Hey everyone,
My issue with proximity sensor, was that is used to work very rarely. If it worked, everything was alright, but most of the time I had to switch screen off manually during a call, and it was hell of annoying. It was not software issue, because "Sensors sense" app clearly shown, that mos of the time proximity sensor simply did not work. It just kept on polling data from sensor, and no data did come at all.
Very similar situation happend with light sensor, but most of the time it kept on showing 10 lx, independantly on the amount of light recieved.
The result is simple - my quietly brilliant smartphone, lost some of its smartness...
I decided to disassembly my senny, it is not first time after changing digitizer and LED.
For the first time, two weeks ago I pointed heat gun at those sensors, being careful not to aim anything else. I used 270 Celcius degrees (tin melts in 230) for about a minute. For a week everything was almost as perfect as in a new phone. But later it stopped working.
So I thought more temperature is needed. And gave is 300 degrees. But nothing has changed. Right after fixing it worked, but now it is very moody.
What should I do, any ideas?
Thanks for anyadvices. Have a nice day.
From physics i guess wen u heat the phone some metal or wires expand making a connection. And maybe it takes abwt a week for the wires to cool down and contract and lose that contact. So my guess is to check if every connection is intact. Also may i noe how it is to change the lcd on the senny in ur country. Just wanna compare prices
Bump?

I wonder if anyone of you has experienced this kind of failure. 3 weeks ago I had an accident: my smartphone laying on car roo was crushed by trunk door after opening. Display had cracked, to my surprise digitizer survived. GSM service has replaced amoled screen and everything looked fine until yesterday, when it blinked couple time as if connection tape was not fit tightly.
It was this effect I recorded: youtube.com/watch?v=-lYj0nXc7NI
Today it happened again but after couple minutes of blinking it just got persistent blue shade. GMS service checked the tape and it was ok; they said either display is defective or motherboard is failing (I have to wait until they receive components delivery).
After an hour or so, I switched phone again and after a minute of blinking, it settled down and true colours returned. I suspected it was due to heat; i did a test running cpu benchmark and a game at the same time... in couple minutes it started blinking again and turned blue for another several minutes. I repeated this test once more with the same results. Does this mean main board is main suspect? I guess it was cracked slightly and when it is warmed up it there are electric disconnection of some kind... I just want to make sure GSM service will not extend unnecessary costs if I decide to repair it.
cheers,
-andy
Tu my surprise it was faulty display. Replaced with another AMOLED it turned to be perfectly fine.

First time poster, though been a regular lurker.
It seems I have a slightly dodgy proximity sensor. Have checked with one of the proximity sensor apps and while the sensor detects if I have my hand over it, it is very unreliable when I take my hand off. It can take from anywhere from 1 to 30 seconds or sometimes never.
While ive been through other threads where people have a completely failed sensor, does anyone have this intermittent problem. Also is this a hardware or software issue.
Im currently htc-dev unlocked running Pacman v15.0.
Out there is a tool for recalibrating the sensor, but you would need to be S-OFF I think and it's done with a service tool (a special PG88DIAG.nbh)
Let me know if you are willing to try it, but it is VERY dangerous if you do the wrong things.
I had the exact problem from the very beginning. Got a phone and the very next day had a screen protector applied. For a few days proximity sensor created problems. The screen would go black when the call started, but until the call did not end, there was no way to bring the screen back. So, I used an app just like yourself to check and saw the same thing happening. Ultimately read extensively and realised it was due to screen protector. Took a scissor and cut off the protector above the sensor. A few months later when I had a new protector (of a different company) applied the same problem reappeared, so I had to cut it off from the top. Except that this time around I was sort of expecting it. I hope this help! :fingers-crossed:
I had the same problem and it continued no matter whether i remove the protector or cut the portion....im unable to most awesome ROM's.......only n sense 4.0 im able to re turn on the screen using power button.if there a way to completely disable this turn off during calls irrespective of the ROM its highly appreciated......
Looking forward for the solution

