[Q] No GPS, looks like hardware failure. - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I bought a new XT925 from eBay last month (quick warning here about the Hong-Kong seller who is operating there: I bought 3 phones from him, two appeared to be XT926 in XT925 cases. He does refund, but it's a pain in the ass and you really want to triple check your phone when you receive it).
Sadly, this phone never had a GPS fix, neither under stock or using CM11. All specific GPS apps are working, but they never seem to get any signal at all.
Now I wonder how this is possible, as the phone is using a GpsOne that is part of its main processor can it really be damaged when everything else works like a charm ? Or could it be some internal cable with a bad connexion (looks like it uses an internal antenna so I doubt about it) ?
When I put the GPS in debug mode, the only error I get from logcat seems unrelated:
I/QuickSettingsController( 1010): Tiles list: toggleUser|toggleBrightness|toggleSettings|toggleWifi|toggleMobileData|toggleGPS|toggleFlashlight|toggleBattery|toggleAirplane|toggleBluetooth|toggleAutoRotate|toggleLte
E/LocSvc_afw( 810): E/const GpsGeofencingInterface* get_geofence_interface(), dlsym for ulpInterface failed, error = undefined symbol: gps_geofence_get_interface

Any chance to fix it somehow ?

"A wireless radio must be attached..." -> a battery problem?

I am pretty sure that many people who are reading this topic have met the situation when the message:
"A wireless radio must be attached to use this phone" pop-up on PDA screen.
My question is: This situation could be battery related? We do not speak here about chip damaged, ROM update, SIM broken and so on...
Does anyone solved this problem by replacing battery?
If so, please post the phone name and if this happened even if it is charging or not!
Believe me that I tried all the solutions found on Internet (ROM update, tweak WM....). The only thing I didn't do was to reflash radio part because I did not find the appropiate file.
When the GSM died, also the vibrator stops to work. That's why I'm thinking to battery problem...
Also this kind of problem appears on many type of devices and on some forums was mentioned that may be a battery problem but no one confirmed it!
On the other hand my wife's LG has a very strange behaviour (were blocking, sudden reset). I send it to service LG and it cames back with diagnosis: It can't be repaired.
Lucky me that I found a very smart guy who did some tests on it and he replace the battery and nothing else and the phone works perfect from then...
That is why I'm telling you that battery could be a source of very unexpected problems and strange behaviours of phones.

I have heard of people with radio issues replacing the battery & fixing the device. Why not pick up a replacement battery and try? It won't be expensive
I already ordered online an original one but I have to wait because there is no stock available yet (on ebay I'm afraid to buy a new one because of fake batteries).

[Q] touchScreen not working

Bought a nearly new galaxy tab2 from the internet, but the touchscreen seems not to be working.
Any idea what that can be. Could it be something with a ROM, or does it need to go to Samsung.

It could be failed hardware, a bad cable, or perhaps a problem with the touchscreen controller chip.
If you can capture the boot messages using 'dmesg' over ADB, there may be info there that could help determine which.
If it's under warranty, return it to the seller for a refund or replacement, else just keep searching for a solution :\

When you say the touchscreen "seems" to not be working, what exactly do you mean?
Does it not work AT ALL, or is it just not very responsive to your touch, i.e. scrolling is slow and choppy and/or pinch to zoom is flaky?
Because I have noticed certain apps do not work well on my 10.1 when it comes to the touchscreen, when the tablet is under heavy load. Are you experiencing this more with certain apps, like Chrome and/or Samsung Keyboard? If that's what is happening, I can help.
I use a custom firmware, so not possible to return to samsung.
As it is stuck on the install screen, I can't enable debug for ADB.
Or is it auto enabled on a custom rom.
What has the highest chance of failing. Logic board or digitizer (as the cable is not sold seperatly)
I have a Tab 2 P5110, I bought it as faulty as the touchscreen is not working. Otherwise it's alive and responding to the buttons.
After reading several topics it looks like it is a bug that can only be fixed by physically replacing the digitizer panel.
Of course I'd prefer a software solution but so far what I've found wouldn't work on this model due to HW difference.
Can someone confirm that?
Thanks.

[Q] Signal but no service

Hi! After repairing my Nexus 5 from a water damage (changed all components except the screen and back cover), the phone shows that I have good celluar signal, but no service. The celluar data is working, but I cant make calls and send SMS. I have checked with different antennas, but with no change. What is wrong? Thank you
Well,
Hard to tell. Maybe a hardware issue with the motherboard ? (this coud explain why somebody sold it to you )
I wonder how much you paid for the replacement of all these components...
Have to say....water is evil and replacing things often ends up with discovering more is damaged. In the end, replacing water damaged devices usually ends up being the better choice.
Flash stock and if still no go, it's hardware. Try another radio maybe.
Not much else you can do.

I'll second it. Pretty much out of options now. This is the reason water damage is so frowned upon by then OEMs.

