I hate HTC, if they are too incompetent to fit a 3.5mm hole in the phone atleast include a adapter.
but no.. so instead I had to wait 2 weeks for this one before I could use my phone:
http://www.morpethmobiles.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=/36/_SD_MiniUSB-3.5mma
But after a week it broke, only one channel audio but it still worked if you fiddled with it so that it's only half inserted, but then it completely stopped working (so that you just can't listen to anything while walking).
So then I changed it on warranty to a new cable and now the exact same scenario has happened.
Has this happened to anyone else and do you have any recommendation?

HTC didn't include an adapter? My Fuze had one. Thank you AT&T! The old one I had for my Tilt works fine.
My recommendation is buy the official one and not some cheapy like that one.
Here is the real deal: http://store.wmexperts.com/htc-multifunction-audio-adapter/11A176A4401.htm
I have this one:
http://shop.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=02373&dept_id=001&cat_id=0413
bought it at ebay for 3€ (2€ transport ) and I think it's the best choice for headphones, because there is no chance to break something in it while putting it into pocket etc... (omg my english... )

Hmmmmm.... I bought a couple of those style on ebay back when i had my Tilt, both of them broke. One out of the box had the issue you explained where only one side would work. the other worked for a while but broke after a short period of time. Most definitely these are junk.
I bought another style as well, but it had other issues. Would play though stereo headphones or speakers just fine, but for some reason tilt would make calls while listening to media, fuze did the same. It was a three in one type looked like this one: http://store.wmexperts.com/htc-3-in-1-usb-adapter/11A176A3571.htm .
I havent really used the HTC one that came with the fuze other than a couple of times when i first got it, and was playing with FM radio. Build quality seems strong. Phone didnt make calls while i was listening to media .
I have a couple of these:
http://www.semsons.com/2miusband3st.html
They're compact, no cable, and have mini usb for charging (and cheap). Seem pretty durable. Works on my Kaiser, Fuze.
Update:
I bought one of those that snathanb recommended and same F***KING PROBLEM.
This is my 6th audio-cable now, do I have to sell my £500 phone and buy another one just so I can listen to audio in my regular headphones..
And guess what, because this one is officially from HTC ("the real deal" as snathanb put it) they refuses to give me warranty on it!!
Heres the answer I got from HTC warranty support(after having to explain to them 5 times that its not a phone, its a cable FOR a phone) :
"Thank you for your feedback. You can certainly buy a new cable. Please see available accessories on our website at: www.htc.com Thank you."
yeah those suck too, go with the ones with no wire. they are on ebay for about $6 US shipped. I just ordered one. You're asking for trouble with any that have wires. As a side note, you are better off building your own male to male 3.5mm cable with parts from radio shack if you know how. It isn't hard, plus you can use higher quality parts.

6 cables from multiple manufacturers...
Still on my first cable. I wonder if perhaps you should take a bit better care of the adapter; they appear to be a bit fragile.
Hopefully HTC will have the 3.5 adapter right in the phone someday.

Thanks thats good advice that its probably the cable bit that is the problem so the noncable ones might work, unfortunately they are impossible to get in the UK
Which makes me so angry that if HTC are so cheap they cant even include a cable with the product they should atleast not make me have to chase the cable all around the globe,
I found one on ebay but the seller is in Hongkong.
mackay: all I do is walk with them 20min to work every day, I guess that puts a certain repetive tear on them but it should not even be close to damaging the cable.

how are the sound qualities from these guys? do they give the background static noises like the cable ones? So far only the original dongle and this other adapter with built-in mic I got off ebay offer good sound quality. I'm looking for another adapter just for music only though.
i got the orginal HTC 3.5mm adaptor and it happens to mine sometimes as well where the audio will cut ou t of one or two headphones. i think its because I keep it in my pocket and the wire is always twisting and bending, something you have to live with tho if you don't want to switch to bluetooth
And people wonder why the iphone is eating every HTC + Microsoft device's lunch.
WAKE THE F*** UP, HTC! People don't want to deal with stupid chintzy adapters to listen to music on their $500 phone!
Hi,
I was wondering if this capability is possible on the Desire? Would it be possible in future? It would be nice to connect the desire up to the TV, a bit like the N900 to quickly watch some videos, pictures, play games etc...

