[Q] Did updating to the latest CleanROM handle everything with regard to my baseband? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

This is a little confusing so bear with me.
I installed CM for my S3 and ended up reflashing the modem to fix SMS. Eventually I noticed there were a lot more issues(GPS, signal, etc) with the phone and have went back to CleanRom (Stock-Root-I535VRUCML1-De-Odex-V2.zip) though the bars still seem a little low. I'm guessing I need to update my modem and I saw a few threads in the archives over at Scott's about the ML1 modem (d2vzw_ML1_modem.zip) can I just flash that file and everything will be fine?
Right now the baseband is I535VRBMB1. If I need to update it what should I update too? Also are there any good 4.4 alternatives? Could I go back to CM mod and flash this ML1 modem and have a good experience? Or are the modem issues I experience with CM mod just unavoidable?

Bump. Anyone have an answer?

MF1 is the commonly recommended latest unlocked radio/firmware. (You MB1 is clearly much older.) You can add the ML1 radio on top of this, but don't add the entire ML1 firmware (which includes the locked bootloader).
mastamoon has the MF1 firmware (which includes radio) on his ROM thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569769 I would suggest starting there, and then you can consider applying the ML1 radio-only which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54520377&postcount=1343 (since invisiblek.org is down)...
At least this is how I understand it to be. I'm running the ML1 radio on the MF1 firmware on stock, rooted, BL-unlocked...
EDIT: Mind you, this assumes you're staying unlocked. Putting in an older FW/baseband on a locked BL phone can cause a brick. I expect you don't have this situation, as you were running CM (natively? or on safeboot?)... so you need to be clear on what you have, and where you want to go...

Thanks a ton. Yes I'm staying unlocked and I was running CM natively. Downgrading the radio was a fix to a problem a lot of people in my area had with CMs radio. I'll look into it more I guess. Going back to CleanRom was just an attempt to solve the problems CM seemed to be causing me.
Presently I have Cleanrom 8.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832070 I'd like to go back to 4.4 since it felt like I got better battery life. So I'll take a look at some of the various things on the forum. I don't know if putting 4.4 on the S3 at this point is just going to cause issues or what exactly.

[Q] Coming from Gnex explain S3 flashing parts?

All,
Coming from Verizon Gnex and I'm reading the Verizon S3 forums and getting a bit confused on the flashing parts of this phone. I see the firmware baseband is "HE" as of a couple of days ago. I also see options to flash the radios and modem? What is the modem for? I never had to flash a modem for my GNEX. Am I missing anything else that I need to flash?
Also, if you would be so kind....I am planning to keep stock for the near future, so after I root and unlock. I need to flash the latest stock ROM which is "HE" then latest radios then modem? What is the latest version of each?
And one last thing, is it the same as GNEX where all I have to do when flashing something is just wipe cache and dalvik cache?
The current verizon updated stock baseband is vrlhe. It includes the most recent modem (radio) from that update. Once you start flashing rom's, the entire portion of the base is dependent on what the developer has built the rom on, and you can choose what radio works best for your phone. Example: synergy R73 is based on vrlg1, but flashing the vrlhe radio with it may give you better cell service.
And, NO on just wiping caches. That's only Ok if updating the same rom, based on the devs guidelines on his updated build. Full wipes between rom's always. It's not a dedicated developers device.
And before you flash anything read the thread in development on backing up your IMEI. There is a bug in this s3 variant that can lose your id when flashing. This is important if you don't want a major headache. And you'll need to unlock your bootloader too
Ha, or maybe he really likes puppies cause he'll end up with a nice chew toy for one...
Thanks for the info guys. And yes, I understand not to dirty flash when switching roms. I usually dirty flash when I'm upgrading from the same rom ie..Bugless Beast...I've dirty flashed the past 4 upgrades.
Was just confused from reading the forums of radios then I see modem....I'm like huh? But got it. Radio=Modem but refer as Radio.

[Q] Updating Radios

Is there a way to update the radios without wiping the rom I am currently on? Somehow I am still on EP4 radios, but im currently on tweaked 3.2.
Anything would be helpful.

/me shakes the dust off this OP.
Quote below from dwitherell OP here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895049)
MY GENERAL RECOMMENDATION:
ODIN back to stock EP4D BEFORE you flash anything (which can be found here). Then either flash the two update .zips that are floating around or (likely easier) take the two OTAs to get to stock FP5E. It just makes for far fewer problems.
Of course now you have a third FP8 OTA as an additional variable to consider.
Good Luck!

[Q] Dumb question on radios

Will the UCMC1 radios work on the stock ICS 4.0.4 firmware?
The only reason I am asking is I had the "Battery Disconnect" issue on my Skyrocket trying to upgrade with Kies, so I am trying to slowly migrate to AOSP, so far TWRP and root went fine on stock ICS (as I expected) but my next step is flash radios, test, then possibly kernel and finally try Beanstalk or another ROM. Trying to do it step by step and test and see what breaks it. Thoughts?

That's be a JB radio with a ICS rom.. Might work.. Not a show stopper if it doesn't work. Just flash an ics radio. see Vincoms sticky in the developers forum for a list of radios.

iirc no, either way test out using ics anf jb radios and see what happens, u wont brick it. I did it once but cant remember if there was a problem, one thing for sure ics roms wont work on jb roms, iirc
It works.
It doesn't the other way around.
FYI... For anyone else who has this question, UCMC1 JellyBean radios flashed into stock ICS not only work properly, but also seem to improve speed and signal strength significantly AND maybe even battery life some as well.

