Nice list. One thing that sometimes trips people up when installing Open Recovery using Dexter's apk: you must have the SD card mounted on the phone when you install Open Recovery (i.e. USB Charge Only mode). The easy way to make sure this is true is to unplug USB. Otherwise "install recovery" will report "success", but Open Recovery won't actually be installed.
TL;DR: unplug the phone before you press the "install recovery" button in step 3.

Hello All,
I'm knew to Android but since I got my XT720 I have been looking for ways to make it better since it doesn't have a lot of internal memory. I would also like to share how I installed it GalaxyXTv4.
I basically followed this Video
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943368
I download it the Galaxy from using this link
http://www.multiupload.com/VAIZTZJWMM
Finally I downloaded the whole root and openrecovery using this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946973
I also replace the content of the openrecovery folder with the extract of the GalxyXT, and the followed the Video.
The only difference is that I did reset everything cache, davlik, and factory defaults. When the phone rebooted, I was doing the initial setup and the phone rebooted itself twice, so I decided to remove the microSD card let the phone boot and then add the SD card back, I formated the card using the phone option and it has been working great (only a few hours since I installed the Galaxy).
The phone is performing better than when I was on 2.1 with apps2sd and definitely better than using 2.2.1 v4 BLUR make

I followed this guide and it worked, but when I powered off and powered on my phone just now.. it just stays at the white Motorola circle logo and then powers off. It's not bricked... is it?
Edit: Managed to get back into Openrecovery to wipe all 3 cache things. Now it's working okay.
After I format the SD card, I put to the phone, and it is not able to be read anymore. Please help
Re format it or buy a new card

P.S... also....I heared about "gapps"...what is it and do I need it at all? When is the official 2.3.x (gingerbread) coming from Tmobile? I just want GB on my g2x
make sure u flashed clockwork recovery via NVflasher to TRULY gain a mod recovery. I always put the roms I wanna flash onto my phone's memory and NOT the microSD card. maybe that'll help.
Looks like a corrupt download. Delete the zip and try downloading again.

Thnx for the reply. I tought I heard to have the ROMS in external memory card. Cuz, for example that's where clockworkmod backs up your nandroid.
Where do you place the ROMS(most roms have like 3 files in a compressed zip format.......i.e example.....the eagleblood ROM name is EagleBlood1.04.zip when u download it....inside the zip, theres two folders.....META-INF and "system".....a file called "boot.img" and another one called "installbusybox"...so where in the internal phone memory do u put the whole zip folder......?
put the WHOLE rom.zip on your memory. don't unzip anything.
+1 on the post above. redownload the rom and try flashing again.
after you flash the rom, flash gapps (this is the installer that includes market, gmail, etc.) You need it in order to get access to the market
Your steps should be as follows
1. Wipe Data
2. Wipe Dalvik cache
3. Flash Rom
4. Flash gapps
5. fix permissions
6. reboot
EDIT: and don't unzip anything. Place the WHOLE eaglesblood.zip file on your SD Card

They all say the same....I got them from the cyanogenmod website......even Eagleblood1.04 from here.
funny thing i noticed tho, after I tried installing a rom, but of course it fails, I connect the phone to USB, go to external memory card, try to open the ROM zip file, it wont open....says "X:\EagleBlood1.04.zip The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"
Maybe it gets damaged or currupted during the time its trying to flash the files to the phone???

Hi,
I have downloaded these files
Retail Indian - 5.5.1-EDEM-28-37-SEARET and Retail Indian - 5.5.1-EDEM-27-SEARET (Indian ROM with some cool features ) and I am dragging and dropping it in RSDLite and uncompressing it.
At the end of uncompressing it, I am getting this message "Please check input file. Either XML format is wrong or image files associated with it are missing."
After clicking OK, the path it displays is C:\IndianRetail-SEARET\system\etc\apns-conf.xml
Please advise. I want to change my rom from AT&T to Indian ROM.

Is that one of cogeary's International ROM's from here? If, so read the instructions in the original post - it is a cwm zip install. You must put it on your sdcard, boot into recovery, wipe data, and "install zip from sdcard"

If its a rom u shouldn't need to rsdlite it should be a restore or flash either cwm. Rsdlite is for fxz files. Correct me if I'm wrong

Little help needed
Thank you for your replies.
I understood few things. I use Sony Xperia S and the procedure is completely different than Motorola.
I want to install custom rom on my sister's phone.
Its an AT&T phone.
I want to install Victory Rom and the instructions he provided are below.
Installation Instructions - THIS IS A INSTALL ZIP (NOT BACKUP)
1.Put zip on sdcard
2.Back Up apps with Titanium backup
3.Make CWM backup
4.Wipe DATA(Factory Format),WIPE Cache and WIPE dalvik cache
5.flash zip
Now I am little confused here,
I will copy this file to SD Card and backup with Titanium
But my phone is not yet rooted and I dont have CWM
I understand CWM can be installed through ROM Manager and to perform Wipe Data should we do it from Settings in the phone or from CWM?
And the last step he mentioned to flash and need help how to do that with which software.
Sorry for so many questions, completely confused with Motorola.
yes its from the same place.
Is "install zip from sdcard" an app?

First of all, go HERE - and read up. You need to first root, then install the bootstrap, then you will be able to get into recovery mode (you don't need the ROM Manager app) - and then experiment with installing new roms/themes/mods.
First, I would recommend making a backup while in recovery mode. Also, possibly install CWM(Recovery) on Boot. Then you can go on to installing new roms... Information on all of this can be found by searching this forum. But, definitely ask if you're not sure of something before trying it. It's definitely a learning process.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot.
I rooted the phone and installed bootstrap and now i can see all the key words I have mentioned in my previous post.
hope I will be able to install custom rom without any problem.
Cud anybody help me with the istallation procedure for the following link..

Really confused here and wanna install ICS 4.0.4 for my phone :/
0. Make sure you're rooted
1. I think you also need s-off
1.5. Download the ROM file, and the Gapps file
2. Flash a custom recovery, such as ClockWorkMod. The easiest way is to download ROM Manager
3. Boot into that recovery. This can be done by using ROM Manager, or some device specific method (search it)
4. Make a backup (use the volume keys to navigate, select and back buttons are different for each phone, but should be easy to figure out)
5. Clear data/factory reset. OPTIONAL: under advanced clear dalvik cache
6. Install zip from SD card, navigate to the downloaded ROM, and select
7. Let it install, then install zip from SD card again, but this time select the google apps file
8. Reboot and enjoy! First bootup will always take longer than normal.
NOTE: since you do a factory reset, its a good idea to backup your apps with titanium backup, and various other things (like sms and mms) with mybackup root
This is the procedure for flashing any non-Sense (lol) ROM as well
Hope this helps!

I really doubt the Wildfire S to be powerful enough to manage running ICS smoothly.
Anyway, good luck!
Rooting the phone is such a pain in the ass wid the bootloader requiring as many as 14-15 software's installed b4 it can work properly and also crashes everytime!!

Before installing the Custom Rom you need to install the CWM Recovery using Uncle Tools, here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/canvas-doodle-2/development/cwm-cwm-recovery-version-5-5-40-canvas-t2435565
Then download the Custom Rom whichever you want, paste it in the SD Card, then boot into recovery
