Is there a way to change keyboards without being put back in the default keyboard after a reboot?
Thanks
Hmm, SwiftKey sticks as my default keyboard. Try disabling/freezing the other keyboards that you have installed on your phone such as the AOSP keyboard etc.
Thanks so much but when I disable them somehow I only get to Google voice typing as the default, weird

Disable that too but yeah I'm not sure why its resetting everytime. Mines stick on swiftkey and I have the aosp keyboard still.
What ROM are you using?

Its a possibility that one of your Xposed modules could be causing this. I've known in the past that people are using Xposed modules causing certain menus in Settings to crash. Any of them relate to anything keyboard related?
Well... stock ROM is CM so its not too bad.
This us an ongoing problem for many Swiftkey users. They blame Android for the way paid apps are setup in the OS, but it's complete bs because other paid keyboards have no issues staying as the default. Anyway, my solution: switch to Swype, it's a much better keyboard anyway.

Thats odd. I've never experienced this problem with SwiftKey. I tried looking into Fleksy too, looks interesting and a lot faster but I'm just so familiar with the layout of SwiftKey plus... the one feature I really love from SwiftKey is having emojis in the predictions.

Google the title of this thread, you'll be bombarded with results. I've tried Swiftkey numerous times and the prediction just can't stand up to Swype at all.

Odd, I never had any problems with SwiftKey so shrug.. I'll stick with it. I really hope they do optimize up the app further though.
But yeah OP if you want to keep using SwiftKey just freeze all the other keyboards for the time being.

Yeah I've seen that. Swiftkey has been experiencing this problem since long before KitKat came around though, I created a ticket with them a couple of years ago, they completely ignore it though. It's very random though, as you know some people cop it and others don't.

Swype is a solid keyboard, but I just can't bring myself to swype. I'd rather throw the phone sideways and text in landscape. Although, most keyboards are easier to use on this 4.5" screen!
This is probably the best keyboard ever I bought it a long time ago it even works perfect on this old school motor backdrop

I have been using Swiftkey since the original. Used beta X loved it now that I'm using Swiftkey X I am having issues with it reseting everytime i restart my phone any ideas

I wanted to love this keyboard, and for the most part I do. However, I keep having this problem where it saves a period to the end of each word. Say, if I were to finish a sentence with the word "hotdog" I would type "hotdog." From then on, every time I type "hotdog" and hit the space key, it auto-corrects to "hotdog. " Does anyone else have this issue? Any ideas on disabling it? I've tried all of the different space function settings, but nothing fixes it. Otherwise, I would love this app.
I'm using the Gingerbread keyboard now with Infused V2B3, and it's working really well for me, but I think that without the aforementioned issue SwiftKey X would be at the top of my list.

Does this happen on every app? I ask this because some input methods used to have bugs on Google+.
Maybe you can try enabling and disabling 'Quick "."' in 'Advanced'?

I haven't noticed this at all. It took a bit to get it to work the way I would expect. My settings:
Typing style: precise
Spacebar will...: always insert a space
Quick ".": checked
All the rest are defaults
Received this email earlier today:
Email on HTC Thunderbolt Completed
We have just released an update (v. 2.0.5.120) that should fix this issue for you! Please check the market in a couple of hours by which time the update should be available
Sarah Reynolds
Frontline Support Lead, SwiftKey
The update (Version 2.0.5.120) is now available on the Market AND NOW on Amazon. If you got this on Amazon before yesterday, be very careful that you don't 'upgrade' to the older, white version. If you got the new, black SwiftKey X for free on Amazon yesterday, Amazon may not yet say that you have an upgrade available but if you uninstall and re-install SwiftKey X you will get Version 2.0.5.120 which works with the HTC email app on the ThunderBolt.
Way to go, Sarah & James!
Thanks, Robrecht
So what was the issue?

have you tried swiping down the keyboard (that is how you close it).
I have the same issue takes a few swype downs for it to close. The other problem I have is my text always appears behind the predictions on facebook and in forum runner.

