Something strange is happening to my Nexus 5 (rooted, stock ROM & kernel): it doesn't download some kind of files, regardless of if I'm connected to a Wi-Fi or to a cellular network.
When I surf the internet through Chrome everything works fine; pages and images load correctly. However if I try downloading, for example, an .apk, the download is not successful, it doesn't even start. Similarly, I can perfectly chat on WhatsApp with no problems, however I cannot download photos or videos. And again, Twitter loads everything but pictures (I can see all the tweets on my home but I can't see any kind of pic, not even the profile pictures). Also, I don't get tweets notification. I already cleared the cache of every application, and I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Twitter, with no results.
This happened in the past because of a wrong configuration of my APN, but since this happens on Wi-Fi too, I cannot explain the cause. Can you help me?

Already tried using many different browsers. It's not a browser's problem because
- I have never had any problem with Chrome
- The problem I'm reporting is affecting multiple apps

Yes, I did
Finally I discovered what the problem was. There was something wrong with the /data partition (or with its permissions, I don't know) and I couldn't write on the internal SD card. I realized this was the problem because:
- I took some photos and they didn't save
- I took a screenshot and an alert notification said it couldn't be saved
- ES File Browser saw /sdcard empty.
I resolved with a factory reset.

I have been having data problems, and those problems have been fixed with one exception, the Facebook app does not work. I only receive notifications. Nothing loads on the app however, I only get the top bar of the app then it constantly tries to load but it says connection is lost, even though I can immediately go into my web browser and start browsing the internet.
I use Friendstream too, which works, so its not much of a problem, its just annoying and cumbersome. Especially since I still get notifications from Facebook. Does anyone know what could be wrong?
Try reinstalling the app from the play store. If not, clearing the cache+dalvik after the reinstall might help things.

I tried all of that and nothing works. It doesn't want to connect at all. Extremely frustrating.

Hi all,
Have a strange "issue" with my Z3 Dual.
I noticed yesterday that the Downloader seemed to be running, even though I hadn't asked the phone to download anything. Sliding the notification open seems to suggest that the download isn't actually running, but simply keeps notifying.
Data is not being sent or received, and the items always seemed to be images. I had thought it was my work exchange email (through Mailwise) or maybe even IM chats downloading images. Uninstalled them and reinstalled and that did nothing.
Finally this morning, I received and email (through my Gmail) from my property manager, and it had a pdf, the same pdf was trying to be downloaded by the manager! So it appears, that on my phone at least, Gmail is asking my downloader to download, without the actual download initiating, but simply keeps a persistent notification there! I also have a nexus 9 with the newest Gmail and its not happening there.
Has anyone else had this issue? I'm about to roll back latest update of Gmail to see if it fixes.....

Rolling back Gmail to original version has not helped.
It has happened to me, and it seems to be when using autodownload on any of the email apps if it begins to download and you suddenly lose the data is connection it gets stuck.
Just go to settings and apps and go to the Download app and clear the cache and data and that will take care of the persistent notification, then try to adjust your autodownload settings.

Agree with everything you've said, but in gmail, i've auto download of attachments on wifi to OFF, and Images to "ASk before showing". Not sure there are any other settings I can access?
I have, for the time being, turned OFF notifications from the download app - this is obviously not idea if I really DID have an actual download of a large size or being stuck I have no way of monitoring it.
Open to any other suggestions / ideas

Same happened to me (also have Z3 dual) but updating Gmail app seemed to fix this issue.
I have the dual sim z3. I originally had my active tmobile SIM in SIM slot 2 when I put it in SIM Slot 1 the problem went away. Rebooted and no more download manager in the background.
Firstly I want to apologize if there's a thread on this. I tried searching and didn't find anything. Google fails me as well.
For a few months now, Chrome has been driving me insane on my stock nordic Z3 (5.0.2 with the .690 firmware). I also have the most recent version of Chrome installed.
Every single time I open the app, it works for about 2 seconds, then completely freezes for around 15 seconds after which a message pops up stating "Chrome is not responding. Would you like to close it?" If I press "OK", it obviously closes the app and the problem appears again when I restart it. If I choose "wait", Chrome works just fine until the next time I open it. EDIT: The freezing problem started happening three times in a row a few days ago.
This happens every single time I open the app, whether launching it or opening it from the recent apps menu.
I'm pretty certain the problem has been around since the v39 build of Chrome, as 38 worked just fine. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it. Uninstalled updates and re-updated it, updating to lollipo didn't help, I also did a completely fresh install today (repairing via Sony Bridge for Mac) and it didn't help either. And apparently I can't go back to v38 anymore since lollipop doesn't seem to support it.
I would really want to use Chrome, as I've gotten used to it and enjoyed it quite a lot. I'd really appreciate the help.

