i have had for less than 10 minutes. Excuse me.

What is it that you need mate? Root that phone? If so...Search through this site first, if unable to find it. Google continues to be your best friend as posted by the member above you
Cheers,
Thanks! I found it and now its rooted with CWM!
Everytime I flash CWM 4.0.0.5 with Command Prompt, when I reboot the phone, then try to get back into recovery instead of CWM, i get the stock Moto recovery. How do I fix that?
Edit: Never mind i just flashed CWM in ROM Manager
Cliq XT Rom.
If anyone has the STOCK rom for the Family Mobile Cliq XT, I'd love to have it. Got a Tmobile one, and want to use it on Family Mobile.

The ROMs aren't very different at all. I don't know if you have to be unlocked for it to work, but I would try a Walmart SIM in it, and if that doesn't work, just unlock it.
There are some differences between the Tmobile and Family Mobile ROM's. There are improvements so that your MMS works right, and so you can better connect to their 3G network. You can use the base phone for voice, and data, limited to 2g, and MMS is flaky, at best. This phone is really obsolete, I cannot even install Amazon appstore on it. I've flashed it to Froyo, but it runs like a dog. Plus, the screen is small, and I have a difficult time typing on it. I'm 51, and getting crappy eyesight. But, I'm stuck with this phone till I can afford something better, or can get my MOTO Electrify to use domestic GSM towers...And, yes, I know the Photon has been cracked, but the file won't work with the Electrify. :{

Hello, I'm a newbie and I don't know if this has been posted before.
I was planning to buy Nexus 5 in couple of days but I heard that after 4.4.3 update, the device is experiencing certain issues with WiFi and some other stuffs. My work solely depends upon WiFi . Some say that phone has become a bit laggy too.
Just wanted to ask when I receive my Nexus 5, is it possible to upgrade 4.4 to 4.4.2? Instead of 4.4.3?

I don't know about others but for me, it actually improved several things, like that bug that let apps running with 0b of ram usage, also battery and I see no lag whatsoever (with any version).
If you reeeeeally want to flash directly 4.4.2 I think that you can either get the older OTA (you can get it here in XDA) or flash the complete stock image 4.4.2, you can download it from Google's official page (Google search nexus stock images).

When I searched "nexus 4.4.2 update download" on google, it showed something like "factory images for nexus devices". Did u mean that?
As I told you earlier, I'm a newbie. I don't understand properly what you are saying. Can you please explain what to do?
And.. Is there any risk? Installing this cause any problem in the phone? Do mention that..

When you buy a new Nexus 5, it should come with Android 4.4.3. If you have any concerns about the bugs and performance, and would rather have 4.4.2, you can flash that on there instead. Completely stock, original version of Android are called factory images.
Since you're buying it new out of the box, it should be no issues nor risks, with downgrading it to 4.4.2. When you buy it, before you do anything to it, please come back to this forum and explore or ask questions about how to do so. Doing any changes to the phone is much easier when you just bought it. So don't do anything to it, don't install any apps or whatever, other than sign in to your Google account on the first start up. Then come back here and we'll do our best to help you out.

I've never had any issues with wifi nor lag even with 4.4.2.
When I took it out of the box I was highly disappointed coming from a S3 and a Note 1. Volume of the speaker was really low and dpi of the screen way to high. Hey, it's a HD screen and I am not blind (yet)
The above issues can be fixed by rooting it and messing with the values. Makes it 100% better.
But, I am still in the process of getting my money back from Google (getting the run around for a month now).
Recording video is useless. In 4.4.2 there was a hiss in the audio which was fixed in 4.4.3. but now recordings sound like they were made underwater. Listen to this with the headphones on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjQYXtU7auM
The optical stabilisation is also bad. The image wobbles and is useless for me as I am grabbing my Note 1 to record video at the moment.
If the above doesn't apply to you, then for the money it is an awesome phone

yeah sorry didn't remember the newbie part haha.
Then if you really don't know what I'm talking about, you should stay stock and in the newest version for your phone (right now being 4.4.3).
Usually there is no risk when installing ROMs or other things, however you should just read a lot right now, read what flash is, bootloader, Roms, root, etc. to learn and reduce the risks you might encounter. You can start with the stickies threads in the general section.
When you learn at least the basics, then you can start to worry about what version you can use, what radio, etc.
But first enjoy your phone as is out of the box, it might be better than you think. ?

