Hi,
I have my Nexus 5 since early february, rooted it, running stock KK no problem.
I flashed the Android L preview a few days after its release to test it a few weeks.
As I wasn't sastified with this preview and the lack of many my little rooted convenience, a few days I went back to KK 4.4.4 and flashed the ElementalX kernel.
Since then when I plug it into anything (computer or just charger) it generally stays just fine until the screen shuts off -during this time I can use normally- or report a system error saying the UI has crashed. I can't use it anymore and I have to unplug it and reboot it.
After rebooting it loses the wallpaper I had setup, as far as I can see it's the only setting it loses.
As I hadn't had this problem with L, I went back to it. And same problem.
Do you know anything about that ? I searched this forum and the only thing that seemed to be near was this thread, but it doesn't exactly corrolate.
Thank you.
You tried a full fresh factory image of 4.4.4, correct?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
Correct, I took the file from google server not anything else.
I don't know if this would matter (I honestly don't think i would), but have you tried different USB ports, and ultimately, a different computer?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
I did try every USB hub my motherboard has.
No, I didn't try another computer but I tried on Windows and on Ubuntu.
How did u flash the FI?
Try Method 2 from this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
BTW do not restore any Android L stuff
I originally typed all commands, but then I used the Nexus Root Toolkit, yes I was being lazy... And maybe I shouldn't have been, but this software seemed legit good. And then I tried what's described in method one.
I'll try method 2 tonight (it's 8am here).
I didn't "restore" android L" stuff, I wanted to see this preview, after having seen it I went back to KK, as I had problems I hadn't had with the preview I thought I'd just come back to that.

Its strange that this happens on stock with no modifications at all. Have you tried playing around with the USB settings located in both the storage menu and in developer settings?

Well, I successfully reflashed 4.4.4, I have not encountered that annoying bug since.
But, I have one driver related issue, windows insists on installing only the ADB drivers when I plug my N5 in MTP mode (USB debbuging deactivated).
And even after it doesn't detect it when I try to send instructions (works fine though in bootloader mode)...
And the os doesn't see the N5 neither as a MTP devices nor a USB storage device. But I can it in the peripherals list.
i can't find the right key words if this problem has happened before (which I'm sure it has)

Just out of curiosity, does your Nexus display the right amount of storage for your internal SD card (in the settings menu)?

Are you thinking of the bug making some 32Go models appear as 16Go ? As I have the 16Go models, I don't think it could affect me :/
Nope, it's right amount of storage displayed, 12,55Go free, 1Go of apps, 1Go of audio files etc

That's what I had installed months ago ^^
I had it laying around my folder dedicated to Android stuffz (that's the name of the folder yes), I forgot about that...
And now all seems to be working fine again ! Thank you
I don't think I would have remembered it
And thank you to all who helped me

Since I flashed Cyanogen 9 RC1 I cannot connect my phone in SD card mode.
I knew that it is a known bug at CM 9 but I thought that everything would be fine if a flash another rom.
But the failure is still there. I tried different roms, and for me it's still not possible to mount the phone in SD card mode.
The option simply not appears. It is charging without the usual choice to mount as SD card or not.
Can some help, please?
That's not a CM9 RC1 bug. I am running RC1 and it's working fine. Try changing USB ports/Cables and re-installing your drivers on your computer.

I tried different cables and computer! The battery sign don't changes (but the phone is charging) and the option to mount doesn't appears. Even when I plug my phone into the "normal" charger the sign doesn't change anymore. Normally I don't need any driver to connect the phone as SD card.
If changing roms doesn't fix it then it can't be rom related.

OK, I fully agree, that it is not ROM related. It happens to me after I flashed CM 9. Just thought I read something in the thread about it... Anyway, I still have this issue and don't know what to do.

Did you try installing HTC sync? (I know it's a samsung phone but the HTC sync drivers sometimes can make your computer recognize android phones, it's a weird but well documented fix)
Not yet but I will give it a try

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342 this method, i saved my IMEI and everything, my phone rebooted and i have service, just that annoying error, i was reading about possibly having KIES installed will get rid of that error, so i'm trying that now, should i flash my IMEI over just to make sure that's not the issue?
hmmm, this is odd.......if, while the same error is displaying, i go into where i can change the usb pc settings and swap it from standard MTP over to PTP, it'll find my phone as a camera, then if i switch back to MTP, it'll let me browse thru my phone with no issues......wonder if others are having that issue lol

im pretty sure it had nothing to do with rooting....
im guessing you have a windows pc?
samsung put out a driver update for the computer that caused the error.
only way i found to fix the problem is to do a system restore back a few days before the update.
my update was automatic, im going to see if i can stop that update from happening for now..
ic you can call samsung and make them aware like i did...
what is the actual name of the missing driver? is it the samsung _i535 that is missing? is so, it happened to me, and i just have to manually install it by browsing to the android sdk folder under extra and selected the google usb driver.
What is the proper way of fixing this issue. Mine just started throwing this out too. If I reboot my computer I can usually get it to read my phone, but this is a pain.
Wonder no more, same issue here. Missing Hardware ID after rooting, Bell SGH-I747M Used the root/stock image on XDA.