Right now I'm using CleanROM. The keyboard it includes is pretty awful. I've replaced it with Kii, but - and I'm not sure if this is the keyboard or the ROM - the keyboard simply fails to show up on the screen for random 5-15 second intervals.
I'd like to replace the keyboard with something else. I really like the stock Android Jellybean and ICS keyboards.
Is there a way to get rid of the built-in keyboard entirely and replace it with the stock one?
i will never use any other keyboard besides swiftkey flow.
if you use your phone in landscape often, keymonk is interesting also.
Tried and didn't like the whole word prediction thing. Or swipe thing for that matter. I want something simple and barebones and fast/responsive as possible.
were the opposite lol. i only use swipe style keyboards.
hopefully someone else can give you a better recommendation.
before i switched to flow, i used the stock keyboard.

4.2 aosp or Swift key all the way.
Though I have to say that when I was on CleanRom I never had that much keyboard lag. Your installation may have issues especially if you restored apps using titanium.

4.2 AOSP keyboard for sure. A couple system apps + libs and you're set. You can even get one on the play store if you're super lazy.

I did not like swiping in the beginning much. Now, it is a must to have swiping capability. I found Swype beta to be the "best" right now, imo, just wish they have more themes to pick from. Or try Swiftkey.
I pretty much exclusively use a real virtual keyboard. Tops out between 65 and 70 words per minute. I just couldn't get down with the fake stuff.
The Gnote2 keyboard is pretty good.

There is a link in the theme forum to download. Just be sure to download the language before you try to open the keyboard, and don't install it with the ROM or you will be screwed upon activation. But once it's up, it's sweet.

After reading this post I thought I would give this keyboard a try. Really like it. The auto correct seems very good, ability to have number keys above, swipe typing, can change key size. Was a bit expensive for a keyboard, but worth it in my opinion.

im using this now. thanks!!!
lots of different keyboard style to choose from.
Have a Nexus 5 since yesterday and compared to Sense 5.5 keyboard this thing types like a dream. Seriously. Not to say that the keyboard on the One was bad, it is fine, but this one is just soooo.... GOOD. Not to mention the satisfying feeling of the pop sound if you choose to have that on.
Who else likes it? also INB4 Swype keyboard.
I love it, too!
I also tried Swiftkey once, but I don't need any of its additional features: the stock keyboard is just what I need, and its Swipe function works like a charm, not only in English (which has the best spellchecker), but also in Italian.
I also like the new stock keyboard, does what I need.
I still prefer SwiftKey. I mean I paid for the app so I have to use it otherwise my money is wasted.

Once you start to swipe type, you'll never go back. The stock swipe just isn't as good a predictor as Swype. I found myself having to slow down the swype for the stock kb to be accurate ( especially when you go horizontal with the wider kb). Tried swift key when swype was acting up (patched up now), but didn't feel the predictor was as functional as Swype's.
But if I didn't swipe type, the stock KGB would be more than adequate.
I'm surprised by how much I like the keyboard. I tried Swype a year or two back and it just felt like an unweildy gimmick so I gave up almost immediately. But with the N5 I started playing with it (Nexus variation) and really got into it. When it comes to writing text I find it's almost perfect -- and I've tried to see if I could screw it up. But in Google or the Chrome search bar it becomes awkward & dumbs down considerably, even seeming to miss letters altogether; most of the time I end up typing my search terms and definitely my addresses.
I have Been using SwiftKey for the last two years so when I got my n5 I tried the stock Google keyboard, and it only lasted a few hours before I went back to SwiftKey

sometimes it feels like when swiping on the stick keyboard nearly every word needs correcting afterwards

Swype is really awesome, much better than stock. I'd recommend to everyone to at least try it, there's a free version out there too. Has useful and very intuitive shortcuts, awesomely accurate swipe and predictions, bilingual predictions - most of the time there is no need to change languages.