I just ordered 2 Nexus 5's off of the Play Store last Friday (June 13th). When they showed up they were running 4.4.2. However, they were the Bright Red 32GB ones as the Black 32GB's were out of stock at the time. It now looks like the Black ones are back in stock so it's possible that they have been updated to 4.4.3

Odds are no. They most likely won't come with 4.4.3 unless they were made after the update came out. Just try settings/about phone/system updates. There is a refresh button try it once a day update should come soon. I flashed back to stock 4.4.2 and it showed up right away. I haven't seen any of the issues some are taking about. Take it all with a grain of salt no one posts abbot no problems... They only complain about issues.

I have received the update yesterday and i'm also using fido in the montreal area. My advice: stay away from this update for the moment. Lots of bugs.... will probably flash back the 4.4 image tomorrow and will wait for 5.1 instead.
My son just got the OTA on Telus this afternoon. Be patient, you will get it.

believe me, you don't want to update.... be patient and wait for 5.1. lots of issues in 5.0. Android L is great in general, but with all those bugs, it doesn't worth it for now. Actually I can't even charge my phone unless I turn it off...
And there is nothing wrong, google said it could take many weeks before all N5 get the update.

Don't worry about the OTA, just flash a ROM and call it a day.
Hey guys, I would really appreciate some help with this. My phone is often extremely laggy, to the point that when it's asleep and I get a phone call, it wouldn't wake up for me to be able to answer it (even though I can hear it ringing) until the person calling hangs up. I know TW is famous for being slow but this is just ridiculous. The only thing I have running in the background with the exception of normal TW stuff is the DS Battery Saver module (only set to control wifi/Data, not killing apps) and yet often I can see that the phone is using more than 2.2GB of RAM (after I've killed everything in the task manager). How can this be? Surely the system itself doesn't need THAT much RAM? I shudder to think what phones with a smaller RAM are like.
I'm running the Thunderbolt ROM (basically just deodexed stock 5.0.1) with Xposed and the "Fix Lollipop Memory Leak" module. Is there anything else I can do? I love the design of this phone but I am close to getting rid of it and going back to Sony which was always smooth as silk. I would prefer to stick to the Note though since I love the design and extra functionalities but what use are them if I have enough time to make a cup of coffee every time I try to do something?
It must be your Rom. I used to love to installed custom rom on my S1 and S2. But at the end of the day, custom roms are all buggy.
Sent from my SM-N915T using XDA Free mobile app
I would agree with you but if anything, it was worse when I was on stock which is why I decided to try a custom rom (and I tried many buggy ones before settling on this). I'm not someone who spend my time flashing various roms just to experiment, it's usually because I find the performance or features lacking.
Have you tried to wipe everything and odin back to stock? Im on stock, unroot, and I dont have any issues yet.

Same. I just don't even bother with Custom ROMs except if it gives more battery life. KNowing how hard Samsung has worked to make customization harder, I haven't bothered with custom ROMs for my edge.
Also I too have high RAM usage always but it doesn't make my phone any slower or laggier than past Bloatwiz phones. I am on 4.4.4 stock with a bunch of T Mobile stuff disabled.

Yeah I wonder if I should revert back to KitKat. My phone was great when I first got it, even when I had a whole heap of stuff installed. But maybe I'll wait for 5.1.1 first and see if that helps (the 915G still hadn't received 5.1.1 yet).

From what I have seen, you can no longer downgrade Android once you update to 5.1.1
Suffice it to say I will see if there is a way to stop my phone from auto updating itself. Kit Kat is working well for me and it retains all the native Edge features that made the Edge different.
I was able to get 6.5 hours screen time with my phone with location turned off and a full day of note taking, facebook, and music

No. Not really. Like I said, I One Noted all day with my S pen, music, facebook alot and Chrome. I managed battery by using power saving mode, turning off location and turning off sync and turning it on every hour for about 5 minutes to get my emails in.
Today I did gaming and art on my Edge and got about 4 hours

So I've been back on stock 4.4.4 for a few days now. It is simply fantastic! The difference is huge! No problems what so ever now. I would like to stay on this for the life of my phone but I am a little concerned about the lack of security updates (such as Stagefright). What are your thoughts on this?
BTW, I noticed that Android system and kernel often takes up the majority of my battery percentage. Each by between 9-16%. Do you get this as well?

