Im trying to flash a custom rom in my xperia j.
as im a full NEWBIE, i took help of forums on xda.
0. I have flashtool and Android SDK.
1. I downloaded ROM ( X fusion)
2. I downloaded cm10 and gapps.
3. My mobile is already rooted and i unlocked its bootloader.
4. I installed CWM from both mobile and pc.
5. My problem : When i power off and press power + volume up, it wont go in recovery and boots normally.
My phone is stock jellybean.
Well im a real beginner in these things so i wanted to do it to learn it but i need help.
If you need other details, ask me but i really need help.
Try when you see Sony logo rapidly press volume down. How I do it:
Press power button until it vibrates (release power buton)
Rapidly press volume down till it go in CWM.
Good Luck!

No worries @AdarshJKC98 It's all about Trial & Error, Here's how i install & Use CWM
Ensure Unknown Sources is enabled & Ensure Debugging is also Enabled, You must be rooted, Once you've made sure all of that go ahead and turn your device off, or just take your battery out, Place the USB Sync cable into your PC and go ahead and Boot up Flashtool,Once done so place the Micro USB end into your device and Hold Volume +, If done so correctly a Blue LED will light up, Click the thunderbolt icon on flashtool and select 'Fastboot Mode' And then click on 'Select Kernal To Flash' once done so find the Boot.img i have given you (Link provided below) Once the kernal has been flashed unplug the micro usb cable and go ahead and power on your device
How do i open up CWM on my device
It's simple once you have powered on your device a Purple LED on the Illumination bar Should illuminate keep pressing Volume + or Volume - Either should do the trick, the LED Should then light up Blue, Once done go ahead and use the steps provided to flash your ROM

Hope this helped ;3
Thnx so much dude, it works
Another small problem !
I entered recovery mode, i wiped cache and tried to install cm10, but it said installation aborted.
So i installed X Fusion directly and rebooted my phone.
But now it lights up, give the purple light which turns off after some time and remains like this.
what to do ?

Dear all,
If you haven't updated it, don't do it.
My situation now is:
1. It stucks at the red dual core logo; (I think it shouldn't be called a boot loop)
2. It can't be powered down; (even I press and hold the power button forever!)
3. If I reboot it, I can still press the -vol button to choose between modes, but there are one 3: NvFlash; RSD; and fastboot. No "android recovery" option.
As of now, I put it into Nvflash mode so that the screen will not keep shining with the red logo.
May anyone suggest how I could unbrick it, or the worst case, reinstall everthing to stock?
Thanks very much for your help!

If you lost recovery then you need to ADB into the unit to force it into recovery (if you don't know what I'm talking about get a friend who does).
In either case you will need to have the developer tools installed on a computer and connect via USB to be able to flash Stock Rom via fastboot.

Dear Guys,
Thanks you for your opinions.
1. I would like to flash back to 203. Would any one care to give me some step by step guides how to do that, given my situation, being stucked at the start up and couldn't go into recovery?
2. If I have a friend who is so technically superb, I wouldn't have to come up here to ask for help. As I always think here is where the genius gather.
Looking forward to a solution. Thanks again for all of you who cares.

Try the power + vol up +vol down reboot... this should get you to a bootloader screen, from there you can select recovery and that should allow you to re-install the 203 nightly. BTW... the problem was noted in the developer forum soon after the 204/205 file were posted.
ADVICE:: you might want to review any files in the forum before jumping on any upgrade.
if the above doesn't work then try -
Re-install your recovery - using the same steps that originally were used to root and install a recovery.
You may have to use ADB to push the files out to the device. (do a search for adb in this forum, or perhaps root kit)
With this it should be simple to recover.
I was fortunate that I was able to return to recovery and install 203 with no issues other than a anxious moments wondering what I did wrong
hope this helps
Hello everyone,
Yesterday i decided to root my xperia tipo, and i did that, and I also did CWM recovery and right after, i tried to install a new ROM. I found some "Xperia Z Fire Series 5 XP [Tipo]" rom and followed the instructions from yt....backed up, wiped everything, wiped cach, wiped the cache in advanced ( cant remember the name ) and than I installed the rom from phone sd memory... it showed as if succesfully installed. Finally, the video guy says that i should reboot the device (the first option in boot window) and to wait as long as it takes. So I did...I rebooted it and it just turned off...i left it whole night, hoping it will boot up eventually, but it didn't...After I realised it wont, i tried to turn it on, but when i hold the power button, it's just vibrating every few seconds for half a sec as if it will turn on, but it doesn't. The light doesn't turn on, nothing shows up on screen....when i push the volume down and power button at the same time, along with vibrating, the led light goes green every few seconds. When i put the charger in, it doesn't do anything. Only diffrence is that when i put it on the charger and than press volume down and power button, the led light turns green and it doesnt turn off untill i unplugg it. Is this what they meant when they said "bricked phone"? Thank you in advance, any advice is appreciated!

Reflash the stock FTF.
And when you install the ROM next time, try installing the zip first, and then wiping data/ cache. That's how I installed CM10.

