Remember track for each folder - MX Player

I noticed that MX Player remembers which track was played last, but what about remembering which audio/video track was played last in each folder? That would be a great feature!

Amazing. That's it!

This feature is great but is it possible to also jump in the tracks list to that position? When I select the last media for a specific folder it plays that track but when I get back to the list, it shows tracks from the top instead of the selected track. With a list of dozens of tracks a lot of finger work is necessary to get down to the current track
Pressing twice to go back to the track list in unnecessary. One is enough.
Thanks!

Can't you use that Play button that shows up at the top of the list, and it would play the last file in the current folder?

But when you have hundreds of podcasts in a folder and want to play a track near the one being played you have to scroll down a lot....

You have misunderstood.
It's already implemented.
But,There is no new buttons. Only Resume button functionality has been changed. If you are in root of folder list where resume button will resume the last played media. But, If you are inside a folder, then it will resume the last played video in that particular folder.
Note:
Usually Resume button will be in the top right side above the list. On some lower end devices it can be accessed by pressing options/menu hardware button.

Thanks, but there is a lot of misunderstanding here. I know I can resume the last played track on every folder, but the track list is not updated with the position of that track. It still shows the first track on top.
As an example, if the track being played is the 100th, when I go the track list, it shows the list from the begining instead of showing the position where track 100 is.

What do you mean by track list?
Are you talking about video list?
By default Video list will be always showed in alphabetical order. It won't directly scroll down to show the last played video. It's just a video library.
Right now there is no playlist like options to list the videos in que. If it's implemented, it has to be auto scrolled to the last played file in the que when the playlist is resumed.
@bleu8888
Take a look at this feature request.

> " It won't directly scroll down to show the last played video."
This is what he's requesting; he's asking if when a folder is opened, that the folder could auto-scroll to what MX remembers was the last video played in the folder, instead of defaulting the folder view to the first entry.

You can use 'play last video' button on the menu bar.
Also you can check video file name by long clicking this button.

I did not know about the long-click part.

Since Android 4.1, if you long press any button, a tooltip will be displayed describing feature of the button.
It is video file name for 'last played video'.

Thanks but my problem still remains. The track/video list doesn't jump to the position of the file currently being played. It still shows first track/video at the top. Every player that I know of shows current track in the list.

Would have thought that would need a major redesign of the app. You can find out a video's name by opening it, pressing stop, then selecting the right menu button and finally properties.

ohh... that's a plenty of work. and uncomfortable... takes a lot of time...
I've noticed on my friend's N900 that there are names under the thumbnails in video gallery and found it VERY good, especially if you have a lot of trailers, movies, music videos... never know where's the video you're lookin' for, unless you have a name of video written...

[Q] Automatic refresh on MXPlayer

Hi,
I use MX on a Minix 8HPlus, to play videos on big screen. I use FTPDroid to push and delete videos on the device. Unfortunately there is no option in MX Player to refresh*automatically the folder. The result: MX keep in its memories the previous videos list and try to read files already deleted. Regularly I have errors «*impossible to read this video*» .
Moreover I’ve noted that «*random mode*» is not really random. I have around 90 videos and it seems there is around 10 videos with are played frequently…
1) Could it be possible to add an option in order to refresh automatically the folder every minutes/seconds?
2) Can you tell me if there is an option to "lock" folder that contains videos?I would like MX play videos in specific folders. Currently, MX play them all.
Thanks for your feedback.
Regards.

I'm not sure that this can be done in a sane way that doesn't also unnecessarily keep the CPU awake.. Also I believe @bleu8888 might be considering a file system event detection feature, that will have MX detect file system events, but I'm not sure if he still thinks this is feasible..
Also, should hit the manual refresh button on the video list as well.

I assume by random, you mean shuffle. Have you tried selecting all the videos in the folder first and then selecting Play on the selected videos, then choosing shuffle in the playback menu?

Many thanks for you reply.
1)Power consumption is not a problem for me because the minix is always connected to 220v. I understand my case is specific… I’ve tried to create an action with Tasker but it not works. Manual action is required.
2) Yes, I’ve tried this method but it’s not efficient at 100%. I have to play DIFFERENT videos each month. In order to do that easily, I’ve created several folders named «*september*» «*october 2015*» «*november*» etc.. In those folders I put videos regularly. If we are in september, I would like MX play only «*september*» videos but actually is not the case.
With your method, that means each month I have to specify which folder to scan but I’m not in office every days…
3) Yes, I’ve meant «*shuffle*». sorry for my english. I’ll will try your method and give a feedback here.
Thanks!!!

I believe this should be possible with Tasker and the MX API, give it a try: https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/api
Possibly the video_list extra.

Hi,
quick feedback about your solutions. I've cannot succeed to use this api. I'm really a newbie with this kind of softaware.
I've selected only the videos I l ike to play and it seems that video are played more randomly. However it's an impression. I can't prove this with stats, facts.
I've found an app which can scan and update libraries on Android. I'll test it.
Xposed Media Scanner Optimizer v. 1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-xposed-media-scanner-optimizer-t2942609
Edit 2: After used Media Scanner I can't see a difference. I have the impression that Android system refresh the library (I can see it in the folder in Mx interface) but MX player can't see it: I still have "unable to read this video" even if the video is still not in the folder...
It seems that MX keep in memories the last file scanned and try to read them.
For random mode, its an impression but it play the same file regurlarly...