Constantly losing reception/texts not going through!

So I am on Clean Rom, the latest and last version running 4.3. I am on the ML1 firmware. I never really had this problem with the phone, but for the past few months it has been prominent. It could be the area that I am in, but other phones that I have used do not have this problem.
What could the reason or reasons be that my signal keeps getting cut off? I always disconnect from calls and etc. Could it be my radios aren't up to date? What about updating to the NEWEST firmware VRUDNE1?
Is there a way to go about this other than installing a signal booster? I have tinkered with this phone so much...it may be taking a toll on it. I used to only get bad reception with AOSP ROMS, but now even TW is having the problem.
Any suggestions or replies will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

According to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313
Just update your baseband. See if that does the trick.
So it is recommending the MF1 firmware. I am already on ML1 baseband with ML1 firmware on 4.3. Can I go back to MF1?
Also the links aren't working :/

Yes, you are fine to flash back to MF1. I have gone from MB1 to MF1, to MF1 w/ NE1 modem on the newest CM etc and gone back to MB1. Here is a link for MF1 AIO firmware ..... https://mega.co.nz/#!RVAGHRDC!boUFGD-5jlMyBNNL9iMR5VOiu4wfQ_VjSUbwLvirGVU
Just flash in recovery.
My story sounds very similar to yours except I'm still on MF1. My reception is still fine but texts aren't working after the first one is sent.
MMS "message failed to send" when second text or later is attempted

Try the MB1 aio that i just posted. There were some of us who were having issues with sending more than 1 sms/mms without having to reboot. MB1 fixed it.

No problem....can be very frustrating. I am not sure if Verizon was updating/upgrading towers around me or what, or if it was just updates to the blobs/device tree for d2lte from CM, but it took a little while til they got NE1 working for everyone. On the newest CM, AICP, Masta's builds, I can run the MF1 firmware w/NE1 radio with no issues, but my gps won't find any satellites. So I have gone back to my AICP backup from 7/21 or so and I have to go back to MB1 for those builds to work.

[Q] Why am I not consistently connecting to LTE

Hello, sorry if this has been asked before but my phone has been having trouble connecting to LTE for some reason. I'm assuming it has something to do with my radios or something along those lines. My friend is able to connect just fine and he is on the same rom as I and he also has the same phone.
If someone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome!
Thanks!

Did you flash the custom firmware with it too? If so that's likely the problem. Been hearing of a lot of radio issues from L gpe roms lately.
A factory reset in stock recovery (stock vzw recovery) usually fixes it.

The custom firmware seems to cause the issue worse than the 4.4.4 firmware. Most everyone seems to be having this issue but overlook. It also makes loading web pages really slow. Flashing the stock RUU and factory reset did not change anything, it seems the firmware is not right for Verizon phones.

That was just to start over, I then tried the custom firmware a few more times on multiple ROM's with the same results. Constant signal loss and slow data speeds.

That custom firmware should not be flashed to a vzw phone. I have no idea why he posted that firmware to be flashed. You can tell by the info.txt file that it was not.
The included wcnss was never intended to be used on a vzw phone for cdma/lte access.
Wireless connectivity networking subsystem.
OP, your best bet is to flash a stock Verizon RUU (this one works great and is for S-OFF devices), then once it is fully flashed, go into stock recovery and then do a factory reset (this is an important step, this is where you get your proper Verizon radio settings/files back!).
After that, you can go ahead and flash back to DH GPE without using custom firmware and you should be fully functional again with LTE.
And to repeat, you MUST do a factory reset from stock recovery, don't skip this step!

Yeah I think most who are using it are either lucky or do not care or notice the dropped, weak signals. I've tried everything more than once to get it working right and the results are always the same, it acts like it's the wrong firmware, cause it is lol. Some claim to have the same issues but ignore them. I need my phone to work no matter what ROM it is. Thanks for all your help bro I see you are willing to help us when in need, that is greatly appreciated. I hope users send donations your way, I sure will once i get ahead again.
Have you set your APP correctly.
So I just tried this and cannot get back into stock recovery to wipe data. Had to factory reset from hboot, that worked but not sure if it does the same thing as the one in stock recovery, please advise. Then tried to flash the stock recovery and it's still taking me to the darn red triangle with an exclamation point. I am going to continue and install LiquidSmooth 4.0 1-02 nightly after I flash custom recovery. I have searched but cannot find anything on our variant. Thank you all in advance.

LTE drops on and off
I think I have the same issue as OP. However, I'll go further and note that I notice this on ALL AOSP roms as well as the GPe rom. It's not so much that the connection is bad, it looks good. But it drops on and off randomly. I followed the instructions here to factory reset the firmware using the 4.4.4 ruu. It definitely seems to be better but I still have this issue in DH's GPe (stock kernel). Any further ideas?

That signal drop off issue happens to me on gpe ROMs. So far all the cm12 ROMs out there have had a perfect signal with good speeds for me. I think the signal drop off issue is something to do with the gpe ROMs.
Currently running blisspop newest nightly with 4.4.4 straight from RUU.
