Mount as SD Card - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I flashed Cyanogen 9 RC1 I cannot connect my phone in SD card mode.
I knew that it is a known bug at CM 9 but I thought that everything would be fine if a flash another rom.
But the failure is still there. I tried different roms, and for me it's still not possible to mount the phone in SD card mode.
The option simply not appears. It is charging without the usual choice to mount as SD card or not.
Can some help, please?

That's not a CM9 RC1 bug. I am running RC1 and it's working fine. Try changing USB ports/Cables and re-installing your drivers on your computer.

I tried different cables and computer! The battery sign don't changes (but the phone is charging) and the option to mount doesn't appears. Even when I plug my phone into the "normal" charger the sign doesn't change anymore. Normally I don't need any driver to connect the phone as SD card.

If changing roms doesn't fix it then it can't be rom related.

OK, I fully agree, that it is not ROM related. It happens to me after I flashed CM 9. Just thought I read something in the thread about it... Anyway, I still have this issue and don't know what to do.

Did you try installing HTC sync? (I know it's a samsung phone but the HTC sync drivers sometimes can make your computer recognize android phones, it's a weird but well documented fix)

Not yet but I will give it a try

[Q&A][ROM][Jellybean] CNA 3.6.6 for Samsung Infuse [PORT]

Welcome, everyone- this is the place to ask a question about the CNA Jellybean Rom- Port for our Infuse and more importantly hopefully have that question answered.
You may also discuss issues you are having such as can't download, which g apps do I use, getting a FC on xyz ap, and so on.
A few general Q & A's you may find helpful:
Q: What is CNA ? Any screenshot and more info?
A: Code Name Android info here: http://codenameandroid.com
Q: Where can I download this?
A: Info is in the OP, or you can go here: http://goo.im/devs/Th3Bill/CNA/Infuse
Q: After flashing or using for extended periods my phone seems a bit slow- what to do to make it faster?
A: The test build for this port ( and MIUI v4) was done on my phone since Th3Bill (OP) does not have an Infuse. (Think about that for a minute, no Infuse and to date has brought us 2 roms to enjoy )
Four things I have done that work for me to make the phone faster: 1. Update Superuser ( if applicable.) 2. Choose a static (still) wallpaper rather than a live wallpaper. 3. In developer settings, change animation /transition to "off" or "0". 4.Use the app of your choice to clean up the phone, I use Cachemate.
One other tip for better battery life - this rom will let you download and use CM 10 themes. Using one that has darker backgrounds throughout uses less battery than themes using a lot of light colors.
OK - it's all yours !! I will help as best I can, Th3Bill has a link to this page and will be checking in as often as he can - you will find he is involved and supportive and there will be updates as new things are pushed to source. Regards.
Thanks for the start of the Q&A. Let me be the first then...
I am coming from Scott's CM10, do I just wipe, wipe, wipe and reflash or do I need to Heimdall (maybe with ICS) back first then flash the CNA ROM?
Which GAPPS do you recommend?

You are correct, should be able to wipe x3 and flash - one person also "fixed Permissions" to clear a FC issue.
Edit; I used the 7/26/2012 g apps, you might need to get the gallery2.apk
Here is what I used for gapps. Works just fine. v3
http://www.jokersax.com/developer-pages/jokersax/cm10-gapps/
Wiped/factory reset a couple of times, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik, another factory reset, flashed CNA ROM, flashed jellygapps v3, fixed permissions, rebooted, rebooted again and have an X, then
USB Mass Storage Toggle
App info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389375.
Usage: Tap on the Droid to switch UMS mode.
Tapped Droid but I cannot connect to this PC (work PC). I have to wait to I get home. Or suggestions are welcomed.

Guessing your work PC does'nt have phone drivers - I have been using that USB Mass Storage Toggle for some time, including on this build.
That's correct. So no big deal, another hour and I will be home and hopefully up and running once I connect there. I will post again with the results.

Okay, I am home, USB is connected, tapped the Droid, it says UMS is currently enabled. I downloaded the app from the link...
For the devices listed above, the App works like a charm.
•Latest stable version (1.1.4): Download APK (you'll probably want this one!)
Now what? Reboot and flash it?

Yes, reboot and flash and let me know how it goes. :fingers-crossed:

I suppose the best route would be to start over. There should be no problem coming from Scott's excellent build.
Having said that, try installing a CM9 rom, let it settle in for 5 -10 minutes and reboot, wipes, flash and see if it will boot. Go back later and get the g apps. This is what worked for me. I can tell you that during the install, phone will cut off before making it back to the "reboot system now" screen, however it will restart and take you there so just hit power button to reboot. This rom does take 2-3 times as long to boot for the first time as opposed to other roms.
I'm not so sure you want to flash since they are .apk's

Bill did include the USB Mass Storage Toggle in the build. It should be there when you flash the rom. It was there when I flashed and it works. No additional d/l's were necessary.
Also, I didn't have any of the restarts you mentioned. I had a black screen for about 30 seconds when it went to the new CWM and then a black screen for about 30 more seconds when it rebooted to the Nexus X.
I did think I had problems because it stayed on the Nexus X screen for about 5 minutes before it booted up to the lock screen.
Edit: Also it booted itself to the Nexus 7 screen without asking after installing the rom package. Had to go back in and add the gapps.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342 this method, i saved my IMEI and everything, my phone rebooted and i have service, just that annoying error, i was reading about possibly having KIES installed will get rid of that error, so i'm trying that now, should i flash my IMEI over just to make sure that's not the issue?
hmmm, this is odd.......if, while the same error is displaying, i go into where i can change the usb pc settings and swap it from standard MTP over to PTP, it'll find my phone as a camera, then if i switch back to MTP, it'll let me browse thru my phone with no issues......wonder if others are having that issue lol

im pretty sure it had nothing to do with rooting....
im guessing you have a windows pc?
samsung put out a driver update for the computer that caused the error.
only way i found to fix the problem is to do a system restore back a few days before the update.
my update was automatic, im going to see if i can stop that update from happening for now..
ic you can call samsung and make them aware like i did...
what is the actual name of the missing driver? is it the samsung _i535 that is missing? is so, it happened to me, and i just have to manually install it by browsing to the android sdk folder under extra and selected the google usb driver.
What is the proper way of fixing this issue. Mine just started throwing this out too. If I reboot my computer I can usually get it to read my phone, but this is a pain.
Wonder no more, same issue here. Missing Hardware ID after rooting, Bell SGH-I747M Used the root/stock image on XDA.