Same thing happens to me.
Switch to a different USB port. Then keep disconnecting from your PC and switching ports if it still does it. Eventually it will install the drivers and work.
Not a fix at all, but what I do to get it to work.

anyone ever figure out a solution to this "hardware id is missing" issue?
Un-installing and re-installing the drivers works most of the time. I dunno why it didn't for the OP.
Hello
I installed [ROM][JB][STABLE] CyanogenMod 10 ♦ B2 a few days ago, before this everything was normal.
After installing the new CM10 rom i couldn't turn on wifi. I figured it was the rom so i restored an older version of android that i new worked
the wai it should. To my surprise i still have the same problem. I wiped the device and rebootet, same problem.
The device tries to turn on wifi but it stickes to the turning on message and nothing happens. I'm starting to think its hardware related.
Any ideas?
-EDIT-
Something new.
I also noticed that i can't access any files on the device. When i open a filemanager it says "forlder empty"
Also if i go to storage under settings it just closes and goes back to the homescreen. I can access the internal storage through ADB.
I am guessing this is related to my wifi problem.
Thanks
Xenodwarf.

When ever I have gotten my TF101 into a situation such as this, I go back to "Easy Flasher"(see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012 ) and put it back to square one. Then I can start my tinkering from there.
That would rule out any possible hardware problems
Edit: Oh. And I'm running the RaymanFX CM10 B2 that you tried, and wifi works fine for me. As well as storage access.

I updated with theOTA from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/android-5-1-t3115536 just download the ota and supersu from that link and flash the OTA first then supersu and your done. I didnt even lose recovery after i flashed these!
Oh yeah and I used google sheets and docs for 4 hours this morning without a single freeze or crash normally i would've had at least 10 during that time. So yes its def. worth it.
So far.... I installed about 3 hours after release, it's much much smoother. Only once have I gotten the "what the frig is this thing doing" hang and sputter, while installing busy box. Colors are great. It's like flashing a new screen. Xposed super alpha for 5.1 working. Gravity box works, flat style colored bars works.
Now just waiting for custom kernels....
Depends. Update 3.0 has these issues:
1- Apps optimization on every reboot. (rebooting takes 5 or more minutes)
2- USB OTG not working (tried usb flash drives and nothing)
3- Controller not turning off when button pressed (by design)
I was on 5.0.1 rooted, I wiped everything, flashed 5.1 and rooted again, if you are wondering.

Something may have gone wrong. I've only had the optimization come up if I clear cache or install apps via recovery so far... And I've been trying to get it to crash at reboot....
Judging from the responses in this thread, it looks like it's finally time for me to unlock my bootloader and update from 4.4. Wish me luck, guys!

I've had it come up on several reboots. Many people report it too on the official Nvidia forums.
But the USB OTG thing did it, Im staying on 2.2.1 until a hotfix is released.
I stand corrected, =x I have 2 apps optimizing at boot.
No problems here
I installed ota 3.0 from twrp after wiping everything including internal memory and I have no problems....
No app optimizations after every reboot or havent encountered any lags or sound glitches + wifi performance is much better and no issues with hdmi or usb otg either, played half life 2 for like 2.5 hours straight and had no issues even for a second...
Don't now what happened with the people who are having problems with this update. I have 32gb lte version and the tab performance is perfect now, for me atleast.
So i would suggest wiping everything except external sdcard and flashing full rom + latest supersu
USB OTG is working for me. I can use my 8GB drive.
I also have the Apps optimizing at every boot bug. 189 of them nonetheless... So the wait is huge.
Full OTA dirty flash over previous 2.2.1, dalvik/cache wipe. I hope for a fix soon.
Wipe everything then install full rom, i am pretty sure u wont get apps optimizing every boot. For me after the update the boot cycles are the fastest yet and I also do have around 180 apps...

My S6 works flawless.
Except for the fact that I cannot get a functional PC Connection. I tried everything I know: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Linux and even a mac. Windows states everytime that the device doesn't work properly and cannot be identified. It is listed as unknown device.
Yes I have installed drivers many many times.
I don't want to do a factory reset. Because if I delete everything and after that there is still no connection, I am pretty f*cked up.
I tested with several usb ports and cables.
I installed other kernels.
I even changed the daughterboard.
It can charge when it's connected to a PC but nothing more. I had it under warranty send in for a repair but Samsung Germany said to me that "every change of the original software leads to loss of the warranty. "
I think my S6 itself doesn't have a USB driver. So it doesn't know how to commute with a PC.
So I got two questions. Is my S6 bricked? Does someone know my problem or even a solution?
And second is there a way to flash bootloader, modem, twrp without a PC?

Only the data is deleted. Remember, the phone comes from the "factory" with software installed.
