[Q] Help with Vodafone Smart Mini (Alcatel OT-V875) - battery issues - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I bought a UK Vodafone Smart Mini (Alcatel OT-V875 Mediatek MT6575) with no battery and no back - sold
as is - no history.
Batteries are kinda expensive for this phone (ALi014A 4-terminal), so I've been trying to see if it is a
working phone before I risk buying a battery.
If I plug in a charger, the notification led comes on solid blue, but pressing the POWER button
does nothing.
If I attach a charged Li-Ion 3.7 v 2-terminal battery (4.1 v measured) taken from another phone to the
phone's + and - contacts with clips and press+hold the POWER button, nothing happens. The blue led
stays off.
If I attach the phone to a PC via USB with no battery, the Mediatek preloader device appears
then disappears from the device manager. It does this every time I unplug and plug the phone
into the PC.
If I attach the phone to a PC via USB with just the 2 terminals connected to a battery, the
Mediatek preloader appears and disappears the first time, but if I unplug and plug the phone in again,
no USB devices are found. The blue led comes on as soon as I attach the USB lead and stays on
after I have unplugged it.
If I install the Mediatek preloader VCOM drivers, start SP Flash Tool in readback with this
[attachment 1]
readback map and connect the phone to the PC with USB, I get a complete download of the flash memory
- it takes about 40 minutes.
I have used bgcngm's mtk unpack tools in Cygwin to successfully unpack the BOOTIMG, RECOVERY and LOGO
images and they all look like Linux stuff, but I have no idea whether they are b0rked by
file misconfigurations within the packed image.
I have dumped the phone's cache space (0x3da4c000 to 0x40000000) and this is nearly all zeros
( compresses from 39534592B to 12055B ), so it looks like the last owner did a cache wipe before
selling it.
Here's how the other parts of the image look.
[attachment 2]
So my question is - does this phone _need_ a 4-terminal battery to boot ?

[SOLVED]
So I worked it out myself - this phone won't boot with 'ON'switch at all with just a 2-terminal battery. Reading datasheet of Mediatek and Ricoh PMIC chip I see the other 2 pins need to be connected with resistors - easy.
Now it boots.

Me too

Hi,
I have the same issue and intend to use the phone as a security cam and so don't need battery power. If you could post the pins/resistor values that would be great!

10k to ground - pins from the pic on any auction site selling the right battery. 4th pin is not some crypto-authentication anti-counterfeit nonsense, despite what some sites claim - this is a cheeeeep phone !

Hi, I wanted to just double check the pins before hooking up the wires to my phone, as I don't want to kill my phone

Assume pin1 is on the left and pin4 is on the right, I'm guessing this is how to wire it up:
Pin 1: 10k to Battery -ve
Pin 2: Battery -ve
Pin 3: 10k to Battery -ve
Pin 4: Battery +ve
Is this correct?
Finally where can I find the Ricoh PMIC chip datasheet? I have another phone (VF-675) which uses a similar battery and would like to power it also without the official battery which is TLi014A2 which is a the same size and capacity as the TLi014A1. Thanks

Pins - yes
PMIC data sheet from Ricoh
I see no-one hits the 'Thanks' button much in this forum.

Perfect, thanks, I found the button also, I'm new here I managed to power the phone from an 18650 and it works great, looks a little ugly, I cut up a SD to Micro SD card adaptor in order to press against the phones battery contacts.
I went thru the datasheet also, a lot of it was over my head, but I have a similar Mediatek phone (alcatel 4030x) which has similar problems with the battery swelling up so I think I'll try that with an 18650 as it seems to use the same PMIC.

Dead SPV M600 / Charger Shorting question

Hello all, your forum is very useful and full of dedicated people.
I am sorry if my question is redundant, I know there has been threads about this topic already (like here) but I can't get the things described to work for me so my last resort is to start a thread of my own. Plus I think it might help others trying to get their M600/Prophet back on tracks.
Here is what happened with mine : an flash went wrong (error on the computer, stuck at 80% for a long long time (i mean long, not the usual few minutes we all know of)). So I had to unplug the whole thing and reset it. It went into the bootloader (3 colors screen) ok after the reset with USB written in the bottom left corner when plugged in. But (for no real l reason) I tried to reforce it in bootloader mode with Camera + Reset and from this point on, it never booted again, never reacted to any manpipulation (Power + Reset, Power long, Camera + Reset), it doesnt even has the LED on when the wall charger is plugged in.
I searched the forum and found links like the one reported earlier in this post or this one here
So I tried those but can't get it to work cus I don't really think i understand what to do :
Here is what i did :
I plugged the cut wall charger that now looks like this :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and this :
now when it's said to connect the charger direcly to the pins are we talking about those pins ? and if yes, which one are the 1 and 5 ? the red ones or the green ones ? I know the white wire (+) has to go on the 1st pin but I dont know which one is the 1st.
plus, do i have to connect the wires to those pins while the battery is also plugged in or when the battery is out ? Or even with another charger plugged in?
Once the manipulation is done, do I put the batter back in and it should start ok directly in bootloader mode ? Or do i need to plug it back into the wall so that it does.
Anyways, as you can see that shorting manipulation is really unclear to me and I did not manage to make it work.
If anyone could shed some light on this one, that would really help me out and I am sure it would help others as well.
Thx in advance for your answers.

