I've bought european Motorola XOOM 32GB 3 honeycomb 3 .2It's my first android device.
I want to root it. I've read universal XOOM root guide. Is there a way to root my XOOM without flashing CWM recovery? If i will flash cwm recovery will i get update to ICS? I've heard that custom recovery may be a problem if i want to install OTA updates, is it true? I really need to root but i don't want to resign of easy installing official updates.
Thanks for help!
Hi all,
I own a Motorola Defy+ GB 2.3.6. Recently (sometime in April '12) got a official update from Motorola. I want to root my device, tried many tools available in this forum like Superoneclick, DoomLord, etc.. But these tools were not able to root my device. I read many posts mentioning successful rooting of Defy+ DFP-231 BL7.
When I checked my device BL version, it showed V9.10 (in the boot menu). I am wanted to know if I could be able to root my device.!
Since I am not able to root my device, I was thinking to flash the stock sbf with a rooted SBF using this method.
I want to know the risks involved in this method. If I flash a custom ROM without taking a backup of the stock ROM (I'm not able to use nandroid woithout root privileges), and something goes wrong, will I be able to restore my device to previous state (stock ROM) ?
Any answers/suggestions are appreciated..
Thanks..!

I just want clearify before I attempt root as it seems a bit different than when I did my phone. I need to root the device, then I can unlock the bootloader, then I can flash roms? So unlocking and rooting are not the same?
No, you need to unlock the bootloader first on a Xoom, otherwise you won't be able to flash anything (including the root.) Note that the unlock will wipe all the data off your Xoom, so be sure to back as much up as you can.
Let's not forget that rooting and unlocking the bootloader will void your warranty.
If I follow the second link (unlock bootloader for WiFi) then I can use lordAIOtool to root before flashing a ROM? Is there a reason to root if i can unlock the bootloader and load a ROM VIA the second link provided? Also what recovery does everyone recommend? I know of CWM from my phone, is the eos recovery any better or are they the same?

I have a Razr M on 98.18.94.XT907. Running Jellybean 4.1.2. I have rooted it but from what I have read the bootloader cannot be unlocked.
I am new to droids so if I use the terminology wrong forgive me. From what I have read (most forum posts are 3 months old though) I can flash a custom ROM on this device without unlocking the bootloader but it has to be a custom build used with safestrap. The problem is I am not too sure how to do this and I have not found a live link to such a file or tutorial. If anyone can give me some instruction on how to install custom roms on locked boot loaders and which one to use for my phone I would appreciate it a lot.
Hey guys.
I've got a Moto Maxx XT1225 (similar to Verizon's Droid Turbo).
The bootloader is unlockable, but I was wondering if it's possible to get root since there's no custom recovery for it yet.
If yes, how?
Usually I unlock the bootloader, then install a custom recovery and flash supersu with it.
If there's no custom recovery, I have no idea what to do.
