First off, this is my first post (Woopty doo horraaaay) and I desperately need help.
I have a Wifi-Only Motorola Xoom, it used to be on 3.2.1, and I had it rooted, with only using the Tiamat 2.2.2 Moray root.
I've been wanting to upgrade to ICS for a while, and I finally am. I've had to reset my xoom back to stock 4 or 5 times now, and I'm annoyed and want to do it right. Starting off, my Xoom is starting on ICS, unlocked, unrooted.
I've done many different orders of stuff. First, I flashed the clockwork recovery mod, and then I go into it, and installed the EOS-Wingray-60, but after I did that, when I start up the xoom, it never loads, it stays on the "Team EOS" boot animation. I tested it, and left it on all night, and woke up and it was still on team eos. Next, I tried installing the universal root, (It worked), and THEN I installed the Wingray-60. Same problem, stuck on animation. I've repeated these several times, and am not sure what to do.
Pretty much all I want is to be able to overclock it. What order should I do when installing roots and things?
I have wingray-60, Rogue Kernal 2.0.2 Kuma, Universal root, Clockwork recovery mod, Tiamat 3.0.5 (Not sure what this is, but when I use it, it automatically aborts the install), and I have all of the **** to restore it back to factory + my original 3.2.1 backup rooted is saved.
What order should I use the installs in, and which ones should I use? And is there something I'm doing wrong?
To have ICS with Overclock, all you need is:
- Unlocked Bootloader
- Rooted
- CWM Recovery installed (Rogue)
- TeamEOS Wingray Build 60
- TeamEOS Google Apps V10.5
All the other stuff you listed, you can move to another folder for archive. You don't need it.
Follow these steps.
Use Titanium Backup to backup any applications and data you want to save. If you don't care about the apps/data, you can skip this step.
Boot into Recovery. Power off, when the Moto logo shows for about 1 sec, hold the Vol down. Select Android Recovery.
From CWM, select wipe data/factory reset **Warning - you will blow away all your apps/data *** See note about backing up first.
Follow these steps to ensure a clean first install. Select "wipe cache partition"
Select "Yes - Wipe Cache"
Select "advanced"
Select "Wipe Dalvik Cache"
Select "Yes - Wipe Dalvik Cache"
Select "+++++Go Back+++++"
Select Install from Zip, Select Zip. Navigate to your Team EOS ROM, and install it
IMMEDIATELY after the ROM is installed, install the Google APPS file via Select ZIP.
If you did everything correctly, Reboot. Now Team EOS boot animation should start and ICS will be available to you along with the Market. Restore your apps. Select from Settings to OC to your desired speed and enjoy.

Now, just to be clear, I should root with the universal root?
Do you have Titanium Backup or Rom Manager? Do you also have SU access?
If you do, you most likely have Root, but you can always re-root if you are unsure.

No, I had just restored my xoom back to factory. I just rerooted, using the universal root, then I wiped all my crap like you said, then I downloaded Eos 60, then I download Gapps and when I download gapps, my xoom says "E:Can't open /sdcard/EOS_GApps_ics_4.0.3_v9.zip (bad) Installation aborted".
Now what :|
You need to flash this version of the CMW Recovery. Without it, you cannot see/mount your SDCard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979
After flashing, reboot into recovery again and it should see the external SDCard which now contains your EOS ROM and EOS GApps. Flash those back to back and you should be good to go.
I CAN see my external SDCard!!!
If I couldn't see it, how could I even be rooted? That's a whole 'nother problem!
Sorry, but yeah, I can't see everything just fine. It's just Gapps is refusing to install, and everytime I install Eos 60, my device won't boot.

Okay... Relax lol
Please answer these questions
1. Have u checked the md5 sums on the gapps and the eos rom? They are provided and a bad installation can mean your files are buggered sooo check the md5 are correct for each file
2. Did you install the rogue recovery or the modded cwm recovery using fastboot? (not using rom manager or whatever)
3. Have you factory wiped before installing the rom?
4. Did you wipe cache and dalvik cache?
5. Did you install the rom then the. Gapps?
6. Did you fix permissions once you finished flashing both files?
Thanks

First off, I finally got the EOS rom to work perfectly fine. My problem was that I never wiped the system's cache data or dalvik. And where do I check the Md5 sum for the Gapps? Because they still are a "(bad)" file.
Yes, I use a perfectly fine recovery, not rom manager, what permissions need fixing? Thanks.

What IS md5, what does it need to be, and where do I check it? I don't understand the jibberish in the second half of your sentence.

