What Happened!?

I followed step by step directions exactly rooted and verified my girlfriends phone. Flashed clockwork mod recovery wiped and installed a ROM from here. On reboot I get a message saying this software is not supported by Verizon! Wtf!? Please help, thank you.

Wiped IMEI?
Did you backup IMEI? If not, you're SOL in my knowledge.
Your GF is going to be SUPER MAD

Sounds like the bootloader is still locked. I think IMEI would cause data issues.

DONT USE EZ UNLOCK FROM THE MARKET! Use search!
Go get the ez unlock 1.2 apk from rootzwiki...

How do I at this point. I can't access recovery or anything.

EZ-unlock is an app. You run it while the device is booted.
Does the device boot up or it stops at that screen saying not supported.
If you can't boot, then you will want to ODIN back to stock. To get into Odin mode, pull your battery and put back in and then I believe it is volume up and power button, You will need to get the stock Rom to run in Odin. You can probably find this in the dev section.
If you can boot into the Rom, then you should not have to Odin.

Try to flash your phone back to stock with ODIN thats what I did and worked fine.

No Download(Odin) mode is actually volume down+home+power. At the warning screen, tap volume up

Yeah, I just looked at the tutorial and am gonna jump on the PC and get it going. Thank you guys again. Really appreciate it.

You can dd The unlocked aboot Using adb also and would probably be the fastest way to fix.its not the imei. The info is in the unlock bootloader thread

What's wrong with ez-unlock from the market? That's what I used to unlock my bootloader.
Edit: nvm, I just read the description for the new version. I used it before the G7 update

since the VZW update i believe this app is ineffective.
the 1.2 version is the one that works currently, as provided.

It is not actually downloading anything unless you are actually doing something. It says that be default.

Looks like I'm wasn't the only one. There's a guide for fixing soft brick using Odin.
Root.
Unlock.
Flash recovery.
Backup.
I lost all data on the storage after that incident but I learned my lesson. Good luck.

Yeah, I went on the tutorial and I'm even having issues there. When I'm in Odin the stock rom is not being recognized. Even in the alternate method, the bootloader file is not recognized either. I can only get one of the bootloader files to be recognized and when I run it, it fails! Ugh!

[Q] super cid issue/ adb issue

i was going to s-off the this morning and flash illusion 2.0 but instead i am beating my head off the keyboard. i have been reading all day. i have like 12 tabs open and my main problem is that adb isn't working. not sure what i'm doing wrong. i need to get to supercid. instructions seem easy enough. i go to command prompt, change my directory, everything good here just as usual. when i type "adb shell" i get "error: device offline" don't know what i'm doing wrong. thanks in advance.

I had the same problem. First make sure ADB debugging in advanced options is checked. Next try booting into fastboot. If your on stock try putting it into charge only mode. Try the multiple different ways

i'm on a custom rom. where is adb debugging? advanced options in the phone or on computer? really appreciate the response.

Check these things right here in the picture. Have USB debugging enabled and select root access and choose apps and adb

It's usb debugging that you need to check. You mentioned that you are on a custom rom ... Is it sense based or aosp? I was still on the stock ics rom when I changed to super cid. Everything went just fine, although I didn't proceed to do Facepalm s-off immediately. I did flash cm10, and came back to finish s-off a couple of weeks later. Nearly drove myself crazy, until I realized it works best when done on a sense rom. Flashed a stock rooted rom, and it literally took about 10 minutes to finish s-off. Restored my cm10 backup, and all is well.

I really appreciate the info. I'm on bb8, which isn't sense. I have USB debugging on. Should I be on a stock rpm to get supercid or just for s-off? My problem is adb won't my phone.

what do you mean by tried putting it into fast boot? & by that i mean i thought it had to be in fastboot. also, i believe i have sdk set up but that's maybe where i'm going wrong. in cmd i actually got it to say "daemon started successfully" which it's suppose to, but then it said "error: device not found" not sure what i'm doing wrong.

Fast boot is when you boot into boot loader using power + volume down. Once you get to boot loader there's an option for fast boot use you power button to select it

yes, i'm not that familiar with it, but i did install it. & it just won't read my device.

Neither was I. Their is one more thing I wanna try. Download a galaxy nexus toolkit. And tell use it to install ADV drivers onto your computer

i serched the android sdk guide and it looks like i have everything in order. i will dl the gn toolkit. also, i've heard that some things work better with a sense rom. i did switch to trickdroid, which has wifi issues and will not be a daily driver, but i can't remember if it was with scid or s-off or something else.

if the gn toolkit doesn't work i'll have to give that a try. i'm tmobile us. which is the correct ruu i should flash if i want to try that? i read about don't get the ota updates. your help is greatly appreciated.
i fired up the toolkit and it says there is an update. but it wants version. i'll put a gsm version but should i put 4.2.2 or 4.1.2 or something different?

Rooting possible with a command terminal?

Just got my nexus 5. Went to get my laptop only to find out its been stolen. Is there a way to root using the command terminal in say jumpy apps?
I'd hate to have to buy a Laptop just to root this phone. The root browser seems to allow access to all the relevant files. Anyone tried this?

Afaik, you'll need a pc to unlock the bootloader. From there I suppose you could do the rest on the phone using dd commands to get a recovery on. But since you'll need the pc anyway you might as well use it to get the recovery on.

How do you go to get your laptop to find out its stolen? Lol

Why don't you just borrow someone's pc or go to a internet cafe?