Great question, and I'd hate to see this get lost in the shuffle. I'm no pro in this regard, but i know of no external-out from any of these HTC phones other than music, phone, usb data...
But I would love some XDA-dev whiz to write some gizmo that exploits some X factor inside the Desire that magically makes this possible
Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible. The Droid Incredible will have composite output and I think the Evo 4G has HDMI outut.
The Incredible and Desire are very similar spec wise and the composite out is via micro usb, I'm still hoping this can also work for the Desire.
Would be awesome if we could port the incredible tv-out option to desire.
But first let´s take a look at the hardware side
Could someone please take a look at the desires micro-usb port?
Does it share the same 7 extra pins as seen on this shot of the incredible micro usb port?
BTW "homemade incredible tv-out cable:
http://lanrat.com/android/incredible-video-out
Nope, Desire does not have those extra pins for video output. .
Wonder if this would still be possible to do with the normal Micro USB port. Not that is matters much to me as I don't even have a TV, but eh. lol.
I have combed through forums, read article after article, but I cannot find an answer to this question.
But first, I should introduce myself. I'm a long time lurker but first time poster! Thanks to you guys, I ordered my G tablet a few days ago and it should be coming in today!
Secondly, I wanted to thank all the developers and members on this forum. You guys (and gals?) have been an invaluable source of information! (And a seriously effective form of marketing! Viewsonic should be paying you guys!!)
Ok, now onto the question. I've been reading that the microphone on the tablet is... sub-par. And I've also read that there is no way to have an external line-in. My question is, is the microphone replaceable to add more sensitivity? Or is it possible to wire up the microphone so that instead of a microphone we install a 3.5 mm jack in its place? As a songwriter, getting song ideas down into a program like "songmemo" or "4-tracks" is going to be pretty important.
Once I receive my tablet (after I study for finals ), I'm going to take it apart and see what is possible. (also, thanks to "t3h_g3n3r4l" for the hardware breakdown thread, now I know what I'm getting myself into!)
+1 An alternate microphone would be great, or even better the ability to use any external mic. I also use both those programs listed, but the built-in mic is a little issue. I would assume a small preamp circuit could be made to fit and attached to a 3.5mm jack and soldered on in replacement of the current mic, but I have not opened mine to check, otherwise it would be nice to add software that could handle a usb microphone.
My tablet still hasn't arrived yet! I have a pile of accessories that have already been delivered and no tablet! This is killing me. I really should be studying for finals but this waiting is making it hard to concentrate.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. The only reason an external usb mic or even a bluetooth headset wouldn't work would be because the software. Unfortunately I'm horrible at coding so I don't even know what it would take for a fix like that and I'm not going to post some egregious request.
As soon as my tablet comes in, I'll pop it open and see what I find. If the microphone is wired in, then I think soldering in a 3.5 mm jack should be easy. And if the signal is low, you could always use an external pre once the jack is in.
The only issue I can see is if the G tab uses one of those cell phone "button" type microphones. I'm not familiar with how those work. Though I'm sure there's a solution even for that.
What I am trying to figure out is if you can use a headset mic because if you can I can solder up a 3.5mm jack with a preamp, and also the software is already built in android to handle a headset mic.
*Edit* Headset mic is a no go I guess on to another idea...
Alright, so was delivered.
Once I finish writing this essay, I'll take this baby apart and see what our options are.
Hopefully this help. Its the chip that handles the audio made by realtek.

Thankyou that will help greatly! It appears that the chip has multiple stereo mic/line-in inputs including one that has a built in preamp, so now the question is will android allow us to utilize those inputs if we hook them up allowing us to use not only the internal mic but an external plugged into a 3.5mm jack? I think some testing is in order ....

*Edit* I opened my G-Tab and it is quite possible to replace the stock mic with a 3.5mm jack, but you will need some serious soldering skills (very small solder points) unless you just cut the wires to the existing mic and reuse them (leave them soldered to the board) which I am not to keen on. As far as soldering another input right to the chip, this is also possible (again you would have to have some real skill with the iron as they are also very very small soldering points. It might be easier to write a usb driver and software to use my m-audio box lol (and I am excellent with a soldering iron). On a side note I saw they got ubuntu 11.04 working on the gtab so once they get the sound going in it, my usb m-box should work great (I may wait for this option. Ardour would be nice)
Beeeeaauuutifull!!
Though, I'm a bit wary to try anything on my brand new G tab. Heh.
Oh but it looks so promising!
Edit: Ok, now I can't see the pinout you posted..

Me too lol, my wife hates when I bust out the iron on new toys. She doesn't want me messing up her $400 dollar angry birds machine.
I need a car dock for my shiny new HTC One XL. I was thinking about getting the iBolt car dock but should I wait until someone released a car dock that uses pogo? Will this ever happen?
Thanks.
Pogo? most likely not because pogo's are for people to use and jump around with.
Kidding aside, there will be one coming out. And as a matter of fact check htcpedia and the international one has it (except its not released yet).
If you aren't in a rush then I would wait for one that uses the POGO pins. Given it will cost more probably but it will be less wear on your charging port.

