I flashed my nexus s to 4.1 today. then I took a picture but then I found that..
the picture saved to "/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/"automatically
what the fresh hell is "/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/" ? And I am pretty sure I didn't change any setting
Yeah, I haven't checked that in my phone but none of my media files are showing up in stock apps including gallery. There has been lots of threads in forums for the solution and I'm trying those one by one. There are many thread to link. Just google for "media in sd card not showing up in gallery jelly bean" I'm trying a few things. I 'll let you know if it worked.

That will be very helpful ^)^ thanks a lot :good::good:
Are you guys using a custom kernel?
Just snapped a pic and it saved to where it normally does. All my saved pictures are where they should be as well.
It looks like after 4.1 all camera files are being saved in /sdcard0. It shouldn't be a problem if all the files show up in the gallery. If there is a problem, there is a rogue file which is making the media server restart which is causing files to disappear. I did a format on SD and found the file by copying one folder at a time. If none of your files are showing in the gallery, I suggest you put a .nomedia file in all your folders, delete it one by one to find out the rogue file. Hope I had helped.
Hi,
I am not sure if this is in line with what you are saying but during the initial startup after flashing the update the phone finished updating applications then contacts database update and after that went to "media database" update!
I guess there might be some changes in the configuration and the structure of the new release!!

Hey guys,
Any idea? I have tried the method that putting the .nomedia file in the folder. But it's still not working because I can see the texture of the game in the gallery. You know, it's so annoying.
Is there any way for me to choose the folder of gallery using the official one?
----------------------------EDIT-----------------------------------
I've checked the file and the file surely is named ".nomedia". But the problem is still right here. So...any idea?
Side question: Will this method be applied to other sub folders automatically?
---------------------------Solution----------------------------------
After putting the .nomedia, you have to clear the data of both gallery and media storage. Then, reboot it and...the problem is solved.
Isn't the file supposed to be named .nomedia?
I'm sure Android will try to read a .txt file, so it wont work to exclude that folder.
+1
it supposed to be .nomedia

I've tried in my SGS2 and it didn't work till I rebooted the phone (maybe the images are cached on boot/init). Could you try rebooting to see if it works?
It should ignore all files and subfolders where .nomedia is placed.
Is this Monopoly youre playing? this also happened to me and I also got the answer here on XDA.
After you put the .nomedia file in the main folder do not reboot yet. clear the cache of both the "gallery" AND "media storage", now you can reboot and see the effects that nomedia has on your gallery.

Hey, you are the man! I have clear the date of both gallery and media storage. After rebooting, the annoying pictures are gone! It's just awesome to keep my gallery "clean". Thank you guys.
I have an Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android 2.33. I put on Google+ app and that was a mistake. It created a folder in my gallery called Instant Upload [with 70 pictures]. I would really like to delete the folder but I am not able and I don't know where the folder is kept. I tried searching with windows explorer and couldn't find the pictures or where the folder is on my phone. I went to Google+ site on my pc and erased the pictures there but still can't erase on my phone. Please help.
Even i also have the same problem, i am not able to delete instant upload folder as well as profile photos folder too from my SGS2 mobile. I tried to delete all the apps and cleared all the memory from my SD card. The problem is i can delete both the folders but again when i open my gallery it ll show the deleted files again. So please help.

just follow the following steps, and before doing this i recommend u to take backup of all the data from your phone.
settings>privacy>factory data reset>check (format usb storage)>reset phone.
hope this will help you.

Thanks. It worked but it was a major pain. Google should have made it easier to get rid of. It is like using a bomb to get rid of a fly.
Hello everyone! proud Galaxy SL owner here! Hi, I was wondering after deleting this folder titled "ppy_cross" folder it returns on my /mnt/sdcard? I would delete it again, but it comes back? I can't find to which app it belongs to.. My Galaxy is not rooted.. does the android OS return deleted folders so it can function properly? Just now, I turned on my wifi to install a game from the play store, after installation, I then opened up my My Files and saw ppy_cross folder again...? My phone has no problems at all, it's working normally.
Thankz in AdvaNcE to whomever can help out! =)
3rd party apps create files automatically, the ext file systems also create automatically folders like LOST.DIR

I appreciate your response sir, thank you so much!
So this is pretty much normal sir? So, if ever I come upon another folder that I deleted and comes back... It's ok and won't harm my phone, right? But, what if I installed an app and uninstalled it, and I also deleted it's folder, but comes back after I already uninstalled the app, what does that mean? Just curious sir..

its alryt to delete folders as long as you are aware of what's inside of the folder..but be aware not to delete systems folder for it may cause a problem on ur phone..abd for the application installed and uninstalled well i think it alryt to delete it as long as ur no using the apps and free some space.
I believe that folder is from boat browser mini app.
I have the same folder and I havent installed that browser
I have the exact same folder as well. Inside, I find a file labeled as follows:
7c8818e0b54505648c31ec132d64a3a7
It's simply labeled: File.
I have never installed anything called "boat browser" or anything similar. The only browser that I use is FireFox, and I know it wasn't created form there, as I've used that browser for a while, and the folder only just appeared within the past couple of days. I, like the others, am unable to prevent the folder from returning upon deletion.

Storage Defragmenter....and why the hell is there no 'Angry Face' Icon?? Sorry, I thought that was 'constipated'.
So a few flashes ago when I went to a new 4.1 version, I noticed that my old photos/videos/music/etc were no longer being read by gallery or music apps. I can still browse to them and play them from root explorer but Apollo and Google Music won't pick them up... And gallery doesn't see any photo taken before the flash. I verified it was saving to the same/right place... Still happening. Many reboots and re flashes... Just came back to ICS and issue persists. Any ideas legion? Thanks

There's a problem with the latest ROM Explorer update. Check in the ROM threads for the fix. It's gotta do with the .nomedia files placed in the sdcard folder causing apps to unrecognise files.
~edit - the problem isn't ROM related, rather the ROM explorer app causing the issue.

It's actually ROM Manager... Delete the .nomedia file from your sd and wipe data/cache for all affected apps, and reboot.
Ahhh that's the one. My bad.
Awesome, thanks guys. Today I learned where the nomedia files NEED to be so I don't have the entire data folder of pictures showing up in gallery... Yeah.

Hello,
I rooted my TF 700 and upgraded to JB, delete loads of rubbish, now the tablet flies. However I got a problem with gallery app:
It dose not show any of the images I copied to tablet, the pictures I took from camera shows up the gallery but other images I copied do no show up.
I tried different galley apps all got the same problem, I tried media rescan app as well did not solve the problem.
Just wandering anyone got any ideas?
You help is much appreciated.
How did you copy the images, and into which folder? Do the files show up in the file manager at the expected location (/sdcard/Pictures usually)?

I copy the files into the same folder as where camera images stores, yes the files show up in file manager and I can open it.

You need to copy to your picture folder (/sdcard/Pictures).
Try rebooting the device. Android does a media scan when booting up, and it should pick up the new pictures at that point.
