ODIN not delivering recovery - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a new S5 after totaling my old one, and I am trying to get it rooted. I flash the latest recoveries from TWRP and PHILZ, odin says reset and pass, but it doesn't register on my phone. My knox is still 0x0. I just updated to NE5 so I think that may be the problem. Any solutions?

Odin is very finicky. Try changing usb cables and changing ports. That should, and normally does, fix the issue. Good luck.

Ok, I tried that. Still nothing. Used 2 and 3.0. Disabled anti virus too. Any other ideas? Thanks for the advice though!

Which odin version are you using? 3.07 or 3.09 that could be a problem too. I know when I was updating my modem to ne5 I couldn't use 3.07 because it wouldn't update I had to use 3.09 for it to work. It could be the same problem your having too. Just saying

I tried using all the versions still no luck. I even tried using it on Phone rather than PDA and still no luck. Can I just push it through fastboot commands or something?

If you are already rooted you can try an app called flashify, it's in the play store. It works pretty good for flashing recoveries.

I'm not rooted, I plan on flashing the recovery so I can install a ROM. Are there any reasons why ODIN would say pass but not give me recovery? I tried 2 computers so I have a feeling it's the phone.

I don't know, I've never had a problem with Odin.

Try rooting with kingo (kingoapp.com)

I'll use an auto root as a last resort, but I would really prefer the manual method. I had a bad experience when using a one click method before.

I would use "Towel Root" to root your new S5 if you haven't rooted yet. Heres the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157 if you use this method it wont trip knox thus leaving knox counter at 0x0, and as far as recovery goes with NE5, use "Flashify" best app ever, root, download that app backup stock recovery with it then flash PHILZ recovery, then make back up of PHILZ recovery with Flashify. Reason I suggest using PHILZ is because it has been an on going problem with NE5 using TWRP to restore a NANDROID. These threads always help for other reasons too http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...mctr=(not provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=231498652 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2742994

Has the same recovery worked on other s5 IF has then try other recovery.

flashcounter question

Ok so basically for what I understood ny some reading is that when you use ODIN to flash ROM's you get the flash-counter +1 and bye bye warranty.
Can the flash counter be reset ? if so how do you do it? is that done by flashing back the stock ROM?
Thanks
right now the only way to reset the counter is with uart. I am sure this will change down the line but for now that is all we have.

Just to share my experience. I flashed rom two times until now and my counter is still to zero. I never used Odin to root or flash.

Did you use Odin to flash CWM?
I know once you have CWM you can just flash the rom. zip through recovery (and don't need to use Odin).

Clean ROM and System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless

I now tried to load the Clean ROM twice and when it's down loading I get the System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless and had to run ODIN to get the SIII back up and running.
Anyone else having this happen?
1) root
2) Unlock your bootloader using EZ Unlock v.1.2 from Rootzwiki
3) flash CleanRom using CWM or TWRP
Your bootloader is still locked that's why you see that Verizon warning.

[APP] Mobile Odin for Note 8.0 [N5100 N5110/N5113 N5120]

Finally Chainfire released this version to support the lastest sammy devices.. get it here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
Can you explain how this works. I am currently rooted with Framaroot and have not graded the latest update last week or the one this morning which i suspect was sent out to fix some of the issues from last week. But anyway, can i use this with the Framaroot..thx
This is an app for u to install on ur device for flashing tar files.. It works just like the pc version of odin. About the framaroot thingy i'm sure it'll work as long as u flashed the proper kernel for ur device.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
Framaroot doesn't work with the new software update. You need to use the Note 8 toolkit or CF-Root in order to get root again.

You may use rooted device with framaroot, then apply update from SamMobile via Mobile Odin with EverRoot. This method i using on devices, where i cannot flash CWM (owners do not want raise flash counter).

This is exactly what I did. And then flashed my region's modem.bin over the top with mobile odin and still kept root.
Mobile odin and titanium backup are the most useful and essential apps I've ever bought - this is my third rooted android device using them.

get the .tar file with twrp recovery. copy it to your ext card. open mobile odin. press on Recovery, choose ext card, find your file, insert it. and then go to the very bottom and press flash firmware. everything will take just a while. after flashing your Note will reboot already in twrp recovery.
hope it helps.

[Q] How do I hard-brick my phone?

Hello,
I'm trying to hard-brick my phone. Here's the deal, I can get into ODIN Mode only, no recovery and no regular boot. The problem is that the VZW software and anything I flash in ODIN fails. Both ML1 and NC1 yield a "Fused 2 > Binary 1" error and flashing NE1 results in a failed write in ODIN but no error on my phone (so I suspect it's the right ROM that needs to be flashed, but I have a RO system). I've tried with and without the PIT as well. So, the only option I see left is to hard brick the device and try the SD card method of de-bricking it. Anyone have any thoughts how I can do that or any thoughts on what I should try to flash?
Thanks!

Sent from my SCH-I535 using XDA Free mobile app
Well, the version I have 1.2.8 doesn't support Android 4.4 and the version I downloaded only supports ADB mode. I don't see any sort of ODIN mode support. ADB won't attach to the phone so none of the options work and the toolkit just hangs.
Thanks again for your help!

The reports of the locked bootloader on T-Mo S6 Edge were mistaken and premature. So the answer is no.

Glad I decided not to take the OTA update, even though I'm sure there will be a fix for the loss of root.
A colleague of mine who updated her GS5 yesterday said her caller ID only shows the phone number and no longer shows the contact's name. Also, I can confirm this isn't the 5.1 update . . .

I was able to root OD3 using the most recent CF autoroot for the S5. It will flash OA6 recovery though. Hopefully it will be updated to include the OD3 recovery, or I'll just wait until the OD3 tar is up on sammobile.com to grab the OD3 recovery from there.

I did the same thing. Apparently there's no going back from OD3. If you're worried about root, just use the latest CF Auto Root for this phone. It works on OD3. Then just wait for the full ROM to be posted on Sammobile if you want to do flash that later. I'm rooted on OD3 and haven't had any issues at all.

So if the recovery is OA6, what happens if you then use that recovery? are you back in OA6 and still rooted? I guess it would be best to wait for the OD3 recovery to show up. In the mean time, still no issues?

That's weird I've never been able to untick a notification. Glad you came abroad to MOAR. Please though we ask you to post your questions in the MOAR Q&A FAQ thread and not the development thread. We as a community are trying to keep the clutter in that thread to a minimal. Heck we even have an Off Topic thread for anything, just so we don't clutter the development thread.
