Hi Guys,
I am unable to create a DCIM folder on my device. Somehow it was cleared or deleted and now i cannot create a new one. As a result the camera doesn't save any photos.
Any tips?
Thanks,
Sam

Camera should be creating it if it doesn't exist.. and I think it's also created when you flash a ROM :/
well its missing. Camera is unable to create it and i am also unable to do it manually. Any other suggestions?

What do you mean you can't create it manually?
Sounds like something went wrong with your /sdcard or permissions.
Perhaps you could give us the full story?
Hello Sam
Go to /data/media/0 if you have root then create the DCMI folder there.
Reboot your phone after that.
What about flashing a new rom? Perhaps the same rom all over again?
I'd fastboot to stock. Fixed. And go from there. ?

I flashed my nexus s to 4.1 today. then I took a picture but then I found that..
the picture saved to "/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/"automatically
what the fresh hell is "/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/" ? And I am pretty sure I didn't change any setting
Yeah, I haven't checked that in my phone but none of my media files are showing up in stock apps including gallery. There has been lots of threads in forums for the solution and I'm trying those one by one. There are many thread to link. Just google for "media in sd card not showing up in gallery jelly bean" I'm trying a few things. I 'll let you know if it worked.

Are you guys using a custom kernel?
Just snapped a pic and it saved to where it normally does. All my saved pictures are where they should be as well.
It looks like after 4.1 all camera files are being saved in /sdcard0. It shouldn't be a problem if all the files show up in the gallery. If there is a problem, there is a rogue file which is making the media server restart which is causing files to disappear. I did a format on SD and found the file by copying one folder at a time. If none of your files are showing in the gallery, I suggest you put a .nomedia file in all your folders, delete it one by one to find out the rogue file. Hope I had helped.
Hi,
I am not sure if this is in line with what you are saying but during the initial startup after flashing the update the phone finished updating applications then contacts database update and after that went to "media database" update!
I guess there might be some changes in the configuration and the structure of the new release!!

Hey guys please help I accidentally deleted all my photos which I saved into my internal memory. I have tried all sorts of recovery methods, but to no avail. However I found this one suspicious file called .thumbdata3-176350812 in my thumbnails folder. The directory to it is Internal Memory, DCIM, Thumbnails. It has a pretty big file size of 54.5MB. May I know what it is? With a little glimmer of hope, could it be a backup of my photos? If not, what is it? Is there any other way to recover my photos? They are very precious memories and I really feel like killing myself for being so clumsy and deleting them all. I am on Resurrection remix JB 3.0.6 and using a Samsung Galaxy SII i9100.
The file is thumbnail of you images they are tiny images of original images...
Try to open it it might help
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

You could try apps like Undelete or Hexamob recovery. The file, as mentioned, is the thumbnail data of your images. That size actually isn't big compared to what it sometimes gets to (3gb+).

Newbie here. I found the complete manual online, but my phone does not have the delete icon shown on page 62. Have fiddled this thing every which way, but cannot delete. Thanks!

Have you tried deleting the images with a file explorer?
Usually you have to long press on the image in the gallery in order to see the delete icon...
Thanks for your reply! Not sure how to use file explorer, but willing to learn. I have tried holding down for long time, no delete icon?
EDIT: I went into file manager and found on screen shot that I was able to delete, but can't locate the other pics?

Just spend a little time in your gallery, i am sure there will be a delete icon somewhere
Just wondering if anyone knows a solution for this. I have 4.4.4 factory image flashed and backed up. Then i flashed the downloadable 5.0 ROM backed up. If i am using the 4.4.4 ROM it works fine. When I use the other backup to 5.0 i cant save files. For example from hangouts like a picture someone may have sent. Any ideas why and how to correct this? Thanks in advance.
Sdcard permissions? Search general for "sdcard problems" to find my thread
Thanks, I'll check it out and try.
