[Q] My device's(Nexus5, android 4.4.4) WIFI-Direct always disconnect automatically - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My device's(Nexus5, android 4.4.4) WIFI-Direct always disconnect automatically in a few minutes.
The issue only occurred at some device(ex: Nexus5 to hTC m8, Nexus5 to TEGRA Note),
and I can confirm the device(hTC m8, TEGRA Note) wifi-direct connection with others is ok,
The issue can't be found in before version(4.4.2) as far as I remembered,
but I can't confirm that because it still is the new version(4.4.4) even let it factory reset.
Can anyone give me some tips?

Does it do the same with all wifi networks you try to connect to?
Try flashing the factory images. They will fix any system problems if any. If those don't fix it, then it's probably some kind of hardware problem.

Hi, I use a factory upgrade procedure(4.4.2->4.4.4), it can connect normally with the others device so far besides m8 and tegra.
But I reset factory setting(still android 4.4.4), the connection status became a little better.
Before It always disconnected in 1 ~ 2 minutes but now it can connect over 10 minutes(max to 60 minutes).
The root cause is probably the bad wifi environment or some thing wrong at the os upgrade directly.
Of course it's also probably some kind of hardware problem if the issue still exist after I do the more test.
Thanks a lot.

Sticky WIFI

HI
Got my One S yesterday and might i just say i think its the bees knees so to speak.
So far everything seems fine and no noticed any of the issues mentioned here.
The first thing i have noticed today however is this:
I had the phone connected to my home's wifi which was great, however when i got to work this morning it thought it was still connected to such WIFI eventhough i was miles from home. i had to turn wifi off and on to fix it.
Anyone else noticed this, or have an idea of how to fix?
Cheers
It is a known bug
I also found myself traveling miles from home with no WIFI in the horizon with my home network still connected, blocking the phone from switching to mobile data.
We will probably need to wait for a firmware update.

on top of that, I do get once in a while error when trying to enable WIFI.
no detailed data but just "Error" instead of the regular on/off.
Have seen the same problem too, sometimes the device gets stuck thinking it is connected to Wifi when in fact it is many miles from the network it claims to be connected to.
I have seen the problem the other way around... when having been outside of the range of my wifi-router the HOS won't connect back to it when coming home... the only thing to do is to shut off wifi on the phone..
that exactly what i added before

I have mentioned that trying to re-enable WIFI results in an error instead of either on or off in its settings. Indeed only phone restart helps.

the error I mentioned is not always and usually I can disable/enable w/o any issue.
But, it did happened more than once.
to me it doesn't happen
After some more testing I have come to this conclusion:
If I put the wifi in high power mode it connects immedietly to my trusty DIR-655 after having slept for some time. If I put it in low power mode it is trying to connect but doesn't do squat.
From there I just have to momentarily disable and enable wifi in order for it to happily reconnect again. Yay for the wifi widget...
And yes, I want the phone to shut down wifi when in standby mode. NOT always on.

[Q] Weird wifi problem

I'm experiencing some weird problem over wifi. No matters where I'm connected it always works just for a while (less than 30 minutes). It happens at my place, work, and also at my girlfriend's place. Even at my university (over VPN) it happens and freaks me out.
I believe it could be a wireless driver problem but I'm not sure. I'm currently using MR1 AOKP ROM (last version) but It also happened on ARHD 5.0 and 7.0 ROM versions.
Sometimes my workaround is disconnect and connect again, also turn off and on the Wi-fi, and also using VPN. But it just works for a while (every few minutes).
Can somebody help me with this?
Are someone experiencing something like this?

Wifi issues

Is anyone having WIFI issues with their Note Pro 12.2. I have regular and frequent wifi drops even though the tablet says it's connected. I've done a factory reset 2 times already, which is so time consuming in order to get your tablet back to where you want it.

No I don't think so. Its drops whether BTis connected or not connected.
My WiFi drops out randomly (and often) as well. It's gone on since I've owned the tablet, despite factory resets and switching to the debloated ROM. Matters not with BT, I've never used SideSync (it's not even installed). The only time I really notice a problem is when I'm connected to the Samsung/Galaxy store. Every now and then when streaming music or watching videos I don't have enough buffered to last until the connection comes back, but otherwise it's not too noticeable.

Google Pixel WiFi Problem

I am having a problem with my Google Pixel even after having flashed the latest factory image. The WiFi will disconnect as soon as it connects and then immediately try to reconnect over and over. Any one also experiencing this or have any idea how to fix it? Thank you!

^ this. If you type your password wrong. It will not say "obtaining IP address". It will just say "connecting"(or something like that)..then look like its connected then proceed to cycle reconnecting.
Just to chime in on this, picked up a Pixel yesterday and had the same issue with my 5ghz network. 2.4ghz works fine. Swapped it out for another Pixel today and will be setting it up tonight so will report back. I'm pretty sure mine was a hardware issue!
I wish Google would put a dialog box up saying that the password isn't working. I feel like a lot of people blame the phone/hardware. I've seen this happen on all of my nexus devices and it's ALWAYS because of the password being wrong. I just learned to pay attention to the behavior of the connection status. My passwords at home are ridiculously easy, so I never have the problem there. But it happened with my Pixel at work because I forgot to capitalize a letter.
I guess I'm not saying that it couldn't be hardware related. But I personally would double check my router settings to verify I'm typing what I remember the password to be.

Phone is completely up to date! Not a hardware issue, just setting up the new one and same issue! Not a password issue either as it connects to the Internet for a minute then drops out and connects/disconnects constantly. Only happens with the 5ghz network. I've tried messing around with the channels and everything but nothing seems to work!! Wish I knew what was causing it!!

