Long story short.
Was running a 4.1.2 which worked well but wanted to go to KK.
Installed Gummy M3 4.4.4, absolutely love it, no issues except cell signal seems considerably worse than before. Baseband is VRBLMD3.
Not sure if firmware/baseband is accurate for 4.4 or if there's something I can flash to try and rectify. A little confused overall on the whole verizon modem thing. I had a captivate on ATT before and I just flashed any of the 30 different modems via recovery to help with signal issues.
Would appreciate any help.
I've read more than one topic on this same issue. Not sure what the solution is however. Maybe update the modem to something new? I wouldn't go beyond ML1 however

Yes.
Flash mf1 aio then ml1 modem. Should give a better signal.
All the links to newer modems appear to be dead. I looked around quite a bit. I'd be grateful if someone can provide a dropbox link or similar.
Edit: It appears invisiblek's site is down and that's where all the AIO packages are linked to. Does anyone have any links to other mirrors?

Is that modem only? Don't I need to flash an aio first?
Thanks for finding that btw

You should update mf1 first, or find MB1 aio. Then flash ml1 modem.

Yes they are the modems only. After looking I only found the MB1 AIO

I think I found it. I just googled mf1.aio.zip and found this guys post. It doesn't have AIO in the name though... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52434920&postcount=2
Think it's legit?

Sorry, I'm a total noob. I don't really understand how the "Baseband Version" factors into the ROM/phone operation. Can someone explain it? I have a pretty good understanding of computers but when it comes to the phone it seems very black-boxy -- I'm still learning. My underlying question is:
The BoneStock ROM says: "BoneStock v3.0 (VRBMF1) 6/23/13", my phone currently has VRBMB1. Can I flash the BoneStock ROM on my phone or do I need to upgrade the Baseband Version somehow before I do that? I saw links to different revisions on the BoneStock thread but there isn't a whole lot of explanation about how to use them.
Thanks,
-Greg
Yes No problems. I ran mb1 on bonestock.

Cool, do you know what the Baseband firmware does? Should I flash my firmware to VRBMF1?
I flashed mine mf1 because it really did help signal and data speeds. In my opinion it is worth it to flash the mf1

Did you flash it before flashing BoneStock or does it matter what the order is?
Modem has no relation to what ROM you are on. You can flash whichever you want first, doesn't matter.

Hi, please PM me MB1 and MF1.
Thanks,
Just have a quick question. I'm not really all up to date with how the radios work but the new I535VRUCML1 is abler to be flashed I'm on 1535vrbmf1. If I flash the new radio will I still be able to use 4.1.2 roms or only be able to use 4.3?
It would be wise to stay on the MF1 baseband until you decide you want a 4.3 TW ROM. I Was on an AOSP 4.4 ROM with MF1 and had no problems.

You cannot be on anything older than a 4.3 ROM with the ML1 radio... you WILL brick.
There is a ML1 radio available for download and all you have to do is flash it in recovery. But like I said, you must be on a 4.3-4.4 based ROM to flash it without bricking.

Ok great thank you. So if I try a 4.3 ROM and decide to go back to 4.1 or restore my ROM I should also flash the old mf1.

That's not true, at least not for all phones. I flashed the ML1 radio while running a 4.1.2 Touchwiz ROM and everything worked fine. My signal and data speeds seemed worse than on the MF1 radio though, so I flashed back.

I could be wrong but from what I've read, many people must be extra careful about what radios they flash and when... especially with ML1... for some reason.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Ml1 radio will work fine on any rom you run. If you took the OTA update, then you are unable to flash any radios since you have the entire ML1 firmware. The bootloader needs every part of the firmware in order to boot.
Since the flashable zip is only the radio for ML1, there's no danger of this doing any harm or bricking your phone. People have reported much better signal strength when using the ML1 radio with the MF1 firmware on 4.3 roms. I would stay on MF1 if using a 4.1.2 rom. I'm actually still using MB1.

You're mostly right, if you flash the entire ML1 firmware you will brick, and that will cause problems when you run a 4.1.2 rom. Flashing the modem only has no bad effects except for possibly decreased signal strength.

VRUCML1 should work a little better on AOSP than VRBMF1 so long as it includes commits like this
Hi all.I am a bit confused as I am reading some things that say your modem has to be updated to make this jump but the ROM threads themselves have the same old instructions with no mention of this.
Coming from Carbon 1.8/4.2.2.
Anything special that I need to do to jump into Kit Kat other than the normal procedures?(Backup,Wipe,Format,Flash?)
Thanks.

Ok funny I hadn't seen the Cyanogen Mod instructions since I haven't flashed that but clearly stating that VRBMF1 firmware needs to be flashed. Is that the case for any AOSP 4.4.2?If yes what is the correct sequence?

You should be OK with that flashing procedure, you're probably on the mf1 firmware already. You can check by looking at your baseband in settings
If you aren't, get it from here, you want the mf1 aio:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313
Sequence of flashing this doesn't matter.

That's what I needed to know thanks man.I am NOT on MF1 right now.
With the open source code being released for the Sptint Galaxy S3 ours can't be too far behind. So as a continuation of my Touchwhiz ML1 thread I present the Touchwhiz 4.4 update discussion thread
The same rules apply to this thread as my last one. No fighting. Be nice and enjoy!
So a user in Invisiblek's firmware thread posted about Verizon's new pdf being uploaded. The pdf is blank as of this moment though. You can access it from here: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/system_update/galaxys3.html
Edit: It's TW 4.3 if you continue reading, @droidstyle posted a link to it on Samsung-Updates.

I added an edit to my post as well. Looks like the update mentioned in the firmware thread is already posted on Samsung-Updates but its for 4.3. Its VRUCNC1.
Edit: To clarify, the TW 4.3 VRUCNC1 tar is available for download off Samsung Updates. Might be an upcoming OTA, I guess?

The NC1 tar is 4.3 according to Samsung Updates.
This thread is still relevant though cuz the Sprint S3 is getting KitKat so (potentially) we're not far off.

pretty sure the nc1 build is gonna be official, gonna post a way to keep root for locked users and for unlocked users
Just so everyone is aware you CAN odin back to VRUCML1 after flashing the VRUCNC1 tar file. Ill post this in the other discussion thread just to make sure it is seen by anyone who might need to revert.
What changes does the new tar file bring? My bro has the 4.3 stock not rooted. So if this gives a better function that would be good news.

Probably answered elsewhere but i couldn't find it.
I have found an zip installer that could be used to install the modem though CWM for an older version. Is there such a think for the newest version?
Thanks,

I don't believe there is a separate modem file for NC1 yet. At least not one I have seen.
Has there been any new developments with extracting the modem from this firmware? I'm running CM11 on the ML1 modem and I've had 4g connection issues. The release info for the NC1 says it improves connection issues so of like to try it.
