We need more data. Do you have a screenshot of what the signal is doing? Is it only in certain areas? Is it showing connected just not sending data? What you could try doing is if it looks like it should be connected (says H on the signal bars), try downloading a terminal app and pinging 8.8.8.8 and if it responds try ping google.com and see if it looks up an IP correctly.

Hi, bars are all full including 'H' indicating 3g. If it was a 3g problem why does it work on the google search widget but not the chrome ( or any other apps eg. Facebook or WhatsApp)

Wifi question

If i turn on wifi and am connected to my router, does it automatically stop the data plan from running? In other words, when I go on websites or use the facebook ap, is it using my wifi instead of my data plan?
Yep. You can confirm it by noticing that the arrows under «3G» aren't lit.

Thanks. I do notice that the 3G went away. So will I be able to download apps through the android market using the wifi too? This whole limited 2g data plan has gotten me scared hahah. But thanks for the quick reply.

[Q] Android sucking up my data, please help!

So I recently got my first contract, T-Mobile, 1000MB internet, 90 call minutes and 2500 texts, so in the first two days I already used up 100 of 1000MB, 35MB by me and the rest by Android (see screenshot), is there anything I can do about it? Please let me know.
Edit: screenshot didn't upload.

When u don't need data turn it off. Also turn off sync with your accounts. U can also set a limit on how much data u use in settings

Wifi will not accumulate any data. Well it will but any data used over wifi will not go towards the 1000mb limit u have. So if ur on wifi turn data off just to be safe.
Hope that helps!

Go to settings. Then go to data usage.
Then click on the top app. Then scroll down to the bottom. Then check the box that says restrict background data. Do this for any apps using data a lot.

Try using a 3G on/off widget (so you can toggle 3G easily) and connecting to wifi when available. Also, turn off syncing for apps, and GPS.

I called T-Mobile, I should ignore what Android tells me, I don't have to pay for Twitter, Facebook and Whatsapp and background data doesn't count either.

WiFi broke after Flatline NVflash

Tablet can't seem to connect to wifi after doing the Flatline NVflash. Anyone has this issue? When nvflash was done, I reflashed TF700_10.6.1.14.10_WW_Boot_TWRP_2610 running on CROMi-X 5.0.3. Booted up to find out that wifi is not connecting. I even tried factory reset and restore my previous backup but still no luck. Don't know what else to do besides a fresh install of cromi, which I'm really trying to avoid.
I know that Flatline *uses* WiFi, but I see no reason how it could break it, at least across a reboot.
Reboot your tablet and post the output of lsmod and dmesg.
ok here's what came up after reboot

The log shows that the driver is loaded correctly, but WiFi is not turned on. What happens when you try to turn it on in Settings?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 4
Or maybe airplane mode? if not it must be something on the router side.
Its on in settings but says "saved, secured with wpa/wpa2" with a blank wifi icon on status bar. Also nothing happens when I click connect. Airplane mode is off too

by blank you mean gray? id say its an issue with your network, try forgetting the connection and rescanning.

Well the wifi module is loading ok and wifi is scanning so there isn't an issue with the tablet. try tethering your EVOs connection to the tablet and see if it connects
Yes blank as in just an outline of the wifi icon, not greyed or color filled if it was connected with full reception
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Forgetting connection/scan and reconnecting many times already with same results. Wifi direct on tab doesn't pick up my EVO but my EVO is able to pick up tab n connected successfully. I'm going to try uninstalling notification toggle bc that's the only thing on my tab from what I can tell that has access to network settings
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well just my luck....tried everything possible relating with wifi but still no connections. Guess I'll have to format sd and do a fresh install of cromi. Btw I'm on d2sd and if I were to wipe internal, does that delete the androidroot nvflash folder sitting in the internal memory?

Really I thought it might be the case I hop so , is there a way of testing ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Well, you could check your speeds and see if they line up with what you expect for HSPA+.
The most definite way is to start a file downloading (one that will take a few seconds) then go to Settings -> About Phone -> Status and look at "Mobile Network Type." HSPA+ only kicks in when you're actually transferring data, hence needing to set up the download.

