[Q] What is this? Stuck/hot/dead pixel? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a crazy pixel in the bottom right corner of my screen. What is phenomenon? When the screen content is changing that pixel starts to flash random colours, but it show the right colour with static images.
Sorry for the crap qualty. If you pay extra attention to to the bottom right corner (on the video it is the upper right corner) of my screen you will see it.

I know some others who have reported this. When did you buy your phone? Is it the white model by any chance?
I know you can avoid seeing it on your homescreen 2 ways: use backgrounds that don't have purpley/blue colours in that area, or use backgrounds that don't move (1080x1920 resolution). Otherwise, it's not noticeable when using immersive mode apps unless you specifically look for it.
Also the video doesn't really show the issue, at one point it flashes red but otherwise no one here will see what you're talking about. I've just experienced it myself so I know what you mean.

mine is a black 16gb one, bought in december. The pixel stucked as red for 15 mins but got unstucked, but still flashing randomly. It is pretty noticable for me when watching videos.
I will going to claim my warranty.

Let me know how that goes, I'm interested in what Google will tell you and also what your replacement device will be like. Good luck!

Sadly google devices were not available in Austria at the time of buying, so I bought it from mediamarkt for 400 euros. I have to take it to LG. LG repair phones and wont send you new ones like google So I will get back the same device with a new screen if LG willing to replace my screen. :/

Oh I see. Well if LG is able to tell you anything about this I'd be interested in knowing. Best of luck with the repair, keep us posted with how that goes.

Maybe the pixel is copying the colour of a different place on the screen? I had that happen before on some older devices, even one had a whole row like that (which was easier to tell that it was copying the row a few pixels above)

I took a closer look about the pixel under magnifier. and I see not one but 2-3 pixels in the last row that changes colours randomly.
To those who waiting for my response about the repair: I will not take my phone back to LG until my next semester starts in september. I live far from the capital where the nearest LG service shop is. It is not that serious problem that needs inmediate action and worths 3 hours of traveling.
Be patient I will not forget to share my experiences.

Unless it becomes a whole row of messed up pixels, it isn't too much anyways lol

That is interesting, I should try the microscope trick. The pixels are so tiny it's hard to notice, but if it flashes red it can catch the corner of my eye.

Today I give my phone to LG service centre because I start to experience the stuck power key malfunction. I also mentioned to the guys at LG about my pixel problem. They acknowledge my pixel problem and stuck power key. Now I am waiting for my phone to be repaired.

I got back my nexus today. They replaced the motherboard and the entire front of the phone. The phone also has new imei number. Only my back cover stayed original. The power key is not that loose like it was before, it sits more firmly.

Wow. That follow up.

RIP crazy pixel ;(

Probably stuck or dead pixel

Hi guys, yesterday i recieved my OPO and i noticed that there is a little dark point ( watchable only on white screen) which probably is a stuck or dead pixel. The point is very very little and amost unwatchable during normal use , but i m very finicky......what can i do? Is possible to obtain a replacement of the phone for only one pixel? Thanks for your suggestions!!!
Only OnePlus can answer that question, there's no point asking here because nobody here is an employee of OnePlus. If it is defective though, they should cover it under warranty.

But no one bere with a similar situation? Just no know if there is a possibility to obtain the change. I have already opened a ticket on OPO official site, but no reply at now.
Basic warranty policy states that if a device is defective out of the factory you are entitled to a replacement.

I have a dead pixel too - but honestly - is it worth making such a big deal out of it?! Why don't you just live with it and save you all the trouble? It's not worth it in my opinion - what if you get another device with a yellow band in exchange? That would be worse wouldn't it? There are bigger problems than just one dead pixel - if it were green all the time that would be much worse.