Two interesting accesories!

Hey there! I wanted to share two accesories I found the other day surfing in e-Bay. I don't know if they'll be posted or not, but a bit of information never hurts and I think the prize is very good!!
1. Sony SmartTag
These NFC-enabled tags are used to quickly change your phone’s settings whenever you touch your phone to them. That’s real useful for saving battery life and ensuring your phone is set up correctly.
They come in a pack of four, so you might have one tag on your night stand, one tag in your car, one tag on your desk at the office and one back at home on the coffee table. When you go to bed at night, tap the tag on your night stand to turn off wireless and turn on a clock app. When you get up and get into your car to go to work, Bluetooth and GPS come on and a navigation app starts. At the office, GPS turns off and wireless turns on – and your phone is set to vibrate too. It’s the same deal when you get back in the car, and then finally when you get home you’ll get wireless back on and GPS back off.
Imagine doing that by hand – you’d be forever in settings menus and the like, if you remembered at all! With SmartTags though, it’s just a tap to the tag and everything is done behind the scenes for you.
Even though these tags are made by Sony, they’re compatible with any Android phone that has NFC compatibility - a quickly growing list that includes the HTC One X, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, the Motorola Droid Razr.
So if you want to start saving time and effort with NFC, you don’t have to rush out and get a new Sony phone. In fact, many BlackBerry phones come with NFC too – so these tags could work with them too if an app is available.
You can store information like...
- Switch on the Bluetooth, Gps navigation or Wifi
- Change the wallpaper, Turn on the alarm app
- Switch to silent mode, send sms, play tracks
- Start an application, open an url etc can be stored in a tag.

Acer Laptop Heating & Shutdown Solution

Hello XDA community and Acer Laptop User
First, let me address the Acer Laptop Users. I bought a used Acer Aspire 5930z from Kijiji for $200 and later found out what the seller meant by Heating Problem. I then discover that with Acers' overheating -and to others a lot- means shutdown or so I thought.
I've tried multiple -cheap- solutions that didn't work...
- Googled for solutions
- Apply Thermal Paste (Arctic Silver 5 aka AS5) to CPU Card & Graphic Card
- Took apart the Laptop; Clearing Dust from fan, check for loose or damaged parts
- Clearing files with CCleaner (and used Speccy for Temperture, mostly +45)
- Using SpeedFan program to run fan high
- Got suggestions -thermal paste, motherboard replace- from professionals (No, I didn't give it to a tech to fix...$50-100 for taking apart, looking & reasembling...and one guy told me its a screen problem, a fix for $100, but buy the laptop for $12...haha...I understand, but no)
- Put three 1L containers of Ice underneath Fan & Vents to suck in cold air (Temps stayed at 30-50 and Laptop run for a long period of time ~8hrs)
Then today I Googled for a solution again and found a thread -a word makes a difference- with an answer from a KennyJo with a promising explaination and when I checked to see if I was on the right track. I found I was and what might be the problem also to why even down to the professionals & Kijiji buyer couldn't figure out...no one needed to look inside the laptop.
In fact what KennyJo stated it the problem is an incorrect -not faulty, wrong- Laptop charger -power supply aka psu- as the current one/wrong one I have says the OUTPUT is 19V - 4.74A - 90W when the one I am suppose to have/right one is 19V - 3.42A - 65W.
So yes after reading the whole thread, find KennyJo's answer, googling what psu my Acer 5930z needs and discovering I have the wrong charger might mean no loss anymore...HEEY YAAH.
Info
- KennyJo's answer to Acer's Heat & Shutdown Problem [Click Here]
The reason for the whole auto shut down thing is my power supply. Whenever I used some program required higher performance (including watching a video), or in another word, more power supply to the system, the psu would fail (overheat?) and shut the whole system down.
Even though the case of my psu was cool, the place where the fan located was actually very hot.And I believe not enough voltage for my cpu fan was the reason why my cpu temp was so high.
For those who might be facing this problem, I strongly recommend you to check you power supply after finding applying the cooling compound do not work.
And the auto shut down have not happened again so far

For XDA Community...Mods please I beg,
I tried to post this on Acer's Community forum to inform there laptop makers that they should bridge a gap with Users to at least allow them to know simple things like this (slap a sticker so people know), but had so much trouble just signing up for the site.
I know there is a thread for Laptops/Desktops, but Acer's rep has been down for this. Though there rep doesn't matter people want solutions. Sometimes its not about being invincible, but repairable (That can be applied to a lot of things like Infrastructure or Project Ara).
So I beg don't remove or move this thread.
[New Nov 16, 2015] Turns out it too was the charger for me, My Stepfather bought my Lil'Sister a Laptop Acer E5-521. And to the person who voted cooling pad, same if I kept using the 4.74Amps PSU and the 1L of containers of ice...like a Desktop.

iDoing 10.25 Recovery mode? - No keys!