Yeah via Flashtool.
As far as I know, custom ROMs do require an unlocked bootloader (atleast on xperia e)
, but you don't need to unlock it to flash the stock FTF.

1.) Remove and reinsert the battery
2.) Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN, HOME and POWER buttons at the same time
3.) When (if) the phone stops vibrating, release the POWER button and see if You enter "DOWNLOAD" mode disclaimer, and if You do, press VOLUME UP to enter DOWNLOAD mode.
4.) If You successfully entered DOWNLOAD mode, use this tutorial (skip steps 5 to 8) to flash the stock ROM for Your phone.

Nope it's not at all necessary, anything will work. But you might use the one of your country for some preferences like language settings etc.

Dear Members,
I was trying to update my Xperia Ion from Jelly Bean to CM11 KitKat. I was following videos on youtube that how to do it. I did unlock my phone through sony standard procedure. after that, according to videos, I open Sony Flashtool and I clicked Flash boot Mode. Then I connected phone through Volume Up + insert USB cable. Then I have clicked Kernel to flash and have flashed .img file from my CM11 Rom folder.
And then problem start.... Oppppsssssss since last night struggling with this. After kernel to flash (.img), I have disconnected phone from Laptop and try to enter flash mode by pressing Volume Down + power. Phone does not go any where except a little vibration one time, but there is no Sony Icon, no screen on off. Just when I connect USB, green led is there and stays until it remain connected to laptop.
Moreover, If I press and hold Volume Up+Volume down + Power, it vibrate one time and then after few seconds, it vibrates for three time. And that is all....... Please Help me to fix.....
I shall be very thankful to you.
Regards,
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. Flashing the wrong kernel for your device can brick it. I would suggest you try to return the device to stock. That also may not work though. See this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752345 if you have questions you can try asking in that thread.

Hi Guys,
So the story is that I was updating my Xperia Z3 (details below) from TWRP 2.8.6 to 'twrp-3.0.2-0-yuga' using the instructions androidnewsbox.com/2016/02/08/how-to-install-and-update-to-twrp-3-0-0 and after flashing the new TWRP the phone can no longer enter recovery mode and I get no other booting/loading screens.
I had 100% battery when I started the process.
It does still do the little vibrate thing when I hold down the power button but nothing happens after that.
When I plug it into the PC the LED flashes red, then green then goes off.
Reading the instructions twrp.me/devices/sonyxperiaz.html I did use the 'install' function not the 'recovery' function. Is that likely to be the mistake I made? If so is there any way to recover?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Use flashtool to reflash a new system image (ftf). You're using stock so probably your kernel doesn't support FOTA-Kernel partition flashing.
Great to hear back from someone.
Unfortunately I don't think that I can just flash a new ftf using flashtool as I cant get into fastboot mode.
I have been working through the following online tutorial
engineerthink.com/blog/2015/11/how-to-unbrick-hard-bricked-android-phone/
I have installed the USB drivers on my PC from here
androidmtk.com/download-sony-xperia-usb-driver
And i can get the ftf file from here (mine is 1288-6090)
xpericheck.com/device/D6653
Unfortunately I am unable to put the phone into fastboot mode by holding down the power and down buttons. Nothing happens.
The tutorial above also tells me "If phone not going to Fastboot mode than connect it to PC by USB. Hold Volume Up and Power button until you get company logo or backlight."
This also does nothing and I get no backlight or company logo.
FYI if it helps about a year ago I rooted my phone using a tutorial very similar to this
oneandroid.gs/root-xperia-z3/
I will keep working on the problem and post any updates as they come up.

First hard shut down your phone by using combo, after that, download the ftf for your phone (1288-6090 is the customization, what you need is an ftf that its compatible with your phone model, download flash tools, install the drivers that come with it, and using xperifirm (Included in flashtools) you download the firmware) After you have all settled up, proceed to flash your phone, select firmware and then it'll ask you to connect your phone in flash mode not fastboot mode, you can do that by pressing vol up + power (press them and while pressing them connect the usb to the pc). Then the flashing process will start. You can find many tutorials around here in xda. Do not use external tutorials, go find stuff here. It's way more reliable as many are made just for your phone.
Hi and thanks again.
This gives me plenty to learn about and go forward with thanks heaps.

Yes that one, If you press it enough (about 5-10 secs) the phone will shutdown and It wont try to restart. This is what you need first.

No, only when connecting the phone to start flashing the system software, you will see a green light in the notification led that will then shut off and flashing process will start.

This is a great almost-up-to-date guide http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/1...peria-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool/
XperiFirm is included in flashtools now so you don't have to download it, but to get your firmware you have to do the same steps but opening xperifirm from inside flashtool.
You can download flashtool here http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
Seems to be a success!
Thanks heaps for all your great assistance.

Hi H3llcat,
Jumping through some hoops with the D6653 myself... did you get it to boot up? Not sure how far you went with it, if still an issue charge it back up and let's try a couple of things; I realize it'll just be sitting there all dumb and dark like, but do it anyway. So let us know.
