Should I trade it? (TORN) - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im getting a OPO in and currently have the option of trading it brand new and sealed for a mint condition M8 and Im seriously considering it only cause of the issues I have heard about the OPO and all the negativity surrounding it. Would you guys think Id be wise in trading it for the M8? I really wanted to try this phone and like it but Im honestly just scared Im gonna get a bunch of issues and with OP customer service it seems like it would be a nightmare so I am super torn...

From a business standpoint it would be ideal to trade it for the M8 cause you can always sell the M8, pocket some of the cash and buy another OPO on Craigslist, eBay, Amazon etc.

Very true and thats what Ive considered as well. I just worry about it being a Tmobile M8 and not having the EIP paid off.. Im still super torn cause I really want to play with the OPO especially for a while especially after getting the mythical device, but trading or selling now and waiting for changes in hardware or software could seem beneficial... You see why Im torn..lol

I guess you guys haven't been seeing how much OPOs go for on eBay. Let's just say they crush the m8 for pricing simply due to the exclusivity factor.

Buying a stolen phone

Hey guys,what's up?
I was having a conversation with a friend of mine the other day and he told me this:He found some guy who was selling some phones(well not only one,but he happened to speak to this guy) that were stolen, most probably from shipments or shops' warehouses/stocks.Said phones included a Galaxy S,an iPhone 3GS etc,and he was selling them for like 50 euros. My friend told me he was tempted to buy one of them but he didn't in the end. However the question came to me:Is it okay if someone bought such a device?I know that it's not morally right, that's not what I wanna know. What I want to know is whether buying such a phone hides any dangers. Can the company(for example Samsung) trace them?Do they know they've been stolen?Could someone who bought one of them get in trouble, and if yes, how?
Thanks in advance guys!

If the IMEI or SN have been reported as stolen then the company you try to register the phone will see that it's blacklisted and most likely 1)deny you service and/or 2) report you to the authorities.
Holy ****...

XDA doesn't allow discussion about stolen phones.
They can easily be traced, and network location can be used to locate the user, if the police wish to take you in for a "little chat".
Not something to get involved in. You could end up with a criminal record for handling stolen goods, or worse...

Just Sold My G2X

Hey guys, well when i first got the g2x i couldn't put it down, but it lost it's luster the longer i held on to it, i sold my ipod touch last year and ive missed it since, i also spent a goo $100 in the itunes store, i decided to move to the iphone and the first step was to get rid of my phone, i know the 5's coming out but i cant afford that , and im not gonna sign a contract, i got $300 out of my G2X, which i think isn't too bad, i am currently looking at craigslist and ebay for an unlocked/unlockable Iphone 4 for about $300, if anyone has one hit me up. Maybe once ice cream sandwhich hits and the fragmentation stops i might come back to android, but until then im gonna be on an iphone, i'll keep this updated with my thoughts/regrets if any, did i get a good price, let me know what you think?
why even post this?
i didn't realize i was breaking the law, this is in the general section, it's a discussion that you don't have to read or post anything if you don't like it, no one has a gun to your head.
Seriously, what's the purpose of these I sold, wanna sell, thinking about selling g2x threads, just do it, gtfo, be gone. Good riddance, and go frequent the I phone or sensation forum. Troll.
You got $300? What kind of condition was it in? Reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking about selling mine which is in almost new condition. The only way you can tell its used is by looking at the chrome strip on the battery cover under a bright light. You will then see some surface scratches but other than that, there isn't a mark on it.

I'd sell mine for $600. I'd donate $50 of that to Cyanogenmod team.
I'd also likely flirt with you guys' moms, and if they bought my phone I'd throw in a little bonus if you know-what-i-am-saying.

[Q] Slightly OT - happy to be redirected

I'm quite happy with my SGS4G. My wife is as well, but well... she has dropped hers a few more times than she ought to have and it's starting to act funny. (Mine is also starting to act funny, but I think a new battery would be helpful.)
We're both running VB; but we got the text message from T-Mobile that we're eligible for new phones. Whatever that means.
It's worth looking into anyway... suggestions for a new phone?
Requirements:
* Wifi calling (travel a lot)
* Decent developer community
* Preferrably a low price. (Experiences with swappa.com welcome. Never tried that before.)
Thanks in advance!