An update to my situation.. I ordered a new proximity sensor on e-bay and have replaced the same on my phone now. While I was at it, I cleaned up the window as it was pretty grimy and could have been the source of trouble. Also cleaned up the contacts with Isopropyl alcohol. End result.. Im still having the same problem!!
Im pretty sure now that its not a hardware problem and has to do with the calibration. What I have noticed that the sensor works fine in bright sunlight but not when there is less light around. Also am not using a screen guard!
Would it be possible to guide me to the right tools to recalibrate please?
Sorry, I haven't done this myself, but I'll search a bit how it's done by HTC.
They are using a special holding station where the devices are calibrated.
Dear XDA,
My phone served me well for the last two years, but a few days ago it started acting strange. The screen is the problem. So the first time it happened i was playing a game, and suddenly the screen froze and the colors started changing, lines started appearing, and then kept inverting colors, all in a matter of 4-5 seconds, and then it went back to normal. After a few more times this happened I came to a conclusion. It had nothing to do with the GPU because if i shake, hit, or make sudden movements on the phone then it comes back to normal. After a few days i had to gently tap it against a wall to return everything to normal. During the whole messed up screen thing the touch still works. I can still unlock and make calls and everything if i remember where to tap correctly, but the screen visually messes up. Now the bigger problem is that those taps have to be stronger, at one point the touch didnt work but the screen showed regular colors and animations, and then went back to normal with occasional visual problems again. In the end i planned to use it as an mp3 because the screen is fully black. The screen is black but lit up, so when i touch it it gets dimmer, touch with one more finger gets even more dim, and when i release then it lights up again, black. I couldn't find help anywh ere else on xda or google, so i need your help. Is there anything i can do from my end? Is it some dying resistors which i can solder, or if it is the screen cable, or what is it? What can i do to get the most out of it? (flashlight, mp3, or is it absolutely useless)? Some information on what it is would be useful.
The phone is a 5'2 inch Alps Tudou91 D1 1gb ram cortex-A7 1.2ghz
PS: I will add the pictures and a video to this comment once i copy it from my friends phone
Thank you.
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. Some times phones just wear out. It could be the digitizer going bad, a loose flex connector, or a number of other things which can't be diagnosed here. I would suggest you take it to a local cell repair center to have it checked out.
Thread closed.
So i've been having a lot of issues with my N5 lately, mostly small stuff like general slowness, poor battery life, not surprising on an almost 3 year old phone. I also lose cell service way too frequently (not an issue with my carryer, all my friends are on the same network and are fine). Camera won't focus anymore (though im pretty sure this was my fault, probably broke it while taking it apart). I'm pretty sure the battery connector on my motherboard is damaged. I've had many problems with the battery reading its temperature as -30 C (battery heath "cold"), i've replaced the battery 4 times now and i still get that problem every now and then. Pushing on the connector fixes it temporarily, so im pretty sure some pin is bent slightly out of place and i don't know how to fix that. It recently started having this issue where just moving or bumping the phone the wrong way would cause the phone to shut off. Probably an issue with the battery connector again. I tried fiddling with it but it didn't do much.
The other day i turned it on and the LCD was backlit, but black except for one single vertical white line. Rebooted and it looked normal. Few hours later i got really pissed off with it for shutting off in the middle of an important text and threw it at the wall (not the best idea i know). Screen was already cracked so i didn't really care. Ever since then the LCD has been a real pain in the ass. i can turn the phone on but there's nothing on the screen. Ii get haptic feedback when the Google logo would up, and the notification LED is flashing like i have a message. The backlight is on and pushing hard on the cable connecting the motherboard to the daughter board i can see it start to turn on, (Google logo, few seconds of boot animation) but then back to black (while still backlit).
I can post photos if it would help diagnose/fix this, my phone is my main camera and i don't want to bother anyone if i don't have to.
Anyone know any tricks that might squeeze another mouth out of this dying phone? Any response is appreciated, Thanks!
The issues could have been related to the power button or physical internal damage. My suggestion: replace the screen with a cheap 3rd party screen if the internal components are still working. This will give you more time with your existing phone and allow you to have a working backup.
Hi everybody.
I’ve had this phone for 10 months now and it’s been great. Yesterday, when i was trying to make a call, it was telling me that i am too close to the screen. I understood that the proximity sensor was acting funny, but I didn’t had time to look into it, because it was not covered by anything and it was in good light. This morning it was a short white flash when I unlocked it or when I was turning the screen off. It worked great all day after that. Then this evening i was using the phone and all of the sudden the screen started to flash white, then it would turn off fast and back on all white. It did that for 4-5 times, then it went in the state you see in the clip below. At one tine, it turned on like nothing happened for 3-4 seconds.
If i plug the charger in, it reacts normal. It's making the charging sound and it vibrates. Seems to be alive in the background, even though it's not displaying anything.
Does it have anything to do with the proximity sensor? Is it the ribbon cable connecting the display to the motherboard faulty? Should i just order a new display assembly?
Interesting, the next day seems to behave a bit different. I had remote erased it, i didn't want any of my personal data to remain on it.
I have found out that if the brightness level is low, i takes a few seconds until it starts blinking. If the brightness is high, then it does that straight away.
Ok, i will post a follow up for anyone else having the same problem. Now i can see that the display is damaged on the top left corner, the pixels are staying lit up bright. Now i can use it on low brightness for longer periods of time without flickering.
I have ordered a replacement screen assembly and i'm still waiting for it, as i don't have the phone under warranty. Looking forward to getting it fixed.
I have also ordered a replacement screen and will replace it when the shipment arrived. Have you found a repair manual for the screen replacement?
I have already removed the back cover of my phone and it seems it will not be so difficult. But it would be better to follow a manual.

I read this post now, I've got this kinda of broblem a month ago, but this happened only when the phone temperature became hot, I mean over 40°C, after a factory reset everything became normal, I no longer got high temperature and this problem don't appear, so at least in my phone it wasn't a hardware problem.

How was the teardown ? I can't find any videos on it. The axon 7 was a pain for me because the aluminum case was a pain to take off around the corners and got damaged a bit. Hopefully removing the back of the axon 10 is a little easier . Thanks for any info
