Need some help guys for ROM update - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My current ROM is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591895
When I first switched to that ROM i did so to not lock the bootloader. I am trying to keep the bootloader unlocked but I would like to switch ROM, because as of late it has gotten sluggish with many random restarts. Does anyone know of a ROM that I can try out that will not lock the bootloader?

Any of the 4.3 ROMs that are compatible with ML1 firmware will work. MOAR, Wicked's etc.

But do they lock the boot loader? Like Alliance ROM for example

None of the 4.3 ROMs in the Android Development section will lock your bootloader.

Thanks for the reply, but did you 1st root the phone and then unlocked it ?
It works even if you root your phone first.
Always wondering this. Now I know.

Was rooted for 6months b4 unlocking and had no problems.

Rooting is not a problem for unlocking. You cannot be on a custom rom unless it was derived from an official rom release. If you are on an AOSP custom rom such as Cyanogen or MIUI you cannot unlock the phone until you flash back to an official rom or derivative thereof.

And in addition to that, after unlocking it you can go to an AOSP rom and you'll still be unlocked.

If I'm not mistaken, once you unlock your phone, it's a permanent unlock for the device.
Wouldn't matter what ROM you were on afterwards.

Not true at all. You can unlock while running CM. I've done it a few times, with a few different phones.

Bootloader, how to tell if it's locked on nonrooted device

Hey guys, just recently had to unroot the S3 due to some minor hardware issues. I flashed the stock Rom and all with mobile Odin and was even able to update with the ota.
Is there a way to check to make sure the bootloader is locked without having to unroot again? Have a feeling I missed a step but just want to be sure.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Of the Samsung screen flashes by very quickly at boot then it means you are unlocked.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
If you did a ota then your bootloader is locked iirc. Which version did you flash with odin? I think the F2 is the only version that doesnt relock but i could be wrong. But as suggested if the samsung logo goes away real quick at boot you are unlocked.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I flashed the rom they had from stockrooms.net, so I'm guessing it was one of the first roms the S3 had. It seems like I'm locked since it did an OTA twice (one I manually allowed then another one automatically) and the Samsung logo doesn't just flash by.
As x714x posted, if you accepted an OTA then your bootloader is locked.

The HD stock build is the only one that wipes everything.

Just unlock again using EZ Unlock 1.2 to be safe. It will not hurt anything to unlock it if it is already unlocked.

Help lol bootloader prob

So how would I know for sure if my bootloader is unlocked can't flash any kernel but ez unlock says its unlocked

When your phone is powered of completely, hold the power and volume down keys at the same time. This will then bring up a white screen with a load of text. Look at the top and if it says 'S-off' then I assume you've unlocked the boot loader. If it says 'S-on' I assume not. But this isn't always the case.
Try it anyway and if this helps please leave a thank you

That is just for HTC devices.
Just reboot your phone and if the first samsung logo when booting up disappears quickly then you have an unlocked biitloader.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
The simplest way to tell is if you reboot your device and if the first splash screen that appears flashes "Samsung" really quick, then you are unlocked. If you are not unlocked it will stay up for a second or two.

Yes been rooted can flash ROMs but not kernel

What version of ez unlock are you using? Make sure you use version 1.2. The later versions don't work.
Actually they do work as I used 1.4 and the only thing is that it says unknown. Also once it gives you the prompt saying the phone is unlocked you flash a custom recovery to see if you have successfully unlocked the bootloader.

You probably flashed an incompatible kernel. Basically if you flash a kernel meant for ICS it won't work on jelly bean and vice versa.

It has been widely known/reported that 1.4/1.3 are non-functional. I think you are the first person I've seen to claim otherwise. Maybe it works for some? All I know is that 1.4 did not work for me I had to revert to 1.2, and this is the same for everyone else in the ez unlock thread on Rootz.

I'm assuming you downloaded ez-unlock from the market? That's version 1.4, which has been widely reported as non-functional. Uninstall the current app then download version 1.2 from this thread and install it:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/
That should fix your problem if it doesn't then there is something else wrong.
So I Odin back to stock through the whole root clockwork and unlock I am definitely

Post a link to what kernel you're trying to flash. Also, which rom are you on-AOSP OR TW and which Android version is it?
I finally got faux main line v15 to work via a ROM with aroma installer so idk what the hell I was doing wrong but I was wrong somewhere

Proper upgrade path

Sorry for the noobish question that I should know, but it's been a while since I've used an HD.
I picked up a used HD on 9.18.94. Can I simply sideload 183.46.10 and run the bootloader unlock? My first goal is the bootloader then I can flash root and unlock the radios so my wife can use it on ATT

Yep, just upgrade straight to .10, unlock, root, and you'll be good.

If you're running official 4.4.4 firmware (SU4-21/SU5-25/SU6-7) - you must downgrade first to SU3-15 cause that's only available way to get root. Or you can install alternative firmware like CyanogenMod cause you're lucky one and have unlocked bootloader.

With an unlocked boot loader all you have to do is flash twrp recovery then boot into recovery and when you exit it will ask if you want to install SU.
Here is a link to a tool others have used to flash twrp.