ugh I have the same situation with my new oneplus one, this didnt happen on my old one but there is a dead/stuck pixel near the top that is green usuallly very hard to notice but sticks out like a sore thumb on black backgrounds. i am just going to deal with it unless it gets much worse is there any way to fix it short of replacing the hardware?
my co-worker has 1 stuck pixel, like you, its only visible on a white background. OPO's defective policy is only for 3 pixels or more. he ended up selling it on craigslist for the price he bought it at.
I have the exact same issue and feel the same way, though I haven't bothered with a ticket yet because I feel lucky to even have one given the extremely short supply. They haven't made a specific statement on dead pixels in the FAQs, but here are a couple close ones:
What is your warranty & return policy?http://oneplus.net/support/answer/what-is-your-warranty-return-policy
What should I do if I receive a defective product?http://oneplus.net/support/answer/what-should-i-do-if-i-received-a-defective-product
Other than that, thishttps://forums.oneplus.net/threads/dead-pixel.68381/#post-3362283 is about the most useful statement I could find from any admin on the topic. >.<
You can also do like I might and wait for your shared invites to come in, use one to buy a new phone, then sell your current one on eBay or something. Just be sure to be honest about any issues with it. Given the low supply you'd probably still get darn close to retail for it.

Stuck pixel here
Though I bought the phone nearly two months back, got it only today from a friend travelling from the US as my country is unsupported yet for shipping.
I discovered a white stuck pixel that stays on in any damn screen when the phone is on.
Pete Lau was drumbeating so much about being very strict with quality, but if so many people are complaining about the screen, this is not good.
Depending on whether the pixel is actually dead (meaning it either gets no power or shortened) or stuck (crystal can't rotate) you may be able to revive it. There are applications for that purpose in the Play store that very quickly toggle through several colors in the hope of jiggling the pixel free - leave it running for a few hours and check if the screen is fixed.

Hello! Yes!
I have a stuck pixel at my opo. I can just give you one advise. Don't change it. Just don't care about those pixels and more important: Don't search dead pixels. I wad also like you, and so i ordered 3x htc one x, 3x galaxy s3 and all of them had dead pixels or stuck pixels. Also my galaxy s4 had one, and my lg g2! So every ****in phone has them. It's like a big joke and you need very good luck to get one without.
So now i have my opo, and also have 1 stuck pixel. But you know what, i don't care. You have to learn this.
Otherwise you'll be going crazy. Just be happy with your phone. In some time you will get another phone anyway.
So pfff.

Thanks @d4fseeker. Any tips on which apps we can try?
I had success on a friend's phone a while back with this app:

Thank you

Yup! Stuck pixel here, it appeared after having the device for less than a day, it's 1 red pixel, so it's not visible on white background. But dark background its right in my face.
I had a little cluster of white pixels on my m7, never really bothered by it.
The way oneplus handle this, I don't think I'll even bother to try to get a replacement device. Well, that's the price we pay for buying from cheap Chinese manufacturer.

You do know that "3+ dead/stuck pixels" is what major brands also require for replacement?

[Q] Yellow spot on display

My g flex 2 has a yellowish stain on the lower left corner...the blind people at sprint shut me down for a replacement because they claimed they couldn't see it. I've asked at least 7 other people for a second opinion and they could all see it. What is it, and what should I say to the assholes at sprint the next time I come in?

I fix phones, sometimes when we get yellow spots on screens after being replaced say like on iPhone devices it mainly is because something is putting pressure on the screen somewhere, most of the time it is something near the lcd flex cable where it connects to the motherboard. Like with iPhone 5 you have a metal shield covering the connectors and if you tighten the screws too much then you get yellow spots on the screen somewhere. Ultimately I'd tell them to check for that, to check that nothing inside is too tight near the connector if the lcd. Would be great if you can post a photo of your screen.
Install Dead Pixel Detect and Fix from Play Store, select the grey color from the options and dim the brightness of your phone.
It's much more visible that way and then go back to where you purchased your phone and show them.
When grey you see lots of uneven spots on your screen.
I have the same problem with mine and it's clearly visible.
Don't let them take you for an idiot (because I am sure they DID see it) and force them to replace your phone. Open the new one in front of them and check if it's ok.
If not ask for another phone.
I got my second one and this display got the same problem. Like already said, its good visible on a grey Background.
I let it change again and when the third one have the same Problem, i will get the HTC M9