It worked fine for 2 weeks after I repaired it, but then I suddenly lost the service. I paid 170 dollars for a new phone with cracked screen and replaced all the components except the screen...
Try dialing *#*#4636#*#* and go into phone information, if you have your phone on LTE when you scroll down you will find LTE only, click on it and try changing it to different things

[Q] HELP! P900 WiFi Problem

Hi All, I have P900 which I bought about 5 months now, and all the sudden the WiFi is not working as it keep switching on and off automatically (problem which similar to S4 WiFi) and off all the time. I have been doing factory reset, and flashing roms. None of them works. Now I would like to try flashing the modem module just like S4 fix, but I have no idea on where to find those files. I would really appreciate if someone could give me some lead on this, or any other ways for those who have similar problems. Please help.
Same problem (SM-P905V)
I see that this thread is really old but I am having the same problem and I can not find anything on the internet to fix this problem. I bought a refurbished note pro from amazon last September (so it is out of warranty). This is my last ditch effort to try and fix this on my own. If I can't get any help then I will just have to send it to Samsung to try and repair it.
My wifi worked just fine for all this time then about a month ago I was having problems with the bluetooth not connecting. I ignored it at the time as I was going to work on it at a later date. Then about a day or two later it started working again.
Now about a week and a half ago my wifi and bluetooth stopped working. I have factory reset but still nothing. I can get the wifi to even turn on any more. Occasionally I can get the bluetooth to work for a minute or so but 99% of the time neither one works.
I hope that someone can help me with this and I can get it resolved without having to spend a fortune.
PS If no fix then what do you suggest as a replacement? I love all the features of the note pro. I like the stylist, the screen resolution, and the multi-window features. I need a big screen for my business. I use it for a slide show at events.

Bluetooth and Wifi have many components on mainboard, repair them is beyond anyone including professionals.
My suggestion is looking for a Note Pro with broken display or woking mainboard only on Ebay; it may cost around $120, more or less depending on luck.
Take out the mainboard is quite easy, only 3 screws at two speakers, I can swap the mainboard within 10 minutes.

Any SM-P900 ( wifi ) or LTE ( 905, 907 ) mainboard will fit to your existing tablet except rear camera ( LTE rear camera won't work with Wifi model mainboard ).
Since the thread is four years old, this is not really a follow up, but just a note in case anyone is having similar issues. Actually bluetooth + wifi repair on samsung tablets are possible for end user - if you are semi-lucky and broken components are not hard to replace items such as ICs. But first, be sure to rule out any OS level issue by flashing stock rom on the tablet. Then if the issue persist, then if you can locate service manual for the tablet in question, it comes with level 3 step by step instruction (and board view of components) on how to troubleshoot bluetooth + wifi hardware issues. Often the broken component is not the major IC itself, but discrete components such as capacitor, filter or resistor. In some cases issue may be fixed just by reflowing the IC itself with hot air rework station. So there is indeed good chance you can fix hardware issue with a bit of work and some cheap hot air rework station (such as 858D sold on ebay for $30 including shipping).
Ok the worst scenario is that wifi ic is bad and need to be replaced. Good news is that Samsung uses popular wifi ic, such as broadcom chip. And although it's a bga chip, it's quite small, making replacement using hot air gun possible. So will a lilttle bit of skill and luck, it's definitely possible to repair samsung phones/tablets with broken wifi hardware.

hardware fix for wifi/bluetooth problem

Hello everyone.
my device is actually a G play mini but we all know it's just a rebranded honor 4c ( in my case CHC U23)
my problem is wifi/bluetooth don't "see" any networks. However, mobile 3g works fine
Don't know when problem started because the phone was handed down to me.
I've done a lot of research and I will post my findings.
- This seems to be a common problem with Honor 4C/GPlaymini/P8lite. I've tried any all all stock and custom roms from all the models above and problem persists so I'm possitive it's hardware related.
- From searching youtube the solution seems to be to replace or "reball" the wifi IC. my first finding is that the part number is:
HI1101 ( I had to apply hot air to a metal shield in order to remove it and see that) it's under the shield 'between' the Kirin620 and the headphone jack. This is the same IC chip as p8 lite
- a motherboard replacement costs about the same as a new phone so not worth it IMO however the wifi chip is easily findable and reasonably cheap on ebay or alixpress and I would give it a try. (I'm a beginner but wanting to learn)
My question if anyone has any experience is:
1) In youtube videos the wifi/bluetooth switch was greyed out and then the fix was to replace IC. Since I could use the switch but phone just didn't "see" any networks (even next to the router) does that mean the problem lies elsewhere and I'm just risking to brick the phone?
2) assuming wifi IC is fine, my other idea is the RF cable/ribbon/connection is damaged (which makes sense) but I can't for the life of me find where such internal cable is either by myself or in dissasemble videos (of which there are very few for our 4C) But interestingly on ali and ebay such a part exists (won't post links but honor 4c wifi connector is easy to find)
Does anyone know where such a connection is located or if it's just a mistake from the sellers? Are there boards that don't have those white rf cables to connect internal external antennas? Where is even RF antenna on the 4C?
I will update this if I attempt repairs but it will take a long time for any parts to reach my country.
Any other input on the wifi/bluetooth issues is appreciated. Also perhaps share your story if you have a similar problem. Specially if you solved it.
Sorry if I'm not posting in the right place, but this is as close as I could get for my not-so-popular model.

Hei Alderus,
Did you manage to solve the problem?
I have the same issue with the WIFI/BT (they're grey).
Please let me know if you have any updates.
Thanks!

woops. I should have posted long time ago. Anyways the update is I solved my problem (or it got solved by itself)
I had a business trip during summer, I still didn't had the replacement modem. Anyway, I remember it was blazingly hot and kept the phone in my pocket and then... I was very surprised to see wifi was detecting networks when back in the hotel!
I was running Lineage android 6.0. Didn't do any hardware or software changes, just went to a different city by plane it was hot and it started to work! there's is the funny catch that it never seems to work on the wifi I originally used it in back in my city(I moved from there but went back and found that I could see the network but it never really connected)
Other than that wifi has been working normally in any other home/office I've been to. I have no idea what really happened, but definitely I will never buy another huawei phone.
sorry if this doesn't help anyone in the same boat...
