I find a strange ring on the gray background, such as the background of the notification interface.
The ring can only be seen in dark circumstance and it won't appear on the backgound in any other color. I've run some screen test software to ensure this strange problem.
Is there anyone else found this problem? How does it comes?
You can see the ring in the pic. I turned the light off when took the pic

Is it possibly burn in? Many amoled screen owners have burn in, including me and hundreds of other nexus one owners. Is there something circular that stays in that location on your screen all the time?
It could be the wallpaper?
Yes if your wall paper has a circle in that location, that guaranteed that's it. These amoled screens do not like static images in one location, burn in is very common.

I'm sure that it is not cause by burn in, becasue I only use the nexus default live wall paper and none of my apps have a circle in that place.
Like I said, the most strange thing is I can't see this circle in any other background except the gray one.

I have the very same ring here, also only visible in dark environments. Looks like they are using vacuum cups to handle the display glass ...

ja, I also guess that is caused by the way of handle the screen.
BTW, your Nexus S is i9020 or i9023? It seems that the Nexus S sold in Germany is i9023.
If your device is i9023, than it will prove that the problem can be found in both Super Clear LED and Super AMOLED (my device is Super AMOLED).
I have that to.
But I only see it in the notification bar. I think its suppose to be there....

It's a i9020 imported from UK.
Did you ever figure this out? I have the exact same problem, my ring is the same size, but a different location
so how do we get rid of it???

Hello all, i have myself an 02 XDA Exec, but during the light of a soft reset
the screen is now working with fault
it looks like there is some sort of high contrast or the in could be bleading on the inside, but the touch feature works, will display pictures
Notice how the screen has different shades, but also patches in the corners of the screen, as ive mentioned the touch sensetivity works fine but the screen looks to be a bit pixelated and and in a different sort of contrast (i am currently reading up on the dis-assembly of it so if its something internal please say something about it)
and no i havnt banged it, smashed it, tried beating it up etc, i honestly dont know whats happened to it.

this is my today screen after a hard reset, basic windows mobile default, look at the different tones of colouring, the sort of slashes across the screen and the shades in the corner of the screen, and im not sure why, although i dont think it really can be ink bleading as when the phone is turned off the screen is as it should be, just off.
Now i will try out the camera on both sides, from the phone and from my camera
Camera's Side
Notice how the screen is in a sort of negative/contrasted style, not one im enjoying thats for sure, but coming from the phone the results are different
Exec Camera
notice how the camera still processes the image properly
which leads me to believe something is wrong with the screen
maybe some part of the frame is being pressed against it or something like that
i will be monitoring this thread closely and please help
With Many Thanks
Exemike
Does it have this pink tint in reality too? (not only on the shots?)
If it does (and a hard reset doesn't help), then, one of the color transfer wires may be dead or have "only" developed a contact error (or, plainly, they have just been removed from their socket. This happened a lot with other models.)
That is, I'm pretty much sure it's a cheaply fixable problem. Try disassembling your casing and try to rearrange the wires.
pink/purple tint, but the screen apears in perfect shape
any guides on getting into the screen,
thanks very much.

Mango comes with default red. Anyone can verify??
Hmm, what a strange assumption?!.. If it was a black on black scheme, I can agree
Black on Black uses more power on "regular" LCD Displays. AFAIK, only AMOLED screens use less power when displaying a black screen compared to white.
red is a low intensity colour right?
used in military for night operations..
I assume the change to red as default color scheme comes from the new, square windows phone logo. They changed that from a green circle to a red square.

Another strange assumption Why do you think so?!.. Do you have an idea how LCD display works?
yes, I know how LCD Displays work. The ammount of power it takes more to show a black image i just so tiny, that it doesn't really matter.

I don't understand what you are trying to say but black pixels does not required power at all So, "black-on-black" is a most "energy-saving theme" unless it's just useless
on regular LCD displays they actually do, as pixels are translucent by default. It requires energy to "shut them" in order to display black.

