Hello.
Just installed ViperS 5.2.1 Rom with Sense 5,
In the Htc native app for sms there's the usual visualization in conversation (so one line for every contact and clicking on it there are all the sms, sent and received from that contact).
I've noticed that if in that detail I delete one sms, then I'm taken to another list where the sms are shown in the 'old' way: one line for every received sms, even if sent by the same contact.
Do you know what do I have to set for having always that list instead of the conversation one?
I know I could use a different app, but given that in that case the list is shown like sent messages, I guess I can have it always..
Thanks as usual!
Luigi.

You're right.
I've attached two screenshots.
The first one (conversation list) is the usual way of showing messages.
If I open an sms and then delete it (not deleting it from conversation list), then I see them in the received list (second screenshot).
As you can see, in the first one there's only a line for the contact +393923808454 (and if I open it I see all the sms I've received and sent to him).
In the second one instead there are three lines with the three messages I've received from him (and not the ones I sent him).
As said I'd like to have always that way of view, with the two different folders, received and sent.
Thanks again.

I have just installed one of the new ROM's (slueths) and I love how text messages now list as a conversation. I've restored my old text's using PPCPimBackup, but when I go to a conversation they are out of order. One particular one shows all of my replies, then as it gets older and older it shows the other persons messages. The dates shown seem to be correct though...
Is there a way to re-order the messages? Thanks.
Clear your inbox in the SMS program and then try restoring the backup again. It works for me, and a fair few other people have had success in the other threads this is covered in.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1903404&postcount=749
That seems to have done the trick. Nice one, thanks.
Is it possible to remove/delete single messages from within the conversation?
Erm, is that a no?
Interesting oddity I've noticed with my new HTC Touch Pro.
I'm new to this threaded SMS (been using WM5.0 for years) and I kind of like it, but I also like to keep my SMS inbox clean. (habit over the years).
So when I delete a conversation I expect the messages I sent to be in the "sent items" folder and the messages I received to be in the "deleted items" folder.
The latter appears to be true, I have all of the SMS messages that were sent to me (received) but NONE of the messages I sent are in the "sent items" folder?!?!?
What's up with that?
I know I can disable this new threaded SMS (conversation) "feature", but I kind of like it. I just want to be able to keep what I sent and what I received for archive purposes in case the info is needed in future.
Thoughts?

There is a setting in SMS that you have to set for it to save messages to the sent folder.
Where is the setting?

Can you elaborate on this alleged setting?
Gripe #2...
When you start a new SMS it keeps track of how many characters you have left out of your 160 character quota.
But...
When you are in a "conversation" there is no character counter!
Anyone know if there is a way to turn one on?
Custom ROMs are looking more and more attractive after playing with this new WM6.1 phone for 3 days.
Strange behavior?

PS... In Messaging, Under Tools/Options/Message "Keep copy of sent messages in Sent folder" is checked ON in my phone
Interesting discovery though...
Now I notice when I delete a conversation all messages (sent or received) within the conversation go to the deleted items folder. Not ideal, as I'd like my sent messages to be in the Sent Items folder, but at least all messages are somewhere in an archive.
Now I ask, what is the purpose of the Sent Items folder if nothing is stored there when in conversation mode (except current conversations)?

Its just the way they wrote the program.
I believe there is a reg edit to change your max characters in SMS but as far as it not showing from one interface to another, no fix.
I hate the Android system of messaging just bcoz I cannot keep track of messages recieved, sent, drafts.
I need some app with the classic views having an Inbox, Outbox, Drafts. The only such app I know is SMS Manager. But the issue with it is it doesnt show the whole msg when its a long one.
Plz help.
Check out Handcent SMS and, whilst you are at it, the gmail small sync SMSBackup+
Not sure if they are what you are looking for but, at risk of teaching you to suck eggs, thought I should mention them.

Chech this one:

I tried Handcent but it still provides only a threaded view, not the classic view with Inbox/Outbox. I noticed that it breaks down a long msg into a couple or triple of bubbles, which sucks !
Abt the link provided above, I have the same app (as I mentioned in my intro post), which is the only app having Inbox/Outbox, but doesnt display the whole msg, in case of long ones. Now, on 2.1, its giving me a forced stopped error on opening the Inbox, hence turned useless.
The splitting of SMS bubbles in Handcent is odd. I don't see that in received messages. In sent message settings the are two options which might be responsible :split messages and convert to mms. Check those out.
Regarding inbox/outbox view: there is a separate view for undelivered messages : goto main (middle button) settings and look under "more". Probably not what you're looking for although I noticed you did not type inbox/sent.
I know it's not the same as folders with counts of unread.
Good luck with your hunt.

The handcent message bubble splitting issue is wierd, I have not faced it as of yet, been using it for over a month with no issues of that sort

I just upgraded from a Razr 2 to an Artix 4G (stop your laughing, my son made fun of me enough for everyone).
I noticed that when composing a text message I cannot pull down my contact list to select recipients. I.E. I wanted to send an announcement to multiple recipients but it seems that I must know who and cannot browse my contacts. With the Razr you could go into your contacts and select multiple recipients. I see that if I start typing in the recipients for text a list from my contacts shows, but that is only contacts associated with the what I type, no the entire contact list. Anyone know of a fix or mod for this?

You are talking about trying to message entire groups of people? I use Handcent SMS to do my texting bidding. I believe it can do individual and group texting with the application. It is a lot better than the stock messaging app trust me. Go download it, it is completely free you will not be disappointed.
Oh and this is for Atrix 2 users, the Atrig 4G has its own forum with a ton of stuff in there. Enjoy!
You wont see it like that, just enter the first letter of a recipients name in the box and a list of contacts who's name starts with that letter will pop up, pick the one you want. Once you select you can repeat the steps as needed to get all the recipients added. Or you can use Handcent/Go Sms Pro.

Thanks for the info, and thanks for the forum notification. I just started here and am still learning.
There are several alternatives to the native text messaging app installed on the market. I for one use GoSMS Pro, just try a few until you find one that suits your needs and hood luck on your new device

Same here. I used Handcent for a while but wanted something different and Go SMS Pro is a nice replacement. I love how customizable it is, it even has a native theme creator. So far I've used Go Launcher and Go SMS Pro, they make good stuff.

how do you send normal sms on google nexus 5. only have hangouts and it "invites"
when i select a contact it does an "Invite" request. what happemend to the normnal sms system?
please advise
first time user of nexus series
you need to search the contacts with the number phone , not the hangout
Yeah the normal phone numbers appear to be under your circle friends from g+.
I think the new messaging is pretty sweet and looks a lot better than the old stock format just take a little to get used to.

If you want the 'normal' sms function then you will need to get a third party sms client (I'm using Handcent without any problem). Once you download, it is simply a case of selecting which service you want to use as your default.
It gives you the option if you want to send it through hangouts or SMS (for each individual contact)

You all are making this WAY too complicated.
In Hangouts, press the + button. Search for the contact that you want to send an SMS message to (note, they must be in your People app for this to work). Simply look for the little bubble that says SMS next to the proper contact, click that, and voila.
Variantly, you can go to the People app, click the person you want to text, and then click on the little message symbol and it will pop you into a new message thread for that person.
I really don't like the G+ integration in Hangouts, as I don't use G+ at all. But I'll live with it.
