Hi guys,
i've a weird issue when browsing my Nexus 5 when using the windows file explorer.
It's the same behaviour on several devices (Laptop, Desktop).
Some folders are listed as folders and browseable, but some folders are listed as files and not browseable.

SDK etc. is installed
Can you help me to solve this issue?
It's no general issue whith my N5.
For example: I'm able to browse the phone as expected when using the app "Web PC Suite".
Thank you for your advice!
It's very common. Not sure there is a permanent fix. Reboot of both computer and phone should be a workaround.

Thanks for your proposed workaround but a restart doesn't solve my issue.
I've restarted my laptop and nexus several times but nothing has changed.
It might be interessting that always the same folders are detected as files.
Does that help?

Even after switching on/off usb debugging the folders are still mixed up as files and folders :crying:
wtf is going on?
In the meantime i got that desperate i totally stocked my Nexus (even with tamper-flag reset etc.) and voila,
folders were displayed as foldern.
Then after restoring my ADB-Backup (which i did right before stocking, of course) files and folders are mixed up again :crying:
Could this be a software issue caused by my nexus?
I'm using yesterdays omnirom-nightly with fraco Kernel R47.
But had this issue with a lot of rom-kernel combinations.
Please help :crying::crying:

I also had the same problem before and dunno why this happens. But it got fixed own it own. LOL
Any ways as temporary solution I used pull function of adb.
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/DCIM /driveonpc

hey, pal.
Thanks a lot that worked for me.
Actualy i tried something easier for the most folders.
I plugged in the Nexus to my Laptop and then renamed every folder which was shown as file to foldername2.
Then the folder was displayed as a folder in windows file explorer.
After renaming the folder to it's actual name it still was a folder and everything worked properly.
So i guess it's just necessary to update the folder. :good:

I've tried just about everything to get my fastboot working. I'm running on Windows 8. I've tried tool and scripts, different drivers, HTC Sync, EVERYTHING.
I've gotten ADB to work but fastboot won't recognize my phone. When I put my phone into fastboot mode, I can go into my computer and look up the phone in device manager and I do see the phone. Unfortunately, it presents an error that say the device has failed to start. This has been unchanged through out every "fix" I've tried. Any ideas?
Windows 8 is notorious for breaking fastboot. There are a few supposed ways to fix it. Exactly what have you tried? Saying you've tried "everything" doesn't actually tell us anything.

Oops, sorry. I've tried the tools that are supposed to set up fastboot for you, I downloaded the SDK and got the fastboot and adb files but nothing shows up in the "fastboot devices". I've also tried the HTC Sync route as well as numerous drivers that are claimed to be the "fix".
What about some of the guides that are available that specifically address this problem?

I've tried all the results on that first page. Nearly every time, I get an error message with a yellow triangle for an icon:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed.
Yeah I thought as much. I haven't seen people with Windows 8+ have much luck with fastboot. To be honest the only real fix I've seen is to use a different version of Windows, unfortunately that isn't as easy as some as it is for others.

Download latest HTC driver , go into your device manager in win 8 and in device mgr menu options on top make sure and click show hidden (not connected ) devices. You then will have to click onto the greyed out HTC or android name in device mgr tree and update manually . you have to actually go to the sub folder in the driver update and not just click the folder that its in. Lol its a pain but it does work. You can Google manually install HTC driver for win 8 and there is couple tutorials. Hope it helps. I beta tested win 8
And had to do that. Lol im back to win 7 and Ubuntu now

I'm having trouble copying files (primarily music) to my sdcard. Either entire folders that are copied will show as empty, or only some of the files will copy. I also routinely get the message "your device might not be able to play this file", which I'm assuming is due to the fact that most of my music is in flac (does HTC assume most players don't know what to do with flac?).
Anybody else experiencing these bugs?
That's because kit kat doesn't support it. You have to use the xposed app "handle external storage" to be able to move stuff to your SD card

Thanks for the info. I'm still learning my way around KitKat (and Xposed).
Ok... after doing some more research (and playing with xposed and other things), the issue is not resolved. I've already edited the platform.xml file to enable writing to the sdcard, but it doesn't help with transferring files from pc to the device via usb. Additionally, files that I did successfully write to the sdcard do not appear in Root Explorer, even though r/w is enabled, and various other apps (players) can identify the files. Either I'm missing something obvious, or KitKat is really screwy. I'm starting to miss Jelly Bean on my old Rezound.
Or just use this and reboot once you use it.

