Well. I have this issue since I bought the phone.
So, when using the microphone, either during calls or recording myself, the sound output is really low.
When on calls, people often complains about how low they're hearing me, and when I record myself and then listen to it, the sound is indeed really low.
I'm on Mahdi, using Franco Kernel (clean install).
Is there anyone suffering this or know any possible fix?
There's as fix for that. It's in this q&a section or the general section I believe.

I'm having the exact same problem, Oneplus support said the update should release in mid Oct to fix the mic issue and laggy screen, the sooner the better.

Just got just Nexus S 4G today, and have experienced during all calls a staticy buzzing sound when the person in the other end is speaking. The best way to explain it is , it sounds as if there is gain on their voices are the louder points.
I so don't want to exchange, but curious if any One else has seen this.. or heard this.
I'm going to mess with voodoo sound tomorrow to see if it helps any. I'm rooted with netarch's kernel, but it was happening before this.
Thanks!

I'm on the European Version of the Nexus S - I9023 and I'm getting that too... I want to think that it's not the phone itself but I don't know... This buzzing only happens if the volume is over 50% and sometimes even at lower volume levels...
Does anybody know what this might be? Is it a software issue where, for example, the pitch on the calls is to loud and maybe te Voodoo sound would fix it, or is it definitely a hardware issue?

I spoke today with a guy that fixes phones for a living and he told me that the issue is the filter from the earpiece. The phone might've suffered a bump at the store when the people there handled it and that messed with the filter. He said that I can take it to the Samsung service to get it fixed or I can leave it like this... He said it doesn't get worst in time if the issue doesn't get resolved...
So not sure what's up, using that icecream fake rom and OC kernel, and I hear audio hissing most noticible through headphones when there is a noise, there is a hissing going on. It stops after audio stops though, not sure what's up.
I don't know if my rom and kernel are related to this, may have been here before? Anyone else notice this?
Try putting different rom and see the issue is still there cauz I been running ice cream rom with faux123's kernel and never had single problem like this.

Just tried this and still the same problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426590
Guess my phone is broken?
Also tried returning the ICS one to stock same problem. Also tried it on my hd595 headphones, same problem.
I should mention it does it on the speakers as well, but it's much less noticible.
Do factory reset and if its still bad than you have bad hardware.

By factory reset do you mean like unroot and all?
Well try out stock rom first and if you still have problem than i am pretty sure its ur phone but going stock won't hurt because you would be returning them any way.

It's not your ROM its he audio chip in the phone. There is a thread in skyrocket general where we have been discussing it.
Only workaround is bluetooth or higher quality headphones kinda mask it.

So what exactly did you guys do for workaround?

Wait so all phones do this? But I mean it's so loud... well there is a tiny scratch on it too, might as well replace it anyway.
I can't use bluetooth headphones though because I have an icontrolpad and I don't think it can connect to multiple audio devices. Oh well, I don't use it for heavy music stuff, but I mean it's just really loud that hissing.

Nothing, you either ignore it or go bluetooth

Yup, just some of us notice it and others don't. I forget about it unless I try to hear for it. If it's extremely loud I'd get a replacement
So replaced it, same problem. Oh well, but I mean I guess you can ignore it, but hissing bugs me, not enough to not love this phone though.
Even have LTE in Pleasanton.
Thx fags for help anyway
I also have the popular microphone issue in my Nexus 5, the person i am calling complains of low or distant voice.
I have looked over for solutions but haven't found any that are a definite fix.
I'v tried covering the secondary mic, using apps to enhance mic volume, use safe mode to determine any app interference but nothing so far has helped. Using a headset or using speakerphone to call everytime is not a sufficient solution.
Finally i am asking here if there is any other fix available that i have missed in my search?
Can flashing a custom rom solve this problem? or is there a patch or mod available that can help?
P.S. I am running the latest android version so please don't suggest me to update.

I will look into this but i am not sure its a very good fix, its kind of a trade off though.
The first procedure sounds easy enough to do however the second one is kinda impossible, cos you need to understand qualcomm's internal coding to make any changes to help solve the problem.
Lets see if someone else can suggest any other fix.
I am hoping someone would say that he flashed a particular custom rom and the thing works fine with it.
Any other suggestions?

Hey all,
Everything was fine and dandy with calls being loud and clear, until about a few days ago.
One day the call quality from my side just randomly went from great to terrible.
I can hear the other side just fine, but from my side its really low-volume and barely hearable.
Things I've tried:
-Flashing different radios (25R,30O,33R,Find7, radio from the latest nightlies)
-Flashing different ROMs and kernels
-Switching network modes (LTE, 3g, 2g)
-Combinations of the above
If anyone has experience dealing with issues like this/knows anything to improve the call volume from my side, any help would be very much appreciated.

You are not alone, I've had similar issues. For me speaker phone still works perfect, its just my voice during a regular call that's terrible.

Yup, the speakerphone works great but its inconvenient.
Gutted to have such a basic function impaired.
Hopefully this issue will be fixed by the next OTA, which should be next week around Monday.
Same here. My call quality is really bad. When I am speaking on the phone I'm typically running around desperately trying to find a quieter place, with the phone held up to my left ear and a finger plugged right into my other ear, hunched over like Quasimodo in a desperate attempt to understand 50% of what the other person is saying.
I learned one thing from the OPO. You actually do get exactly what you pay for. Lesson learned. :good:
win
So, after updating to the latest version of vanir and re-flashing the 33R radio, my in-call volume magically got back to normal.
I wish everyone affected best of luck and patience :fingers-crossed:
OPO hype much more than the phone deserves. Not going to last long

@Kiahnlliya I agree with you 100%. Same lesson learned. In fact, if it was not for the invite system, I wouldn't have bought this phone. I just had to own the phone, most difficult to buy.

@Kiahnlliya @jrior001 @latenightchameleon My in call audio volume from the earpiece is really very low & muffled. I think I am audible on the other end, coz haven't got any complaints from people talking to me. I am on stock 33R unrooted. This is really annoying & really hope I can get rid of this issue with a firmware upgrade.

You should try the latest cm nightlies, they've pushed a bunch of improvements to audio and volumes.
It's a very simple fix if rooted. You need to edit a value in mixer_paths.xml. Some custom ROMs increase the value.

It'll be very helpful if you could please let us know what exactly has to be edited, with what values, in the mixer_paths.xml file.
Thanks in advance.
You can find all the details in this thread or just flash the zip.

No you'll need root or custom recovery to flash the zip unfortunately. Otherwise you will need to wait for your ROM to be updated. CM have merged this in their commits so hopefully if your on stock CM11S you'll see this in the next update.
thanks alot mate for the fix.
Simple fix found
Hey i was having the same robotic voice on the reciever's side as well and i found a simple fix for it! just disable the "ok google" detection and delete your voice recording as well. It worked for me.. It might work for you as well.

Huge thanks for this simple fix! I was beginning to worry that my unit had a defective mic
Just as the title states, they can't hear me but I can hear them. They can only hear me when I activate speakerphone. What is the problem here?
I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and say it's your microphone.

I'm looking into the same thing.
Tried safe mode, wiping and going back to factory, replacing the board with the microphone itself, doesn't work.
I followed some advice on here and installed ASR, a free sound recording app, and it recorded and played my voice back without a problem.
Try using headphones with an inbuilt mic, you could see if it's a headphone issue.
