[Q] Music problems, Flashlight gesture not working... - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have some problems with the OPO nothing big:
Connection to a headphone often dont work, it plays but i cant here it.
Flashlight gesture ON is often not working, i think it just dont wake ups the phone, OFF works fine.
Using: ParanoidAndroid4.5B1
Anybody has the same problems? My phone is undervolted to -87mV, but i dont think thats the problem.

Is your headphone... happen to be a headset? (with a microphone)?
The flashlight gesture on/off is a ROM problem (or maybe its just you) you have to ask in your respective ROM thread to be sure.
What kernel are you using?

I had a similar problem when it comes to headsets. Try this, plug in the headphone jack very slowly until you hear a "static" pop when you hear it, leave it there for a couple seconds and then plug the jack fully in. When you hear the static pop, 1-2 seconds later it should start playing the music.
I prefer Franco Kernel but currently I'm testing AK Kernel as Franco hasn't been updated for awhile so I'm going around testing what other kernels have to offer. AK kernel seems to have this problem resolved, give that kernel a try and see if your headphone problem still occurs.
Well I don't use PA so I can't really help you with that. Its most likely a ROM problem if the gestures are enabled.

I heard of someone whos phone often got hot in his pocket, because the flashlight was activated by this gesture in his pocket. Maybe they tried to fix this and this is a bug..?

They fixed this in the 30O OTA. They've made it so it uses a proximity sensor so if its blocked, gestures are disabled.

It works with AK? .... yeah AK you kind of need a tweaking app, their default settings aren't optimized. It still has mpdecision on even though intelliplug is in the kernel. Thats one thing I like about Franco Kernel, it doesn't have as many customizations for the kernel but the default settings are very optimized so it works good out of the box. For AK, I have to customize everything to my liking including intelliplug, governors, etc.

Odd... Ak fixed my audio problem.

I'm having a similar problem, no audio through headphones.
I'm on PA and AK.
I thought it was to do with PA so posted my issue there, but now I think it may be the kernel.
Also I get audio output at first it goes away when I get a notification(audio), but that too is very random, some notifications don't affect it some do.
Only a reboot fixes it temporarily, till another notification triggers the issue

[Kernel]A701 JB 4.1.1 CPU/GPU UV [22-11-13]

TrollSlayer version 3 Kernel
Ok folks, got a kernel for our A701 stock JB 4.1.1 and Evil Alex Purgatory
This is NOT for CM/AOKP/PA/ etc builds.
Keep in mind, I am not a kernel developer, and this is my first attempt. So it's pretty basic right now. I've been running it for a couple weeks, and it seems to be pretty stable.
First of all Credits and Thanks @civato - For being a wealth of info and a good Mate @sgt. meow - Govs & Schedulers and all his help @scrosler - For Help in compiling @faux123 - Dynamic Fsync & UV @verboth - Original Speedo Fake
The Kernel
Based on Acer JB 4.1.1 source
Compiled with Google toolchain
Features
CPU OC to 1500Mhz (on by default)
GPU OC to 520Mhz (on by default)
CPU UV tables
Dynamic fsync control (on by default)
Governors
lulzactive
lagfree
smartass2
pegasusq
Schedulers
row
sio
Gaming fix by faux123
RNDIS (not tested)
Cifs support
NTFS support currently via Stickmount app.
Dynamic fsync via Trickster app. I advise Trickster for settings.
Known issues:
OC apps not correctly reporting 1500Mhz on "ramp-up", but benchmarks report normal OC.
UV: I advise dropping voltage by 50mv at first, then by 25mv until you find the best voltage for your CPU.
Install: Flash through CWM. No need to do wipes, the install will do it.

Changelog
22/11/2013- Version 3 initial release
Notes
Dynamic Fsync
This is a goodie by faux123, so all credits go to him for creating this unique feature !
Many kernels just disable synchronous writes to file to speed up system. While this works neatly, it is also dangerous as processes believe that file writes are actually sync'ed to disk (or mmc media in our case) while this is not yet true !
The gain is a noticably smoother user experience, but the risk of doing so is to have a corrupted filesystem if the device crashes, user pulls battery, battery fully depleats ... so that the device is turned off unexpectedly.
To allow for the benefit, but to minimize the risk, faux123 created dynamic fsync, which while the screen is on, will defer file sync temporarily, but when screen gets turned off, a flush is called to synchronize all outstanding writes keeping your data safe.
Now it's up to you to either use this unique feature, at default it is enabled = Better performance
If you turn it off = writes will be done synchronously, which is safer but also slower..