Not for the XL/AT&T, for some reason HTC doesn't want to make an official one
Does that imply that there is one for the OneX international?
Not to like throw out something crazy, but do the pogo pins act as just a typical USB port? Charging and all? I have a double din headunit size, and I replaced it with a single din unit plus one of those empty trays. It's the perfect size for a my HOX slide all the way back. I was considering buying pogo pins, then using a little manufacturing, have some holes cut in the tray where my HOX would line up, then put a rail on the side so it stays in place. So then when I was in my car, I could just drop my device into said tray, get charing and audio right there. Kinda hard to visualize just from text, but it's a cool idea I promise.
Far out there, but I think I'd save a few bucks. My only problem is that 99% of stereo head units don't have a connection protocol for Android devices as opposed to iPods, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love my One X, but I still use the dock in my car for my iPhone 4, simply because it's easier.

Here at iBOLT.co we have looked at doing something with the Pogo pins but it is impossible to solve it so they work with cases...
Bought a micro hdmi to my tablet today. The guy in the store gave me one when I said it was for my Transformer Pad.
The thing is that the picture I get on my tv looks cartoonish, like when you take a photo and put on a effect that looks like you painted it yourself.
Anyone know why it looks like ****?
Unfortunately, that is the quality we get. Both TF101 and TF300T look about the same over hdmi, maybe the 300 is slightly better. The only thing u can really do is to have a high quality cable, and make adjustments to your tv's color, contrast, and picture size. My guess as to why this is...it probly has something to do with using the micro hdmi connector instead of a full size connector...the small connector is the bottleneck, reducing the throughput and quality.
I don't know about pictures, I'll have to try some. I do know that my HD movies looks perfect on my 46" TV. I've never paid more than $5 for any HDMI cable, if you pay more than that you're probably getting ripped off or just paying to have someones name printed on it. HDMI is digital, 1's and 0's, there's really no difference in cables, the old style RCA cables were analog, and needed to be short length and high quality. You can google it if you don't believe it.

LOL! What BS! HDMI is a digital signal not analog. With digital there is either a signal or no no signal. The micro cable conforms to the same HDMI spec as the regular cable so there can be no quality loss.
The last time I connect my TF101 to my TV it looked fine. No cartoons. And I'm using some cheap cable from Amazon.
My tv picture looks awesome when connected through hdmi. Probably 10 times better than the display on the tablet due to full hd.

Wow dude...who pissed in your wheaties? I didn't say that this was the absolute truth. It was my guess...If i am wrong, then i am wrong...IT WAS A GUESS! Take that chip off of your shoulder and take a chill pill.
I know what he was talking about..the homescreen looks a bit cartoonish because of the colors, but it does not have this effect when viewing movies and other things.
It has this effect all the time, on the homescreen and watching movies and pictures.
I didn't want to order a cable so I bought a over priced one for about $20. (Yes it was expensive but I am lazy )
I think the cable i pretty good, even supportin 4k resulution, but what do I know
Should I return the cable sense te quality is really bad? My Lg KU990 Viewty from 2007 did a much better job when connected to a tv, movies looked great, so a device from 2012 should be better.
Well according to the guys above, it doesnt matter if the cable is a namebrand or not. I would have to disagree. Not all cables are made equal. Different manufacturers use different quality of materials which can lead to different results. Give it a shot and replace the cable. Doesn't hurt to try. I just cant see it being a tv problem. If it was, then why would my ps3 and xbox360 both connected by hdmi not have this problem? That leaves the cable and the connecting device left to look at.

Yes, the picture quality is great from my 360. I will return the cable someday soon then.
There are setting available on the Pad once you have plugged HDMI in but I think they only control the screen ration.
The first thing I would check on your TV is if there are any custom enabled when using HDMI (Vibrant, or Game etc.). You may find that your TV is adding image processing which can result in garish colours or a very unbalanced Gamma curve.
The only time you would need to worry about picture quality from the cable itself is if you went for a freakishly long one, say 3M+. Then you'd noticed some signal degradation as the bit errors would increase significantly though this would more likely produce ghosting or image lag.
Above poster got the cable info correct.
A 3+M cable should use super leads, so if it doesn't work it's crap.
In other words there are two kinds of HDMI cables. The working kind and crap.
The working kind can be any price (from cheap to insanely expensive), but IF you're buying a really, really long cable you can start looking at name brands.
My cable is 2 m. Going to watch Burn Notice on another tv. Will see if it's better there.