Friendly Advice....get a list of phones available for your carrier and go to those forums to see how people feel about those phones
The obvious answer is the New Nexus 5. It will be the most supported phone for atleast two years. Or if they have the Nexus 4 in stock pick it up. I dont suggest anything that is not a Nexus device. That said the Moto X looks nice Im sure @bhundven can offer opinions on it.

Sounds like the one might be worth looking into also.

The moto x is a great phone! It is the only android device that I have that is not unlocked or rooted. But it is that way because I derped on researching and didn't know the at&t version was locked and not unlockable.
At $349 for the 16G and $399 for the 32G, the Nexus 5 brings more value for the dollor... verses $649 for the unlockable developer edition of the Moto X.
The motorola-google merger is still young and I've noticed manufacturing issues with mine, and there are long threads in the moto x subforum about defects that others have noticed with the chassis.
Personally, I'm keeping my moto x in case someone makes an unlocked bootloader for the AT&T version, but my nexus 5 (white 32G) is on order.
A lot of people like the HTC One and the Galaxy S 4 (available on the play store, with unlockable bootloaders).
I think as @kennyglass123 said, it all comes down to personal preference and reading the forums to find out what other users think of the device. Research is your friend; learn from my mistakes

Good to see you finally getting on the Nexus bandwagon lol. I might be picking up the N5 but I have to find a good phone for my kid. Not going to give her the N4 that glass back will not make it a week. That is the only downfall to the N4 .

Is it possible to use a Google-disabled nexus?

My dad's going to India to visit family, and a cousin asked to see if I could find someone selling a used Nexus 4. Or something that had a bad ESN but was unlocked, so that he could still use it in India.
During my search, I came across an ad on Craigslist..where a guy is selling a Nexus 5...says it's unlocked and will not work here but will work elsewhere in the world.
So I asked him if it had a bad esn, and he said No, it's disabled by Google.
I use an iPhone and I'm not sure what that means...I did a lot of searching and came across this site.
And the only place I saw "disabled nexus" being referred to, was with people who had their nexus phones stolen during delivery...and Google then disabled the phone and refunded the money.
So, I'm faced with a moral dilemma that the phone could have been stolen OR the guy himself lied to Google about it and got a refund and is now trying to make some money.
But the price is good...and I'd really like to buy it.
So..my question is... Will a new unlocked Nexus 5 that has been disabled/deactivated by Google, work in India?
Or would the deactivation be worldwide? Because no point getting a good price, if the phone won't work!
I really don't know where to turn to.
I'd appreciate the help.
thanks.
The point of disabling a device is making it useless. Why would it work anywhere? What's the price? The price on a brand new one is already low enough, how low can this be? If it's too good to be true, it is.

He might just be a thief (or a delivery guy from UPS that stole someones phone , like it happened to me ) and is now only trying to sell it/them .

The reason I posted that question..was because I don't know what "disabled" means. At first I thought, it meant like having a bad esn.
But if it means turning the phone into a brick that won't start or operate, then that's that.
The price is $300 for a 32gb Nexus.

No, that doesn`t matter. It would be best to have this thread closed imo as this is not the place to discuss on how to get `hot` devices operable. Thread reported!
Just buy a legitimate phone or a cheaper one

Stay away from the clones!

A bit off topic, but there is the odd person who comes to these forums looking for help with their S4 clone. I had often considered one of these handsets before and still get tempted by the lost cost/decent specs, but think I'll stay away for good now.

Although if the below story is true, even equipment from reputable manufacturers can be compromised, so its no just 'all chinese devices can't be trusted'.

I brought a clone at first. And while its mostly ran great the biggest problem was that its 4G/3G antenna was rubbish.

That seems to be the fall down in even the good ones from what I've seen, either a poor WiFi radio or rubbish GPS.
xda is not for clones and Chinese junk that cost as much as a case for phone I do not know why here allowed threads related to fakes
indeed.. got one from ebay ..it sucks
How do people get scammed into buying fakes? Always buy from reputable retailers!

Because we are all saying 'STAY AWAY'.
If one of us said 'Best phone I ever brought' it would be closed.
But in the end I wouldn't bother wasting my money again in the future with those phones.
Better way of not getting a clone is to check the hardware of the device .
Mainly clone or copy have same software but hardware is diffrent .There are many apps to check the hardware .Better be alert

I know right. If the deal sounds too good to be true then it probably is. If most people saw a Rolex watch on sale for 50 bucks I'm sure they would be skeptical.....so why would you fall for a knock off phone.