Have you tried resetting your router, just for giggles? You didn't perhaps go into developer settings and check the aggressive wifi to cellular handoff option did you? All I can tell you from experience is that I had the same thing happen and it fixed itself real quick after I did the quick little update. You can also try leaving the area so it drops wifi then going back and seeing if it will remember and connect better the 2nd time. Sorry I can't be more help...
Cannot for the life of me work this out. Tried every configuration I can think of with my 5ghz network and same issue every time. Maybe a future update will sort it out?
Had a WiFi issue with my first pixel. The phone wouldn't even try to connect to 5ghz. And on 2.4, it would drop signal and connect and reconnect constantly. I had them send me a new one and its perfect. No issues whatsoever! You guys probably have a hardware issue. I even tried the system image that Verizon dropped, even though I'm not Verizon and I still had the issue on the first pixel.
Nick
I had the same issue. It all started after I changed a wifi setting on Pixel XL. I changed to Keep Wifi On During Sleep to "Only When Plugged In" and then couldn't connect to Wifi. It would for a little bit after restarting phone but after first disconnect it would Fail to Connect.
I changed setting to "Always" and no issues anymore with wifi.

Is this a hardware issues? or a sw update can fix it?

Have you tried any other 5ghz networks, like maybe at a friend's? That MIGHT help you determine if it's hardware or your specific router/configuration.

My coworker has a new Pixel, been using it for about 10 days without issue but today he came into work looking for help because his Wi-Fi isn't working. It does what OP stated, constantly cycling between "saved", "connecting", "authenticating", "obtaining IP address", and then back to "saved". He reset his home router, was on the phone with Verizon(?) for an hour, he's tried my moto X's 2.4GHz and 5GHz hotspot here at work and can't I can't get it to work. He said the Verizon rep told him it was the SIM card but that's bs. We tried with no SIM installed, no change. We did a reboot into safe mode, no luck. I tried booting into the factory recovery to clear cache but it appears that's not an option. He doesn't want to do a factory reset, I think he's going to get a new one. Will see if they make him do a factory reset prior to replacing or not.
*Edit* Verizon gave him a new Pixel...
I've begun experiencing similar behavior after the VZW update to NDE63X. I can only comment on 2.4GHz as that's all my router has. I doesn't seem to be demolishing the battery, but it's annoying when a web page, or part of a page doesn't load.

No, 100% stock. I was actually trying to convince him to unlock before it got patched, I guess good thing he didn't? What's messed up is that it took over 10 days for it to quit working. What would have happened if he was outside that 15 day window Verizon has. What if he had unlocked it and rooted it? What's to say his new replacement doesn't do the same thing in a month from now?

I just received my Pixel and the 5 ghz channel frequently disconnects then connects again when browsing. The problem happens on the 2.4 ghz channel too. All my other devices work on my router and I have the most recent firmware (I will try a router firmware reset). It happens on both my routers.
Is this a hardware problem or firmware?
Edit: I reset my wifi and started to reconfigure. There were no problems until I activated ipv6 on my router and the wifi started to drop out again.
here is a thread someone posted in the google product support

Other users having this issue have IPv6 activated? Both my routers are from ASUS.

Nexus 5 stuck on "Turning wifi on"

Hello all, my old Nexus 5's wifi stopped working back in January for no apparent reason. Everytime I tried turning it on for some strange reason it just Grey's out. The MAC Address is also really weird. I tried looking for a solution but to no avail. I'm starting to think that it's a hardware issue. These are what I've done so far for the past 4 months or so:
- rebooted the phone
- wiped the cache
- wiped data using TWRP
- letting the battery drain and charging it again after a couple weeks
- smacking the back side on my hand (lightly of course)
Any help would be much appreciated. Also, it's not my primary phone anymore so I can't tell whether cellular connection would be working or not.
Just did a factory reset and wiped everything, still nothing. MAC Address is just a solid 2.00.000.00. Also, Bluetooth still works.
Try running a stock 4.4 or 5.01 rom. If the problem still exists, I'd say it's a hardware issue.

Hmm, I had a similar problem few months ago, tried flashing the latest stock firmware; didn't help and then moved back to a custom ROM. Strangely, it didn't work at that time too but kept the phone the same for an hour and out of nowhere it started working. Seems like the phone is really dying now.

Still doesn't work for me. I'm gonna try taking apart the phone to see if the wifi chip is ok, hopefully it's not a hardware issue.
Same problem here, even on custom ROMs and factory images,
Is there any hardware solution? Maybe an external WiFi antenna or something like that?

Not that I know of unfortunately. Guess we'll have to buy a new Mobo for the phone
Hi guys! Since today I hopped on the "activating wifi" train too!
I'm on Lineage 14.1 CAF, and did a full wipe and flash, no changes.
I followed a guide in a post here on XDA to recreate the MAC address file, after that wifi worked for a couple of minutes, then went down again.
I thought about flashing MM stock image, but after reading your posts I think i'll keep my phone this way until I buy an OP6.
Luckily I have 15Gb of cellular data
What I did was I opened the phone and took out the motherboard and disconnected the battery from everything, then took out the heatsink that's on top of the wifi chip. It worked for a bit then it stopped working for good. It definitely has to be a software issue because Bluetooth is working fine.
It could be a hardware problem. I have two Nexus 5 motherboards where the wifi tries to turn on and, eventually, the slider goes back to the off position.