Just do speed tests I guess. See what others are getting. Compare?
This app will tell you all about your connection

You may see it fluctuate and go to 2g when data isn't being transmitted.
Thanks very much your right the apps says h+ .

This is perfectly fine. If your phone is connected to the WiFi Router but cannot access the internet you shall see the [ WiFi Signal + ! ] and you phone will automatically use your Mobile Internet connection [ LTE, H+, H, 3G, E ]. As soon as your phone can reach the internet over WiFi, it will automatically disable Mobile Data and switch to WiFi. The ! mark will disappear. It ensures that the phone is always connected to the internet (if available).
This feature was not in there in KitKat and people would miss mails and notifications when their WiFi router's internet connection failed.

my pleasure. nothing wrong in asking what you don't know
This is really dumb design decision. The average person is going to think something is broken on their phone every time they have mobile data/wifi disabled.
Dumb design, can't agree no more. I am wondering if my cellphone has issues when I saw the exclamation mark on both wifi and mobile network. Is there any way to disable the mark?
! mark = No Internet Access
As said earlier by others in this post, Exclamatory mark plus cell signal means u r not connected to internet via cellular data.
Exclamatory mark plus wifi signal means u r not connected to internet via wifi.
One good thing i noticed is when i m on wifi and while i m signing in to provider's page, cellular data is still on and i am getting whats app and mails as well till wifi is connected to internet. Its kind of useful.
Odd.... I see "!" go away as soon as wifi connects to my router. But if I turn off wifi, my cell "!" is still there and doesn't connect to data. Have a 3 bar signal (can make calls, "PTEL" shows up on cell icon, my provider), but no data (I assume the "!" goes out when data connects). I tried opening a web page but no data. This just started since I flashed L. Flashed "L" radio, no help. Suggestions?
This is really strange. I have a perfectly working WiFi at home, and I regularly download app updates and go through various internet things on my Nexus 5 on Lollipop. However, through out the day, I see the "!" mark on my WiFi icon. It absolutely does not go.
After updating to Lollipop, I had to switch my mobile data off, (Only at home) because of this stupid feature. I had a few app updates (close to 300- 400 MB) and because of the "!" sign, it went on directly to my cellular network and started to download from there. Even though the WiFi was working perfectly fine without any issues on my tab and pc and also on the phone.
Secondly, the cellular network also shows the "!" icon. I stopped the wifi and tried surfing using the cellular network and I was able to surf the net, and through out the whole test, the "!" was still there.
Thirdly, The strangest part is that this happens across the city. I stay in Bangalore, India and across the city I have noticed the "!" mark in my cellular network.
This has also made an impact on my battery.
Any help would be appreciated.
Yep, seems like whatever android is doing to decide if it has an internet connection, it does not work well.
I'm acessing the forum and posting this from my OTA-upgraded Lollipop Nexus 5 while my wifi icon on the status bar has a "!", and I'm not using cellular data.
I suppose if I didn't have my cellular data disabled, it would be trying to use it, as it thinks I can't get to the internet via wifi.
I hate when we have to put up with bugs and bloat introduced by software trying to do nothing more useful than to be "smart" and nicer to lusers. I miss my Symbian.
Windows does something just like this, and randomly shows a "limited connection" warning on the system tray. Some lusers IM me to complain:
- "my" internet is not working...
- yeah? How did you get to this conclusion? Because "mine" is.
- because windows says my internet connection is limited
- hmm... have you actually TRIED to use the connection?
- uhh... ok.
Exclamation point on mobile signal strength icon
Hi,
I tested my Nexus 5 after reading this forum and when I enabled my Wi-Fi, the exclamation point disappeared from the mobile signal strength. During a 2nd test, the Wi-Fi did not activate properly right away and I had an exclamation point on both the mobile icon and the Wi-Fi icon. If I enabled my data plan while the Wi-Fi was disabled, the exclamation point turned off on the mobile icon.
--new OS feature...