Thanks, but I've already tried that. It only implements the same changes as manually editing platform.xml. Once that's been done, NextApp will display this message:

It works perfect for me. I go into app settings and moved Google Music and everything else I could to the SD card.

I think you're misunderstanding what my problem is. I'm trying to move music files from my PC to my SDCARD. Not data from apps to the sdcard.

Stock player, Poweramp, Neutron player all will show something different for available files in the specified folders. Root Explorer won't show files that I put in a folder labeled "Audio Books", even though I drag-and-drop the files there using my PC, and the PC shows they're there. I put four audio books on my sdcard in the last coupled days (in mp3), and the files are all missing. Now, plugging it in to my PC, the files are nowhere to be found. They were there (at least some of them) a day ago. WTH?? The folder is there, but it's empty. So empty I can hear an echo in there...

The Earth spinning one was very nice. Unfortunately I was unable to try the Night Sky one because every time I tried I got an error saying the files were too big, whether I tried to copy/move them simultaneously or individually. Yes obviously I have been setting permissions

I tried File Explorer and Root explorer with no issues. I copy past all the files to system/media and over write the existing files

I tried both ES file explorer and Root explorer, those are my go-to tools, and yeah that's what I do, overwrite the existing files. Worked fine for spinning earth but not for night sky, even when I tried restoring the stock boot animation first (I always copy the stock files to a secure location first)
Not sure what to tell you. If its doing that with stock boot files too it would indicate another issue. Maybe clear cash in recovery

This page doesn't like playing with mobile browsers, so if you've got a blank page change the browser to desktop mode.
All required downloads are in the guide.
The Mi Flash Tool will lock the bootloader, by default, after flashing. If you don't want to do this, then change the option at the bottom of the tool before flashing (step 5)
If you wish to lock the bootloader, you must make sure the ROM region matches the phone, i.e. global ROM on a global phone.

However, I'm having a lot of trouble with the tool. It will not recognize my phone. I connect it, and the computer detects the phone. Then I click on "refresh" on the tool, and automatically the USB device is disconnected from the computer and the tool will not recognize it.
I have installed the Qualcomm and ADB drivers, rebooted and nothing changes.

Sounds like a dodgy USB connection.
Try using the best USB cable you can find. If that doesn't work, try using a different computer. Fastboot and adb are very sensitive to the quality of the USB connection.
My old laptop will happily connect normally to my phone and I can transfer files with no issues, but from about a year ago I can no longer use adb and fastboot, with similar problems you are seeing. Using the same phone and cable I have no issues with my wife's laptop.

Not sure how it is on your phone, in the gallery app on my phone, there is a 'Recently deleted' folder. From here, we can recover photos that were accidentally deleted within 30 days. I will upload a screenshot about this later.

I don't think you will be able to do anything if you don't root your phone.
I will try finding a way to hide the root for the sake of keeping the OTA.

I suggest you search something about it on this forum because I haven't been hiding root for a very long time now. I think Magisk can help with that.
When files are wiped / deleted, the corresponding entry in the MFT ( the Master File Table is where a file's name and the chain of allocation units assigned to the file are stored ) is marked as re-useable, though the wiped / deleted files may still be physically present if the freed space has not been overwritten in the meantime.
IMO a forensic software is needed to extract physical content of the wiped / deleted files, will say to do a bitwise copy of this freed storage space Android's dd command typically is used what requires relevant Android's directories are mounted as RW what requires Android is rooted before.
Rooting Android is nothing else than to add su binary to Android's filesystem, preferredably to /data/local/tmp directory, what can get achieved via ADB.
