Apparent liquid damage - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
A few days ago my phone turned off. I sent it to the LG reapir center and they came back with liquid damage diagnosis. The phone was nowhere close to any liquid, therefore I am not too sure what to do. I would really appreciate if you could look at the picture below and advise me how I should fight my case.

Can you just click the link in the post above? Cheers

I think you should send to google not LG. LG is really strict and Google is a bit more understanding. Maybe if you send it to google stating that you sent the phone to LG and they returned it damaged maybe you will get lucky? Even better google may not even check it. But it sounds kinda fishy to me that your phone just suddenly wouldn't turn on and. LG finds water damage.

Hi, I am afraid I can't send it to google as it was not bought via google play. AI find marks around battery quite strange. It seems to me like a battery leakage, not liquid damage.

Tapatalk hates it when the backup text is used in image tags lol, annoying because desktop view prompts for it and people enter random letters instead of leaving it blank. -.-

I think the fact that the liquid damage is right next to the battery and there are no other signs of liquid damage anywhere except the centre of the phone, it must be battery fluid. How can external liquid make it to the centre of the phone without touching any other parts?
Ask LG to demonstrate how the liquid damage is not from the battery and ask them to demonstrate with evidence, the path they believe the liquid to have taken from external to the phone.

Hi, LG came back to me with the following:
Yes there does seem to be some tains around there but that does not indicate that the liquid has come from the battery. The liquid can come in from the 3.5mm jack on the handset or through the casing itself, and if a repair engineer has taken the handset apart to look at the damage, if the liquid was coming from the battery this would have been mentioned when the pictures were sent over. With regards to the liquid indicator, if the liquid does not hit that point then the indicator will not change. But the liquid has got into the phone, obviously missed the indicator and corroded the main board.
Any ideas?

I think I can get original Motorola guide for service centers on disassembling XT720. Will try to do it and will post the results here.
Took mine apart today...
its fairly simple and only 6 screws
two are exposed
two are partially exposed near the bottom
and two are hidden (under 8.0 xenon sticker and the other is under a screw sized sitcker in the corner by the lense)
Yeah I ended up just doing it. It wasnt bad. But I needed to changed the earpiece speaker which is attached to the line in jack, power button, and volume keys via a ribbon that is sticky taped around a thin edge of the case. It was a *****, but not that bad. Sorry I didnt take any pics. Too impatient.
Had the misfortune of breaking one of the SIM slot pins.
Hope you guys could help out here. How to remove the screws under :
a) Speaker Grill without damaging the grill
b) Stickers (beside the camera and the 8.0 label) without damaging them
thanks
danny
Both are sticky taped on. Grab under an edge and peel off.
Took apart mine yesterday and replaced the LCD , now the phone is not powering up , will take it to a shop here to see what happened

Hi, I have disassembled XT720, replaced digitizer then assembled back but I have to same issue - phone is not powering up. So I revert old digitzer back but the same ... I'm really sure that I make all of processes very precisely, no connectors are unplugged, everything is on right place ... everything is like before.
Is there any thing what I missed? Thank you for feedback.

[Q] Dust under the screen?

Hi,
I received the Opo yesterday and I notices a darker spot. Can you give some advice? I opened a ticket with One but I am so nervous about that.
I cannot take a good picture of that. It's like a red spot. It stucks there and I can see it with brilliant colours.
Thanks

Hmm, did you have a invite?
I dont have any problem with it.

Yes, I had an invite. Anyone can help?
Imho it could be one of three things
a) a defect in the screen: rather unlikely based on the shape
b) glue not fully dried --> i'm sceptical it could cause this. You may want to try an UV lamp to be sure though, no harm done.
c) actual dust/air under the screen. Only an RMA could fix that

I tried to get a new one in all way. I had a long discussion with them, but nothing. For they, it's a little problem of the display and they refused to change it.
Bad assistance, but we already know that. At the end, I decided to stay with the phone .

