[Completed] Can't Install Any ROM..!! HELP - XDA Assist

Hey, i am new to android. Just got an old Samsung galaxy sl gt-i9003. it has never been rooted. i tried rooting it using odin and the cf root file by LoLaTiOn for DDMF1 firmware. Did everything correctly and when it came to install zip from sd card, it gave an error after i selected the zip file. the error says- can't open E:/(name_of_the_ROM).zip (bad). I thought the problem might be with the zip file. so i tried a lot of ROMs like CM11 and Nameless but still the same error. please help me. i can't figure out what the problem is. how can i install the ROM properly without any error?.

You are on the Right track. If you could post your query inGalaxy SL i9003 General the right experts may be of help.
EDIT - Per the suggestion of my college @KJ , I want to remind you that you flash a custom Rom zip file with a custom Recovery such as CWM or TWRP. You use ODIN only for Samsung Stock firmware. If you tried to flash custom Roms with ODIN, you may brick your device.

thnx...!!

Also enlighten me on HOW TO FLASH A KERNEL!
Thanks.

First of all this type questions belongs to Q'nA board. As now we are having Q'nA board kindly use it for posting any questions.
As u said u have flashed stock ICS upon ur stock GB. Stock roms (odin flashable packages) comes with stock recovery software. When u flash whole stock rom package it also replace ur recovery and I think that's y after flash u see different recovery software. Simply just flash any CWM package using odin. (U can find collection of adam in dev section).
About flashing kernels. Most of all kernels available for our device are provided in CWM flashable zips by their devs. Simply place zip on ur sd card. Boot in recovery and select install zip. Navigate to zip file and flash it. Kernel will be flashed.

Okay, So I flashed the kernel
Thanks!

Greetings;
1st: you should do some research (either Google or XDA Forum)....
2nd: Try not to duplicate threads.
Now to your problem:
You must use a specific CF-Root for your ROM and Device. Otherwise it wont work (in most cases).
If you're under a Custom Rom, search for the specific CF-ROOT for that ROM.
Also note that most custom Roms are already Rooted. Did you check this before?
Either ways. I see you're using GingerBread Rom...
If you wish to go "Perfect", Just go for FULL DDLF2 ROM.
Search for the specific CF-ROOT and Deodex +.zip file, and Kernel.
The Deodex zip file will help you remove some bloatware. (Just flash CF-Root 1st Before Flashing Deodex Zip file).
After that you can also flash bagaria Kernel (Also search for the specific file for your device).
Hope this helps.
Please press Thanks Buttons if this helped you, as this will keep me motivated to continue helping people.

[Completed] [Q]Samsung galaxy S i9000, cyanogenmod, boot loop

Hi,
I have a samsung galaxy s i9000 with cyanogenmod 9 since a long time ^^ working perfectly till this morning : gapps crash (I changed nothing, maybe just an app error, bug). I decided to restart the phone (not in recovery, a simple restart) and then ... infinite loop, he doesn't boot, i can't access to the recovery mode. I can just do the downloading mode ...
After some researches, I need to do a wipe thanks to recovery mode ...
So I tried to install a CWM with odin, my phone is detected but it doesn't work.
Then I tried with heimdall (google : galaxy s cyanogenmod, 2nd link)
But I have the error "Failed To Initialise Protocol", I think it's because debug usb mode wasn't checked before the crash ..
I don't know what to do ... I just want my phone, I need it. Please help.
P.S : windows 8.1 64 bits, drivers install with samsung kies

Hi,
Thanks to Linux and heimdall, I managed to install another Kernel. Now I can boot on recovery and download, so my phone isn't brick
But now I have another problem, I guess not specific to my phone.
I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434225 (choose KitKat)
Then i download Semaphore 3.4.3 (tried with 3.4.2 too).
Then :
- heimdall flash --KERNEL zImage
- boot in recovery, wipe data, cache, dalvik
- install .zip (with cyanogenmod found here : https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=galaxysmtd, i took cm 10.2.1 and cm 11)
On both error status 0. I did heimdall flash --KERNEL zImage multiple times, with different versions, always same result (I tried --RECOVERY too, don't know what does that do lol).
I made some research and they talk about update-binaries .. i don't know what does that mean.
I think I choose the correct version of Kernel, ROM. Need help for this status 0. Ty
P.S : i choose semaphore 'cause there is a .tar for linux (containing 1 file), i don't know what do to with all these .zip (+odin didn't work for me, stupid error with kies, let say i have only linux ^^)
Glad you got it fixed, thank you for using XDA Assist .

Flash a .zip file with odin

I want to flash .zip Rom with odin v3.07
I've downloaded nolekat rom for my samsung tab 3 neo I was just trying to root it from odin and somehow it stuck at boot logo now. So I have downloaded rom and it is in .zip extension can I change it's name to .tar or .tar.md5
or is my thinking is wrong?
You have to download firmware, you can't flash custom roms with odin only stick firmware, try Sammobile
Sent from my SM-G386T1 using Tapatalk
You use a custom recovery such as twrp or CWM to flash roms. I suggest doing some reading of the How to's and tutorial threads in your device section to learn more.....before you accidentally destroy your device. Odin is for official firmware, as said above. Be very careful with what you flash and how, or your device can become a paperweight quickly.
Read up first, then do. :good:

Custom ROM on Galaxy Core GT-I8260

Hello, I am new to this forum at posting but i've read a lot of posts on this forum. So thanks for all the help in the past (and hopefully in the future).
I am trying to put a custom rom on my GT-I8260 but keep on getting the same problem. I have rooted my phone using Kingroot and tried to put several CWM's on my phone using Odin 3. Odin keeps giving me a PASS message after flashing and rebooting my phone.
Everytime I try to get in recovery mode after flashing the CWM I get the normal CWM instead of the flashed one. Because of this problem I can't install a zip file from sd.
Can you give me advice on how to flash a CWM (and also which one I can use best)? Thank you in advance.
Michiel