Md5 is a unique hash that is calculated depending on the file.. When they match you have exactly what has been uploaded by the developer. When they dont that can be a cause of your problems.. I suggest u know and understand that for future for almost any file you download where one is provided... You can brick your device and it would be your own fault if you didnt check an md5.. So jibberish, hardly..
Now... Google a free md5 program for your computer and download n install it
Go to your relevant eos thread in first post there is a link for latest gapps packages...
Download the latest 10.5v if u havnt
Look at the md5 its displayed when you download the file or on the side of the file in the list...
Put the downloaded file in the md5 program on your computer and compare to the one provided..
Now try to flash this package within recovery...
Be sure to wipe caches, dalvik... Flash gapps.. Go to advanced then fix permissions... Then reboot.. See if it works.. If not try factory reset, wipe cache n dalvik, install rom, then gapps, then fix permissions.. Then reboot

I just installed Unofficial CyanogenMod 7.2.0 RC1 and I got stuck with the logo android with arrow going around it. What should I do?
this is my first time to install this kind of stuffs.
Did u wipe data n cache before installing the rom?
1. Check if the rom is corrupt by extracting on pc. If it extracts d rom is fine. If not download again
2. Wipe data/reset, wipe cache prtition, go to advanced>>format /system and install the rom again

First of all, BE READY WITH UR FLASHABLE ROM.
It's obvious that you've CWM (i.e. ClockWorkMod) Recovery. So,
1. Go to CWM Recovery.
2. Go to "mounts and storage".
3. Select "format /system".
4. Select "Yes format".
NOTE:- Be **CAREFUL** after formating /system, ur phone can't be turned on. If you tried however or accidently pressed "reboot system now" from CWM main menu after formating /system, you'll end up bricking ur device.
So, Bro!! ***BE CAREFUL***!!!
It's not the same as wiping data or cache or dalvik cache. B'coz, after wiping data/cache/dalvik cache, you can normally switch on ur phone(UNLIKE formatting /system).
Also, After flashing Rom successfully, do this:
1. From CWM main menu, select "wipe data/factory reset" & confirm it.
2. Then select "wipe cache partition" & confirm it.
3. Then goto "advanced" and select "wipe dalvik cache" & confirm it.
4. & Then select "reboot system now"...
It may take 5-10 minutes to boot, so have patience...
ENJOY UR NEW ROM!!!

So I just did what you have said above and it's been more than 10 minutes and all I am seeing is a black screen with the ANDROID.
Why is this happening? I did all what you have instructed but no luck. :crying:
O.K.!!
Flash this CWM Recovery(yours might get corrupted)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339640
I'm using this only...
Then, try flashing Stock Based Custom Roms from here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26742913
Now, it should definitely work!!...
And if that doesn't work too, then flash stock firmware!! It's an ultimate remedy!!!

I have flashed the rom by creed and it work. The cyanogen rom is not working for me. :crying:
Why is this?
Bro!! If stock based custom roms work fine for U, then Cyanogenmod will also work. It sometime happens for the 1st time when u move from stock to Cyanogenmod.
So, you've a working phone with creeds(stock based) rom... U should TAKE ITS NANDROID BACKUP so that if some mishap happens in future, U can easily restore that.
If U know how to backup/restore, its fine... But if U don't, then do this:-
1. Switch off ur phone & enter in CWM Recovery.
2. From CWM main menu, goto "backup & restore".
3. Select "backup".
NOTE:- It's expected that you've sufficient storage space on ur sd card...
To restore an existing backup, selct "restore" under "backups & restore" menu and then select a desired back up file.
Now, you've a NANDROID BACKUP, you can give a try to various cyanogenmod roms (official or unofficial... depends on you) & if some wrong happens..., u know what to do... right???
For stock firmwares, visit www.samfirmware.com
U can also visit www.viotutorials.com for flashing processes along with video demonstration.:thumbup:

hi , being the total rom noob i have some questions
I finally found a ROM for my device , here in the forums.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2117085
Problem is I never succesfully applied a custom rom before.
I found this general guide for flashing custom ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1941028
It's helpfull ,but i don't quite get there.
1) first step of the topic says i need to download files from sammobile and flash em over my phone . I had a look and i think this step is required for the 'clean' install to start from?
2) replace the 3e_recovery file with the existing in System/Bin (download root browser lite from google play store). --> i don't quite get what i need to do here
3) install Rom-manager and install clockworkmod (choose samsung captivate).i find an app called clockworkmod , and find another one which needs to be installed once i start clockworkmod. I succeceed in downloading and selecting the captivate. When i click the 'flash recovery' button i get some error
4) if i reboot in recovery window and try to apply the updates it errors , but this is probably due to 5 mistakes i already did before.
Sorry for this noob question. If my phone would be a popular one i probably would get there with the default guides on youtube and stuff , but right now i don't quite figure it out
Thanks in advance to anyone trying to help me.
Yoshiwa
