Where to find/get original firmware/modem... - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I was thinking of flashing this new AIO firmware (https://plus.google.com/u/0/104277415207525128383/posts/iAVpVPYqMtM) but I would like to be able to revert back to what I am currently using if something goes awry. How do I find out what I am running or where can I get firmwares?

Been running that update for a day and a half and I have had 0 issues. I didn't have any reboots before, just wanted to be on the latest.
And I can't confirm 100% but I feel my battery is lasting a tad bit longer and I have slightly better signal.

Settings/About Phone/Baseband tells you your current modem. Baseband = modem = radio.
Invisiblek has a full list of modems in the VZW GSIII forums on Rootzwiki.

Yes... he is on the same radio as in all the roms... but if you read the post, there was an issue and it was causing the random reboots. The download link in the post fixes the reboot issue. It seems that the code is very old and everyone, if your random rebooting or not, should update. Like I said, I feel I have better service and better battery.

New build/baseband number for the VZW S3

I had my S3 replaced today becuase the power/lock button broke. When the vzw rep. brought out my replacement device it had a sticker on the phone that said updated. After activating and checking the building number I can confirm that VZW is updating their stock to a newer version. My current build number is I535VRALG1 and baseband is I535VRLG1. Does any one know if I can flash the previous version in Odin. I am afraid that they might have done this to block our current root method. This is the first I have heard about this current build.
Wanna help us out on IRC?
We need to see if you can root and what your system dump looks like.
any idea on what the update is?
I am heading to school right now and I do not get out until 11 o'clock eastern time. When I get home tonight I'll join the irc if somebody can be kind enough to let me know what channel it is.
Edit:
I see the channels in LLstarks sig I will join in tonight when I get back from school

Anymore info on this? I just had a phone shipped out on Monday, received today. Same little UPDATED sticker on the phone and box.
It would be nice to get some new radios. Would they be flashable with a locked bootlader?

Nope. Having a locked bootloader means we can't flash radios, kernels, or change boot animations ONLY roms.

How would we update this then? Stock recovery? Shouldn't make a difference if we've overwritten the recovery.img, since the only thing that seems checked is that the boot.img is signed.

Radios are unknown at the moment (most likely can flash update no problem, not sure about flashing downgrade). However boot animations ARE part of the rom, just FYI. Also kernels are flashable as well, just has to be done through a workaround method.
It probably takes away the search the whole phone function of S-Voice and some other small updates.

Ahh, touche. I was under the impression that flashing kernels was a proof of concept still not a done deal. Also, I wrote boot animation but was thinking splash screen regardless you are right.
Was just about to post the same thing actually. I just had my phone exchanged today and got the UPDATED sticker on it. Haven't tried to root it yet, though. Was going to wait a while to see if this topic came up/new update gets rooted. I really don't want to mess with it either. Just popped in to say that I got the same updated phone.
My co-worker received his phone yesterday and wanted me to root it for him, but it showed "updated" as well - new build/baseband number. To be safe I decided to hold off on rooting till we get some sort of confirmation.

Well I was going to flash the rooted image last night but fell asleep while waiting for my phone to charge. I get home a little earlier tonight so I will try flashing and see what happens. According to invisiblek I should be able to just factory reset if flashing in Odin fails. I just don't wanna Bork my phone. I also want root though....lol

CleanROM recommended add-ons, what are they?

Recommend add-ons by Beanstown106
I535VRBMB1 Modem can be found HERE!
I535VRBMB1 RPM can be found HERE!
^^^ What are these? They're the "recommended add-ons" by JellyBeans at the bottom of the CleanROM post. Anyone know what these are. Is this a radio and something else?
Just curious, if I should flash these or not.
newest modem & radio/
flash them in ^this order////
The VRBMB1 modem and rpm were included Verizon's OTA update from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. From what I've read, most people have experienced better data reception after flashing these, but some think it made things worse. I've flashed them and don't notice any difference in data, but possibly better GPS reception.

When I first got my S3 for Christmas, I immediately upgraded it to 4.1.2 and then rooted about a week later and installed CleanROM a day or two later! As of right now I'm running JellyBeans 13, but when I check the baseband version it says VRBLK3....should I update the modem and radio to the newest one? I'm always the first one to say if it ain't broke then don't fix it....are there any real benefits? Everything works great for me....Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, etc...

[Q] If I have VRBMB1 can I flash a rom that is VRBMF1?