Same thing happens to me.
Switch to a different USB port. Then keep disconnecting from your PC and switching ports if it still does it. Eventually it will install the drivers and work.
Not a fix at all, but what I do to get it to work.

anyone ever figure out a solution to this "hardware id is missing" issue?
Un-installing and re-installing the drivers works most of the time. I dunno why it didn't for the OP.

[Q]Can't enable Wifi.

Hello
I installed [ROM][JB][STABLE] CyanogenMod 10 ♦ B2 a few days ago, before this everything was normal.
After installing the new CM10 rom i couldn't turn on wifi. I figured it was the rom so i restored an older version of android that i new worked
the wai it should. To my surprise i still have the same problem. I wiped the device and rebootet, same problem.
The device tries to turn on wifi but it stickes to the turning on message and nothing happens. I'm starting to think its hardware related.
Any ideas?
-EDIT-
Something new.
I also noticed that i can't access any files on the device. When i open a filemanager it says "forlder empty"
Also if i go to storage under settings it just closes and goes back to the homescreen. I can access the internal storage through ADB.
I am guessing this is related to my wifi problem.
Thanks
Xenodwarf.

When ever I have gotten my TF101 into a situation such as this, I go back to "Easy Flasher"(see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012 ) and put it back to square one. Then I can start my tinkering from there.
That would rule out any possible hardware problems
Edit: Oh. And I'm running the RaymanFX CM10 B2 that you tried, and wifi works fine for me. As well as storage access.

[Q] Can't turn on USB storage for sensation XE, CM10.1-Albinoman887

I have this problem happens on my HTC sensation XE using CM10.1-Albinoman887, whenever i tried to turn on my USB storage it keep running but seem unable to connect with the PC. Try to restart and sometimes lucky able to get connected but then only 1 or 2 times then back to normal.
Wondering it's due to my SD card problem or actually the CM10.1 problem? Need help from experts....: crying:
It might be the kernel issue. Try doing a full wipe then reflash the rom to see if problem persists.

Hi,
There's definitely a process either originated or related to the SD card which prevents your PC from mounting your SD card.
Deactivate your swap file in case you have, otherwise, check all running (whether background or foreground) apps to see what's causing so.

Do you use newest drivers on your PC?
Maybe the new security features of JB 4.2.2 prevent you from mounting.
Did you try in windows only, or can you try with Linux live CD as well?

Same issue go with me
Did you install Titanium backup or lucky patcher in your phone. I suspect that two things giving me the issue. After I do a full wipe and install back all the things one by one. It works fine. But until I install Root Explorer, the issue came back again.
Therefore, I suspect If we didnt install any root required Apps...This problem can be avoid... I think...
However, currently I still facing this problem coz lazy to do the full wipe. Once I know the result I will inform you again..

Crash when charging

Hi,
I have my Nexus 5 since early february, rooted it, running stock KK no problem.
I flashed the Android L preview a few days after its release to test it a few weeks.
As I wasn't sastified with this preview and the lack of many my little rooted convenience, a few days I went back to KK 4.4.4 and flashed the ElementalX kernel.
Since then when I plug it into anything (computer or just charger) it generally stays just fine until the screen shuts off -during this time I can use normally- or report a system error saying the UI has crashed. I can't use it anymore and I have to unplug it and reboot it.
After rebooting it loses the wallpaper I had setup, as far as I can see it's the only setting it loses.
As I hadn't had this problem with L, I went back to it. And same problem.
Do you know anything about that ? I searched this forum and the only thing that seemed to be near was this thread, but it doesn't exactly corrolate.
Thank you.
You tried a full fresh factory image of 4.4.4, correct?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
Correct, I took the file from google server not anything else.
I don't know if this would matter (I honestly don't think i would), but have you tried different USB ports, and ultimately, a different computer?

I did try every USB hub my motherboard has.
No, I didn't try another computer but I tried on Windows and on Ubuntu.
How did u flash the FI?
Try Method 2 from this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
BTW do not restore any Android L stuff
I originally typed all commands, but then I used the Nexus Root Toolkit, yes I was being lazy... And maybe I shouldn't have been, but this software seemed legit good. And then I tried what's described in method one.
I'll try method 2 tonight (it's 8am here).
I didn't "restore" android L" stuff, I wanted to see this preview, after having seen it I went back to KK, as I had problems I hadn't had with the preview I thought I'd just come back to that.

Well, I successfully reflashed 4.4.4, I have not encountered that annoying bug since.
But, I have one driver related issue, windows insists on installing only the ADB drivers when I plug my N5 in MTP mode (USB debbuging deactivated).
And even after it doesn't detect it when I try to send instructions (works fine though in bootloader mode)...
And the os doesn't see the N5 neither as a MTP devices nor a USB storage device. But I can it in the peripherals list.
i can't find the right key words if this problem has happened before (which I'm sure it has)