Tried it, sad to say it didn't work either. Interestingly it now does the same 15 second freeze, but without the error message in the end. Curious indeed.
EDIT: Got the error message again.

I Use data 90% of the time, and various routers when on wifi. The problem occurs in all circumstances.
Are you rooted? Unlocked bootloader?
You say you are on the Nordic version of .690, is that the original region for the device you bought and the area you reside in?
Can you revert back to KK by flashing a FTF for your device and region and try V38 again to see if that works still.

I have a completely untouched device. So no root, locked bootloader and it's always been that way. Thus Nordic is the original region of my device.
I'd rather not flash back to kitkat, but I can tell you that I tried reverting back to v38 before updating to lollipop and it worked normally without the freezing issue.
This is my version of chrome on Lollipop. Can you update to this? I am also not rooted so you should be able to update to this

ok without logs I can go no further with this. Is there any chance you can pull some logs off your device?

Maybe try the beta version of chrome in case it's a bug which has been fixed but not yet rolled out to chrome. Perhaps try this first as it'll be quicker!
Perhaps it's some data associated with chrome that's getting pulled down after each restore. Perhaps you can try, on a desktop pc, backing up your bookmarks and then deleting them, and clearing chrome's data on your phone, then trying again? And if that doesn't work try getting rid of extensions (not that I think they should be pulling them down as chrome for android doesn't yet support them, although I'm sure I read years ago that one day they would). And anything else associated with your chrome account.
Another one, perhaps quicker (not sure) would be to see if you can associate your phone with a new google account with no previous chrome use and see if it goes wrong with that one. It would help to rule out account-related problems.
Another possibility is that it's not chrome causing the problem but something it relies on; google play services, for example. Perhaps clear data on any apps chrome could conceivably use.
I'm happy to report that my problem is now solved, though still a giant mystery.
My upper speaker broke and I had to get it replace under warranty. I got insanely lucky as they replaced both front and backside glass pieces, the frame, the screen module itself and of course the speakers. So I've now got a brand-new looking phone So happy.
Anyway, I complained about the software being a mess so they also did a complete reinstall and after that Chrome works absolutely perfectly. As magically does everything else too. Not yet a sign of lollipop's previous lagging and rebooting.
It still bugs me, however, that why would Chrome suddenly start having this unreasonable issue. I had tried everything suggested in this thread and nothing worked. My own clean install didn't work. I'm really quite bothered by this.
"Sorry, there was a problem with your request" - Instagram after Nougat 11/05/17 upp.
So, probably half an hour ago, I updated my phone to the newest version of Nougat. (G930FXXU1DQD7) after update and formatting and installing apps. Instagram suddenly does not let me login? Whenever I try to login, it gives me the message "Sorry, there was a problem with your request". I've tried Factory data reset my phone but still the same. I don't know if this is a common problem but it worries me in a way. Not entirely sure if I'm supposed to post a thread like this on here but any help is appreciated. Thanks.
edit: 11/05/17 23:30. I downgraded my software down to Marshmallow just to see if it was the updates fault. It is still the same, giving the same error. I tried logging into Instagram using a different device and on my computer. This works fine but on my phone it doesn't. I'm not entirely sure if It's my phone that has the problem.
another update: It seems to be Instagram is the only thing that's having the problem. I mean, I've tried logging into different social media apps and they work perfectly fine (snapchat, facebook, twitter..)

I've tried it with data and it still gives me the same message. I've tried it on other device, also the same. However, some devices (iPad) works perfectly fine. I believe that it has something to do with my Instagram account. I just don't know why.
p.s I tried logging in on my computer and it works perfectly fine.

Hi,
I just updated my Verizon V10 to a VZW V30 and I've encountered a problem. that I've been unable to find a solution for.
Google apps have had issues connecting to the internet either via Wi-Fi or Cellular data. the apps i'm having problems with are:
Assistant
Search
Maps
Both Chrome and GMail are fine. But the others are not.
I've tried downgrading them to previous versions, clearing data and cache data, force stopping and restarting, rebooting the phone, cycling data and wifi. all to no avail.
None of my other apps have issues and I can get to google maps via chrome, do searches via chrome, etc...
Is this a known issue? Is there a fix for this?

There were no permissions to use wifi, in the applications setting for those apps, and I couldn't find anywhere else to set those permissions.
ALso what about 4G? They don't connect via that either.
I'm almost ready to factory reset the phone and see if that helps. But it takes a long time to set it up again.

yeah a factory reset must do it, maybe its because of the update (that happens alot) but do a backup first
