Shield Tablet HDMI lag - Shield Q&A

I picked up the Shield Tablet and I'm trying to run Super Mario Brothers ROM through RetroArch. The display is perfect, but when connected to HDMI through both console mode and mirror mode, I have some latency going to the TV. It feels like everything is shown half a second after it happens, which is a big deal for a game. I am using the same HDMI cable and connector that can hook up to my computer and play the same ROM with no lag, so I don't believe it's the cable or the TV.
Is anybody using any kind of emulator on the nvidia shield tablet over HDMI without lag?

I haven't had any issues using PPSSPP emulator hooked up to my TV in console mode. I do notice sometimes the audio isn't sync'ed but changing the setting in the PPSSPP emulator - audio latency to high solved the issue when connecting to TV. so I would believe it could just be some settings you gotta tweak about with to get it perfect.
I would try running something else to narrow the issue down, as it might just be that emulator your using on the shield.

No problems here either, was playing God of War and Tekken Dark Resurrection and Wipeout Pure to my HDTV via the Shield the other night without lag issues.

Make sure you turn off any features of your TV that might cause this. I know that my TV has a video "smoothing" feature that will add in additional frames to make video smoother but it makes video games almost unplayable with any console that I've tried because of the delay that is has. See if your TV has a video game mode.

HDMI performance

I found that the framerate drops when i connect my phone to TV via HDMI. I have tested with different videoplayers and the fpse emulator and they all slow down. I have also tested with the fps2d app and it shows that the framerate decreases. Does anyone know a solution to fix this or is anyone having the same problems?
the frame rate will likely be matching your tv.
that said, totally wouldnt be surprised if the jump from 800x480 to 1080p created some slowdown.

[Q] HDMI to computer monitor

So I spent some time searching and looking around on the forums and couldn't seem to find an answer (for starters, everything was about TVs), so here we go:
I am trying to hook my TF up to a 1080p capable 25" computer monitor via HDMI. The picture shows up, but it seems to be a much lower resolution just blown up to fit the 1920x1080 size (possible the native 1280x800). I notice that when the TF switches to HDMI mode, a small black bar appears along the bottom, which I presume auto-corrects it to 1280x720 for 720p output. However, while playing GTA III, I notice that on the computer monitor, everything looks quite pixelated, much worse than an actual 720p signal. I also tested watching a TV episode I have stored on a microSD card using MX Video Player and the video resolution on the computer monitor was just as bad as GTA III.
Is there any way to get the TF to output an actual 720p signal (or even a 1080p signal if possible)?
Bump
Nobody's tried connecting to a computer monitor? I don't have an HD TV to test with

[Q] HDMI heartbreaks

Okay, when I plug my tablet into my cheapo Insignia TV via HMDI I get tablet on TV, yay! Navigate to play a video I downloaded via Google Play, yay it's there. Press play, yes there's volume and a pic...wait where'd the picture go!? Both tablet and TV go black screen while the TV plays the volume. Sup wit dat? I tried HDMI 1 + 2 ports into the TV. Dunno what to do but I think my family would appreciate Despicable Me, and other flicks, more on 42" instead of 10" . Help!
I believe this is an issue with Goggle Play video and it does not do HDMI out.
Seems to work fine for me outputting to a Sony 40" TV with a free episode I got of Shaun the Sheep. Not sure if there might be a difference in DRM though.
Also, I'm running KatKiss 4.3 on mine. Are you on stock? I have seen some mention of this issue being fixed on certain ROMs. frederuco do you know if Timduru may have this fix in KatKiss?

[Q] Shield compatible gamepads, keyboards and mouse?

Hi,
I have been lurking around the interwebz to find a cheap compatible shield gamepad which works over bluetooth. So far i came across Nyko Playpad pro and Moga Pro. The main issue here is that none of the above is available in my country. So far the gamepads i have tried are below;
PS3 Sixaxis (USB, Bluetooth with Sixaxis app)
Works fine over USB, however while using over bluetooth, the dpad doesn't function. If anyone has a solution to this, this will be the best option.
Xbox 360 Controller (USB)
Works fine as it should.
Does the wireless controller works fine with receiver connected to shield with OTG cable? I read somewhere that is also causes the same type of DPAD symptoms.
Does regular wireless keyboard/mouse combos which comes with thr own usb wireless adapter will work with the shield or do i need to buy a bluetooth only device?
Does the Plugable USB to ethernet adapter is a must for full hd streaming? If yes, does every game streams in FHD or just the supported ones? Or it is just upscaled 720p? I installed Bioshock Infinite to test over wifi (Dual Band N600) and i noticed improvements in detailing of the game and graphics if i set the game resolution from 720p to 1080p? Is thr anyway to stream FHD over wifi ?
Of all your questions, I can only confirm that wireless Keyboard/Mouse works. I'm using a logitech combo that uses those small usb receivers. The Nyko playpad pro 2 is fully compatible according to Nvidia. Don't know about the others, i've read from others that Moga and Madcatz work. I use my Dalshock 3 with sixaxis app, but i didn't try the d-pad. i'll try it out and report back if it works for me.
The DPAD is like mirroring the left analog stick. Please test the issue with native games and gamestream also and thanks for reporting the functionality of keyboard/mouse combo.

No problem. and sorry for not responding sooner, didn't saw the notification e-mail. Anyways, i tested my Dualshock 3 and yes my D-pad works well but only plugged in, while over bluetooth it seems to mirror the left stick.

Is there a way to output HDMI to my phone, or to stream from a TV to my phone?

Hey everyone. I see tons of options for streaming the display from my phone to my tv, but what about the other way around?
In my situation, I am trying to get remote play working for my PS4 to my android phone, but am encountering issues getting a Dualshock 4 controller to work properly with my phone.
If I can't get this resolved, another option would be to get a playstation TV and attach it to my bedroom tv, but it's tiny, and also about 20 feet away from the bed. Not a great option for playing games. However, if I could use the PSTV and output to my phone, that would be awesome.
Is there something that either can clone the display/sound output of a TV, or even better, something that would allow my phone to directly act as a receiver of an HDMI signal from the PSTV?
Trying to google for options leaves me empty handed because most people are concerned with outputting their phone's display to their television, and I want to go in the opposite direction.
I have the very same question
I'm curious as to why I wouldn't 've able to directly stream what is on my tv to my phone. The PS3 has a controller that works through walls from 20+ ft away, all I want to do is be able to watch through my phone when I'm outside/ in another room.
I find it mind blowing that there isn't a single answer on Google after searching for hours.