Things to do for next version
Fix NTFS issue - probably fuse/ or Acer may have left debug code

Good to see a (new) kernel for A701. But does this also work on A700 as well?
And a lil off topic: can anyone suggest me a good app to manage cpu/gpu?
Installed and.. awesome! :good:
Sweet. Someone try it on the 700! I won't get the chance on mine until tomorrow!

Trickster Mod seems to work well for me. If you're not going to turn off fsync, then you can use SetCpu. Trickster is a strange interface, and sometimes I forget to save my settings.
As with working on the A700, it might. Don't have a 700 so really can't tell you.

Flashed it just now and works really well. Feels snappier :good:

Considering Purgatory runs fine on the 700, I would say it "might" run on stock 700. But I see you are running Iconian. Vorbeth isn't around anymore, for a long time, but looking as his git, I saw he was using some CM code, which tells me Iconian may be a "hybrid" rom. If you get boot-loop, probably just flash his kernel package.
Actually never got around to changing my signature. Been running your E.A.P for most of a month now. I'll try the kernel over the weekend.

Will look at the defconfigs and see if I can turn off the annoying "no sim card" function as it seems a few people use EAP on the 700. Would mean a new kernel build though.

Thanks Mate! You helped!
But got an issue that has happened to every Acer kernel source since the A500 days. NTFS breaks every time a kernel compiles using Acer source. Options for NTFS file system set to yes, or module in defconfig. Doesn't matter. When compiled, NTFS drives won't mount. Only option is Stick Mount. Stock kernels from Acer are fine.
On the Sammy forums, there was some info about the same issue (similar). Sammy's dev team reply was they left several DEBUG options on in defconfig. You ever heard of that? I've noticed a couple of the same are still set in the picasso_mf_defconfig.
If you can flash the stock kernel and grab the config.gz from /proc/ (I know you've probably tried this) try comparing both configs(the one in the stock kernel with the one you use).

Hey, you're talking to MD! I can flash "anything"!
Good idea and thanks! This will allow to see what configuration Acer uses when "they" compile.(actually forgot about proc/config.gz) must be getting old........
Thanks, I'll definitely try this on my a700. Will report back over a couple of days.
First I've to wait for my third charger
Hi,
I test the kernel for several days on my A700. In everyday life, there is no problem.
But when I play a video with the BSPlayer via HDMI to the TV, there is strong interference. It formed in intervals disorders.
The image is displayed in many thin horizontal stripes and it comes to short interruptions, the tone shifted more and more.
To continue to use the tablet helps, just restart. It seems to be due to the overclocking of the GPU.
With the stock kernel from your Rom is everything OK again.
I hope you understand what I mean and it helps in the development.
best regards
JoSch

[Q] Slide2wake kernel drain free

Hey there,
i like a lot slide2wake and slide2lock, i really think it is a breakthrough feature!:victory:
The only way i can enable this feature is through Touch Control.
I've tried different kernels, but only Franco's r32 has been working with Touch Control.
When i enable the mod, the battery drains in half a day,
withouth the mod can last a day and a half. :crying:
Is there any kernel who work this mod without the huge drain?
Or is there another configuration different from Touch Control which works better?
I'm on paranoid android beta 4 custom ROM.
Thanks!

Many kernels have slide2wake etc. TouchControl is a kernel module but kernels that advertise this feature should not need the module.
You'll have to test them all for yourself. Obviously the digitiser has to be powered to accept touch input when teh screen is off so there will always be SOME drain.

Day and a half of battery is long for me.
I suggest downloading a kernel and tweaking the CPU clock and voltage to achieve more battery life. Chaos kernel comes to mind but I am biased because that is what I run.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551441

Some drain is acceptable, driking battery not.
The kernel mod has been implemented (if i am not wrong) to better handle what and where the phone has to be awake than a simple app, i thought it could last better than what happened to me.
Anybody experiencing a better battery lasting with this mod enabled?
Any suggestion on the best kernel to try?
Otherwise i will test them with patience and report here

That is not my understanding. My understanding is it is an external module for custom kernels. However if jernel already has function built in, touchcontrol not necessary. The Kernels specific apps have controls to cover it.
There is no BEST kernel. Read each thread of Kernels to see if it has the feature and test it yourself.
Although if Franco kernel has slide2wake etc built in, you should test that first WITHOUT touch control.

Okkei, i've been doing my homeworks after rootSu suggestions.
I found a somehow related question about franco's kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593181
It looks like you need to use a different kernel based on franco to use slide2wake.
So i tried one of the links, the linaro kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47459608
Following the instructions i created the file for the configuration and i have enabled the mod without using the touch control app.
I'll try this kernel and mod for a couple of days to see how it goes, hoping that this will make some difference.
By the way i bought franco's app which is pretty cool to set up a better configuration for any option, audio, screen and performance,
and it also works with linaro.