Trust me. You guys aren't the only ones with this very infuriating defect. Got this defect on my new phone (not an LG) and I've got yellow piss stains all over the white screen. ****ing nightmare.
Hey I got mine replaced and the new one has no problem anymore. No yellow spots.
Nice to hear.
Two LG G Flex 2 had already a yellow spot on Display and I hope that the third one arrives without that issue.
Is there any chance they ever go away? Is it the glue?
Is there any way to make the yellow spots go away? Im just curious

If it is the glue yes. There are some ways to accelerate the procedure but i dont approve
for example uv light or under the sun.
JFYI
I've seen so many of these threads & just want to chime in that I have a Sprint version ordered about a day after release & it has no color issues @ all.
It has been dropped, sat out in the sun & flexed.
I even installed the app to test, no color issues.
The OTA update is failing of course since I rooted it.
Anyway, point is, there are good ones out there.
Good luck everyone.

Annoying yellow spot on display

Hi Guys,
New to this forum. I recently sold my one plus due to the exact reason but this was at the bottom of the display. Many have said that it would disappear over time but after 6 months, the yellow band was still haunting me. Gave up because of how infuriating it was and sold it. Got this beast, loving it but I noticed straight away at the top left of the display there was a yellow spot which spreads slightly to the centre. Im not familiar with the characteristics of certain displays as I am aware of the different kinds of displays these two devices use. Just wondering, would this problem disappear over time ?? I saw this post on this particular "fix" sites, which says that it will over time given the glue dispersion from heat and what not. BUT, im just afraid (skeptic here) it would end up like my one plus. Im trying to avoid going back to the reseller as this phone was purchased from a grey importer. Any input from any of you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

a lot of people have yellow spots . the spots are mostly visible in 0% brightness and grey backround. Install dead pixel detect and fix and choose gray from the menu. if the result is not good contact with lg service center to change the screen.
you mentioned also oneplus. I also had oneplus before. it had 2 issues the first one was the led light bleeding and the yellow banding. the led bleeding is only visible down due to the position of led lights of the phone and cannot be fixed. the yellow band was due to the glue that didn't properly fixed. I personally had this issue but after some months It was fixed by the use of the phone. I also let it 2-3 times under direct sunlight for 20-25 minutes.

hey, i managed to exchange for another one. Though there is some improvement, the yellow spots are still apparent albeit less noticeable and only in Grey background. Did your's disappear, or at least improve overtime? How is it? I have tried using a 38W UV lamp for nearly an hour and the yellow spots are still there..

Bright White Spots on the screen

Since some weeks I am facing an increasing number of bright white spots on the screen (pls. refer to attached picture). Ok picture is not perfect, but should give an impression what I am talking about. Is anybody having the same issue with his screen.
I am wondering whether this is realated to a general quality issue or a faulty handling on my side.
Thx for your comments.
If your screen does that, perhaps it's time to get it looked at under warranty?

I am sure there are options for repair still, if the white spots bother you that much.
If it's an already replaced screen, it's probably not the best quality.
Could be adhesive.
I had a ASCEND MATE 7 for a while and after about two months got wild white patches on screen, sold it by the way and bought a new one. This new one even had brighter patches from the beginning!
Got this one replaced with MATE 8 by the warranty (yeah, they gave me the MATE 8 instead for whatever the reason!)
I'm now useing it for about 2 and half months and again I got white patches almost in middle and bottom of the screen! What the hell !?
I think this is the problem with internal batteries, as they are poor quality and after some time of use the battery's pressing against the back of the LCD ... and the whites appear
We should definitely blame Huawei for this
It's maybe because of poor quality made IPS-NEO screens used in mate series .. anyway Huawei MUST answer
mine is even worser. the device never dropped, not even a scratch around...

White dots on screen after replacement.

Hi guys,
2 weeks ago I replaced my nexus 5 screen and battery. Everything was fine till I noticed some white dots on the screen. I don't know whether I should make a complaint letter or do something with it by myself. I read that it may disappear after some period of time but I'm not sure about it. Do you guys know what is it? And how could i fix this? ;c
I also have a photo of the screen but can't add this here because I'm a new user...
if you mean discoloration, (some screen areas brighter than others) you should try to get a refund and replace the screen if possible