Yep, thats normal
And don't worry, i got the stagefright update on 4.4.4 and I was on MetroPCS lol. MetroPCS rides on T Mobile, but its just goes to illustrate that you have nothing to worry about. Glad you are enjoying your Note Edge again. Its a shame Samsung forgot they released this beast of a phone. Imagine this thing with the Note 5's but Edged version of the new TW. Nah, makes too much sense for consumers. Doesn't make sense if you are trying to get people to buy new phones.
Anyways just make sure you never upgrade to 5.1.1 That thing is a point of no return

I can't even begin to describe how happy I am with my phone right now. I remember a couple of months after I first got it, a friend of mine was watching me use it and commented on how snappy it was. Then more recently, not only did the sluggishness drive me crazy, I was watching others with envy, especially my girlfriend who is rocking my old Z1 Compact which still performs like a little rocket. Anyway, I am now back to loving the Note Edge again. I even prefer it over the new Notes, looks and all.
I just want to ask though, how did you manage to get the Stagefright update without updating the firmware? Software Update in the Settings won't allow me to update at all because "the operating system on my device has been modified in an unauthorised way" (I guess they're talking about the root) and Kies 3 tells me there's a new firmware available which I guess is 5.0.1 again (the N915G still doesn't have 5.1.1 as far as I know).

Lol, exactly. I wouldn't be worried about your phone at all. Unless you do shady online stuff
Motorola stated that Moto E would keep being updated, yet after a few months Motorola announces it will not receive any further updates. Well I guess the same thing might happen with Moto G 3rd gen, but I already have it so can't do nothing but suck it up. Will I still be fine with flashing updated roms in the future even if it stops receiving updates from Motorola? Hope this makes sense, thank you in advance.
Moto stated the Moto E would receive at least one update, and it did. It went from 5.0.2 to 5.1. You have to read the fine print, but that's what it says, so Moto kept its promise. I know not all Moto Es have gotten the update yet, but they will.
As far as the Moto G goes, it was already confirmed by Moto that it will get 6.0, so there is no worry. I'm not sure why people are freaking out over updates. I mean I have the Moto G 2015, and with 5.1.1 it is super smooth, and works perfect for me. I don't even care about 6.0 or beyond since the phone works perfect as is. People shouldn't get a phone thinking ahead as to "Will it get the next Android release?". Instead they should get a phone for what it does when you get it. Does it work? Is it smooth? Can you use it without issues? If yes then get it even if it nevers see one update.
Now as far as ROMs go this phone has multiple ROM support already, and it just came out, so I don't think you need to worry if you feel you need to change ROMs just to do it, as it will be supported for years to come I'm sure. Like I said it runs perfect for me on the stock 5.1.1, so I see no need to use a different ROM.

Thank you for the kind reply and for not bashing me for my wrong statement. In my opinion I always like to feel updated, to have new features and feel like my phone is constantly evolving (for the better of course, otherwise I won't update it). I feel like my phone runs smoother on CM's latest nightly, the kernel was highly improved recently, not sure tho since I can't directly compare it to stock.

You are, of course, right.
I haven't yet pulled the trigger. It seems (in the US) we are still in the announcement 'season' for phones. I'm waiting until HTCs event passes in a few days... Then it seems news is slated to slow down. At that point I'm likely to jump in with a moto g.
My addendum, perhaps caveat, to your statement would be buying under the absolute knowledge of an update. My thinking... My htc m7 has 32gb storage, which is almost perfect. I need to repeat that, but I want certain things in a certain price range. Moto g offers that, save for 16gb being max storage. With the new way android 6 handles storage, it's my understanding that external sds can be used for all things, as they are formatted and treated as internal. That allows me to easily beat 32gb with a phone that has all I want in the rest of the specifications (5", awesome battery, 2gb, near stock, unlocked, wake without power button, etc.).
Then again, i would not go in expecting 6.1 (or whatever comes next), though Moto will likely be providing it nonetheless. [emoji4]
