Is there an app or way to remote control an android device from a windows PC that doesn't require ROOT access? Also, I need a way to connect without having to accept permission to connect on the phone every time
any help is greatly appreciated!

wouldnt let me see the screen without a usb cable attached! also it times out after 15 min if you dont connect.
i know its possible since teamviewer quicksupport allows the functionality, but they have a stupid "do you accept the connection" popup

lazydroid brings up 3CX DroidDesktop 2 on the googleplay store. i tried that, but it doesnt let you view the android screen unless you have root
then my only advice would be to see what you can do to get airdroid workin [its the only one that doesn't require root or adb debugging.

I'm missing something obvious probably.. I've tried ddms and my phone explorer.. both launch and I see the GUI, but neither sees my Sensation.
I do have the SDK (and JDK) installed. WinXP7x64
MyPhoneExplorer has to be installed on both computer & phone. make sure to open the program on both. For the screen shot you need to be plugged in via USB (just choose disk drive when the option pulls up on your phone)
Has anybody noticed that in the libs we have a screenshot lib?
libScreenshotUtil.so to be exact.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
It says on htc's site that you are able to take a screenshot with the power key and (menu? Volume? I forget). However, when I tried it, I couldn't get it to work. I just use the sdk.

yep... tho I confess it did take me a while to figure out where that moved.. reminded me I should try ddms again.. still no joy there either.
When I connect the USB cable, I do see "USB debugging connected"
I'd love to be able to take a screenshot to show ya
and well, adb isn't working either.. not sure what is wrong...
EDIT: reinstalled SDK.. no joy.. I can USB connect as disk drive and see the device that way.. so USB is not completely dead..
Try to connect with my phone explorer through wifi. I know both apps have to be open. I sometimes have to click connect more than once on the pc for it to actually connect.
Also make sure on the computer app you have it set to connect to android and not a sony ericsson. That's in the settings.

There is an app called "No Root Screenshot It" on the market. It has a PC program that you download too. The difference is however, with this program you just plug the phone to PC, run the program on PC & then you can make screenshots until your next reboot without having to be wired to the PC.
**This is extremely simular to the temp root process available**
I would recommend temp rooting it, and using a program like drocap2 after root.
Since the process is almost identical it would only make sense to root and give yourself access to better suited programs than "No Root Screenshot It" which is limited in its abilities.
Finally....
What I finally ended up doing, after reinstalling the SDK and the google USB driver (it refused to ever use/install the google usb driver), was to go to HTC and get HTC Sync
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1073&news_id=918
I installed that.. unplugged and re-plugged the phone and Win7 finally did a driver install which did not fail.
Now I can use ADB and ddms, so I can take screenshots that way.
thanks for all the suggestions!
drocap2 works great on temp rooted Sensation

Thank you very much for recommending drocap2 (can be downloaded it via Android Google Market).
I installed it after temp root via Eugene373's posted method.
I did find that I had to disable SU notification setting else the "toast" or "notification bar" gets into the screen shot.
I used shake trigger for the lock screen while other screens, I prefer to use the notification bar trigger. Works great!

U don't need an app or root. The sensation has the screenshot function included in the phone. Just hold down the power button THEN hit the home key. I had previously thought you have to press the 2 together to take the shot....but it's not. That should take your screenshot and saved in your camera shots folder. Hope that helps
As the title says, I use a mac and I have been unable to use both my M7 (After 4.4 Update) and my M8 on my mac. To be specific, android file transfer never sees the phone. Occasionally when booting my phone up when connected the manager pops up with a phone could not connect message, but it has never worked. This is isolated to just HTC phones for me, I verified my setup is fine with a Note 10.1 2014 (running 4.4.2), Nexus 5 (4.4.2), and a S4 (4.2). All of those connect fine.
I know there were some threads about HTC breaking something but I haven't seen a fix yet. Is there one?
If you're rooted, try DriveDroid. Let it acquire root, skip the setup, then tap on the Settings icon on the bottom bar. Then tap USB Settings and select Manually Change Permanent USB Mount. Select Media Transfer Protocol Android Debugging. Now connect your device. You should be good to go.

I hope not. I Loathe HTC Sync. Damn thing never quits right, doesn't run particularly well, and I just don't want another service running if I don't really need it. When I'm done with finals though I will try that. I have a bad feeling your right though...
If you restart the computer with the phone still plugged in, Android File transfer will work.
I recently went through the process of de-bloating this phone; following the helpful guides here on the AT&T G3 General forum.
However, I am finding that I cannot connect via USB to my notebook. I am going to try this on my PC @ home this pm and see if this just is not a driver issue on this end.
I restored the LG PC Suite & Suite Service to system (as well as the settings) and tried the PC suite connection app on my notebook. No dice there either...I do not even see the phone asking me how I want to connect to the laptop before I began all this de-bloat.
Is there an APK, etc. I am missing on the phone that I need to bring back to make the PC suite work again, much less connect with my notebook?
I do have developer settings / usb debugging enabled as well as (re-) installed the LG driver package. Thank you for reading / assisting in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I removed pretty much everything on the lists provided in the AT&T G3 forums and now Windows 8 refers to my device under "Printers & Devices" as a "USB Charge Only Interface". I am on my home PC now where I can verify a few days ago I could connect to the device.
To be more specific, I cannot switch the G3 into MTP mode. Does anyone know if there is a specific apk (libs, etc) to re-enable this feature?

