Colors seem washed out, unsaturated - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody else have the colors look a little washed out? I tried vivid and standard colors, but barely see a difference between the two. Maybe my S5 has just spoiled me.
Sent from OnePlus One

The OPO does not use a Super AMOLED device so colors seem different, blacks are more grays. You can adjust it accordingly by using the custom presetting
Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54321008&postcount=6
Adjust the settings around till you get it the way you want it.

The S5 is oversaturated, that's probably why this display seems washed out to you, it's a more natural colour balance.

I had the worst problem coming from a note 2 to a nexus 5. I put the nexus and the opo next to each other tonight and the displays look the same. Is just how a IPS display is.

Try these settings. Looks pretty close to my GS5.

When I have my brightness maxed out and the option to increase brightness in sunlight turned on I see this as well.

It's because most displays these days exceed the sRGB color space, and Android doesn't use color spaces, so colors are generally mapped to the full gamut of the phones' displays instead of trying to match sRGB. The OPO's color is actually VERY accurate compared to most phones out there (a major reason why I got it vs the Sony Z3). Just needs to warm up the white balance a bit.

[Q] Strange ring on the gray background

I find a strange ring on the gray background, such as the background of the notification interface.
The ring can only be seen in dark circumstance and it won't appear on the backgound in any other color. I've run some screen test software to ensure this strange problem.
Is there anyone else found this problem? How does it comes?
You can see the ring in the pic. I turned the light off when took the pic

Is it possibly burn in? Many amoled screen owners have burn in, including me and hundreds of other nexus one owners. Is there something circular that stays in that location on your screen all the time?
It could be the wallpaper?
Yes if your wall paper has a circle in that location, that guaranteed that's it. These amoled screens do not like static images in one location, burn in is very common.

I'm sure that it is not cause by burn in, becasue I only use the nexus default live wall paper and none of my apps have a circle in that place.
Like I said, the most strange thing is I can't see this circle in any other background except the gray one.

I have the very same ring here, also only visible in dark environments. Looks like they are using vacuum cups to handle the display glass ...

ja, I also guess that is caused by the way of handle the screen.
BTW, your Nexus S is i9020 or i9023? It seems that the Nexus S sold in Germany is i9023.
If your device is i9023, than it will prove that the problem can be found in both Super Clear LED and Super AMOLED (my device is Super AMOLED).
I have that to.
But I only see it in the notification bar. I think its suppose to be there....

It's a i9020 imported from UK.
Did you ever figure this out? I have the exact same problem, my ring is the same size, but a different location
so how do we get rid of it???

Whats my phone version?

Title ^^^^^^&^^
my version is I9023XXKF1 is good or bad?
It's terrible.
Actually, it's just a Nexus S? It has a S-LCD screen. SAMOLED is touted to be better in terms of contrast, color and viewing angle and is only on the i9020 versions. However it has a grid pattern not exhibited on the S-LCD version.
Congrats! You have a Nexus S

Shalom javer, the only difference is the Screen, its LCD instead of the i9020's SAMOLED, that has better dark color.
To know what yours is go to settings ---> "About the phone", there you can find it.
Kol tuv, lehitraot!
oh, and your radio version is XXKF1.
@polobunny what grid pattern? i dont see a grid pattern on my 9020

Use a neutral grey background and put your brightness to lowest. Look carefully.
If you still don't notice it, good for you, because once you notice it you cannot unsee it.
Should look like this

youre right. i see it now. in that tone of color they are very visable(in the dark). i keep my screen at the lowest settings at all times, but i also almost always use pitch black wallpaper so i dont see it. i guess out of sight, out of mind with me. thanks for showing me though, i wouldnt have believed it otherwise
In settings.apk I see my phone model is I9023 and in the menu of recovery I see I9020
What's my phone model? x.x
BUMP^^^^^^^^^
The hardware model of your phone is printed under the battery. Pull your battery and look at the label on the phone, it will say MODEL: GT-I902X.

SAVE BATTERY by turning off some AMOLED screen pixels!
Click to collapse
Some AMOLED screen powered devices are able to "turn off" those pixels which are showing black colour. This app will let you to turn off some pixels in order to save your appreciate battery by showing very small black points.
As newer devices comes with very high density screens those points will be insignificant to the user´s sight and will be offset by lower spending battery

Very nice, but does the black pixel pattern change over a set period of time? Will be a nice and must-have feature.

yes, as long as it has an AMOLED screen. Which almost all Samsung devices have
One critical drawback with all the amoled pixel-off apps is that photos in Gallery have micro burst of flickers even when left alone to view, happens on some other apps too. It is so bad that flicker actually hurt my eyes and very irritating to look at.
I noticed this on both i9300 and N910U.
This happens with your app too, using it atm.
Feedback please dev.

Yes, thanks for the feedback. I am currently aware of this, but there seem to not be an easy solution for this as it depends on the hardware config.
However, you could try changing the mesh level (3 different levels available in free version) and see if the problem is still there. Also, you can check the 'Display Notification' option in order to have quick access to mesh toggle
Hope this helps
great app. Thanks!
Can we turning our Qhd screens to 1080p or 720p...?
Thanks very much for this great app.
Has anyone noticed real life battery improvements using this app?

Useless

Just got my Gear S2 Classic. Very nice, apart from one major issue. The screen is so dim in ambient mode its almost invisible outdoors. I don't think the brightness can be increased.
I'm going to get rid of the watch and keep my pebble steel. The gear has failed at its primary purpose - to tell the time.
I know i can wake it up by moving my wrist, but this rarely works in practice, and defeats the purpose of ambient mode anyway....
Try using different watch faces. Different watch faces have different ambient modes.
Other than the stock watch faces you can also install Mr.Watchmaker and Watchland.

Thanks, but as far as i can see they only change the content of the display, not its brightness. It's the brightness that is the issue which I presume is built into the operating system

Are you trying to read the watch with polarized sunglasses? If so, try turning the watch face a few degrees, it should allow more light through the "filter" in your sunglasses.

Is your brightness set to 10 in settings? This is how mine looks in ambient mode and I don't have issues with brightness.

Thanks, yeah, it's set to 10 but doesn't seem to affect ambient mode.
I can see it easily indoors in ambient mode, but outside in sunlight it's almost invisible.

Did you try the suggestion of using Pro mode and change the [AWB] level to manual and adjust the slider until you find the correct white balance?
its always hard to compensate warm yellow lights. You have to understand how photogrpahy and your eyes are working. And other thing is that the new sensor on P30/P30 pro uses an RYYB filter instead of RGGB. SO even harder to conpensate the colour temperature.
thzere are tons of articles about colour temperature, compensationa, RYYB filter array on camera chip etc.

yes but there seems to be no help with such lighting ... it's stupid how much the phone costs without having this kind of problem ... the first time i encountered this problem ... i used samsung before and it wasn't like this so now this is new ... except for this problem and the worse sound of a really great phone ..