Sorry, I'm a total noob. I don't really understand how the "Baseband Version" factors into the ROM/phone operation. Can someone explain it? I have a pretty good understanding of computers but when it comes to the phone it seems very black-boxy -- I'm still learning. My underlying question is:
The BoneStock ROM says: "BoneStock v3.0 (VRBMF1) 6/23/13", my phone currently has VRBMB1. Can I flash the BoneStock ROM on my phone or do I need to upgrade the Baseband Version somehow before I do that? I saw links to different revisions on the BoneStock thread but there isn't a whole lot of explanation about how to use them.
Thanks,
-Greg

Did you flash it before flashing BoneStock or does it matter what the order is?
Modem has no relation to what ROM you are on. You can flash whichever you want first, doesn't matter.

Baseband update

Just have a quick question. I'm not really all up to date with how the radios work but the new I535VRUCML1 is abler to be flashed I'm on 1535vrbmf1. If I flash the new radio will I still be able to use 4.1.2 roms or only be able to use 4.3?
It would be wise to stay on the MF1 baseband until you decide you want a 4.3 TW ROM. I Was on an AOSP 4.4 ROM with MF1 and had no problems.

You cannot be on anything older than a 4.3 ROM with the ML1 radio... you WILL brick.
There is a ML1 radio available for download and all you have to do is flash it in recovery. But like I said, you must be on a 4.3-4.4 based ROM to flash it without bricking.

Ok great thank you. So if I try a 4.3 ROM and decide to go back to 4.1 or restore my ROM I should also flash the old mf1.

That's not true, at least not for all phones. I flashed the ML1 radio while running a 4.1.2 Touchwiz ROM and everything worked fine. My signal and data speeds seemed worse than on the MF1 radio though, so I flashed back.

I could be wrong but from what I've read, many people must be extra careful about what radios they flash and when... especially with ML1... for some reason.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Ml1 radio will work fine on any rom you run. If you took the OTA update, then you are unable to flash any radios since you have the entire ML1 firmware. The bootloader needs every part of the firmware in order to boot.
Since the flashable zip is only the radio for ML1, there's no danger of this doing any harm or bricking your phone. People have reported much better signal strength when using the ML1 radio with the MF1 firmware on 4.3 roms. I would stay on MF1 if using a 4.1.2 rom. I'm actually still using MB1.

You're mostly right, if you flash the entire ML1 firmware you will brick, and that will cause problems when you run a 4.1.2 rom. Flashing the modem only has no bad effects except for possibly decreased signal strength.

VRUCML1 should work a little better on AOSP than VRBMF1 so long as it includes commits like this

4G showing full bars...performs at very low speeds

Try updating your radio. Also it's your dBm and asu that matters not how many bars you have. What's your dBm and asu when you have low speed? You can find out in About phone/status. I say a dBm around 85-90 is average. Anything over 100 is not good. 75 dBm is common for big cities near towers. Your asu is the amount of interference between you and the tower. The higher this # the better.
I know I got a bit technical there but I want to educate users how to properly read signal strength and not rely on misleading signal bars.

ML1 is actually the latest. Mf1 should work though. That's the one I use. Go to about phone/status. Do you show an IMEI # and MEID #? If it says 0 or is blank that if a problem. does it say roaming or disconnected for network status.
Just a quick warning. If you decide to go ML1 that's a 4.3 radio. Be absolutely sure that you are flashing the radio only and not the full firmware package. If you flash the full firmware (aka all-in-one packages) You will brick and be stuck with a locked bootloader forever.

But if that's too much trouble just tell me if you have an IMEI # MEID # and ICCID #. As long as none of these are 0's you are OK.

Only IMEI # is showing up nothing else. I am using NET10. as my carrier. Technically this phone is not supposed to work with net 10. Is there a dialer code I can put to get the information you want? The phone works fine I can make calls, text, have data, connect to Wi-Fi, all using straight talks apn's. I used to manually put net 10's apn's but after a couple of days would lose my contacts and data. It drove me crazy for months. I'm kind of new at all this so thank you for your patience.

Make sure you are in fact on 4.3. If you are you do not need to flash the firmware technically. Just the radio. You can flash the ML1 firmware If you couldn't find just the radio as the radio is included in a firmware package. There's nothing wrong with that ONLY IF YOU ARE ALREADY ON 4.3
But I uploaded the ML1 radio by itself in my post above this one. Just flash in recovery and you are good to go. Remember you can flash just the radio when on ANY Android version. What you do not what to do is flash 4.3 FIRMWARE on a 4.4 custom ROM or anything that's not based on the 4.3 Stock ROM. You will brick.

That's correct. Your radio will never change unless you flash a different radio (or if you flash another firmware which you want to avoid unless you want to lose your unlocked bootloader forever). Radio never changes on a ROM or Kernel change.