This is the reason I usually just freeze apps in titanium backup instead of uninstalling bloat altogether. I've had this kind of issue with other devices in the past so I always err on the side of caution. Like the other member said if you can list what all you removed so we can narrow down which app is causing your issue.

This is going to be kind of obvious but have you gone into devices on your pc and removed the LG drivers? If you remove them and then plug it in it should auto detect and reinstall the drivers. If it doesn't then at least we know its not a driver issue and it is in fact something on your device. I know it'd be a huge coincidence to both the notebook and desktop to have the same problem but the drivers could have somehow been corrupted.

this rings a bell, the first time I connected my phone to the computer it did this, I had to change the setting to MTP mode. There should be a notification on the phone that says something about changing the usb mode.
Also I don't think you get this option if the drivers aren't installed properly so that's another thing you could try

For sure. Its affecting more than that too.
I tried messing with real 4k (not 2k) wallpapers in GN launcher and it really messed with the background. Half screen black and flashing the image every 10 secs...even 1080 wallpapers starting failing.
Switched back to stock launcher and sort of fixed. Reboot finally allowed me to use GN with any 2k or less wallpaper again lol.

Anyone having issues with AFT and the GS7? When I plug in the GS7, AFT launches but I get an error that the device is locked, even though it isn't (screen is on and it's unlocked). I've tried removing security just to eliminate that, doesn't help.
Other Android 6.0 devices work fine with AFT so it's clearly GS7 related.
Particularly annoying because you can't yet write directly to the External SD card

When you connect S7 to the MAC, it says cannot connected, but a popup appears on your phone. Allow it, and don't disconnect the USB cabel. Once again, start Android File Transfer App. This is how it works. Each time when you plug S7 in, you have to allow the connection on the phone, after that it works until you disconnect S7.

OK, I found a real solution: install Samsung Smart Switch and update it. When phone is connected (don't have to allow) there is a small arrow on the right side of the name of your device, expand it, and a small folder icon opens a file manager like AFT. By the way it has also a backup/restore/update/syncMAC function without root.
If you have been getting a response when plugging in a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge, do the following:
Go the the Kies website and download Kies for Mac.
Next, openKiesMacSetup.dmg which you've just downloaded.
Click Uninstall. Your Mac will ask you to open the app, so you'll need to open it.
Once it's done uninstalling Kies you probably had on your computer from a while back and no longer use, once you plug in your new GS7 or GS7 edge, and open the AFT application on your Mac, it should still give you a weird response, but on your phone, this time it'll ask you if you're ready to connect your phone and open it up to see files on your computer. Select that you do, and it'll work.
A Finder window opens, and the model number will appear in the center of the Finder window with the requisite files.
Actually, unless I missed it, nobody touched on the solution, which is incredibly simple. I found it on accident. The default setting for the GS7 is to CHARGE when plugged into a Mac (maybe PC too?). Swipe the top notification area, tap "charging" and switch it to file transfer, or photo, or whatever else you want. Good luck!!!
Fixed it for me just now
I was having all of the above issues. What worked for me was completely removing all traces of Android File Transfer (including other mobile sync applications) with AppDelete. Then I reinstalled Android file transfer, plugged my phone in, tapped "Allow", and it worked!

I struggled with this, as well. I even uninstalled all KIES drivers form my Mac and AFT still didn't work with my S7 until I did the following:
(1) Plug the S7 USB into the Mac.
(2) Down swipe the status bar at the top and you should see a "USB Charging" status.
(3) Tap on the "USB Charging" status and a menu with radio buttons should pop up.
(4) Choose the "File Transfer" option.
After doing that, AFT worked properly and it didn't even require me to click "Allow" or anything else. It just worked.
mickliq's solution worked for me as well (hadn't been able to connect an s7 or s6 to a mac air osx 10.11.4 until downloading and uninstalling Kies). Thanks!

i have a shattered screen on the S7. the phone itself works - it turns on, it gets audible notifications, etc.. the only thing not working is the screen. i took it to 2 shops and they tried putting new screen on the phone but could not get the new screen to work. so i think there's some sort of short in the electronics from motherboard to screen. ideally, i would like to somehow get the screen working so i can do a backup to cloud of all my contacts, messages, media, whatsapp conversations, etc. but if i can't get the screen working then perhaps i could somehow connect to PC and get what i can from the files. i don't know how to get it to connect to PC at this point because the phone doesn't get recognized on the PC when i connect.