[Q] Does anyone know what this weird sound, at ~25s, when listening to music is?

http://youtu.be/6XZSef6fuKU?t=21s
Could this be a hardware issue and worth RMAing? I'm running Franco Kernel r32 at the moment and someone said it could be that so I'm going to try going back to stock for a while to see if that solves the problem. Aside from that though, does anyone know what the problem could be?
edit: Forgot to mention, this isn't my video. The video was just to show you what the sound is. It happens to me without a bug report being created.
This is not an issue.
Just before it happens you pressed create bug report.
That usually takes a few seconds to create the report which is when you are hearing the distortion.
A bug report only usually happens when something misbehaves.
It creates a log of what was happening at the time and is quite an intensive task for the few seconds it takes.
It's likely that the CPU was unable to keep playback smooth while it was performing the log.
If it only happens when creating the log and no other times then do not worry about it.
Just for your piece of mind. I just tried the exact same thing.
Playing music.
Take bug report.
3 distortions happened during the time it was collecting.
Once complete no problems.
So I have the exact same behavior as you. And I'm not even slightly concerned that there is a problem

On top of that, it may be related to a power saving setting on the custom kernel. Try changing governors/ increasing CPU frequency....
and playing around with the kernel features. The kernel is hot supplying enough CPU power to handle the bug-report process (or any other heavy process) + the music app at the same time.

I'm skeptical about messing around with the kernel since I have no idea what anything means, nor what they do. I just knew that FKU was a set and forget kernel so that seemed like the best option for me. As of now, I'm running stock and seeing if the problem happens again so we'll see. Hopefully it doesn't.

It may be ok now that you are stock..
Now that you are into flashing kernels, you first need to how they work, at least understand what the settings are for.
learn here about governors http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817
Just raise the minimum CPU frequency up by one step if it bothers you.
It's 100% not a problem with the phone.
Is your screen on or off when it happens.
The best explanation I can think of is;
Your phone has a quad core 2.3 GHz processor.
Most of the time it is running at 1 core 0.3ghz in order to save power.
If something happens while your listening to music. Say an email starts coming through.
Your phone takes a small amount of time increasing the speed of your processor to better handle the tasks it's performing.
It looks like during that small amount of time it can't handle and the music skips.
Then as the speed increases it continues playback.
Again this is likely only noticeable on francos with the settings you have for the kernel.

The custom kernel is at fault. It's due to the minimum freq. being too low. Either raise the min frequency or switch back to the stock kernel. I have yet to experience this on my stock Nexus 5.

[Q] Alternate Kernel for CM11 M8

I am using the CM11 M8 on my Nexus 5. What Kernels are compatible with it? I have been a big fan of CodeBlue and ElementalX but I am not sure if either of these work with CM11.
All CAF Kernels work with CM11. ElementalX works with cm. It has both AOSP and a CAF version. You need to flash the CAF one!

The min frequency isn't stuck. When you touch the screen, flar2 has set the freq going up to around 1200mhz so that there isn't any lag. If it's indeed getting stuck for you, you must have installed a kernel tweaker app which is causing this. Been using ElementalX since ages without a hitch.

Not sure about the kernel in question, but I've absolutely seen SlimKat's kernel do that. No kernel tweaker app, just system monitor.
It seems minor hardware variations can cause only certain people to have issues with certain kernels. Or if there is an issue in the code, can be exacerbated by hardware variations.

Oh I see. I've seen quite a few people who complain about this frequency thing in the ElementalX thread as well and most of them had a tweaker installed so I thought it's an end user's error. You could be right though, not all phones are made the same.
I'm using Latest Chaos nightly. Performance/Battery life is amazing to my usage, so i'm recommending you to give it a chance. ElementalX is good too, but you should try them both for a day or two and then deside which one suits you best. You can grab it there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...-kernel-chaos-12-0-nxtweaks-app-13-0-t2551441
It's CAF kernel, so it's compatible with Cyanogenmod. Happy flashing
I'm on the latest CM11 nightly with chaos kernel stable 13.1 and I'm loving it. Performance is awesome and I'm right on track for a 5 hour screen on time with heavy usage.

I did remove the Browser, Apollo, and Liquid FIle Manager. I am tweaking with the sound level on the speaker headset so give me a heads up if it works. I've ran it all day and haven't came acrossed any errors or problems. It was a bit sluggish after i turned ART on but i rebooted and she is purring like a kitten

It's faster than the kernel i have in it?!? I was thinking it has ran faster than the stock liquidsmooth kernel and my battery life was actually quite good with the whole slutting up the social media scene and 10 hours of hardcore METAL playing of pandora at work.