File update: In fact, MX Player is monitoring directories to make any changes updated immediately. But directory monitoring API is broken on Android 6 and reported to Android team as an Android bug.
Shuffle: Randomness would be improved on latest nightly build (26-Jan build) since random function is changed to one with cryptographic level. Nightly build can be found on https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/translation/test-build
Lock folder: Not supported. I think there might be 3rd party apps having this feature.
Many thanks for your update.
Édit : I'm not using mx on 6.0 but 5.1 or 4.4
I'm using the beta version (Build date: 25-JAN-2016) and I cannot see improvement on random mode. I have around 120 videos (around 4min) and there is one which have been played twice at 15 min interval.
Can you tell me if there is a way to have a list of all files played, a log ? I feel that random is not really efficient. Always the same videos coming back (I have around 150 files)

[Feature Request] Minor requests for options to improve resuming videos

Option to show the resume position out of the video duration
An option in View -> Fields (or by default) to toggle an additional text field that shows the time the video will resume at, as well as possibly a progress bar at the bottom of the thumbnail that illustrates how much of the video has been watched. As reference, DicePlayer has this feature and for how relatively straightforward it is, it is very helpful.
Option/change to "finish watching" the current video when skipping to next
An option in Settings -> Player that either toggles between the current behavior and automatically completing the current video when skipping to next, or possibly a slider that automatically "finishes" the video if the user skips to next with the seek position at least 0-100% of the total duration. Skipping to the next video currently marks the current position in the video to resume at later, which has its uses but it poses a small, continuous inconvenience when used for entertainment in conjunction with always resuming. I typically don't even use the Next button anymore, instead manually seeking to the end of the video to mark it finished and reset if viewed again before continuing to the next video.
Option/change to more aggressively save resume positions
This may not affect others, but I have noticed that if the app is closed unexpectedly or perhaps if the device is shut down, the current resume position will remain the same and only updates when the video is paused or exited from within the app itself. While this doesn't occur often, it is still fairly inconvenient (especially for long videos, which would be annoying for things like podcasts or audiobooks). Either as a universal or optional change, update the resume position regularly (optional and/or longer intervals if it poses a performance/IO issue) as well as when the user "properly" pauses/exits the video.
I've used MX Player Pro quite a lot now, so I appreciate the work put into it. These suggestions are in response to some pet peeves I've had with resuming videos and would love to see any and all of the above implemented! Thanks!
I must thank you for this helpful post, let me try the instruction posted above!

Next/Prev buttons and seek not working since phone upgrade

I love this app, it's been my standard media player since my first Android phone.
I upgraded from the Galaxy S5 to the S7, and the player isn't working quite the same now.
The next/previous buttons used to load the next/previous file in the current folder, now next does nothing and previous only returns to the start of the current file.
The seek gesture, as I used it to seek ack and forth the video image would update while seeking so I knew where I was. Now it only updates after I lift my finger off the screen and stop seeking.
I assume there are settings I've missed for this, but I can't find them. Any advice is appreciated.

Isn't that the same setting that means when a video ends the next video starts automatically?
On my previous phone, the next/prev buttons loaded the bext/prev file, but when I finished a video it would return to the list and not automatically play the next vid.

Actually when back to list enabled, previous /next button won't change the track. I have already asked the developer to enable previous / next even if back to list is enabled.
Hopefully next update will fix the issue.

Hi
I use MX Player on my Galaxy S4 (i9505) with LineageOS 14.1
For me, the previous/next button does not work anymore.
Settings > Player & "disable back to list" has NOT solved the problem.
Whether enabled or disabled.
I use MX Player synonymous on my other phone and have importet these settings to my Galaxy S4.
This also has not solved my problem.

First one is not a bug at all. In recent version of Samsung file manger & Gallery it uses content scheme instead of file scheme. For example it sends some odd path to MX Player (like Content://[email protected]/external/video/12345)
You can confirm it by opening the properties while playing the video. In this case MX Player won't aware the actual location of the file. So, it's almost impossible to use next/previous as the content folder is unknown to the app.
For the second one, Goto Settings >> Player and enable Preview while Seeking. That's all.
"You can confirm it by opening the properties while playing the video. "
Thanks for this note.
The previous/next track button works again. :good:

Mx Player Pro Tip for delete files

Hi guys, a question (i'm using mx player on nvidia shield).
When i have a list of files in a folder (opened whit mx player), if i select one (or more file) by keeping the "round" button of remote pressed, then usually i could jump to the garbage icon pressing on the bottom left of the round button. With the last update, i can't. You know how to avoid scrolling the whole list?
Thanks

We regret the inconveniences caused. As MX Player now features both list and grid view, the right and left keys are now mainly used for the navigation purchase. However, We will highlight this with our relevant team and work on the possible improvements in this.