You could always try a library. All you need to do is download fastboot, run "fastboot oem unlock" and reboot. You can then do the rest on your phone. It shouldn't take you longer than 10 minutes.

ADB and Fastboot go hand and hand from my knowledge. Even a slim non full version SDK still has ADB .

What do you mean "hand in hand"?
They're both command line platform tools offered in the android SDK but thats about all they have in common. One is a minimalistic "linux shell" for interacting with the android kernel (adb) where as the other is a tool that manages the fastboot functions of the bootloader.

Correct.
You will need to have USB drivers, of course to use fastboot, which are often referred to as "adb drivers" but not the adb binary/exe itself

Last Internet cafe closes here and pale think rooting will damage their LT! The ones I asked.
I only posted this out of desperation. Library computers are locked up so can't accept drivers.
I've been rooting since the early days and I did a Samsung g2 without a computer. The boot was open. I just put the su, etc on the card and rooted it. As it was pre owned not sure if it had been unlocked or was like that from new. I've come from the nexus 4 mainly because of 4g.

Do you have another device that supports USB OTG? It can do everything the laptop can with ADB and fastboot. The ADB binary is shipped with android, you'll just need the ARM fastboot binary.

Unroot

I'm RMA my nexus so I tried to flash stock thru wugfresh kit but it gets stuck and won't do it . so I remember I did a back up as soon as I rooted my phone so I restored that . I unrooted thru the superuser app its self , I went thru advance options on the root kit and flashed stock recovery and then relocked my phone.
My question is if that's enough to send it back? Will they be able to tell I rooted ? After I relocked it it said it reset the flag as well so I guess that's good .
The reason I use tool kits because its easier and I'm nervous to try it without a tool kit.

If you're on stock rom, kernel, recovery with a locked bootloader and "false" tamper flag, you're good to go!
Can't help you out with the toolkit problem as I don't use them and I feel it does more bad then good! :silly: You yourself aren't able to make out what part went wrong with wug's toolkit whereas if you have downloaded the stock factory images and did it manually, we could help you out with the error on that particular step!

Yes, you can but make sure you don't restore the EFS.. If you do. Then your new phone is SCREWED! That's why I never recommend anyone restoring backups of different phones!

Yes, everything looks peachy!
If you're not sure whether the tamper flag is reset or not.. Head over to bootloader and use this command : fastboot oem device-info
If the tamper flag is set to "true" then you haven't reset it correctly. If it's "false" then it's all good!
BTW, why are you RMA'ing the device?

Hey bro in the near future try not to use tookits for toying around for with these phones!! "Nexus" It's a lot easier to figure things out the fastboot way and cmds. As the other user stated they do more harm than good:silly: Good luck with ur RMA:good:

Trust me when you learn this way it's a lot fun.. And in the process you come to know a lot about your phone:good: It's fun flashing things! But you need to know what your flashing and what it's doing on your phone..

So I tried to factory soft reset but for some reason it wouldn't , I tried hard resetting and it just froze , now its just I'm a bootloop , I'm able yo get in to boot loader but since my device is locked already can I still reflash stock? I tried unlocking boot loader but the computer won't recognize the phone , its saying o need to check developers option which I can't .. Any help?

Just download the factory image and unpack the bootloader image. If it re-locks, which it shouldn't, but if it does, just unlock it again as you did when you first unlocked it.
To flash the image, use command prompt (Windows) and cd into the folder that the image is in, then do "fastboot flash bootloader bootloader_file_name.IMG"

I no longer have a PC. My 8yo daughter did a fantastic job of frying it last Wednesday, when she came running in the room with a very full glass of water.........

Plz learn how to flash it in fastboot.. Its so easy..

Problem is that I don't think anyone has made a flashable version because flashing with fastboot is really easy...

Ummmm....please learn how to read, and don't troll my thread. It is wholly unappreciated, and extremely unacceptable....

I would also be interested in this. I am fully aware and capable of using fastboot and adb commands, however I travel for a living and I only have my phone and tablet with me, so a no computer solution would be nice for some people.

Flashify can flash .IMG files. Pretty sure it doesn't do bootloaders though.

Yeah, figured it couldn't flash a BL, not sure it can be done as it needs to go Into boot loader mode over recovery. Recovery has it's own kernel to boot up, as for boot loader I think it's a different method that boots into that particular option. Saying that, I could be wrong, never really had any need to look into it in all honesty.

If you absolutely need the update bootloader, you could try flashing the image in recovery, but I feel like that will brick your device.

I would be interested in this as well.

What exactly is the point/advantage of having the latest boot loader? I'm on lollipop 5.0 rooted, Franco kernel, and latest radio running the same unlocked boot loader that came with the phone. Would it benefit me in anyway to fastboot flash the latest boot loader?

You, cant flash anything without custom recovery or root, and most importantly the USB and Computer. Anyways, to flash bootloader HHZ12D, which is the newest one you have to download the factory image from the Google Dev website, which is 556mb, once you extract it the file will be there named bootloader-hammerhead-hhz12d

Useless.
Back on topic, forget about updating bootloader through a recovery or flashify. When you get access to a PC, then update the bootloader.

all i know, is its needed to flash CM12 unofficial at this point, so there's one reason

I know you can flash a .img directly in TWRP, but I haven't tried for the bootloader.
Also, flashing CM will usually flash the bootloader + radio and maybe even the recovery anyways?