Not sure if any of you have experienced this, but there seems to be a scratch or damage on the backside of the glass, letting light through... Kinda looks like a notification light, but infact its the backlight from the LCD shining through......
Anyone else have this on the bottom of the phone ??

Interesting. I think I'm taking mine back.. Not a good defect at all.
Mine also has damage to the satin finish coating. Must have been thrown around in shipping..
Thank God! Finally...I've been searching all over the web for this issue. XDA to the rescue..Yay!. I am also facing the same issue. It's only been 3 days since I purchased it for a whooping $820 and now this darn bright dot seems to appear at the right end bottom part of the screen. I am planning to take it back to the service centre but I am doubtful whether they will replace the phone or not. BTW I stay in India and my model is the Z3 black D6653. Guys facing the similar issue, please post your model number also so that we can isolate the family of Z3s that are defective as this doesn't seem to happen with other models of Z3 like D6603, D6643, D6616.
Guys, I need a small update before I start wasting my time trying to get it replaced. Did anyone of you get a replacement? Not the refurbished one but a new phone. In India, most of the people applying for a replacement are getting a refurbished piece instead of a new phone. I might as well live with this small blemish instead of using a second hand device.
I can't imagine that any refurbished phones are available as Z3 replacements already

Definitely a defective device. They should swap it out for a brand new one, most companies only provide refurbished devices as replacements when they have gone EOL.
Yes that's what the guys at the service center are saying. It seems that I need to wait for 15-20 days before the replacement arrives. Also I noticed that the camera quality is not as good as in the Z2. even the Xiaomi MI3 outperformed Z3 in superior auto mode.

Google Cardboard/VR Setup?

What are the chances of finding a VR headset for this device? Did anyone ever find one for the Mi Max 2? That would probably work...

Holy crap that looks great, and its so cheap, can you give any more info? You say it fits but does it fit perfectly? How did you get on with the remote?
It does fit...barely! The unit seems ok, has a nice look to it, seals well against the phone with foam seals, etc. The remote however...so, there is no "button" (like cardboard has...) on the unit so you have to use the "remote"(I put that in quotes as this thing is terrible), but it's been nothing but terrible so far so I'm not sure if it's gonna work properly at all. Doesn't seem to be too much in the way of programming, but I was just jumping in without reading anything. Didn't have much time to mess with it, but maybe I'll take another look at the end of this week.

Interesting thanks, yeah the Amazon reviews dont sound so good when you dig in a bit, I think Ill chance it for $16, it used to cost five or six times that, please post any other thoughts you have, specifically is it focused properly? As in is the phone the right size for the lenses?
Mi Max 3 fits perfectly on Fiit VR 2S without a case.

focus is good, but not individually adjustable on the lenses. I can't get the remote to work properly, and I have an issue with getting the thing on. The curve on the "mask" is too great and the edges hit my face well before the middle does, fits very tight on my face. I'm going to return for a refund...

Thanks for that, how are you finding it? Can you focus/adjust etc, is it cutting off any of the screen?
Is the Mi Max 3 too big for it even though it fits or does it work well?

Bad quality glass cover

Today i found the hard way about how cheap the back glass is.
There were parts where there was visible gap and lots of dust inside and today while the phone heated up...the glass came off...
Thinking about simply putting it back with some double sided tape....or making clear back

Do the cameras wiggle a little bit ? Can you check if they have OIS, because there is conflicting info about this. Although I suppose if Xiaomi's not flaunting it, there's no OIS. But if you could still check, that'd be great !

Is this the zoom edition ? I know there are at least two levels of wiggling : autofocus, which should be just moving the lens closer or further from the sensor, and OIS, moving the sensor/lenses parallel to the plane of the phone, at least.

It looks great ! I dont want to void my warranty but I might do a clear mod when the warranty runs out.
Do you need the plastic cover over the motherboard, or could we do without ?

It's normal Poco f2 Pro, and I think it's moving the whole lens.
I think you can do it without the plastic cover...I just removed some stickers...didn't want to mess with it much.