That’s right - the EL light in the back is one sheet and it is always on (when powered up). Think of the pixels as shutters letting the light through-
I cannot imagine that one color scheme vs. another could make a measurable difference.
Guys, LCD uses a few slightly different technologies... Are you talking about old STN (Super Twisted Nematic) implementation? Forget about it! Try to google about TFD/TFT...
HTC HD7 use a twisted nematic display
In Malaysia, maxis gave out wp7 with default green color as its their corporate color. Celcom gave out w default blue theme.. I guess it's d operator thing..

my version is I9023XXKF1 is good or bad?
It's terrible.
Actually, it's just a Nexus S? It has a S-LCD screen. SAMOLED is touted to be better in terms of contrast, color and viewing angle and is only on the i9020 versions. However it has a grid pattern not exhibited on the S-LCD version.
Congrats! You have a Nexus S

Shalom javer, the only difference is the Screen, its LCD instead of the i9020's SAMOLED, that has better dark color.
To know what yours is go to settings ---> "About the phone", there you can find it.

oh, and your radio version is XXKF1.
@polobunny what grid pattern? i dont see a grid pattern on my 9020

Use a neutral grey background and put your brightness to lowest. Look carefully.
If you still don't notice it, good for you, because once you notice it you cannot unsee it.

youre right. i see it now. in that tone of color they are very visable(in the dark). i keep my screen at the lowest settings at all times, but i also almost always use pitch black wallpaper so i dont see it. i guess out of sight, out of mind with me. thanks for showing me though, i wouldnt have believed it otherwise
In settings.apk I see my phone model is I9023 and in the menu of recovery I see I9020
What's my phone model? x.x
BUMP^^^^^^^^^
The hardware model of your phone is printed under the battery. Pull your battery and look at the label on the phone, it will say MODEL: GT-I902X.

Hello,
I have a problem with my screen. It is there since I can remember, but with the grayish interface it is really starting to get annoying. I'm wondering if anyone has had the same. It is just a white "dot" with a longer, lighter stripe. Mostly visible on gray backgrounds, but also on black/other dark colors.

You might want to show it to the service center, they might get your screen replaced.

That is the problem. In Holland we do not have service centers. If I want to have it fixed I will have to send it to HTC.
Someone has at least an idea what it is or how to describe it to HTC?
Thanks.

hi, i think if u write them a mail and attach those pics there will be no need for in-depth description. just tell them since when u have that and how it started to appear.

I sure that that isn't a defect screen, if it was then it should be all black, and not have the statusbar shown. I was thinking, maybe if you got try to hook it up to your TV, with an HDMI, and see if it works that way.
But it could be the a bad download of the rom.

Thanks but your missing the point slightly. The screen works fine, but on darker backgrounds there is a white spot with a stripe in the middle as can be seen clearly I think.

Good luck.
Did you find out what was the problem with your screen? My Sensation has developed the exact same thing, right there in the middle of the screen.
I am deciding wether I can live with it or if I should try my luck with a replacement from T-Mobile (a refurb). If it's something that could get worse (my guess is yes) then it's going back for sure.
Anybody else have the colors look a little washed out? I tried vivid and standard colors, but barely see a difference between the two. Maybe my S5 has just spoiled me.

The OPO does not use a Super AMOLED device so colors seem different, blacks are more grays. You can adjust it accordingly by using the custom presetting
Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54321008&postcount=6
Adjust the settings around till you get it the way you want it.
The S5 is oversaturated, that's probably why this display seems washed out to you, it's a more natural colour balance.

I had the worst problem coming from a note 2 to a nexus 5. I put the nexus and the opo next to each other tonight and the displays look the same. Is just how a IPS display is.

When I have my brightness maxed out and the option to increase brightness in sunlight turned on I see this as well.
It's because most displays these days exceed the sRGB color space, and Android doesn't use color spaces, so colors are generally mapped to the full gamut of the phones' displays instead of trying to match sRGB. The OPO's color is actually VERY accurate compared to most phones out there (a major reason why I got it vs the Sony Z3). Just needs to warm up the white balance a bit.