Hello! I am looking a way to go into the Recovery mode of this unit by iDoing (PX5 4GB/64GB Android 10)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001268573059.html
The only button I can find is a reset button on the side of the screen. No other buttons exist - not even "virtual" ones, or at least I cannot find something more.
What I have tried so far:
1) Hold the reset button for around 45 seconds and then release it
2) Hold it for like 20 seconds and then immediately press again and release it
3) Hold it for like 20-30 seconds and then immediately press 2 times and release it
4) Attach a keyboard to the first usb slot and tried ALT+Printscreen+e (repeatedly). Nothing. The keyboard and its Num indicator are only working when the screen finishes booting and it is in the Android environment.
I contacted the seller but they don't understand what I am looking for. I know that the last resort is to go into the Android and with pseudo-console to issue a command for reboot and recovery.
However, since I am about to experiment with some roms, I will not be able to do this every time. Does anyone have any idea/proposal on how to get it to the recovery with only this button? Is there a chance I will not be able to boot into recovery?

Thank you very much for your reply!
Here is the information I could get from the system. It seems like MTCE_PSD (to be honest I haven't found anywhere this vendor! I saw some lists around the web with the vendors, but couldn't find PSD!).
Yes, it is a MTCD variant (PSD). If unable to identify a method to enter recovery, you could hardwire a recovery switch per my threads.

Thank you sooo much!
I have read a lot of threads and posts these days. What I understood is that if you can't access the recovery then two solutions:
1) find another px5 device with keys that goes to recovery and plug your board on it (I have read that you did it )
2) solder a permanent bridge between VDD and CTL_Recovery pins so you can force the system to get into a "recovery" and then use software on PC to do your work.
marchnz said:
the 'force' recovery method which toggles the SOM recovery line is as follows:
Note, must use this method as the MCU sinks the [CTL-recovery line]
- On mainboard carefully remove SOM header pin [ctl_recovery] - see my signature for schematic (also attched non-watermark version here, happy holidays)
- Solder a wire to the SOM socket [ctl_recovery]
- held [ctl_recovery] wire to [mcu 3.3v test pad]
- Connect PC
- Power on Headunit
- Your PC should chime (new device) and RockChip batch tools indicate "Device Connected"

Hi. Did you find anything? Solution?

Question Triying to revive a black screen SM-R890

Hi, this is the first time i post, I'm a newby and just want to start experimenting with these devices.
I have a Samsung Galaxy watch 4 classic (SM-R890) with a faulty back button, so i bougth a dead watch on ebay to change the buttons and now I want to see if i'm able to bring life back to the ebay bircked watch.
The screenof the bricked device wotks fine (Just tested the screen on my good watch) and also the battery hold charge.
Pressing the two butons while charging doesn't work, (it was the first thing I tried as soon as I get the watch from ebay)
after reading some post here, I tried to connect to the this pins on the bottom of the main board in order to stablish a usb connection

the soldering is not pretty but it works. (also the photo was taked before cleaning the board)
pin order is as follow
5v | Not conected | green | white | gnd
also there is no bridge between the pads, I just tested that with a multimeter.
after installing the samsung usb driver and connected the cable, I saw for and instant the message saying "installing exynos driver" or some messages like that, but after that nothing.....
Now it sound like when you plug a usb device and after a few seconds it sounds like when you discconet the device. but it doesn´t show on device managen neither in odin software.
to "force the connection" on windows I have to press the ON button on the watch and it sound like connecting an usb device again.
i've also tested on linux with "./odin4 -l" command but also no luck.
I just want to know if i'm missing some crucial step in order to connect the watch to the pc via usb.
Hope you can help me bringing back life to this watch.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but the problem is that i can't stablish comunication between the watch and the pc. is there something I can do?
Here's a video showing what happend when i connect the usb cable to the pc on winldows. on linux is the same thing, can't see the device using lsusb command.
when I connect the usb cable I can hear the connecting sound on windows, but after a few seconds it sounds like it disconnects, then I press the red button on the watch and it sounds like connecting again but not for long, I repeat this process a few times and that's why those sounds repeats in the video.
