Baseband update - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Just have a quick question. I'm not really all up to date with how the radios work but the new I535VRUCML1 is abler to be flashed I'm on 1535vrbmf1. If I flash the new radio will I still be able to use 4.1.2 roms or only be able to use 4.3?

It would be wise to stay on the MF1 baseband until you decide you want a 4.3 TW ROM. I Was on an AOSP 4.4 ROM with MF1 and had no problems.

You cannot be on anything older than a 4.3 ROM with the ML1 radio... you WILL brick.
There is a ML1 radio available for download and all you have to do is flash it in recovery. But like I said, you must be on a 4.3-4.4 based ROM to flash it without bricking.

Ok great thank you. So if I try a 4.3 ROM and decide to go back to 4.1 or restore my ROM I should also flash the old mf1.

That's not true, at least not for all phones. I flashed the ML1 radio while running a 4.1.2 Touchwiz ROM and everything worked fine. My signal and data speeds seemed worse than on the MF1 radio though, so I flashed back.

Correct.
Here's the link for ML1:

I could be wrong but from what I've read, many people must be extra careful about what radios they flash and when... especially with ML1... for some reason.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Ml1 radio will work fine on any rom you run. If you took the OTA update, then you are unable to flash any radios since you have the entire ML1 firmware. The bootloader needs every part of the firmware in order to boot.
Since the flashable zip is only the radio for ML1, there's no danger of this doing any harm or bricking your phone. People have reported much better signal strength when using the ML1 radio with the MF1 firmware on 4.3 roms. I would stay on MF1 if using a 4.1.2 rom. I'm actually still using MB1.

You're mostly right, if you flash the entire ML1 firmware you will brick, and that will cause problems when you run a 4.1.2 rom. Flashing the modem only has no bad effects except for possibly decreased signal strength.

Do you think ML1 would be any better for me than MR1 on an AOSP 4.4 ROM?

VRUCML1 should work a little better on AOSP than VRBMF1 so long as it includes commits like this

CleanROM recommended add-ons, what are they?

Recommend add-ons by Beanstown106
I535VRBMB1 Modem can be found HERE!
I535VRBMB1 RPM can be found HERE!
^^^ What are these? They're the "recommended add-ons" by JellyBeans at the bottom of the CleanROM post. Anyone know what these are. Is this a radio and something else?
Just curious, if I should flash these or not.
newest modem & radio/
flash them in ^this order////
The VRBMB1 modem and rpm were included Verizon's OTA update from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. From what I've read, most people have experienced better data reception after flashing these, but some think it made things worse. I've flashed them and don't notice any difference in data, but possibly better GPS reception.

You should. If you go into Settings / About Phone, and the Baseband version (I think that's the modem) should say I535VRBMB1.

Where can you get the newest radio then? I've flashed the newest modem from goo.im or some website like it, I forgot. But I never saw anything about getting the radio.... Was it kinda a package deal?

When I first got my S3 for Christmas, I immediately upgraded it to 4.1.2 and then rooted about a week later and installed CleanROM a day or two later! As of right now I'm running JellyBeans 13, but when I check the baseband version it says VRBLK3....should I update the modem and radio to the newest one? I'm always the first one to say if it ain't broke then don't fix it....are there any real benefits? Everything works great for me....Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, etc...

Where to find/get original firmware/modem...

I was thinking of flashing this new AIO firmware (https://plus.google.com/u/0/104277415207525128383/posts/iAVpVPYqMtM) but I would like to be able to revert back to what I am currently using if something goes awry. How do I find out what I am running or where can I get firmwares?

Been running that update for a day and a half and I have had 0 issues. I didn't have any reboots before, just wanted to be on the latest.
And I can't confirm 100% but I feel my battery is lasting a tad bit longer and I have slightly better signal.

Yes... he is on the same radio as in all the roms... but if you read the post, there was an issue and it was causing the random reboots. The download link in the post fixes the reboot issue. It seems that the code is very old and everyone, if your random rebooting or not, should update. Like I said, I feel I have better service and better battery.

[Q] If I have VRBMB1 can I flash a rom that is VRBMF1?

Sorry, I'm a total noob. I don't really understand how the "Baseband Version" factors into the ROM/phone operation. Can someone explain it? I have a pretty good understanding of computers but when it comes to the phone it seems very black-boxy -- I'm still learning. My underlying question is:
The BoneStock ROM says: "BoneStock v3.0 (VRBMF1) 6/23/13", my phone currently has VRBMB1. Can I flash the BoneStock ROM on my phone or do I need to upgrade the Baseband Version somehow before I do that? I saw links to different revisions on the BoneStock thread but there isn't a whole lot of explanation about how to use them.
Thanks,
-Greg

Did you flash it before flashing BoneStock or does it matter what the order is?
Modem has no relation to what ROM you are on. You can flash whichever you want first, doesn't matter.

Ok, well if it worked then it's not like it's completely busted.
Try to odin completely back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974114
This will ensure everything is perfectly stock, flash the mb1 image and then ota to mf1 and reroot, then once everything is on the mf1 base, only flash TW roms based on the mf1 base or use AOSP roms.

I aslo have camera errors today after flashing the Synergy ROM (r484). I'm set on this ROM because it is the only one I've found that will
Support other cell carriers on a Verizon SCH-I535 and I need to switch carriers in a couple of days. Some one in a developer thread said that it should get the older firmware flashed to fix the camera or else I could choose to change the kernal. My firmware is I535VRBMF1 and what was sugested was MB1 firmware. I have several questions. What would I risk or loose by going to the older firmware? How do I get it and flash it (I have Odin but haven't used it yet). The Kernal came with Synergy ROM and is refered to as Ziggy's.

You don't stand to lose anything except possibly data connection and speed, and signal strength and quality. You can find the all in one (AIO) zips from Invisiblek's thread, just flash VRBMB1 aio in recovery. Invisiblek does not make any of these that are Odin flashable for JB and beyond.

I was going to pose the same question.. Ironically I'm on Hyperdrive RLS 16 also and am either going to the last carbon nightly or maybe something 4.4 ?
My question was do I need to flash the MF1 firmware, but I guess not ?
I loved carbon when I used it before ( last was v 1.7 stable ) but had to flash to stock/TW base to flash my phone to PagePlus and TW is waaaay to clunky for me I can't stand it anymore !!
Edit: Would the new PhilZ work for a KitKat rom ? the new official one ?

Clean flashing is recommended if you don't want to have any issues.
But you're free to dirty flash over an existing nightly if you don't want to clean flash. However, any issues you get are your own issues and should not be reported in the Gummy thread.
